In the United States, we have been very blessed to be able to agree to disagree civilly for as long a time as we have, especially in matters of religion. That will change in the future as Islam gains more public prominence.
This incident reminds me of the words of St. Juan de Ribera, Archbishop of Valencia, missionary to Muslims, and chief mind behind the expulsion of the Moriscos in 1609. In his writing about Islam he said (my translation):
“As we have seen, Muhammed had neither supernatural miracles nor natural motives of reason to persuade those of his sect. As he lacked in everything, he took to bestial and barbaric means, which is the force of arms. Thus he introduced and promulgated his message with robberies, murders, and bloodshedding, destroying those who did not want to receive it, and with the same means his ministers conserve this today, until God placates his anger and destroys this pestilence from the earth.
The river in which the Muslim dumped Pastor Martin’s body
This is a story about a mosque and a Pentecostal church next to each other in Uganda. Members of the mosque were angry that (a) there was a church next to them, and (b) the church was making converts from the mosque. So, following the example of Muhammad, Islam’s perfect model for piety and rightly-guided actions, the Muslims hacked the pastor to death and put the entire congregation in fear. This happened at the same time, as the article notes, a series of other attacks against Christians by Muslims were taking place in the surrounding region. Via Christian News:
“Why are you encroaching on the church’s land and removing the boundary marks?” Pastor Martin asked. A church member said the imam answered, “We have told you many times that we do not want the church to be located near our mosque. Your church has been taking our members to your church.”
A Muslim named Abdulhakha Mugen then drew his sword and struck the pastor’s neck, church members said. Pastor Martin fell down bleeding, and after more sword blows and decapitation, he died. He was 32.
“When I saw such a brutal killing of my pastor, fear gripped me and, fearing for my life, I went to report the incident to Nabitende area police,” a church elder said.
Muslims threw Pastor Martin’s body into a nearby river at 10 a.m., sources said. He is survived by a widow and two children.
“When I arrived at the scene, the pastor’s body had just been thrown into the river, and many people came to witness the sad incident,” the church leader said. “Tension remains high in the area.”
