<p>Reporters Without Borders called Saturday on US President Joe Biden to make "a special plan for evacuating endangered Afghan journalists" from Taliban-controlled Kabul.</p>
<p>RSF said the United States currently seemed to be concerned only with the evacuation "of its own citizens and former employees".</p>
<p>"This is blocking the evacuation of those on the lists of sensitive persons who are in danger," it added.</p>
<p>"We are receiving dozens and dozens of urgent evacuation requests," said RSF chief Christophe Deloire.</p>
<p>"Our problem today is not getting visas or seats on planes, it is making it possible for these people to access planes."</p>
<p>The NGO is calling on the US to postpone the end of its military operation at Kabul airport so journalists and rights activists from various countries and organisations can be identified and given access.</p>
<p>"It will be materially impossible to complete the evacuation of all those in great danger, including Afghan journalists, by 31 August," it said.</p>
<p>"The image of the United States as a defender of press freedom and human rights is at stake," Deloire said.</p>
<p>The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) said it had received "hundreds of requests for help" from Afghan journalists, mostly women, who are "in panic and fear".</p>
<p>The Taliban, looking for a <em>Deutsche Welle</em> journalist now based in Germany, shot dead a member of his family on Wednesday and seriously wounded another, German radio reported.</p>

<p>After 20 years of devastating war, Afghans in cities far from the capital Kabul are feeling a mix of relief and dread about what awaits them under the Taliban.</p>
<p>The triumph of the hardline Islamist group and the mass surrender of government forces has brought a long-desired respite from fighting, which has left tens of thousands dead and millions homeless since 2001.</p>
<p>"The people are very happy. There will be no more corruption, and maybe no more bombings," a journalist in the southern city of Lashkar Gah, in Helmand province, told AFP.</p>
<p>But whether women can work, get education at all levels and be able to mix with men are some of the most pressing questions.</p>
<p>A school principal in the northeastern city of Kunduz, where the Taliban traditionally have less influence, told AFP the group was permitting education of girls of all ages, but under strict segregation.</p>
<p>"The Taliban said if women are teaching girls, then there is no problem," he said over WhatsApp.</p>
<p>"Women teachers can go to school but they cannot work together with men."</p>
<p>In another diktat, the Taliban told him no music or singing was allowed.</p>
<p>But in the markets and in health clinics, women could still be seen without male chaperones, he observed.</p>
<p>The Taliban they spoke to did not say if the new rules had come from above or were being locally implemented.</p>
<p>The militants have repeatedly promised a different kind of rule to their brutal regime of the 1990s that saw women confined to their homes, most entertainment banned, and punishments including stonings and public executions.</p>
<p>They have pledged to respect progress made in women's rights, but only according to their strict interpretation of Islamic law.</p>
<p>The Taliban rebranding is being treated with scepticism, with experts questioning whether it will be a short-term bid to seek international recognition and a continuation of vital aid.</p>
<p><strong>Wearing burqa out of fear</strong></p>
<p>A midwife who works for a foreign NGO in Lashkar Gah said she was told to stay home until there was more clarity from the Taliban.</p>
<p>"I'm really not happy because I need the money," she said.</p>
<p>The Taliban have not yet formed a government, leaving room for differences in how they are asserting their authority in newly seized territories.</p>
<p>An employee at Lashkar Gah University, who said many of his female colleagues still attended work this week, met with Taliban officials after they asked about next semester's curriculum.</p>
<p>"It was new to them. They are just villagers," he told AFP over WhatsApp.</p>
<p>Some women in the city, out of fear, had resumed wearing the all-enveloping burqa -- already common in the deeply conservative south, he observed this week.</p>
<p>But he recounted how the militants -- who once arrested men for not letting their beards grow -- did not interfere when he went to the barber for a shave this week.</p>
<p>In Herat, a cosmopolitan city just 150 kilometres (100 miles) from the Iranian border and influenced by Persian culture, men and women previously walked together in parks at night.</p>
<p>Not anymore.</p>
<p>An employee of the local university, concerned about her professional future, says that she now has to work without men, and worries about receiving her salary.</p>
<p>In Afghanistan's second-largest city of Kandahar -- the capital of the first Taliban regime -- the owner of a trendy cafe has kept his establishment open.</p>
<p>"The Taliban have so far not created any problems," he said.</p>
<p>But the customers are no longer coming.</p>

