from fully vaccinated.</p> <p>On November 7th: 12.9% of over 12s in England were unvaccinated and 79.5% were double vaccinated (38,436,862) – <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/vaccinations" target="_blank">https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/vaccinations</a>.</p> <p>Whereas 9.6% of over 12s in Scotland were unvaccinated and Statistical Report November 24th</a></span>.</p> <p>English deaths are defined as being within 28 days of a positive Covid test and taken from table 10 of the <span><a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1036047/Vaccine_surveillance_report_-_week_47.pdf">UKHSA Vaccine Surveillance Report week The fully vaccinated case rates of 1155.2 for England and 1150.1 for Scotland are almost identical.</p> <p>2. The unvaccinated case rate is 4.5x the fully vaccinated case rate in England and 5.4x the fully vaccinated case rate in Scotland. This may be because more unvaccinated people have natural immunity in England at present.</p> <p>3. The Death Rate Ratio unvaxxed to doubly vaxxed is 1.45 in England and 1.04 in Scotland. This will be due to England using the daft metric of anyone who dies from anything within 28 days of a covid test, whilst Scotland uses the more medically sound definition of anyone who dies with covid-19 on the death certificate as either the underlying cause or a contributing cause of death.</p> <p>So PHE (now the UKHSA) have been effectively exaggerating the life saving performance of the vaccines by using a daft definition of Covid death. The more accurate position, taken by Scotland, is that being unvaccinated gives one presently a 4% greater chance of dying from Covid than being vaccinated in raw data terms rather than a 45% greater chance (having removed the under 12s from both groups).</p> <p>However there will still be some degree of age confounding in these raw data because the doubly vaccinated group will be older on average than the unvaccinated group because only 32% of 12-15 year olds were double jabbed and only 57% of 16-17 year olds were double jabbed on November7.</p> <p>So that removes a further 2.35m from serious contention for death in the unvaxxed out of 6,236,935 in England, which is 38% of them. So we can make the data pretty age independent by regarding the unvaxxed group as being perhaps 45% smaller than it actually is (to account for the lower vaccination percentages in all the younger age groups – bearing in mind that delta is not the same as alpha and beta. It is less lethal to older people and more lethal to younger people).</p> <p>The true age independent figure for the whole unvaccinated group would then be 1/0.55 = 1.82 or 82% higher than 1.04. So it would be 1.04/0.55 = 1.89. So the unvaxxed presently have an 89% increased chance of death. But that is only Covid death. It is not all cause mortality.</p> <p>The figure ignores deaths due to vaccine side effects, which Pfizer, Moderna the CDC, the FDA, the UKHSA and PHS all studiously ignore. These can easily overcome that 89% in the short term and can swamp it in the medium term, with vaccine mediated cardiovascular, immune system and nervous system degradation. Indeed UK ICUs have recently reported an increase in immune compromised patients – <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-10224691/Has-jab-farce-landed-hundreds-intensive-care.html" target="_blank">https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-10224691/Has-jab-farce-landed-hundreds-intensive-care.html</a></p> <p>4. The Death rates per 1,000 cases are the truly astounding result from this analysis. The English figure is fairly meaningless due to the daft definition of a Covid death. But the Scottish figure is far more reality based and shows that doubly vaccinated people are 520% more likely to die if they get Covid-19 than unvaxxed people. Admittedly that figure is again confounded by age in the same way that the death rate per million people is. But again that confounding will be largely fixed by regarding the unvaxxed group as being 45% smaller than it actually is, which reduces the Death rate per case ratio from 520% to 286%.</p> <p>So all things considered doubly vaccinated people are <strong>286%</strong> more likely to die of Covid after infection than unvaccinated people. That does drive a coach and horses through the concept that vaccines do not prevent infection but do stop people dying from Covid. With the proper definition of a Covid death, the Scottish figures show the reverse.</p> <p>What is happening here is that the vaccines do prevent infection and death immediately after vaccination. more by putting the immune system on red alert when it is overwhelmed by genetically programmed spike protein production, than by teaching it to recognise and attack the Wuhan alpha spike protein, which it is never going to see these days.