White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Friday struggled to explain why Joe Biden’s approval rating continues to spiral downwards.
Asked by a reporter, “What do you make of these really terrible polls?” Psaki deflected to the coronavirus pandemic and the high number of unvaccinated people as reasons Biden’s so unpopular.
“I would say that this is a really tough time in our country,” a flustered Psaki responded.
“We’re still battling Covid, and a lot of people thought we’d be through it, including us. And because of the rise of the Delta variant, because of the fact that even though it was a vaccine that was approved under a Republican administration, even though we now have full FDA approval and even though it’s widely available across the country…we still have a quarter of the country…less than that… 20% of the country who’ve decided not to get vaccinated. No question that’s having an impact.”
“Biden’s approval rating has dropped to 38%, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday,” reports USA Today. “That’s down from 42% three weeks ago and from a high of 50% in mid-February.”
Despite Psaki’s superficial explanation, the polls likely reflect Americans’ dissatisfaction with an increasingly high number of Biden administration failures, including the border crisis, the bungled Afghanistan withdrawal, the stagnant economy and inflation, high gas prices, not to mention recent Covid-19 vaccine mandates which have put thousands out of work.