<p>The United States advised Americans in Afghanistan to avoid travelling to Kabul airport on Saturday as thousands gathered trying to flee the country almost a week after the Islamist terrorists took control.</p>
<p>The advisory came after Taliban co-founder Mullah Baradar arrived in Kabul for talks with other leaders to hammer out a new Afghan government after the Taliban's lightning advance across the country.</p>
<p>Images circulated on social media this week of Afghans rushing towards a US C-17 transport plane and clinging to its side. A separate video showed what appeared to be two people falling from a military plane as it flew out of Kabul.</p>
<p>Since then, crowds have grown at the airport where armed Taliban have urged those without travel documents to go home. At least 12 people have been killed in and around the single runway airfield since Sunday, NATO and Taliban officials said.</p>
<p>"Because of potential security threats outside the gates at the Kabul airport, we are advising US citizens to avoid travelling to the airport and to avoid airport gates at this time unless you receive individual instructions from a US government representative to do so," the US Embassy advisory said.</p>
<p>The chaos was not the responsibility of the Taliban, an official of the group told Reuters. "The West could have had a better plan to evacuate."</p>
<p>Switzerland postponed a charter flight from Kabul because of the chaos, its foreign ministry said.</p>
<p>"The security situation around Kabul airport has worsened significantly in the last hours. A large number of people in front of the airport and sometimes violent confrontations are hindering access to the airport," the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.</p>
<p>The Taliban completed their sudden advance across the country as US-led forces pulled out, coinciding with what German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Saturday was the "breathtaking collapse" of the Afghan army.</p>
<p>The Taliban official said the group planned to ready a new model for governing Afghanistan within the next few weeks, with separate teams to tackle internal security and financial issues.</p>
<p>"Experts from the former government will be brought in for crisis management," he told Reuters.</p>
<p>The new government structure would not be a democracy by Western definitions, but "it will protect everyone's rights", the official added.</p>
<p>The Taliban, who follow an ultra-hardline version of Sunni Islam, have presented a more moderate face since returning to power, saying they want peace, will not take revenge against old enemies and will respect the rights of women within the framework of Islamic law.</p>
<p>When in power from 1996-2001, they stopped women from working or going out without wearing an all-enveloping burqa and stopped children from going to school.</p>
<p>Baradar will meet terrorist commanders, former government leaders and policy makers, as well as religious scholars among others, the official said without elaborating.</p>
<p>Russia said it was important to establish good and neighbourly relations with Afghanistan. EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Saturday that the European Union has not recognised the Taliban nor was it holding political talks with them.</p>
<p>About 12,000 foreigners and Afghans working for embassies and international aid groups have been evacuated from Kabul airport since Taliban insurgents entered the capital, a NATO official said.</p>
<p>"The evacuation process is slow, as it is risky, for we don't want any form of clashes with Taliban members or civilians outside the airport," the NATO official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.</p>
<p>"We don't want to start a blame game regarding the evacuation plan."</p>
<p><strong>Harrowing Tales</strong></p>
<p>Individual Afghans and international aid and advocacy groups have reported harsh retaliation against protests, and roundups of those who had formerly held government positions, criticised the Taliban or worked with Americans.</p>
<p>"We have heard of some cases of atrocities and crimes against civilians," said the Taliban official on condition of anonymity.</p>
<p>"If (members of the Taliban) are doing these law and order problems, they will be investigated," he said. "We can understand the panic, stress and anxiety. People think we will not be accountable, but that will not be the case."</p>
<p>Former officials told harrowing tales of hiding from the Taliban in recent days as gunmen went from door to door. One family of 16 described running to the bathroom, lights off and children's mouths covered, in fear for their lives.</p>
<p>Baradar, the chief of the Taliban's political office, was part of the group's negotiating team in the Qatar capital of Doha.</p>
<p>Reported to have been one of the most trusted commanders of the former Taliban supreme leader Mullah Omar, Baradar was captured in 2010 by security forces in Pakistan's southern city of Karachi and released in 2018.</p>
<p>The delay in forming a new Afghan government or even announcing who will lead a new Taliban administration underlines how unprepared the movement was for the sudden collapse of the Western-trained forces it had been fighting for years.</p>
<p>The Taliban, whose overall leader, Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, has so far been silent publicly, must also unite disparate groups within the movement whose interests may not always coincide now that victory has been achieved.</p>
<p>As Western nations have struggled to speed up evacuations, President Joe Biden confronted criticism about the planning for the withdrawal of US troops.</p>
<p>"I have seen no question of our credibility from our allies," Biden told reporters after a speech from the White House on Friday. "As a matter of fact, the exact opposite ... we're acting with dispatch, we're acting, committing to what we said we would do."</p>
<p>He insisted every American who wanted to would be evacuated.</p>
<p>NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg called the situation outside Kabul airport "very dire and difficult", as several member nations pressed for evacuations to continue beyond a US deadline of August 31.</p>

