The Obama administration has made it painfully clear that infringing upon the Second Amendment through “gun control” will be a top priority during President Barack Obama’s final year in office.
This was exemplified by his recent announcement of several unilateral executive actions he would be taking in an effort to implement stricter gun control.
However, more than a few of the items on Obama’s list of infringing actions seem somewhat familiar, something that was actually pointed out by the left-leaning media outlet Vice News.
It turns out that many of the “new” proposals put forward by our emotional president were originally introduced during his big push for gun control in 2013, following the horrible massacre of school children at Sandy Hook in 2012.
Obama recently spoke about closing the “gun trust loophole,” forcing those who purchase or possess firearms through a trust or corporation to go through a background check. He already proposed this rule in 2013, and it is expected to be finalized and implemented soon.
Obama also spoke about encouraging hospitals and medical professionals to violate patient privacy protections as laid out in the HIPPA laws, reporting individuals to authorities if they suffer from mental health issues. This illegal action was also originally proposed in Obama’s 2013 gun control measures.
Obama directed the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security and Justice to conduct research and development of “smart guns,” an unreliable technology that would ostensibly only allow a firearm to be used by its rightful owner. He already directed the DOJ to look into “smart gun” technology in 2013.
He also spoke at length of expanding criminal background checks for firearms purchases, again, something he had already instructed the FBI to do more than two years ago.
Obama also reiterated his 2013 orders to the Center for Disease Control to conduct research into gun violence, as well as to the DOJ to better track stolen or lost firearms.
There is a reason that much of Obama’s executive actions on gun control sound familiar, and that is because they are virtually all things he has previously ordered executive branch agencies to do.
This simply proves that Obama’s efforts are flawed and failed and that he has no interest in truly addressing the root causes of gun violence or going after the repeat offenders and criminal gang members who commit the overwhelming majority of gun crime.
Instead, he chooses time after time to make it more difficult and inconvenient for law-abiding citizens to obtain firearms.
