Virginia Republicans’ messy, Trumpy race to pick a nominee for governor

<p>GALAX, Virginia — Republican gubernatorial candidate <a href="https://kirkcox.com/">Kirk Cox</a> was several minutes into a wonky election security answer at a diner when <a href="https://www.vox.com/22217039/capitol-attack-trump-rally-election-biden-explained">January 6</a> came up again.</p>
<p>Did President Joe Biden win the election? Cox avoided directly answering the question at this recent event, though he had previously acknowledged that reality, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-general-elections-virginia-elections-voting-495f43e4a5d5bbf049cc7c4fc008969b">the one GOP frontrunner willing to do so</a>.</p>
<p>Instead, he refocused on proposals like voter ID requirements, <a href="https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/americans-oppose-many-voting-restrictions-but-not-voter-id-laws/">which are popular with lots of voters</a>. But now, Lin, a Trump supporter who had posed the Biden question, had another one. She wanted to know whether he agreed with the Virginia Senate <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/amanda-chase-virginia-censure/2021/01/27/b126bf46-60cf-11eb-9061-07abcc1f9229_story.html">censuring</a> one of its members, Amanda Chase, after she called the people who <a href="https://www.vox.com/22217039/capitol-attack-trump-rally-election-biden-explained">stormed the US Capitol</a> that day in January “<a href="https://blurredbylines.com/blog/amanda-chase-virginia-capitol-riot-dc-january-6/">patriots</a>.”</p>
<p>Did Cox support the “freedom of speech” of Chase, now one of Cox’s competitors for the Republican nomination?</p>
<p>“I’m very much for freedom of speech,” Cox answered.</p>
<p>“So you were against [the censure vote]?” asked Lin, who supports Chase in the race. “I don’t want to put words in your mouth, but I need a ‘yes’ or a ‘no.’”</p>
<p>This narrow line on the 2020 election and cancel culture is one Republicans have had to dance along for months in courting voters before Saturday’s Virginia GOP gubernatorial convention.</p>
<p>The GOP has had a tough go of it statewide in the past few years in Virginia, with demographic changes helping push the state to become reliably Democratic. The party’s response — running further and further to the right — has only exacerbated the problem. But Virginia might not be lost to the right kind of Republican. At least not yet.</p>
<p>Republicans will choose their nominee in an <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/here-s-why-virginia-gop-s-nominating-process-governor-could-n1266655">“unassembled convention</a>”; nearly 54,000 Republicans who successfully applied to be a delegate will be able to cast ranked-choice ballots at 39 drive-up locations around Virginia. It’s a process that has had more than <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/virginia-politics/virginia-gop-convention/2021/04/04/4bfe8fc4-9228-11eb-a74e-1f4cf89fd948_story.html">a few</a> <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/lot-confusion-virginia-republicans-stumble-over-their-own-voter-id-n1265887">bumps</a> along the way, including Chase <a href="https://vagovernor.substack.com/p/audio-republican-gubernatorial-candidate?token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjozOTY4OTQzLCJwb3N0X2lkIjozNjEyMTU1NCwiXyI6Inl0ZUZHIiwiaWF0IjoxNjIwMzM1MjM4LCJleHAiOjE2MjAzMzg4MzgsImlzcyI6InB1Yi0xNTkxMzYiLCJzdWIiOiJwb3N0LXJlYWN0aW9uIn0.HwqJkp0jVhIlP-YqLxj-aKtToiOeF8l2E7Fse2JYN5c&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email#play">alleging the party chose a convention over a primary</a> to prevent her from becoming the nominee. It could also take several days to know the results — candidates have already sown doubt about the race.</p>
<p>“It’s going to make the Iowa caucuses look like a well-oiled machine,” a Democratic operative said, with a touch of hopeful glee.</p>
<p>Virginia last chose a Republican in a statewide election in 2009. Since then, the GOP has run candidates that its own insiders say don’t appeal to the state’s growing suburban population. They’re going to have to make inroads back into those communities to have a hope of winning, says Miles Coleman, associate editor of Sabato’s Crystal Ball at the Center for Politics.</p>