<p>The WEF went to the trouble of creating a video to illustrate a write up on its site that talks about what the organization calls long-term effects of the COVID pandemic, divides these into five categories, and stresses the central role of “digital transformation” affecting economies, people, and governments.</p>

<p>A new, innovative form of invasive mass surveillance features in passing in one of the categories of these long-term effects.</p>
<p>The predictions touch on the way office workers forced to work remotely will live and work going forward, suggests that people will be increasingly boxed in and physically constrained in their everyday activities to what’s referred to as “15 minute (away from home) spaces” like restaurants and gyms we’ll be likely to go to in the future.</p>
<p>Other points concern the rise of food delivery and what the WEF, which teamed up with US consulting firm Cognizant to produce this, calls “ghost kitchens,” then the future of education, which is said to likely be a hybrid of homeschooling and students attending classes in schools.</p>
<p>But what’s particularly interesting is how the WEF envisages the future of security: putting to use a little-thought-of unique biometric marker: the human heartbeat.</p>

<p><strong>San Francisco is preparing to suspend nearly two-dozen employees with the police, fire, and sheriff’s departments who have refused to disclose their vaccination status, while hundreds of employees from other departments are about to be similarly put on notice, according to the <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/S-F-moves-to-suspend-police-fire-and-16399089.php"><em>San Francisco Chronicle</em></a>.</strong></p>
<p>The city sent notifications to 20 employees in the police, fire and sheriff’s departments for failing to meet an Aug. 12 disclosure deadline, while employees from other departments – including Public Health and the Municipal Transportation Agency, could receive similar letters next week.</p>
<p>The city is recommending a <strong>10-day unpaid suspension </strong>for 11 Police Department employees, seven Fire Department employees and two employees in the Sheriff’s Department.</p>
<p>“The health and well being of city employees and the public we serve are top priorities during our emergency response to COVID-19,” reads the letter which was obtained by the <em>Chronicle</em>. “Your failure to comply with the vaccination status reporting requirement endangers the health and safety of the city’s workforce and the public we serve.”</p>

