Joe Biden attempted to convince fellow Democrats his administration’s policies aren’t responsible for soaring inflation hitting the pocketbooks of everyday Americans.

Speaking at a House Democrats retreat in Philadelphia Friday, Biden blamed everything from the Covid pandemic to Russia for the spike in consumer prices.

Firstly, Biden claimed Democrats’ $2.2 trillion Covid relief bill “didn’t cause inflation.”

Next, Biden attempted to blame high prices on the Covid pandemic which brought US production in many industries to a halt and caused a supply chain issue. However, the timeline doesn’t line up as the pandemic began under the Trump administration.

He then shifted to blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin’s incursion into Ukraine for the price hikes, and dismissed Republican assertions that his cancellation of the Keystone XL oil pipeline any way contributed to higher prices.

However, many have pointed out Russia’s special operation in Ukraine has only been happening for a little over two weeks, while gas prices have been steadily increasing since Biden’s inauguration.

“Make no mistake, inflation’s largely the fault of Putin,” Biden claimed.

He then went on to cite Washington Post and New York Times fact checks as evidence he’s in no way responsible for the rise in fuel prices.

At the same time he discussed out of control inflation, Biden plugged Democrats’ Innovation bill, which appropriates over $200 billion in taxpayer funding over the next five years to technology research.

Elsewhere during his speech, he suggested the American people are too dumb to understand the various economic successes his administration has had, telling Dems, “Never forget what we’ve accomplished together so far. By the way, the American people just trying to stay above water don’t understand this. You tell them what the American Recovery Act was and they look at you like, ‘What are you talking about?’”

Despite his efforts to gaslight the public into believing Russia caused inflation and not his bad policies, everyone with a memory – including CNN commentators – are rightfully dismissing Biden’s claims that the Ukraine crisis is responsible.

“It’s gonna mean higher prices, particularly for the consumers in those markets, right?” CNN economics commentator Catherine Rampell said Thursday. “Demand is really high right now. Supply has not been keeping up, even before the conflict in Ukraine, the Russian invasion. If we are now constraining supply even more, that’s gonna drive prices up.”