<p>“I always look at, in the 2016 primaries, places where candidates like John Kasich and Marco Rubio did well against Trump: Those are the areas that have moved more toward the Democrats since — places like Loudoun County, Hanover County, Chesterfield County,” Coleman said. “Maybe those voters are still open to the right type of Republican after voting for Hillary [Clinton] and Biden.”</p>
<p>But can they do that while turning out the 44 percent of the state that went for Trump?</p>
<p>The mix of contenders has been revealing.</p>
<ul>
<li>Chase, the self-described “Trump in heels,” has dominated headlines in national media, saying things like the <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/4/20/22387556/derek-chauvin-verdict-guilty-murder-manslaughter">Derek Chauvin verdict</a> made her “<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amanda-chase-gop-governor-candidate-sick-chauvin-guilty-verdict-2021-4">sick</a>” because she worried about how cops would feel about it. And she’s popular with the base, at least according to a February poll and a <a href="https://vagovernor.substack.com/p/the-latest-polling-in-the-republican">more recent one conducted by Democrats</a>.</li>
<li>Businessman and former lieutenant governor hopeful Pete Snyder is nearly as Trumpy, railing against the “woke” liberal establishment and highlighting endorsements from figures like <a href="https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/11/13/20963016/trump-promote-ken-cuccinelli-chad-wolf-dhs-acting-secretary-uscis-federal-vacancies-reform-act">Ken Cuccinelli</a> and <a href="https://www.vox.com/identities/2017/8/31/16236382/david-clarke-resigns">Sheriff David Clarke</a>.</li>
<li>Meanwhile, newcomer and former private equity group executive <a href="https://www.youngkinforgovernor.com/">Glenn Youngkin</a> has surged to the top of some <a href="https://www.facebook.com/VAFaithFreedom/posts/2925876564400319">recent</a> <a href="https://www.youngkinforgovernor.com/post/youngkin-dominates-liberty-university-college-republican-straw-poll">straw polls</a> by running a well-funded campaign that ticks <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA7g_U43JxA">all the conservative culture war boxes</a> but also talks about appealing to “Trump Republicans, libertarians, and Democrats” to win in November.</li>
<li>Cox, a delegate in the Virginia House and formerly the body’s speaker, remains the establishment favorite. He touts his know-how on implementing conservative policies, telling Vox, “it’s very important to have the experience to know how to run the state and to make good decisions.”</li>
</ul>
<p>But regardless of how candidates are positioning themselves, there are certain issues that keep coming up on the trail: support for law enforcement, the eradication of “critical race theory” from schools, and election integrity, to name a few.</p>
<p>And for some voters, like Heather, who attended Cox’s event in Galax, the last on that list is most important — or, more specifically, it’s the question of whether Joe Biden won the 2020 election that matters most.</p>
<p>“That’s a huge one,” she said. “That’s first and foremost for this election or any election.”</p>
<p>The future of the GOP after Trump is an open question. And barring disputes like <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/5/5/22419504/liz-cheney-trump-big-lie">the one playing out between US Rep. Liz Cheney and the bulk of the House GOP</a> right now, Virginia might be the best glimpse we get before the 2022 midterms.</p>
<p>Here’s what it looks like: There are seven candidates running for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, with four in real contention (Youngkin, Chase, Cox, and Snyder). All of them tout their traditional conservative bona fides — being pro-Second Amendment, anti-abortion, pro-business, and the like. Many of them rail against Covid-related closures, praising Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for keeping schools and businesses open throughout the pandemic.</p>
<p>“All across Virginia on day one, we are going to get every single school open — five days a week, every single week, with a real, live, breathing teacher in every classroom,” Snyder told a crowd at a brewery in Wytheville last weekend. “And folks, getting the schools open is only the beginning. We need to break the backs of this special interest monopoly of the teachers’ unions and bring real change to our schools.”</p>