<p><em>The letters will arrive as San Francisco grapples with <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/health/article/San-Francisco-has-among-the-highest-coronavirus-16383566.php">a surge in coronavirus cases</a> fueled by the delta variant, with the unvaccinated making up the overwhelming majority of those who are hospitalized or killed by the virus. The data shows that the vaccines are extremely safe and very effective at preventing severe COVID-19.</em></p>
<p><em>San Francisco was the <a href="https://www.sfchronicle.com/health/article/S-F-will-require-all-city-workers-to-be-16269840.php">first large city in the country</a> to require all municipal employees to be vaccinated against the coronavirus, unless they have a valid religious or medical exemption. All employees had to report their vaccination status to the city by Aug. 12, and <strong>those without valid exemptions must be inoculated 10 weeks after the Food and Drug Administration fully approves the vaccines</strong>. <p><strong>Former senior Trump administration defense and intelligence officials watching the disaster unfolding this week in Afghanistan say that the incoming Biden administration rejected their plans for a stable withdrawal, which included keeping a small unit to conduct counterterrorism operations against al-Qaeda, the Islamic State, and the Taliban if necessary.</strong></p>
<p>Three former senior officials told Breitbart News that the small force of about 800 U.S. troops would have been left in place to continue the counterterrorism mission, but to also provide intelligence and logistical support to the Afghan military and prevent the kind of collapse the world is witnessing now in Afghanistan.</p>
<p>“That was the hope…to be able to do the drone mission and the counterterrorism support, and also advising specifically the Afghan Special Forces who were doing a lot of the [counterterrorism] efforts…And Biden just pulled them out as well,” one former senior defense official said.</p>
<p><em>A recent FBI report has cleared Roger Stone and Alex Jones of any attempt to coordinate an insurrection at the D.C. Capitol on Jan. 6th.</em></p>
<p>“We were going to be leaving a small force behind regardless,” a second former senior defense official said, adding about former President Donald Trump, “When things started to go bad, he’s changed. I mean, he had a history of changing his mind when it, when he realized it was going to go badly.”</p>
<p>“He didn’t want to continue a forever war of nation building in Afghanistan, but did he literally say, you know, have no one on the ground? <p><strong>Minutes after President Biden on Friday said the mission to destroy Al Qaeda in Afghanistan was a success and that he knew of no circumstances where Americans had been unable to reach Kabul airport, he was flatly contradicted by the Pentagon. </strong></p>
<p>Al Qaeda remains present in Afghanistan, said Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby during a briefing, and yes, he was aware of reports of Americans being beaten by the Taliban as they tried to reach safety.</p>
<p>The contradiction will raise further doubt about whether Biden is in control of the White House messaging operation, let alone the chaotic effort to bring Americans home.</p>
<p>He cancelled plans to return home to Wilmington on Friday evening as officials scrambled to give off an air of urgency. </p>
<p>He even answered questions about Afghanistan for the first time in 10 days after delivering a speech in the East Room of the White House.   </p>
<p><em>American lives are now held hostage by accelerating Taliban Wahhabi rule in Afghanistan. There are reports that the kill list is long as identities and bank records of Americans were retrieved from the US Embassy. As the outer perimeter outside the airport becomes a chaotic hunting ground.</em></p>
<p>Would he send troops out of their base in Hamid Karzai International Airport to help stranded Americans reach safety, he was asked.  </p>

New study finds billions of vaccinated people are at real risk of suffering Antibody-Dependent Enhancement

<p><strong>For over a year, intensive research conducted by health experts has brought to light increasing concerns about “Antibody-Dependent Enhancement” (ADE), a phenomenon where vaccines make the disease far worse by priming the immune system for a potentially deadly overreaction.</strong></p>
<p>ADE is well known to occur with coronavirus vaccines that have been tested in animal experiments. The big question has been whether it will emerge in the billions of people who have now been vaccinated around the world.</p>
<p><a href="https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations">According to OurWorldInData.org</a>, 31.7% of the world population has been vaccinated with one or more covid vaccines as of the 21st August 2021. That’s around 2.4 billion people, and every single one of them has taken an unproven, experimental, potentially deadly medical treatment in possibly the largest experiment ever conducted on humanity.</p>
<p>But how many of these people will die from vaccine adverse events, including ADE?</p>
<p>Well, a new science paper published in the <em>Journal of Infection</em> appears to provide solid evidence that the Covid-19 injections being administered around the world will, without question, cause ADE effects in people when they are exposed to the Delta variant or potentially other coronavirus strains.</p>

<p>The study is entitled, <a href="https://www.journalofinfection.com/article/S0163-4453(21)00392-3/fulltext">Infection-enhancing anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies recognize both the original Wuhan/D614G strain and Delta variants. A potential risk for mass vaccination</a> and explains that while the current injections may provide some level of immunity against the alleged original covid virus, they present an unfortunate side effect – The <em>acceleration</em> of “infection-enhancing antibodies” which overreact to Delta variant infections.</p>
<p>What the paper is describing is classic antibody-dependent enhancement, meaning a hyperinflammatory reaction can kill the person as their “primed” immune system overreacts to new infections.</p>

<p>The study concludes, “ADE of delta variants is a potential risk for current vaccines,” and it goes on to explain the mechanism by which this ADE is emerging –</p>
<p><em>Using molecular modeling approaches, we show that enhancing antibodies have a higher affinity for Delta variants than for Wuhan/D614G NTDs. We show that enhancing antibodies reinforce the binding of the spike trimer to the host cell membrane by clamping the NTD to lipid raft microdomains… facilitating antibodies display a strikingly increased affinity. Thus, ADE may be a concern for people receiving vaccines based on the original Wuhan strain spike sequence (either mRNA or viral vectors).</em></p>