</p> <p>Then after 4 to 6 months, the vaccines <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/10/30/gov-reports-show-fully-vaccinated-and-children-developing-ade/" target="_blank">lose their efficacy entirely and go negative</a> (see also the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3949410" target="_blank">Swedish study</a>) and you end up in a worse position than when you started as regards your chances of being infected (if you are over 30) and as regards dying from all causes. But you end up better off as regards dying from Covid unless you are over 30 and here is why…</p> <p>It is true to say on average that, throughout the 4 week period, the vaccinated are less likely to be infected and less likely to die of Covid. But this statistical whitewash is only achieved because Pfizer is cannily (and despicably) arranging for a continual supply of vaccine virgins in the form of younger and younger children, who benefit from the initial vaccine efficacy, for a long enough time to keep the overall figures just above water.</p> <p>The children make it easier for government stats departments to hide the longer term detrimental effects of the vaccines. The young are not being sacrificed to protect the old. They are being sacrificed to cover up the danger to the old and to them.</p> <p>We have seen from the last 11 weeks of UKHSA data that doubly vaxxed over 30s are on average conservatively 20% more likely to be infected than unvaxxed over 30s (unless boosted). But this new data from Scotland is telling us that doubly vaxxed people when infected are 286% more likely to die than unvaxxed people.</p> <p>Therefore it must be the case that doubly vaxxed over 30s, if not boosted, are more than 286% more likely to die and more than 20% more likely to be infected than unvaxxed over 30s. And if 2 shots put you in a worse position than none after 4-6 months, then it will not be long before 3 shots puts you in a worse position than 2.</p> <p>So no longer are the vaccines safe and no longer are they effective.</p> <p>Make no mistake. When the US government bans discussion of election fraud it is because they have committed election fraud and need to hide it. In fact whenever a political election is very close, the chances are that the side who just wins has cheated just enough to win. Because true polls do not give 49.9% to 50.1% results very often at all.</p> <p>Likewise, when Pfizer stops its 3 year trial after 6 months, and when Moderna stops its 2¼ year trial 28 days after the 2nd jab, it is because they are committing medical fraud and need to hide it. They, more than anybody, know how dangerous these vaccines are. That is why they stopped the trials. Nobody spends fortunes on big expensive clinical trials without doing a small mini trial for their own benefit first to see what the truth is.</p> <p>I must reiterate two fundamental principles of immunology here which the media have cancelled completely.</p> <p>1. You never start a vaccination program during a pandemic. Because you massively increase the chances of teaching the virus to evade the vaccine. That may be the origin of the delta variant.</p> <p>2. Vaccines cannot lose efficiency. They are a digital switch, a quick training course for the immune system. The are supposed to operate for a couple of weeks, the length of a typical viral infection, and then they are supposed to clear off. They have no work to do after that. It is not possible for them to lose efficacy over time because they are a one shot device. Either they train the immune system or they do not. That training is finished in the first 2 weeks after injection.</p> <p><strong>Vaccines are not losing effectiveness. The immune systems of the vaccinated are losing effectiveness. That is vaccine mediated AIDS. Immune systems continue to work after the 2 week vaccine training period. Vaccines do not.</strong></p> <h3>Global Depopulation and the Botswana Variant</h3> <p>Here is how you kill billions of people with biological warfare.</p> <p>1. Release a souped up flu which requires a vaccination.<br /> 2. Design the vaccine to be a Trojan, which protects against the souped up flu but also progressively destroys the immune system’s capability to fight future viruses.<br /> 3. Vaccinate as many people as you possibly can<br /> 4. Once the Trojan has had enough time to destroy most of the viral defences of most vaccinated people, and just when people are beginning to realise what is going on, release your piece de resistance. A gain of function super deadly flu with a massively increased death rate.</p> <p>On Wednesday November 24th the UK Daily Mail, which has been doing a sterling job on Covid, reported that the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10238113/New-Botswana-variant-32-horrific-mutations-evolved-Covid-strain-EVER.htm" target="_blank">Botswana Variant has been discovered</a>. It is called the nu variant. Nu is the Greek letter for n. It has 32 mutations, many of which are to the spike protein and improve its lethality and infectivity. It is a dead ringer for a man made ultimate gain of function terminator 2 virus. Only the Fully Vaccinated should fear the New “Worst Ever” Covid-19 Variant; data shows they already account for 4 in every 5 Covid Deaths

