Russia has reportedly deployed its hypersonic missile “Kinzhal” amid its military operation against Ukraine, marking the first time such technology has been used in the battlefield and a clear warning signal against NATO.

From The Sun:
Russia’s defense ministry said: “The Kinzhal aviation missile system with hypersonic aeroballistic missiles destroyed a large underground warehouse containing missiles and aviation ammunition in the village of Deliatyn in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.”
Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said the “unstoppable” weapon was deployed on Friday.
It is the first known time the new Kinzhal has been used in the conflict but it was earlier “tested” in Syria in war conditions.
…
President Putin earlier branded the missile “an ideal weapon” that flies at 10 times the speed of sound and cannot be brought down by conventional air-defence systems.

03/19/2022:
Russia’s use of its “dagger” hypersonic missile has little practical effect in the battlefield in Ukraine, so its intended use was more likely a warning to NATO countries not to escalate the conflict.
Russia’s use of the Kinzhal in Ukraine is similar to Trump’s use of the MOAB (Mother of All Bombs) in Afghanistan in 2017.
In both instances, the point of the weapons deployment was not the immediate combat effect.
The goal is to menace other adversaries by demoing a system. pic.twitter.com/5Jhqkwkz7w

The Pentagon has rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s plea for a no-fly zone over his country, saying “there’s no such thing as a no-fly zone lite.”
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin provided specifics:
“From a US perspective, our President, President Biden, has been clear that we would not have US forces fighting in Ukraine. Having said that, we’ll do everything within our power to support Ukraine in their efforts to defend their territory,” said Austin Thursday at a joint press conference at the Slovak Ministry of Defence in Bratislava. “We’ve also stated enforcing a no-fly zone actually means that you’re in combat, you’re in a fight with Russia, and that’s one of the things that we have said, that our President said we weren’t going to do, get in a fight with Russia.”
“So what this really means is that in order to control the skies, you have to shut down the air defenses there on the ground. And some of those air defense systems are in Russia and so, again, there’s no easy or simple way to do this. There’s no such thing as a no-fly zone lite. A no-fly zone means you’re in a conflict with Russia. So from a US perspective, we’re, again, our position remains that we’re not going to do that.”
