Multimillionaire Late Show host Stephen Colbert was slammed as out of touch after he told Americans it’s okay to pay more for gas to own the Russians.
Colbert made the remarks during his broadcast Monday, claiming Biden’s sanctions blocking oil imports from Russia were a good thing for Americans because it helps us keep a clean conscience.
.@StephenAtHome: "Today, the average gas price in America hit an all-time record high of over $4/gallon. OK, that stings, but a clean conscience is worth a buck or two. It’s important. I’m willing to pay $4/gallon. Hell, I’ll pay $15 a gallon b/c I drive a Tesla" pic.twitter.com/my8Ukya5rQ

“Take that Putin! We’re not gonna buy our gas from a war criminal, we’re gonna buy it from the good guys – Saudi Arabia!” Colbert said, sounding unsure whether dealing with the Middle Eastern country is a positive development.
“But it’s gonna cost – since the invasion oil prices have skyrocketed,” Colbert acknowledged, dismissing the steady increase in oil prices since Biden took office.
“Today the average gas price in America hit an all time record high of over $4 per gallon. That stings, but a clean conscience is worth a buck or two,” said the comedian who reportedly makes a $15 million a year salary, as his audience sycophantically cheered and applauded.
“I’m willing to pay $4 a gallon,” declared Colbert, whose net worth is over $75 million.
“Hell, I’ll pay $15 a gallon — because I drive a Tesla,” the comedian added, evidently oblivious that most Americans can’t afford a $70,000 fuel-efficient electric vehicle.
The self-absorbed, elitist remarks were panned across social media.

*I don't mind paying $15 a gallon, cause I drive a Tesla* is a joke, until you realize that it really defines the disconnect between the mentality of celebrities and the people who have to drive to work everyday in a car that costs less than $50k.

Fast-forward to Tuesday, mere hours after Colbert’s broadcast, and Americans felt it at the gas pump as fuel prices smashed record highs with a whopping $4.17 national average, as Joe Biden and his UK counterpart announced a ban on Russian oil and gas imports, while Russia reciprocated with bans of their.
Colbert’s lecture on gas prices comes as Star Trek actor George Takei was recently blasted as a “rich A-hole” for telling Americans to “endure higher prices for food and gas” in order to “put the screws to Putin.”