Of these the unvaccinated accounted for 39% of all cases, 34% of all hospitalisations, and 19% of all deaths. Whilst the vaccinated accounted for 61% of all cases, 66% of all hospitalisations, and 81% of all deaths.</p> <p>But a more detailed look at three months worth of Covid-19 data published by the agency reveals that projections show the fully vaccinated were already in for a very rough winter prior to the alleged emergence of the “worst ever” Covid-19 variant. But the most recent four weeks have seen a significant switch with the unvaccinated cases declining by nearly 100,000 cases from week 39-42, whilst the fully vaccinated cases increased by around 53,000.</p> <p>It’s also worth noting that a steady increase has been recorded amongst the partly vaccinated population over the past three months, and the reason for this is that children, who are currently only eligible for a single dose, are still catching Covid-19.</p> <p>This is despite Professor Chris Whitty the Chief Medical Officer for England claiming he was overruling the JCVI because the jab would help in preventing further disruption to the education of children.</p> <p>We knew this was a lie at the time because the jabs cannot and do not prevent infection or transmission of the the past three months by vaccination status as well as the projected number of cases per week up to the 2nd week of January 2022 based on the current trend.</p> <p>As things stand there were 1,067,859 Covid-19 cases among the unvaccinated population between Oct 25th and November 21st, with projections showing cases could increase to a cumulative total of approximately 2.5 million by the second week of January 2022 among the unvaccinated.</p> <p>But there are far more cases among the fully vaccinated population, with 1,108,306 cases being recorded between Oct 25th and Nov 21st, and projections show cases could rise to a cumulative total of approximately 4.8 million by the second week of January.</p> <p>This chart proves that even without the alleged new variant we were already going to see a ‘Pandemic of the Fully Vaccinated’ this winter.</p> <h3>Covid-19 Hospitalisations</h3> <p>The following chart shows the total number of hospitalisations over four week periods from August 30th to unvaccinated have floated around the 3,000 mark over four week periods throughout the past three months.</p> <p>But unfortunately for the fully vaccinated population, hospitalisations among this group have been getting progressively worse by the month.</p> <p>The number of hospitalisations among the fully vaccinated between week 43 and 46 is 30% higher than the number of hospitalisations among the fully vaccinated between week 35 and 38. Whereas the number of hospitalisations among the unvaccinated between week 43 and 46 is just 5% higher than the number recorded between week 35 and 38.</p> <p>This shows that the fully vaccinated are currently the biggest burden on the NHS, not the unvaccinated, and it also shows us something peculiar in terms of the overall picture considering the vaccines are supposed to reduce the risk of hospitalisation.</p> <p>In all there were 1,067,859 cases among the unvaccinated between August 30th and November 21st. Therefore, with a total of 8,825 hospitalisations, the case-hospitalisation rate among the unvaccinated is 0.82%.</p> <p>However, with 1,108,306 cases among the vaccination population during the same time frame, and 15,191 hospitalisations, the case-hospitalisation rate among the fully vaccinated is 1.37%.</p> <p>Therefore, the case-hospitalisation rate among the fully vaccinated is 67% higher than the case-hospitalisation rate among the unvaccinated. What this clearly demonstrates is that there is a much higher hospitalisation-fatality rate among the fully vaccinated and partly vaccinated populations than the rate among the unvaccinated population.</p> <p>In all there were 8,825 hospitalisations and 1,882 deaths among the unvaccinated between August 30th and November 21st. The percentages have been calculated based on the ‘Rates by Vaccination Status’ calculated in the previous chart.</p> <p>The chart shows that the fully vaccinated are 67% more likely to be hospitalised with Covid-19 if infected, therefore this shows that the Covid-19 vaccines have an average vaccine effectiveness of -67% against hospitalisation.</p> <p>But the most concerning figure demonstrated on the above chart shows that the fully vaccinated are 294% more likely to die with Covid-19 if infected. This shows that the Covid-19 vaccines have an average vaccine effectiveness of -294% against death.</p> <h3>Why?</h3> <p>The reason the fully vaccinated are actually suffering far worse than the unvaccinated, and are projected to suffer worse still, could have something to do with the fact that the <a href="https://dailyexpose.uk/2021/11/16/are-the-fully-vaccinated-developing-covid-19-vaccine-induced-acquired-immunodeficiency-syndrome/">data suggests the Covid-19 injections are decimating the immune systems of the vaccinated</a>, as we demonstrated in a <a href="https://dailyexpose.uk/2021/11/16/are-the-fully-vaccinated-developing-covid-19-vaccine-induced-acquired-immunodeficiency-syndrome/">previous article</a> published Tuesday November 16th which can case rate than the unvaccinated population, and things are getting progressively worse by the month.