<p>The paper goes on to suggest that the original vaccines should be scrapped, and replaced with new, “second generation” vaccines that are engineered to attack the antigen targets of the Delta variant, but this would still be foolish because if the Covid-19 virus really exists then the virus will always mutate to a new form and evade the current injections on offer, no matter how many injections are administered to the world’s population.</p>
<p>Only natural immunity could ever put an end to this alleged pandemic because the current injections on offer <a href="https://dailyexpose.co.uk/2021/08/03/sage-document-admits-the-c19-vaccines-will-lead-to-a-variant-that-kills-35-of-people-because-the-vaccines-do-not-prevent-infection-or-transmission/">do not prevent infection</a> and do not prevent transmission.</p>
<p>With billions of people already injected, the findings of this scientific study suggest that it perfectly plausible that billions of people could die due to antibody-dependent enhancement or other devastating effects caused by the Covid-19 vaccines such as spike protein vascular damage, and <a href="https://dailyexpose.co.uk/2021/08/20/latest-public-health-england-report-reveals-the-covid-jabs-dont-work-as-the-fully-vaccinated-account-for-21-percent-of-covid-infections-but-58-percent-of-all-deaths/"><span>evidence from Public Health England</span></a> shows that it is already beginning to happen in the United Kingdom.</p>

<p>According to <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1012401/Technical_Briefing_21.pdf">the report</a> since the 1st February 2021 and the 15th August 2021 there have been 390 deaths among the unvaccinated population, an increase of 137 on the last count made in the previous report where the confirmed figure was 253 up to the 2nd August 2021. This equates to 0.2% of all confirmed infections among the unvaccinated population, in line with the average death rate seen since the alleged Covid-19 pandemic began.</p>
<p>However, up to the 15th August 2021 the fully vaccinated population has suffered a total of 679 deaths. This in an increase of 277 on the previous report where the confirmed figure was 402. It also equates to 0.9% of all confirmed infections among the fully vaccinated population. This suggests the Covid-19 vaccine actually increases the risk of death by at least 338% rather than reducing the risk of death by 95%.</p>
<p>This is what we’re seeing in the middle of summer, but winter is only around the corner and the evidence to suggest it’s going to be a rough one is overwhelming.</p>

<p><strong>An investigation has revealed that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation are the primary funders of the UK’s Medicine & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, and that the Foundation also owns major shares in both Pfizer and BioNTech.</strong></p>
<p>The Medicine & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) extended the emergency authorisation of the Pfizer / BioNTech mRNA jab in the UK to allow it to be given to children between the ages of 12 – 15 on the 4<sup>th</sup> June 2021.</p>
<p>At the time, the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/the-mhra-concludes-positive-safety-profile-for-pfizerbiontech-vaccine-in-12-to-15-year-olds" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chief Executive of the MHRA, Dr June Raine said</a> the MHRA had “carefully reviewed clinical trial data in children aged 12 to 15 years and have concluded that the Pfizer vaccine is safe and effective in this age group and that the benefits outweigh any risk”.</p>
<p>We are left wondering if Dr June Raine and the MHRA have even read the results of the extremely short and small study. If they have then they would have seen that <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://dailyexpose.co.uk/2021/05/30/shocking-86-of-children-suffered-an-adverse-reaction-to-the-pfizer-covid-vaccine-in-clinical-trial/" target="_blank">86% of children in the study suffered an adverse reaction</a> ranging from mild to extremely serious.</p>
<p>Just 1,127 children took part of the trial, however only 1,097 children completed the trial, with 30 of them not participating after being given the first dose of the Pfizer jab. The results do not state why the 30 children did not go on to complete the trial.</p>
<p>The information is publicly available and contained within an FDA fact sheet which can be viewed <a href="https://www.fda.gov/media/144413/download" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a> (<em>see page 25, table 5 on-wards</em>).</p>
<p>There was never any doubt that the MHRA would give emergency authorisation for the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine to be used in children when you consider that a certain Mr Bill Gates owns shares in both Pfizer and BioNTech and <a href="https://www.devex.com/organizations/medicines-and-healthcare-products-regulatory-agency-mhra-101415" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">is the primary funder of the MHRA</a>.</p>