<p>Given the country’s rate of vaccination, decreased community spread, and reopening, those pandemic issues might not be as relevant come November — or in 2022 and beyond. Trump, though, still will be.</p>
<p>At Snyder’s event, an emcee opened the afternoon by asking, “How many of you wish Donald Trump was president right now?” and a one-time Trump operator told the crowd they had to get to work to “defeat the socialists,” who “might even be worse than socialists, they’re bordering on communists.”</p>
<p>Youngkin, for his part, makes sure to note in his stump speech that he’s won praise from Trump, but he was also willing to criticize the former president’s tone as “a bit harsh” at <a href="https://loudounnow.com/2021/04/27/snyder-stumps-in-ashburn-as-convention-nears/">a campaign event in northern Virginia</a>.</p>
<p>Loyalty to Trump isn’t the key thing, argues <a href="https://www.peterdoran.org/">Peter Doran</a>, a former think tank CEO and one of the other three candidates recognized by the state party. (The others are former Roanoke Sheriff <a href="https://octaviajohnson.com/">Octavia Johnson</a> and retired Army Col. <a href="https://www.sergiodelapena.com/">Sergio de la Peña</a>.)</p>
<p>“Most Virginia Republicans are painted as these big hard-right, hard-conservative voters who only care about Donald Trump. That’s not true,” Doran said. “They care about their job. They care about what’s happening to their kids in this past year, and their education. And they care very deeply about the Republican Party’s failure to win over the past decade.”</p>
<p>Wilma, a mother of four and delegate in the convention, agreed, saying the GOP’s future relies on getting young people to understand conservative values like small government, constitutional rights, and concern about the deficit.</p>
<p>“My kids all look at the stimulus — it might be nice to get that money, that cash,” she said. “But eventually they know in the long run, they’re the generation that’s going to have to pay it back.”</p>
<p>Still, it’s no longer enough to tick the “fiscal conservative,” “Christian,” “gun owner,” and “anti-abortion” boxes. There are new ones on the list — keywords of the culture war issues the former president helped animate.</p>
<p>Take “critical race theory,” which Chase <a href="https://www.whsv.com/2021/04/20/republican-candidates-in-virginias-gubernatorial-race-meet-at-forum/">says</a> is part of the reason she decided to homeschool her children.</p>
<p>As <a href="https://www.vox.com/2020/9/24/21451220/critical-race-theory-diversity-training-trump">Vox’s Fabiola Cineas explained</a>, “critical race theory is a framework for grappling with racial power and white supremacy in America.” But it’s also become a catch-all term for what the Trump administration thought was an effort to “indoctrinate” American students and workers with “divisive and harmful sex- and race-based ideologies”:</p>