</p> <p>This means the Covid-19 injections are proving to have a negative effectiveness, and this unfortunately suggests that they are decimating the fully vaccinated populations immune systems, and we are seeing further evidence of this hidden in official government reports.</p> <p>For instance, the Week 42 Vaccine <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1027511/Vaccine-surveillance-report-week-42.pdf">Surveillance report</a> published by the UKHSA states the following –</p> <p><em>“Recent observations from UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) surveillance data that N antibody levels appear to be lower in individuals who acquire infection following 2 doses of vaccination.”</em></p> <div class="wp-block-image"> <figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img alt="" class="wp-image-29836" data-attachment-id="29836" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-caption="" data-image-description="" 300w" width="639" /></figure> </div> <p>What this means is that the Covid-19 vaccines interfere with the immune systems ability to produce antibodies against other pieces of the SARS-CoV-2 virus following infection, in the case of the N antibody this is against the nucleocapsid protein which is the shell of the virus, and a crucial part of the immune system response in the unvaccinated population.</p> <p>Therefore, if any mutations to the spike protein of the alleged SARS-CoV-2 virus occur in the future, the vaccinated will be far more vulnerable and possibly unprotected due to their inability to produce the N antibody, even if they have already been infected and recovered from Covid-19.</p> <p>Whereas the unvaccinated would have much better immunity to any mutations due to their ability to produce both S and N antibodies after infection.</p> <h3>What do we know?</h3> <p>The new “worst ever” variant is called B.1.1.529 and is allegedly incredibly, heavily mutated.</p> <p>Professor Tulio de Oliveira, the director of the Centre for Epidemic Response and Innovation in South Africa, said there was an “unusual constellation of mutations” and that it was “very different” to other variants that have circulated.</p> <p>“This variant did surprise us, it has a big jump on evolution [and] many more mutations than we expected,” he said.</p> <p>In a media briefing Professor de Oliveira said there were <strong>50 mutations overall</strong> and <strong>more than 30 on the spike protein</strong>, which is the target of the Covid-19 vaccines and now the only part of the Covid-19 virus that the fully vaccinated are able to produce antibodies against, as confirmed in the UKHSA report.</p> <p>Therefore, –  with 80% of deaths, 65% of hospitalisations, and 54% of cases being among the partly and fully vaccinated population since at least August 30^th, proving England is experiencing a ‘Pandemic of the Fully Vaccinated’, and the vaccinated populations inability to produce the N antibody because of the vaccines only targeting the spike protein – <strong>the unvaccinated population have absolutely nothing to worry about, but the vaccinated population have On the basis of initial testing, the Dutch health ministry estimated there may be around 85 positive cases among the passengers.</p> <p>"Travelers with a positive test result will be placed in isolation at a hotel at or near Schiphol," health authorities said in a statement.</p> <p>"Of the positive test results, we are researching as quickly as possible whether they are the new variant of concern, now named 'Omicron'."</p> <p>The Dutch government banned all air travel from southern Africa early on Friday. Health Minister Hugo de Jonge said that passengers already en route to the Netherlands would have to undergo testing and quarantine upon arrival.</p> <p>Passengers on the two KLM flights, from Cape Town and Johannesburg, said they were kept waiting on the tarmac for hours.</p> <p>"Vigorous applause because there is a BUS that has come to take us ... somewhere," tweeted New York Times journalist Stephanie Nolen, a passenger on the flight from Johannesburg.</p> <p>"Bus to a hall to a huge queue. I can see COVID testers in bright blue PPE far on the distance. <div class="ins_instory_dv"> <div class="ins_instory_dv_cont"><img alt="Online Shopping Spend Soars Even Before Retailers Open On 'Black Friday'" src="https://c.ndtvimg.com/2019-11/t719l668_black-friday_625x300_27_November_19.jpg" title="Online Shopping Spend Soars Even Before Retailers Open On 'Black Friday'" /></div> <p class="ins_instory_dv_caption sp_b">Black Friday, kicking off the holiday shopping season, is the day after Thanksgiving (Representational)</p> </div> <b class="place_cont">New York:</b> <p>Americans returned to stores for the "Black Friday" kickoff of the holiday shopping season, but online data shows that consumers have been spending big for weeks amid worries over shortages.</p> <p>The day after the US Thanksgiving celebration is the traditional start to the holiday shopping season, and normally sees Americans line up outside stores before they open to clinch deals on popular items.</p> <p>After the pandemic kept crowds away last year, many shoppers were out in force Friday, a sign of how Covid-19 vaccines have returned life in the United States to something closer to normal.