<p>The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation <a href="https://www.fool.com/investing/2020/09/24/4-coronavirus-vaccine-stocks-the-bill-melinda-gate/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">bought shares in Pfizer</a> back in 2002, and back in September 2020 Bill Gates ensured the value of his shares went up by announcing to the mainstream media in a CNBC interview that he viewed the Pfizer jab as the leader in the Covid-19 vaccine race.</p>
<p>“The only vaccine that, if everything went perfectly, might seek the emergency use license by the end of October, would be Pfizer.”</p>
<p>The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation also “coincidentally” bought <a href="https://www.fool.com/investing/2020/09/24/4-coronavirus-vaccine-stocks-the-bill-melinda-gate/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">$55 million worth of shares in BioNTech</a> in September 2019, just before the alleged Covid-19 pandemic struck.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/mhra-awarded-over-980000-for-collaboration-with-the-bill-and-melinda-gates-foundation-and-the-world-health-organisation" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">MHRA received a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation</a> in 2017 to the tune of £980,000 for a “collaboration” with the foundation. However, a Freedom of Information request which the MHRA responded to in May 2021 revealed that the current level of grant funding received from the Gates Foundation amounts to $3 million and covers “a number of projects”.</p>
<p>Can we really trust the MHRA to remain impartial when its primary funder is the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who also own shares in Pfizer and BioNTech? We don’t think so.</p>

100,000 Afghan Migrants Could Be Heading To The United States

<p>Chris George, the executive director of IRIS, a refugee assistance nonprofit in New Haven, Connecticut, recently told <em><a href="https://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/national-politics/where-will-afghan-refugees-go-and-how-many-will-come-to-the-us">the Denver Channel</a> </em>that as many as 100,000 Afghan refugees could enter the United States over the next several months. Afghan refugees coming into the US is sparking a Right-wing reaction reminiscent to the type of rhetoric that we were hearing in 2014 to 2017 when Europe was going through its refugee crisis and its political aftermath. Stephen Miller, the former advisor to Trump and a reader of the American eugenist organization, American Renaissance, has come out with his typical political agitation, stating: “It is becoming increasingly clear that Biden & his radical deputies will use their catastrophic debacle in Afghanistan as a pretext for doing to America what Angela Merkel did to Germany & Europe,” adding that Biden wants to bring in refugees in the “many hundreds of thousands.”</p>
<p>As a new refugee crisis is erupting, so the anti-refugee sentiment (and climate) is reviving back to the same sort of energy that we began to see in 2015. The debate concerning Afghanistan is now shifting  towards anti-immigration and linguistic nationalism. For example, when Congress was trying to pass a Capitol security funding bill that would reserve $1.1 billion for Afghan refugee assistance and would create 8,000 new Afghan Special Immigrant Visas (which puts special attention on Afghans who assisted the US military against the Taliban and would thus be huge targets for the terrorists), Senator Rand Paul went against the bill and <a href="https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2021/08/afghanistan-refugees-tucker-carlson-stephen-miller-republicans.html">stated</a>:</p>

<p data-uri="slate.com/_components/slate-paragraph/instances/cksgk1az400193h6cbzv7fua7@published" data-word-count="88">The bill was passed unanimously, but of course not without resistance. Just a few days ago Tucker Carlson told his audience on Fox News that they should expect Afghan refugees being settled in their neighborhoods: “If history is any guide—and it’s always a guide —we will see many refugees from Afghanistan resettle in our country in the coming months, probably in your neighborhood”. As if the Afghan refugees are going to be parked right into suburbia. When refugees first get housing in the US, its usually a rental apartment. But, refugees are not just going to be sitting around doing nothing and taking welfare. The great majority of refugees end up buying their own homes; they have high rates of labor participation and tax revenue coming from refugees can far exceed the government costs for their resettlement. As we read <a href="https://housingmatters.urban.org/articles/secure-housing-refugees-can-help-them-and-us-communities-prosper">Housing Matters</a>:</p>