<p>“They’ve lumped everything together: critical race theory, the 1619 project, whiteness studies, talking about white privilege,” Kimberlé Crenshaw, a founding critical race theorist and UCLA and Columbia University law professor, told Vox. “What they have in common is they are discourses that refuse to participate in the lie that America has triumphantly overcome its racist history, that everything is behind us. None of these projects accept that it’s all behind us.”</p>

<p>It’s not just Chase using the term frequently: Almost all the candidates make sure to highlight their opposition to it; six have <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/virginia-governor-election-critical-race-theory-pledge">signed a pledge opposing critical race theory</a>. As journalist Dave Weigel pointed out on Twitter, Youngkin went so far as to upload multiple video clips of him criticizing it.</p>
<p>Trump’s impact, though, is perhaps most evident in the obsession with election security.</p>
<p>On one hand, Amanda Chase’s stance on the 2020 election sets her apart from the rest of the party — so much so that she, her supporters, and some outsiders claim the state party chose a convention rather than a primary to mitigate the risk of her ending up at the top of their ticket.</p>
<p>Last month, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-general-elections-virginia-elections-voting-495f43e4a5d5bbf049cc7c4fc008969b">in an interview with the AP</a>, Chase even questioned whether Biden won Virginia. (He carried it by 10 percentage points, as <a href="https://results.elections.virginia.gov/vaelections/2020%20November%20General/Site/Presidential.html">official election results</a> show.)</p>
<p>But none of the candidates can distance themselves too far from Trump’s lies and doubt-sowing about the 2020 election. They need only look to the US House to see the consequences of doing so.</p>

<p>Neither Youngkin nor Snyder will say Biden’s presidency is legitimate. Cox appears willing to do so (at least when he’s not at a diner in southwest Virginia).</p>
<p>And everyone has plans to improve election integrity. Youngkin promotes his “election security task force,” one plank of which is updating voter rolls monthly. He and Cox talk about making the state election commission nonpartisan. Snyder wants to “make Virginia No. 1 in ballot integrity.”</p>
<p>They’re all fairly anodyne-sounding proposals, but talking about things like that is a requirement for securing the nomination, says Stephen Farnsworth, a political scientist at the University of Mary Washington.</p>
<p>“While they may not support what happened on January 6, they do want to offer a position that shows some sympathy to the position of Trump supporters,” Farnsworth said.</p>
<p>That doesn’t necessarily mean the rhetoric will dog them during the general election — Youngkin’s spokesperson said they believe election security isn’t a partisan issue, “it’s a democracy issue.”</p>
<p>And “Kirk Cox is an example of a candidate who accepts Biden as a legitimate president but nevertheless speaks in ways that gives some solace to Trump supporters,” Farnsworth pointed out, adding it’s likely that “voters in November will not be dramatically impacted by what’s said in May.”</p>
<p>Still, the insistence on making America’s elections more secure helps perpetuate a world in which seven out of 10 Republican voters still say — per a <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/30/politics/cnn-poll-voting-rights/index.html">recent CNN poll</a> — that Biden didn’t win enough votes to be president.</p>
<p>And the continued questioning of elections has applied even to their own party’s choices. Some of those <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/lot-confusion-virginia-republicans-stumble-over-their-own-voter-id-n1265887">choices</a>, admittedly, merit scrutiny from candidates extolling the importance of signatures on absentee ballots. But it also led Youngkin, Cox, and Chase to write to the party, demanding it not use “untested and unproven software that creates uncertainty, lacks openness and transparency, and is inconsistent with our calls as a party for safe and secure elections.”</p>
<p>Now, every ranked-choice ballot will be counted by hand, at a ballroom at the Richmond Marriott, race by race. Chair Rich Anderson <a href="https://vagovernor.substack.com/p/rpv-chairman-rich-anderson-explains?token=eyJ1c2VyX2lkIjozOTY4OTQzLCJwb3N0X2lkIjozNTgyMjAwOSwiXyI6IlY4NFZXIiwiaWF0IjoxNjE5ODEwMzYyLCJleHAiOjE2MTk4MTM5NjIsImlzcyI6InB1Yi0xNTkxMzYiLCJzdWIiOiJwb3N0LXJlYWN0aW9uIn0.1lZsdq0s6UNwjm1iVaG04zkR_Qt6hnHKPCgA4OwrEww&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email#play">detailed to the Virginia Scope’s Brandon Jarvis</a> the lengths the Republican Party of Virginia is going to try to instill confidence in the process:</p>
<ul>
<li>Each ballot “will be seen by several eyes at the same time” to guard against transposition of numbers.</li>
<li>An out-of-state independent oversight team will be present.</li>
<li>Each candidate can have two representatives in the counting room, a party spokesperson told Vox. And Anderson said they can “be pretty much right up on the ballots, and eyes on them,” because he wants “them to feel comfortable with the process, to understand it, and have confidence in the final outcomes.”</li>
<li>The news media can be on site to report, and Anderson says he’ll provide regular updates on social media as well.</li>
</ul>
<p>They’ve also set aside money to livestream the counting process, because, Anderson said, “I just don’t want to repeat what was done in different places around the country where people were concerned about it being an opaque process.”</p>
<p>That’s left “no room” for any conspiracy theories about the counting to crop up, says John March, the state party communications director. Even so, there are bound to be some dissidents, and if it takes days, Coleman says he can <em>“</em>see the conspiracy theories now.”</p>
<p>“When you have a multi-candidate field in a multi-round election,” Farnsworth said, “the only sound bet is expecting that the party won’t get together and sing ‘kumbaya’ when this is all over.”</p>
<p>Virginia, once home to the capital of the Confederacy, has moved left enough in presidential races that on election night in 2020, the forecast group Decision Desk called it for Joe Biden right as polls closed. Trump ended up with just 44 percent of the vote here, Biden with 54.</p>
<p>But the GOP argues the state is not lost to them just yet.</p>
<p>In recent decades, Virginia had a peevish streak, electing a governor from the opposite party that just won the White House. The candidate to break that trend was former Gov. Terry McAuliffe — who’s running again this year.</p>
<p>And March points to the “unprecedented” level of interest in the convention as a sign of what’s to come: “54,000 people are getting involved on the grassroots level. ... You don’t really see that, and that just shows how excited Virginia Republicans are.”</p>
<p>Without Trump on the ballot this year, there might be an opening — a slim one for the governorship, but a bigger one to flip competitive state House districts. The person Republicans choose on Saturday will matter a lot.</p>
<p>“One thing I do think that could bode well for them is even though he lost, in 2017 Ed Gillespie got more votes than any previous Republican nominee for governor,” Coleman pointed out. “So maybe if Youngkin or whoever else can get that type of Gillespie turnout, which is definitely a question mark, and Democrats can’t get that anti-Trump turnout, maybe it’s going to be closer.”</p>
<p>Even so, it’s going to be an uphill battle for the GOP to narrow margins in some areas, let alone retake them. Take Chesterfield County, which Republicans easily won for decades. In 2020, it went for Biden by more than 6 percentage points.</p>
<p>“Going forward,” Coleman says, “this may be the last potential cycle where the Republicans could win a county like Chesterfield, and that may not even be enough — it may be necessary but not sufficient.”</p>
<p>Democrats seem to think it won’t be.</p>
<p>“We’re ready for a fight; we expect a fight. We expect a tough race,” said David Turner, the communications director for the Democratic Governors Association. “But what I would say is you can’t report accurately on the state of Virginia without acknowledging there’s pre-Trump and there’s post-Trump, and we’re still post-Trump.”</p>

