An abandoned dog saved a student from a nasty experience on holiday...so she repaid the favor by rescuing her right back
A British woman who was assaulted on a beach in Greece was saved by an unlikely hero: a small black dog she named Pepper.
Georgia Bradley, 25, was on holiday on the Greek island of Crete when she was approached by two men on a remote beach. They asked her to go for a drink with them, and when she refused, things got heated. One of the men grabbed her arm aggressively.
“I was terrified,” said Georgia, whose boyfriend had gone to a cafe alone. Suddenly, a small black dog appeared at her side, and she barked so much that the men were scared off.
Georgia, 25, recognized the dog; she had seen Pepper several times wandering around the streets, “trying to get the attention of tourists”.
“Pepper shot out of nowhere, jumped up at me and began barking and licking my hand, and that made the men think twice,” Georgia explained. “She saved me. She must have noticed something was wrong. When I went back to the apartment she followed me and finally let us stroke her. We had an instant bond.”
Georgia spent the rest of her holiday with Pepper, and when she flew back to the UK she couldn’t get the dog out of her mind.
“When we left to go to the airport, we looked back and Pepper was running after the car. It was heartbreaking.”
Georgia, a university student, decided to return to Greece and find her little friend. After a five-week search and two more visits to the island, she managed to find Pepper on the same beach they had first met.
“It was a real risk because we may never have found her again,” Georgia admitted. “But when we saw Pepper on the beach, it was the best feeling ever.”
She took her to a local vet and an animal shelter, but nobody could help. The only option was to adopt Pepper herself.
It cost Georgia a massive £6000 ($9500) to get Pepper microchipped, vaccinated and flown to her new home in Cornwall, England. But love knows no boundaries, and that’s not all: Pepper had another surprise in store when she gave birth to six beautiful puppies shortly after arriving in the UK.
“It has been such a crazy journey,” Georgia said. “But I am over the moon. Pepper has settled in brilliantly.”
