British tourists, who survived the massacre at Sousse in Tunisia on June 27, have come out in defence of the Tunisians on the beach, and have revealed how local heroes formed a human shield to protect tourists from gunman Seifeddine Rezgui, who, after massacring 38 European tourists at the Riu Imperial Marhaba Hotel, headed towards the neighbouring Palm Marina hotel to claim more victims.

John told MirrorOnline, “It’s amazing what they did. The staff were in a line and they were shouting at him, saying ‘we won’t let you through’. They shouted: ‘You’ll have to go through us’. That’s why he’s got his back turned to them.”
John’s wife told The Independent the hotel staff faced Rezgui and told him they were Muslims. “They’d actually made a human barricade – ‘you’re not going to get past us, you’ll have to kill us’. Everyone seems to think ‘it’s the Muslims, it’s the Muslims’, but it is not, it is not their way. There are no words to express how grateful we are to them.”
