Egypt buried the dead Saturday from a train collision that killed at least 19 people and injured 185, according to a revised count, as investigators probed the country's latest deadly rail crash.
Health Minister Hala Zayed told reporters that an initial tcount of 32 killed in Friday's crash was revised down, while the number of injured rose from 165.
"After we honed in on the details of those killed and injured... at this moment there are 185 injured and 19 corpses and three bags of body parts," Zayed said, without giving further details.
Surveillance camera footage of the accident seen by AFP showed a speeding train barrelling into another as it rolled slowly down the tracks, sending a carriage hurtling into the air in a cloud of dust.
Most of those injured in Friday's crash that occurred in the Tahta district of southern Sohag province suffered fractures.
The first victims were laid to rest early on Saturday with small groups of family and friends in attendance as residents, who appeared mistrustful of outsiders, kept the media at bay.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi pledged tough punishment for those responsible for the crash, the latest in a series of rail accidents to plague Egypt. Such incidents are generally attributed to poor infrastructure and maintenance.
'Carnage'
It came as the most populous Arab nation struggles with another major transport challenge -- a giant container ship blocking the Suez Canal, a vital shipping lane for international trade.
Early on Saturday Egypt was again struck by tragedy when a building collapsed in the capital Cairo, killing 18 people, state media reported.
At the scene of the rail disaster, technicians worked through Friday evening to remove five dislocated and damaged carriages. By morning the crash area was cleared of twisted metal and debris.
Rail traffic also resumed ahead of the burials.
Witnesses and survivors recounted horrifying scenes.
"We were at the mosque then a child came and told us (about the incident). We heard the collision, so we rushed and found the carnage," said a 59-year-old man speaking on condition of anonymity.
The first ambulances to reach the scene arrived "around half an hour" after the crash, he said.
"There were children who removed (debris) using wooden ladders," added the witness, who spent the day helping rescue workers.
One train was travelling between the southern city of Luxor and Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast, and the other between the southern city of Aswan and Cairo.
Kamel Nagi, a 20-year-old conscript, was on the Cairo-bound train after enjoying a few days of leave.
"Our train suddenly stopped and a quarter of an hour later, the second arrived and struck us," said Nagi, who suffered multiple broken bones.
"I saw it coming, screamed, then found myself on the ground in great pain," he said from his hospital bed.
'Decades of negligence'
Authorities opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident, while the rail authority blamed the crash on unidentified passengers who "activated emergency brakes" in one train.
The prosecution said it would interrogate several rail employees, including the two train drivers, their assistants and the signalman.
They will also have to undergo drug testing and authorities have seized their mobile phones to examine their call logs, it added.
But media reports on Saturday claimed both train drivers had died of injuries sustained in the crash.
The rail authority said one train hit the last carriage of the other, causing at least two carriages to overturn between the stations of Maragha and Tahta.
Transport Minister Kamel al-Wazir, a former army general appointed by Sisi to lead the ministry, pointed to human error or intervention as playing a role in the country's rail accidents.
"We have a problem with the human element," he told a late-night Saturday talk show, pledging to automate Egypt's rail network by 2024.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said the government would disburse 100,000 Egyptian pounds (around $6,400) to each family who lost a loved one and between 20,000-40,000 to those injured.
The government has spent "hundreds of billions of pounds" to upgrade the railway system over the past four years, he said, acknowledging that the network "has suffered from decades of negligence".
Egypt's railway network is one of the oldest in Africa and the Middle East and improving it "will take time", Madbouli told reporters Friday after visiting the crash site.
One of the deadliest Egyptian train crashes came in 2002, when 373 people died as a fire ripped through a crowded train south of Cairo.

Crime increases are a major trend in the US. Because of the increase in crime, some municipalities have generally stopped prosecuting people for or investigating smaller crimes, such as auto break-ins or small thefts. Now the city of Baltimore, known for her high rates of crime, has announced a similar cessation on prosecution for drug and sex related crimes.