<p data-uri="slate.com/_components/slate-paragraph/instances/cksgk1az400193h6cbzv7fua7@published" data-word-count="88">Upon arrival, refugees work with a resettlement agency to secure housing, typically a market-rate apartment for rent. They are colocated with access to public transit, employment opportunities, and educational institutions. From there, refugees can pursue various housing trajectories. Many stay in the <a href="http://www.chicagotribune.com/ct-refugee-tenants-20151120-story.html" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">private rental market.</a> Others become <a href="https://research.newamericaneconomy.org/report/from-struggle-to-resilience-the-economic-impact-of-refugees-in-america/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">homeowners</a>; 57 percent of refugees in the US own their own home, with one in seven households owning their home outright. Some participate in affordable housing programs. According to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) <a href="https://www.acf.hhs.gov/orr/resource/office-of-refugee-resettlement-annual-report-to-congress-2016" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Annual Survey of Refugees 2016</a>, 16 percent of respondents were receiving housing assistance four to six years after arrival.</p>

<p data-uri="slate.com/_components/slate-paragraph/instances/cksgk1az400193h6cbzv7fua7@published" data-word-count="88">Although the main goals of refugee resettlement are humanitarian, <a href="https://www.urban.org/research/publication/bringing-evidence-refugee-integration-debate" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">evidence shows</a> that refugee integration can lead to high rates of labor participation (sometimes exceeding native-born rates), increases in income the longer refugees remain in the US, and tax contributions that outweigh resettlement costs. Sometimes, refugees can be <a href="https://www.marketplace.org/2015/04/01/economy/six-routes/dayton-bucks-population-decline" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">catalysts</a> for neighborhood revitalization and economic growth as they seek low-cost areas to buy a home and reinvest in the community. Refugees strengthen the fabric of US communities.</p>

<p data-uri="slate.com/_components/slate-paragraph/instances/cksgk1az400193h6cbzv7fua7@published" data-word-count="88">Regardless of these facts, people like Tucker will continue to stoke up the fear and ignite more Right-wing hysteria. Refugees from Afghanistan also want to get into Europe, and this is only going to spark more ultra-nationalism within the EU. In fact, the atmosphere for such demographic tensions is so real and present that politicians that would be considered moderate are entertaining the sentiment. As we read in the Financial Times:</p>

That fear prompted politicians from Stockholm to Athens this week to insist there could be “no repeat of 2015”. Emmanuel Macron, who is set to run for a second term as French president next year, was among them. “We must anticipate and protect ourselves against significant irregular flows of migration that would endanger those who use them and fuel trafficking of all kinds,” he told the nation in a TV address.</p>

<p>Australian police patrolled the streets and blocked transport into the centre of Sydney on Saturday to prevent a planned anti-lockdown protest as the country reported a record high daily number of new COVID-19 infections.</p>
<p>Officials reported a total of 886 cases in New South Wales and Victoria states, with the vast bulk in Sydney, which is the epicentre of the Delta variant-fuelled outbreak.</p>
<p>With other states and territories still to report daily numbers, new infections have already exceeded the previous single-day high for the pandemic of 754 cases on Thursday.</p>
<p>"We are in a very serious situation here in New South Wales," state Health Minister Brad Hazzard said. "There is no time now to be selfish, it's time to think of the broader community and your families."</p>
<p>Sydney, a city of more than 5 million people, has been in a strict lockdown for weeks now, failing so far to contain an outbreak that has spread across internal borders and as far as neighbouring New Zealand.</p>
<p>New South Wales officials reported three deaths and 516 people in hospital on Saturday. Of the 85 people in intensive care, 76 were unvaccinated, officials said.</p>
<p>At least 96 people were active in community during their infectious period, and there were a number of breaches of public health orders, all slowing the efforts to curtail the outbreak.</p>
<p>More than 1,500 police officers were deployed on Sydney's streets on Saturday, trains were ordered to bypass major city stations and rideshares were banned to the city centre as police tried to prevent an unauthorised anti-lockdown protest.</p>
<p>Australian media reported that a similar protest was planned in Melbourne, with Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews on Saturday expanding a lockdown in that city to entire state as he reported 61 new locally acquired cases.</p>
<p>At least 39 of the new Victoria cases were active in community while infectious, raising concerns over officials' ability to gain control over the outbreak. Eighteen people were in hospital, eight in intensive care and six on ventilators.</p>
<p>Australia's COVID-19 numbers are still relatively low compared to other developed countries, with just over 43,000 cases and 978 deaths, but the latest outbreak has seen a significant resurgence in cases.</p>