COVID Vaccines risk “sterilising an entire generation of Children” according to respected Doctor

<p><strong>COVID ‘vaccines’ risk “sterilising an entire generation of children”, as well as creating a “pandemic we cannot reign in” and “must be halted immediately”.</strong></p>
<p>That was the chilling message to ‘The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’ (CDC) by a doctor with more than 30 years of scientific experience in toxicology and mechanistic biology.</p>

<p>Dr Janci Chunn Lindsay, who holds a doctorate in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Texas, believes the current batch of ‘vaccines’ – distributed only under Emergency Use Authorisation – are “gene therapy” and must be stopped due to safety concerns – believing they are actually “making the pandemic worse”.</p>
<p>In worrying developments worldwide, Governments are now increasing the pressure on parents to have their children ‘vaccinated’, despite kids being at virtually no risk of death from Covid-19.</p>
<p>In the US, almost 4,000 children have received an emergency Covid-19 injection and, from that figure, nine have died within 28 days of receiving it, seven almost died, three were permanently disabled and 71 had to see a doctor, were admitted to hospital or had their stay prolonged.</p>
<p>In the UK’s Yellow Card adverse event reporting system, ‘vaccines’ both the Government and NHS repeat are “safe and effective” have caused 755,568 adverse reactions, including blindness, brain damage, stroke and 1,102 deaths. It is thought that as low as one per cent of all adverse reactions and deaths are ever reported to this system.</p>
<p>Despite these figures, one teacher in the UK, Ed Stubbs from Morpeth School in Tower Hamlets, has released a document to tackle what he sees as “vaccine hesitancy” in children, after working alongside Queen Mary University London. These have now been published by the Stephen Hawking Foundation.</p>
<p>And Dr Chris Smith, a Consultant Virologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, said he thought vaccinating children was a good idea in the short term to give a “belt and braces” control of the virus because kids can “still catch it and pass it on”.</p>
<p>But with most of the vulnerable groups on both sides of the Atlantic having received at least one dose, parents will not doubt want to know who exactly their children are being protected from.</p>
<p>The majority of children experience mild or no symptoms of the virus, with a study by Stockholm University finding that kids aged 18 or under have a 99.9603 per cent chance of survival, even if they have one or more underlying conditions.</p>
<p>And in a public comment to the CDC as part of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), Dr Lindsay emphasised her concerns.</p>
<p>She said: “In the mid 1990s, I aided in the development of a temporary human contraceptive vaccine, which ended up causing unintended autoimmune ovarian destruction and sterility in animal test models, despite efforts against this and sequence analyses that did not predict this.</p>
<p>“I strongly feel that all the gene-therapy vaccines must be halted immediately due to safety concerns on several fronts.</p>
<p>“First there is credible reason to believe that the gene therapies will cross react with the syncytin and reproductive proteins in sperm, ova and placenta and lead to impaired fertility and reproductive outcomes.</p>
<p>“Respected virologist Bill Gallaher made excellent arguments as to why you would expect cross reaction due to beta sheet conformation similarities between spike protein and SIN-1 and -2.</p>
<p>“I have yet to see a single immunological study which disproves this, despite the fact that it would literally take the manufacturers a single day to do these syncytin studies to ascertain this. It’s been over a year since the assertions were first made that this [the body attacking its own syncytin proteins due to similarity in spike protein structure] could occur.</p>
<p>“And there have [also] been reports of impaired spermatogenesis and placental findings from both the natural infection, vaccinated and syncytin knockout animal models that have similar placental pathology, implicating a syncytin-mediated role in these outcomes. </p>
<p>“Additionally, we have heard of multiple reports of menses irregularities in those vaccinated. These must be investigated.</p>
<p>“We simply cannot put these gene-therapy vaccines in our children who are at 0.002 per cent risk for Covid mortality if infected, or any more of the child-bearing age population without thoroughly investigating this matter – we could potentially sterilize an entire generation.</p>
<p>“Speculation that this will not occur and a few anecdotal reports of pregnancies in the new trials are not sufficient proof that this is not impacting on a population-wide scale.”</p>
<p>Dr Lindsay also spoke against the widely reported concerns of vaccine-induced blood disorders. Indeed, the group Doctors for Covid Ethics have called the current ‘vaccines’ “unnecessary, ineffective and unsafe” and have written to the European Medicines Agency three times, warning executive director Emer Cooke that cerebral venous thrombosis (CVST) dominates the list of adverse reactions from the ‘vaccines’.</p>
<p>Dr Lindsay said: “All of the gene therapies are causing coagulopathy. This is not isolated to one manufacturer and this is not isolated to one age group, as we are seeing coagulopathy deaths in healthy young adults with no secondary comorbidities.</p>
<p>“There have been 795 reports related to blood clotting disorder as of April 9 in the [US] VAERS reporting system, 338 of these being due to thrombocytopenia. There are forward and backward mechanistic proofs for why this is happening. The natural infection is known to cause coagulopathies due to the spike proteins. All gene-therapy vaccines direct the body to make the spike protein.</p>
<p>“Zhang et al in [a scientific paper published in the Journal of Hematology & Oncology] in September 2020 showed that if you infuse spike protein into mice that have humanized ACE-2 receptors on blood platelets that you also get disseminated thrombosis.</p>
<p>“Spike protein incubated with human blood in vitro also caused blood clot development which was resistant to fibrolysis. The spike protein that’s causing thrombocytic events, which cannot be resolved through natural means and all vaccines must be halted until they can be reformulated to guard against this diverse effect.”</p>
<p>Up against a three-minute time limit imposed on all public speakers at the meeting last week, Dr Lindsay was cut off while trying to make her third point, which she later gave in an interview with science journalist Jennifer Margulis.</p>
<p>Dr Lindsay said: “There is strong evidence for immune escape and that inoculation under pandemic pressure with these leaky vaccines is driving the creation of more lethal mutants that are both newly infecting a younger age demographic and causing more Covid-related deaths across the population than would have occurred without intervention. That is, there is evidence that the vaccines are making the pandemic worse.</p>
<p>“It is clear that we are seeing a temporal immune depression immediately following the inoculations [see World Meter Global Covid deaths counts following inoculation dates] and there are immunosuppressive regions on spike proteins, as well as Syn-2, that could be likely causing this, through a T-cell mediated mechanism. If we do not stop this vaccine campaign until these issues can be investigated, we may see a phenomenon such as we see in chickens with Marek’s disease.</p>
<p>“We have enough evidence now to see a clear correlation with increased Covid deaths and the vaccine campaigns. This is not a coincidence. It is an unfortunate unintended effect of the vaccines. We simply must not turn a blind eye and pretend this is not occurring. We must halt all Covid vaccine administration immediately, before we create a true pandemic that we cannot reign in.”</p>
<p>Last night Doctors for Covid Ethics, a group who have been working tirelessly in a bid to stop more lives being put at risk unnecessarily, reiterated their stance, calling the attempt to ‘vaccinate’ kids as “reckless”.</p>
<p>They said in a statement: “We welcome this call to stop these experimental injections for children because most children already have natural immunity to Covid.</p>
<p>“Furthermore, the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines has never been demonstrated in this age group. Based on the experience with other age groups and on initial results on children, it must be expected that the vaccination will harm and kill many more children than the virus ever would.</p>
<p>“Non life-threatening symptoms and long Covid do not in any way require vaccination. But the vaccines definitely have a risk of fatalities, somewhere between 1 in 50,000 to as many as 1 in 10,000.</p>
<p>“That means if we vaccinate 10 million children, we might expect up to 1000 previously healthy children to die.</p>
<p>“That is reckless, an abandonment of all the usual rules we work to, where we give our lives to give children a chance at life.”</p>

