Taya Kyle, the wife of slain “American Sniper” hero Chris Kyle, was already a favorite among conservatives. However, when the widow recently confronted President Barack Obama over his latest gun control regulations, she became an even bigger star among those with a healthy respect for the Second Amendment.
The confrontation came at Obama’s gun violence “town hall meeting” (three words which, when strung together, are now completely bereft of meaning) stunt Thursday night on CNN.
Kyle, whose husband was killed by gun violence, lashed out at the president over his new regulations’ lack of efficacy and his inability to acknowledge the downward trend of gun violence, even as gun ownership skyrockets.
“I think that your message of hope is something I agree with. I think it’s great. And I think that by creating new laws you do give people hope,” Taya Kyle said to the president. “The thing is that the laws we create don’t stop these horrific things from happening, right? And that’s a very tough pill to swallow.”
Kyle then pointed out that none of the recent shootings Obama’s new unilateral regulations likely wouldn’t have stopped any of the crimes they were enacted in response to.
“I don’t know that any of them would have been stopped by a background check,” Kyle said.
“So I think part it we have to recognize is we cannot outlaw murder,” she said. “Because the people who are murdering are breaking the law, but they also don’t have the moral code that we have. So they can do the same amount of damage with a pipe bomb. The problem is that they want to murder.”
Kyle then pointed out that gun violence and gun ownership are inversely correlated: “We are at the lowest murder rate in our country. All time of low of murders. All time high for gun ownership.
Obama, who thanked Kyle for her husband’s service, seemed to struggle with the line of questioning, as liberals often do when confronted with things like evidence and truth.