<p>Chaos around the Kabul airport was so bad this week that the U.S. military was forced to use three helicopters to transport 169 Americans into the complex from a building just 200 meters (656 feet) away, the Pentagon said on Friday.</p>
<p>As Western nations struggled to ramp up the pace of evacuations from Afghanistan amid the chaos and reports of Taliban violence, U.S. President Joe Biden confronted criticism about his administration's planning for the withdrawal of U.S. troops and the Islamic militants' swift takeover of the country.</p>
<p>"I have seen no question of our credibility from our allies," Biden told reporters after making a speech from the White House. "... As a matter of fact, the exact opposite I've got ... we're acting with dispatch, we're acting, committing to what we said we would do."</p>
<p>Thousands of desperate Afghans clutching papers, children and some belongings thronged Kabul airport where gun-toting Taliban members urged those without travel documents to go home. In and around the airport at least 12 people have been killed since Sunday, NATO and Taliban officials said.</p>
<p>U.S. evacuation flights from Kabul's airport stopped for more than six hours on Friday while U.S. authorities looked for countries willing to accept people fleeing Afghanistan. They did resume later in the day.</p>
<p>In his remarks, Biden referred to the 169 Americans transported by the military. Department of Defense spokesman John Kirby later said the decision was made to use the helicopters on Thursday because the group was unable to get to the gate from a nearby hotel to the airport.</p>
<p>"The plan was simply (for them) to walk through the gate, but there was a large crowd established outside the Abbey gate, a crowd that not everybody had confidence in, in terms of their ability to walk through and so local commanders on the scene took the initiative and flew these helicopters out there to pick them up," Kirby said.</p>
<p>Biden insisted every American who wanted to would be evacuated, and that about 18,000 people had been airlifted out since July.</p>
<p>NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg described the situation outside Kabul airport as "very dire and difficult," as several member countries pressed for evacuations to continue beyond an Aug. 31 U.S. deadline.</p>
<p>Biden has not backed off that deadline, despite calls - internationally and at home from his fellow Democrats as well as opposition Republicans - to keep troops in Afghanistan as long as necessary to bring home every American.</p>
<p>Biden said he could not predict what the final outcome would be in Afghanistan, where the United States and allies have waged a 20-year war. But he promised to work with other countries to set "harsh conditions" for any cooperation or recognition of the Taliban, based on their human rights record.</p>
<p><strong>PROTESTS, AND VIOLENCE</strong></p>
<p>"They're looking to gain some legitimacy, they're going to have to figure out how they're going to retain that country," he said. "And there's going to be some harsh conditions, strong conditions we're going to apply that will depend on ... how well they treat women and girls, how they treat their citizens."</p>

<p>Individual Afghans and international aid and advocacy groups have reported harsh retaliation against protests, and roundups of those who formerly held government positions, criticized the Taliban or worked with Americans.</p>
<p>Former officials told harrowing tales of hiding from the Taliban as armed gunmen went from door to door. One family of 16 described running to the bathroom, lights off and children's mouths covered, in fear for their lives.</p>
<p>"Those who may be in danger have no clear way out," U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees spokesperson Shabia Mantoo said, urging neighboring countries to keep borders open.</p>
<p>Biden again insisted that the U.S.-funded and -armed Afghan military had been expected to put up more of a fight.</p>
<p>"The overwhelming consensus was that ... the Afghan forces, they were not going to leave. They were not going to just abandon and they would put down their arms and take off," Biden said, arguing that the United States has no more interest in the country with al Qaeda defeated.</p>
<p>The Taliban called for unity, asking imams at Friday prayers to persuade people not to leave.</p>
<p>A witness said several people were killed in the eastern city of Asadabad on Thursday when the Taliban fired on a protest. There were similar shows of defiance in two other eastern cities - Jalalabad and Khost - coinciding with celebrations of Afghanistan's 1919 independence from British control.</p>
<p>"The Taliban are facing the new reality of Afghanistan that Afghans are not the same Afghans of 20 years ago," Barakat Rahmati, Afghanistan's deputy ambassador to Qatar, told Reuters.</p>
<p>"Afghans, inclusive of men and women, held protests in Kabul despite a Taliban gun being pointed to them. They are holding protests against injustice. They are defending their identity and their flag."</p>
<p>The U.S. State Department announced that nearly a dozen countries, from Europe to the Middle East, would allow flights with people evacuated from Kabul to land. Canada also said it would consider taking in additional refugees on behalf of the United States or other allies.</p>