<p>A drone packed with explosives hit an Iraqi base housing US troops early Saturday causing damage but no casualties, the Iraqi military and the US-led coalition said.</p>
<p>The attack on the Ain Al-Asad air base was the fourth targeting US troops in Iraq in less than a week, as an armed campaign blamed on pro-Iranian groups intensifies.</p>
<p>"Each attack... undermines the authority of Iraqi institutions, the rule of law and Iraqi national sovereignty," said coalition spokesman Colonel Wayne Marotto.</p>
<p>"No injuries reported. A hangar was damaged," he said in a tweet.</p>
<p>It was only the second time authorities publicly confirmed a drone had been used in an attack on a target inside Iraq.</p>
<p>In April, a drone packed with explosives hit the coalition's Iraq headquarters in the military part of the airport in the Kurdish regional capital Arbil.</p>
<p>The attack sent shock waves around Iraq -- the tactic poses a headache for the coalition, as drones can evade the C-RAM air defences it has installed to protect its bases.</p>
<p>But an Iraqi government official told AFP that the Arbil strike was not the first use of a drone against a target inside Iraq.</p>
<p>"Drones were used by pro-Iran groups more than once before the attack in Arbil," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.</p>
<p>In the meantime, there has been no let-up in rocket and other attacks carried out by the coalition's foes over the past 18 months.</p>
<p>Since last Sunday, they have fired two rockets at Ain al-Assad, six at the Balad air base and two at Baghdad airport, all of which host coalition troops.</p>
<p>The US embassy in Baghdad and coalition supply convoys have also come under repeated attack.</p>
<p>Many of the attacks have been carried out in the name of shadowy groups regarded as little more than cover names for the main pro-Iran factions. Others have gone unclaimed.</p>

<p>Top U.S. fuel pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline has shut its entire network after a cyber attack, the company said in a statement on Friday.</p>
<p>Colonial's network supplies fuel from U.S refiners on the Gulf Coast to the populous eastern and southern United States. The company transports 2.5 million barrels per day of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other refined products through 5,500 miles (8,850 km) of pipelines.</p>
<p>Colonial Pipeline says it transports 45% of East Coast fuel supply.</p>
<p>The company learned of the attack on Friday and took systems offline to contain the threat, it said in the statement. That action has temporarily halted operations and affected some of its IT systems, it said.</p>
<p>The company has engaged a third-party cybersecurity firm to launch an investigation, and Colonial has contacted law enforcement and other federal agencies, it said.</p>
<p>Colonial did not give further details or say for how long its pipelines would be shut.</p>
<p>Reuters reported earlier on Friday that Colonial had shut its main gasoline and distillate lines.</p>
<p>During the trading session on Friday, Gulf Coast cash prices for gasoline and diesel edged lower.</p>
<p>Both gasoline and diesel futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose more than crude prices during the day. Gasoline futures gained 0.6% to settle at $2.1269 a gallon, while diesel futures rose 1.1% to settle at $2.0106 a gallon.</p>
<p>Longer-term price effects will depend on the amount of time that the lines are shut. If barrels are not able to make it onto the lines, Gulf Coast prices could weaken further, while prices in New York Harbor could rise, one market participant said.</p>
<p>Colonial significantly shut down its gasoline and distillate lines during Hurricane Harvey, which hit the Gulf Coast in 2017.</p>
<p>During that time, spot Gulf Coast gasoline prices rose to a five-year high, while diesel prices rose to around a four-year high.</p>

<p>Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal has issued an urgent appeal to raise funds for India, which is experiencing one of the worst outbreaks of COVID-19.</p>
<p>"India needs our help and it's our moral responsibility to rise to the challenge. This is a global pandemic and until we crush the virus everywhere, we cannot fully recover," Ms Jayapal said on Friday.</p>
<p>Pramila Jayapal, who was recently in India to visit her family before the surge spiraled out of control, said all the funds raised would go to three initiatives.</p>
<p>First is the WISH Foundation, which works round-the-clock to set up COVID-19 care centres. Second is GiveIndia which supports families living in poverty who have lost a loved one often the sole breadwinner with direct cash payments of Rs 30,000.</p>
<p>Third is EdelGive Foundation, which in coordination with Goonj and Jan Sahas, works to provide migrants and vulnerable population cash support, food and health supplies, the Indian-American Congresswoman said.</p>
<p>Talking about her recent visit to India, she said, "The cases had started ramping up, and my parents who are 80 and 90 years old were both diagnosed with COVID-19 just weeks after receiving their first dose of a vaccine."</p>
<p>"They both ended up in the hospital and have recovered but I shudder to think what would have happened had they not been vaccinated, or had they gotten sick at the height of the surge we're seeing now, she said.</p>
<p>Describing the situation in India as dire, Ms Jayapal said hundreds of thousands of new COVID-19 cases are confirmed every day. "There are no hospital beds open. There is no oxygen supply left. People are dying before they can even get to a doctor," she said.<br />

