The official government Twitter account belonging to the Ukraine Ministry of Defense shared footage from a video game claiming it showed Ukrainian defenses shooting down Russian helicopters.

The latest footage, showing a clip from the 2015 ArmA III tactical shooter video game, briefly appeared on the Ministry’s Twitter account Thursday, prompting many to question why the Ukraine government would promote such blatant propaganda if it’s supposedly winning the war against Russia.

A caption accompanying the post written by the Ukraine government claimed the footage showed a Ukraine squadron “skillfully eliminated four K-52 helicopters of the Russian Federation.”

“We are proud of Ukrainian soldiers,” the Ministry added.

The Defense Ministry’s tweet was quickly debunked as various Twitter users replied that the footage was derived from the realistic video game.

After deleting the tweet from their account, the Ukraine government did not offer an explanation as to why it disseminated fake footage of the supposed military victory.

Amazingly, footage from the same video game, ArmA III, circulated on social media last month at the start of the conflict purported to show: “Ukraine fires missiles to intercept Russian aircraft.”

Before that, Russian state news agency Pervi Kanal blamed “human error” for airing footage of the game during coverage of the 2018 Syrian War.