Something happened in Baltimore last year. The coronavirus pandemic hit, and State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby announced that the city would no longer prosecute drug possession, prostitution, trespassing, and other minor charges, to keep people out of jail and limit the spread of the deadly virus.
And then crime went down in Baltimore. A lot.
While violent crime and homicides skyrocketed in most other big American cities last year, violent crime in Baltimore dropped 20 percent from last March to this month, property crime decreased 36 percent, and there were 13 fewer homicides compared with the previous year. This happened while 39 percent fewer people entered the city’s criminal justice system in the one-year period, and 20 percent fewer people landed in jail after Mosby’s office dismissed more than 1,400 pending cases and tossed out more than 1,400 warrants for nonviolent crimes.
So on Friday, Mosby made her temporary steps permanent. She announced that Baltimore City will continue to decline prosecution of all drug possession, prostitution, minor traffic and misdemeanor cases, and will partner with a local behavioral health service to aggressively reach out to drug users, sex workers, and people in psychiatric crisis to direct them into treatment rather than the back of a patrol car.
“A year ago, we underwent an experiment in Baltimore,” Mosby said in an interview, describing steps she took after consulting with public health and state officials to reduce the public’s exposure to the coronavirus, including not prosecuting nonviolent offenses. “What we learned in that year, and it’s so incredibly exciting, is there’s no public safety value in prosecuting these low-level offenses. These low-level offenses were being, and have been, discriminately enforced against Black and brown people. Prosecutors have to recognize their power to change the criminal justice system.
“The era of ‘tough on crime’ prosecutors is over in Baltimore,” Mosby said. “We have to rebuild the community’s trust in the criminal justice system and that’s what we will do, so we can focus on violent crime.” She said the policy shift will enable more prosecutors to be assigned to homicides and other major cases instead of working in misdemeanor court.
The decision not to prosecute drug and nonviolent misdemeanor crimes was a huge paradigm shift for Baltimore police, Commissioner Michael Harrison said in an interview. Officers who made drug arrests saw prosecutors dismissing the charges at the jail, and so the arrests mainly stopped. Mosby said there were 80 percent fewer arrests for drug possession in Baltimore in the past year.
“The officers told me they did not agree with that paradigm shift,” Harrison said. He said he had to “socialize” both officers and citizens to this new approach. Harrison expected crime to rise. “It did not,” the chief said. “It continued to go down through 2020. As a practitioner, as an academic, I can say there’s a correlation between the fact that we stopped making these arrests and crime did not go up,” though he cautioned that the coronavirus could have had some impact. Mosby noted that the virus did not keep crime from rising in nearly every other big US city last year.
Harrison enthusiastically supported Mosby’s move to sign an agreement with Baltimore Crisis Response Inc., a private nonprofit group that provides services to people with mental health and substance use disorders. With the police, BCRI will launch a 911 alternative dispatch where calls for behavioral health issues are routed to BCRI, which can send a two-person mobile crisis team to a scene or immediately refer people to services. The state’s attorney’s office is also collaborating with three Baltimore groups that offer a variety of services to sex workers.
Social workers are “better suited to deal with these issues,” Harrison said. “For generations, we’ve been asked to be all things to all people. Suez, Egypt:
Efforts to dislodge a giant container ship blocking the Suez Canal have allowed its stern and rudder to move, but it remains unclear when it can be refloated, the head of the canal authority said on Saturday.
The 400 metre (430 yard) long Ever Given became wedged diagonally across a southern section of the canal amid high winds early on Tuesday, blocking one of the world's busiest waterways.
About 15% of world shipping traffic transits the canal and hundreds of vessels are waiting to pass once the blockage has been cleared.
Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie said he hoped it would not be necessary to remove some of the 18,300 containers to lighten the ship's load, but that strong tides and winds were complicating efforts to free it.
"The ship's stern began to move towards Suez, and that was a positive sign until 11 p.m. (2100 GMT) at night, but the tide fell significantly and we stopped," Rabie told journalists in Suez.
"We expect that at any time the ship could slide and move from the spot it is in."
Dredgers removed some 20,000 tonnes of sand from around its bow by Friday. A Dutch firm working to free the vessel said it could be freed by the start of next week if heavier tugboats, dredging and a high tide succeed in dislodging it.
Tugging attempts restarted on Saturday afternoon and further efforts were planned on Saturday night and Sunday morning, SCA sources said, though they added it could be necessary to remove more sand from around the ship to free it.
Two SCA sources said there had been further, minor progress in dislodging the ship on Saturday. One source said there had been some movement at the bow of the ship.
"When dealing with a ship of this size, its behaviour with the dredgers is unknown, we don't know how it will respond to the pulling," said Rabie.
The head of Boskalis, parent company of Dutch firm Smit Salvage which has been brought in to help the SCA, said heavy tugboats with a combined capacity of 400 tonnes would arrive sometime this weekend.
REALLY STUCK
"We aim to get it done after the weekend, but everything will have to work out exactly right for that," Boskalis Chief Executive Peter Berdowski told Dutch TV programme Nieuwsuur late on Friday.
"The bow is really stuck in the sandy clay, but the stern has not been pushed totally into the clay, which is positive. We can try to use that as leverage to pull it loose," Berdowski said.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Saturday thanked foreign partners for offers to help refloat the ship.
Shipping rates for oil product tankers nearly doubled after the ship became stranded, and the blockage has disrupted global supply chains, threatening costly delays for companies already dealing with COVID-19 restrictions.
If it drags on, shippers may decide to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope, adding about two weeks to journeys and extra fuel costs. Rabie said the ships that are waiting were free to reroute around the Cape, but none had yet done so.
He said 321 vessels were waiting to enter or continue their transit through the canal. Those included dozens of container ships, bulk carriers and liquefied natural gas (LNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vessels, according to a shipping source.
Fourteen tugs have so far been involved in efforts to refloat the Ever Given, although Boskalis and Smit Salvage have warned that using too much force to tug the ship could damage it.
Berdowski said a land crane would be brought in at the weekend which could lighten the Ever Given's load by removing containers, though experts have warned that such a process could be complex and lengthy.
"If we don't succeed in getting it loose next week, we will have to remove some 600 containers from the bow to reduce the weight," he said. "That will set us back days at least, because where to leave all those containers will be quite a puzzle."
Rabie said empty container ships with cranes could offload containers.