<p>A young Bill and Melinda Gates, riding in the back of a truck, were on the continent for the first time in 1993 -- there to see animals, nature and discuss their priorities as a soon-to-be married couple. <p>It was also the beginning of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the philanthropic behemoth the couple built over the course of their 27-year marriage, which ended this week. In their note announcing the split, they said they would continue running the foundation together.</p>
<p>Despite this assurance, news of the divorce sent a shock wave through the world of philanthropy.</p>
<p><strong>A Commitment To Giving</strong></p>
<p>In 2010, the Gateses, now worth about $145 billion, signed the Giving Pledge, a promise they co-created for the world's richest people to donate the majority of their wealth in their lifetime or will. They committed "the vast majority of our assets to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation." It remains to be seen how that money will be distributed in the wake of their split.</p>
<p>The pledge is in no way legally binding, and Bill and Melinda have already explored other ways of giving back, tackling climate change and gender inequality, respectively, through their own investment firms. Their individual giving could expand now that there are two ultra-high-net worth households instead of one, said Elizabeth Dale, associate professor of nonprofit leadership at Seattle University.</p>
<p>The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is no ordinary family philanthropy; it's the largest of its kind on the planet. With more than 1,600 employees and offices around the world, it has a $50 billion endowment, and has already distributed more than $50 billion since its inception to causes like vaccine development and women's empowerment. It rivals large countries in its support, contributing more resources to research and development to combat malaria, tuberculosis and other diseases.</p>
<p>It also has its ties to Wall Street.</p>
<p>The foundation trust distributes tens of millions of dollars in fees every year to investment managers and financial services firms. Some of the biggest recipients disclosed in the trust's most recent tax return included Marathon Asset Management, Wright Management, State Street Corporation and Green Court Capital Management, who all received more than $7 million in fees.</p>
<p>Any change to Bill or Melinda's involvement in the foundation would have a big impact because of its unusual board size. Bill and Melinda make up two-thirds of the foundation's trustees. The third member is their friend Warren Buffett, who has added more than $27 billion of his own money to the foundation's coffers over the past 15 years.</p>
<p>The Ford Foundation, which is roughly a fifth the size of the Gates Foundation, has 15 members on its board. The Rockefeller Foundation, at a 10th of the size, has no fewer than 12 at any time. And unlike those organizations, its living donors can influence its priorities and operations, said Greg Witkowski, a senior lecturer of nonprofit management at Columbia University.</p>
<p>Dale and Witkowski agree the split won't immediately impact the foundation or the grants that have already been promised, but it could impact its future depending on how the couple's approach to philanthropy evolves as they separate.</p>
<p><strong>Differing Approaches To Philanthropy</strong></p>
<p>Greg Ratliff, who worked at the Gates Foundation for 10 years and is now senior vice president of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, said their work was family-driven, meaning they only took on causes that Bill and Melinda were interested in. They each brought very different approaches to the work, he added.</p>
<p>"It was sort of head and heart, and Melinda brought the heart and the personal component," said Ratliff, who worked on education and education technology projects at the foundation. He remembers how Bill would gravitate toward whatever technology or tools they were implementing in the schools, and Melinda would look to the impact their work had on the students and teachers.</p>
<p>Dale said the fact that they have their own separate interests means their individual giving outside of the foundation could pick up.</p>
<p>That's what happened following Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Scott's divorce in 2019. As a couple, they weren't big philanthropists, especially relative to their $137 billion net worth at the time. Shortly after their split, Scott received a quarter of the former couple's Amazon.com Inc. stake, worth about $38 billion then. She signed the Giving Pledge and in 2020 went on a philanthropic tear, giving away almost $6 billion to hundreds of small organizations in a matter of months.</p>
<p>In other small coincidences, the Gates announcement of a split came in the form of a Twitter message, signed "Melinda Gates and Bill Gates," a departure from the "Bill and Melinda" on pretty much everything else the couple signs. And like Scott, Melinda has prominently embraced her maiden name since they announced the split, going by Melinda French Gates.</p>
<p>The two women have worked together on shared causes, including the Equality Can't Wait Challenge in 2020, a $30 million award to organizations that come up with ways to advance women's power by 2030.</p>
<p>In 2015, Melinda started Pivotal Ventures, an investment and incubation company, "as a separate, independent organization" from the foundation to focus on solving issues impacting women and families. Bill also has his own side projects, like Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a fund that fights climate change by investing in green startups.</p>
<p><strong>Dividing The Assets</strong></p>
<p>How the Gates fortune is split could determine which causes get more attention. Their complicated holdings have already begun untangling, with more than $2 billion transferred to Melinda this week alone. The bulk of it is from about 14.1 million shares in Canadian National Railway Co.</p>
<p>For now, the foundation is projecting an image of calm.</p>
<p>Carla Sandine, spokesperson for PATH, a global health non-profit and major grantee of the Gates Foundation, said they've heard the same thing as everyone else: nothing is going to change.</p>
<p>"I think we have to trust that," said Sandine. PATH, based in Seattle, has received more than $2.2 billion from the Gates Foundation.</p>
<p>The fact that the divorce of two people has caused so much anxiety and uncertainty in the nonprofit world highlights the problems with the modern philanthropy model, said Erica Foldy, associate professor of public and nonprofit management at New York University's Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.</p>
<p>"What a few individuals decide to do has a massive impact on the health and well-being of millions or even billions of people," Foldy said.</p>
<p>Sandine agrees that it's frustrating that the world depends on the generosity of individuals to solve its problems.</p>
<p>"I think the fact that we would even talk about the future of global public health hinging on the relationship between individuals, I think it's reflective of a larger problem," Sandine said. "Public health around the world is not properly funded, so Bill and Melinda Gates have been filling massive gaps."</p>

