Joe Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki called the Florida judge’s ruling striking down the mask mandate for public transportation on Monday a “disappointing decision.”

Yes, really.

Psaki made the remarks during a White House press briefing shortly after a Florida federal judge struck down Biden’s nationwide mask mandate for airports, airplanes and other public transportation.

“This is obviously a disappointing decision. The CDC continues recommending wearing a mask in public transit,” Psaki said, citing the CDC’s decision to extend its mandate into May 3 prior to the judge’s ruling.

“So, we would say to anyone sitting out there – we recommend you wear masks on the airplane and…as soon as we can provide an update from here, hopefully soon, we’ll provide that to all of you,” she added.

Fox News reporter Peter Doocy then asked: “Why is it that we can sit here in the White House briefing room with no masks but people can’t sit in an airplane cabin with no masks?”

Psaki replied dismissively: “I’m not a doctor.”

Yikes.

The Association of Flight Attendants, which represents nearly 50,000 flight attendants at 17 airlines, said in a statement that it’s unclear what the judge’s decision means for travelers over the next “24-48 hours” and urged “calm and consistency” in airports and on planes.

“In aviation operations, it is impossible to simply flip a switch from one minute to the next. It takes a minimum of 24-48 hours to implement new procedures and communicate this throughout the entire network,” AFA President Sara Nelson said.

“Policies and procedures must be updated and thoroughly communicated to hundreds of thousands of employees, along with millions of travelers. Announcements and signage, electronic and physical must be updated.”

Airline CEOs in March urged the Biden administration to lift the public transportation mask mandate, saying “it makes no sense” at this point given the low COVID deaths and decreasing cases.

“Now is the time for the Administration to sunset federal transportation travel restrictions – including the international pre-departure testing requirement and the federal mask mandate – that are no longer aligned with the realities of the current epidemiological environment,” the corporate execs wrote in the letter.

As of this writing, Alaska Airlines has announced they will no longer require masks on its flights.

The public realities on the ground don’t appear to matter to the Biden administration.

What matters is the ability to control the COVID narrative, which will be all but collapsed when citizens can again begin traveling mask-free.