If the association with Satan wasn’t already established enough, what’s interesting to note is that there are reportedly 666 pairs that have been manufactured, with each pair bearing a message from Luke 10: 18 of The Bible which reads:
“I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
However, the most sinister reveal lies in the soles of the pair, which are reportedly filled with 66cc of red ink and “one drop of human blood”.

One can see the website for the shoe release <a href="https://satan.shoes/">here</a>. It’s openly satanic, and there is no hiding what he is saying. The number ‘666’ on the shoe, the black color, the giant bronze pentagram on the front, the clear red liquid in the shoe bottom, make it very clear that nothing good is associated with these shoes. Likewise, the newest video from this rapper, released at the same time as his shoes (which one can look up on his own) shows the rapper in a variety of sodomitic and demonic scenes until at the end, the rapper dies and slides down a stripper pole into hell where she twerks on and simulates being sodomized by the devil before killing him and taking his place.
However, what one should be concerned about is not merely the satanic imagery. In fact, that might be considered at best a secondary concern. Yet what could be worse that the obvious?
What is worse is that Nike is the one who manufactured these shoes.
The rapper did not make these shoes. It is doubtful he would know the first thing to do. He certainly supports the concept, and is clearly one who supports evil things, but he ultimately is just a useful food, a willing pawn, one who cares more about power and influence than about truth or moral right. What is more disturbing are the actions of Nike, because the corporation is the one- and not just “the company”, but the specific individuals in R&D, marketing, customer service, and leadership -who supported, created, engineered, marketed, and are profiting from the sale of these shoes.
The real blame is more with Nike. Nike did not have to market these shoes. Nobody forced them to do this. This is an action made by their free choice. It is also unlikely they are making much money from these shoes anyways, but rather are profiting off of promoting satanism. This is the real commodity, not the shoes being marketed to people.
No amount of ‘activism’ is likely to stop these people at this point, because the reason that Nike is able to market such shoes is because, clearly, they believe they have enough popular support to be able to sell these shoes without too much open backlash that threatens their bottom line.
Companies and even government do not care about the backlash, because it has no real effect on their ability to do business, for that is the only kind that they care about.
The country is changing. This isn’t about rap, or any one particular kind of music, but that open demon worship is now being accepted in society, and the marketing of this stuff is the proof of it.
Likewise, ask yourself, what has the ‘conservative’ movement done to stop this? The conservative movement has not conserved anything, except for putting a temporary hold on the status quo.
What one is looking at here is a view of the future with these shoes.
It gives me no joy to say that the Christians have lost the culture wars, because the consequences are going to be serious. Christianity is no longer a ‘profitable’ thing, but rather, anti-Christian causes have become popular, and even arguably profitable to promote. This is just part of the result here, and it is not going to get better, for this is just the obvious. It is often the less obvious things- such as the public embrace and defining of the culture by the sins which cry out for divine vengeance, and punishing those who stand against them -that are more serious, as their end result is thing such as the above.
If it took thirty years- 1987 to 2017 -for the US to completely embrace sodom, what will the US look like if patterns do not stop in 2047?
One can only imagine.

Violence in the Sahel region has been awful for years, and each time, it seems too get worse. In the midst of multiple crises, the Christian Post reports now that one-hundred and thirty people were slaughtered in an attack in Nigeria, including twenty-four children, by Islamic militants.

On the deadliest day in Niger’s recent memory, over 130 people and nearly two dozen children were killed in a series of suspected Islamic extremist raids Sunday afternoon in a region of Africa where jihadi attacks have become more prevalent in recent years.
The attacks happened along the Mail border in southwestern Niger as unidentified insurgents on motorcycles raided three villages and other hamlets in the Tahoua region, according to government sources.
The initial estimate of lives lost released Sunday was about 60. But that count has since been updated to 137 by the government.
The attackers remain unidentified. But violence in West Africa’s Sahel region has increased as Al Qaeda and Islamic State-affiliated militants have carried out countless attacks in recent years, displacing many from their homes.
The latest series of attacks came on the day Niger’s Constitutional Court announced Mohamed Bazoum the winner of a runoff presidential election, according to The New York Times. He will take office on April 2.
An escalation of attacks has occurred since the February election, the Associated Press reported.
At least 22 children between the ages of five and 17 years old died during Sunday’s raids on the villages of Intazayene, Bakorat and Wistane, according to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund.
“It is hard to believe that children in the region should live in permanent fear of such attacks.
