A nationalist Hungarian television crew was recently caught attacking child refugees, and tripping a man who was running with a child, causing him to fall down on top of the child.
According to the Guardian, Petra László of N1TV was filming a group of refugees running away from police officers, when she stuck out her leg to trip a man who carrying a child in his arms. Stephan Richter, a reporter for the German television channel RTL was on the scene and was able to film the incident.
After the incident occurred, it was discovered that the Hungarian news website Index had footage of László kicking a young girl and boy on a separate occasion.
N1TV, the company that employs László said that she has been fired, saying that her behavior was “unacceptable.”
Editor in chief of N1TV Szabolcs Kisberk said in a statement that “The camerawoman’s employment has today been terminated with immediate effect, the case is now closed for us.”
As we have been reporting in recent weeks, the refugee situation in Europe has been met with both uplifting and disappointing reactions. Germany has been extremely open and generous to the refugees, while other places are more resistant. We reported earlier this week that Naguib Sawiris, an Egyptian billionaire and philanthropist, has decided to “be the change” and help remedy the Syrian refugee crisis by purchasing an island in the Mediterranean to provide a new home to those displaced by the civil war.