Latest COVID Vaccine PSA Is Just Doctors Yelling ‘Shut The F**k Up’ and ‘Get The Vaccine’

<p><strong>A new pro-vaccine message from the liberal television program “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” features multiple individuals identified as physicians screaming expletives into the camera in a profane attempt to pressure vaccine skeptics into receiving COVID-19 inoculations.</strong></p>
<p>“We get that people are skeptical of politicians and celebrities telling them what to do but we should listen to doctors,” Kimmel said. “The men and women who have been on the front lines of the pandemic risking their lives to save ours are frustrated . . . so as a public service we asked some real doctors and nurses to offer their best advice to those who are on the fence about the vaccine, and pay attention, because this is important.”</p>
<p>The footage then cuts to the individual doctors and nurses reciting their credentials and repeating negative tropes about vaccine skeptics in a manner that is presumably supposed to be interpreted as comedic. Towards the end of the video, the medical professionals begin screaming expletives into the camera.</p>
<p>“Tell him to shut the f**k up!” one woman shrills in reference to an imagined vaccine skeptic, while flashing an obscene gesture at the camera. “Just grow the f**k up and get the vaccine.” The assorted doctors and nurses then begin screaming “Get the vaccine” into their webcams.</p>

<p>The Democrat Party’s previous efforts to cajole conservatives into getting the vaccine consisted of PSAs aired during NASCAR races and on Country Music TV, <a href="https://nationalfile.com/biden-regime-targets-unvaccinated-white-americans-with-pro-vax-psas-on-nascar-country-music-tv/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">as reported by National File</a>:</p>

Flashback: Judge Tells #BlackLivesMatter Lawyer to Shut Up

<p><strong>Viral flashback footage circulating on social media shows Broward County bond court Judge John Hurley berating a lawyer for attempting to pull the race card in a case that involved a police encounter.</strong></p>
<p>In the footage from 2015, Hurley stops a lawyer from attempting to claim his client, who had fired shots at officers earlier, was running and hiding from police because he feared for his life.</p>

<p>“Your honor, in light of what’s happening in this country, with unarmed black men being killed by police,” the lawyer attempts to argue before being interrupted by Hurley.</p>
<p>“Don’t even go down that road,” the judge says. “I am not going to let you go down that road.”</p>
<p>Unfortunately, Hurley <a href="https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/colorful-south-florida-bond-court-judge-john-hurley-moving-on/121387/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">left</a> the bench after serving for eight years.</p>

Defense Sec. Asked if U.S. Will Shoot Down Chinese Rocket

<p><strong>Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was asked during a press conference Thursday whether there was a plan in place to deal with debris from a Chinese rocket that’s expected to fall to earth this weekend.</strong></p>

<p>His answer raised questions about whether the DoD was dismissing a possible threat to the US.</p>
<p>“At this point, we don’t have a plan to shoot the rocket down. We’re hopeful it will land in a place where it won’t harm anyone, hopefully in the ocean or someplace like that.”</p>
<p>He wen’t on to chastise China for their space program’s irresponsibility, though he did not specifically name the nation.</p>
<p>“I think this speaks to the fact that for those of us who operate in the space domain, there should be a requirement to operate in a safe and thoughtful mode and make sure that we take those kinds of things into consideration as we plan and conduct operations,” Austin stated.</p>
<p>Asked if the department had the capability to shoot down the rocket, Austin answered, “We have the capability to do a lot of things, but we don’t have a plan to shoot it down as we speak.”</p>
<p>Late last month, China fired off its 10-story tall Long March 5B rocket sending the Tianhe module into space where it will later serve as living quarters for Chinese astronauts.</p>
<p>Typically rocket debris disintegrates as it falls through earth’s atmosphere and/or it lands in the ocean out of harm’s way, however the situation is unique as scientists have not been able to pinpoint exactly where the pieces will land, other than to say it will land this weekend.</p>