</p> <p>"I just wanted to make sure that this Christmas was a good Christmas for all my friends and family," said a masked Sylvia Gonzalez as she waited in line line outside the jewelry chain Pandora in New York.</p> <p>But even before retailers opened their doors early Friday morning, e-commerce shoppers in the United States had already spent $76 billion since early November, up more than 20 percent from the year-ago period, according to data from software company Adobe, which has projected somewhat fewer promotions this year in light of rising costs.</p> <p>The jump has added to companies' optimism about the season, suggesting some shoppers heeded calls from businesses to purchase items early this year after port backlogs and other logistics problems sparked worries that popular goods would be in short supply.</p> <p>Toys led the buying spree, with Adobe pointing to actions by "anxious parents increasingly aware of supply chain challenges."</p> <p>The National Retail Federation projects overall spending could rise as much as 10.5 percent to $859 billion.</p> <p>Nonetheless, out-of-stock listings online are up 261 percent compared with two years ago, according to Adobe.</p> <p><strong>Item in hand</strong></p> <p>Retailers and market watchers are broadly optimistic about the holiday shopping season in light of low unemployment and relatively strong household finances due in part to pandemic stimulus bills enacted by the government.</p> <p>Countering those positive trends are lingering supply chain problems, spiking consumer prices that have affected household staples such as food and fuel, and the Covid-19 pandemic, which is still far from over.</p> <p>On Friday, stock markets worldwide tumbled on worries that the latest strain of the virus found in South Africa could derail the global recovery.</p> <p>Reminders of the pandemic were visible throughout shopping districts in the New York borough of Manhattan.</p> <p>Signs at Macy's reminded customers to keep six feet apart and pop-up Covid-19 testing sites were positioned outside stores where mostly masked crowds were large, but not as sizeable as before the pandemic.</p> <p>"In 2018, it was more like the New York you heard of," said German tourist Ilke Zienteck. "Now, it's a little bit like a small town."</p> <p>Still, the hum of customers inside shops suggested that many had adjusted to the "new normal" of pandemic living.</p> <p>There were obvious gaps at some stores. At a Best Buy near Grand Central Station, a shelf of Apple accessories was almost completely empty, while the camera bags section had few remaining offerings.</p> <p>Other chains like Victoria's Secret and Foot Locker have acknowledged shortages of some choice products.</p> <p>Taylor Schreiner, a digital research expert at Adobe, expects more consumers to order online and pay for expedited shipping, or pick up goods at stores.</p> <p>"It's not just because people want it quickly," he said in an interview. "Having the item in hand is the surest way to have the gift for the person."</p> <p><strong>January glut?</strong></p> <p>An emerging worry in the industry is that retailers will be stuck with goods originally intended for the holidays but that don't arrive until January.</p> <p>Macy's is generally canceling orders for items with a Christmas motif, but plans to keep other items if they are cold-weather-oriented and could sell later in the winter, executives said earlier this month.</p> <p>Gap Chief Financial Officer Katrina O'Connell said the apparel chain was planning to hold some items for next winter.</p> <p>"If we think items are going to be too late for the holiday season, we won't put them in stores or online and have them generate markdowns," she said earlier this week on a conference call with Wall Street analysts. (File)</p> </div> <b class="place_cont">Melbourne:</b> <p>Australian on Saturday imposed new restrictions on people who have been in nine southern African countries, as the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 raises concerns about a further wave of the pandemic.</p> <p>The countries are South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho, Eswatini, the Seychelles, Malawi and Mozambique.</p> <p>Effective immediately, the government will ban non-citizens who have been in those countries from entering and will require supervised 14-day quarantines for Australian citizens and their dependents returning from the countries, said Health Minister Greg Hunt.</p> <p>These restrictions also apply to people such as international students and skilled migrants arriving from countries with which Australia has travel bubbles, who have been in any of the nine countries within the past 14 days.</p> <p>"If the medical evidence shows that further actions are required, we will not hesitate to take them. And that may involve strengthening or expanding the restrictions," he said.</p> <p>Anyone who has already arrived in Australia and who has been in any of those countries within the past 14 days must immediately isolate and be tested.</p> <p>The Australian government will also suspend all flights from the nine southern African countries for two weeks.</p> <p>Twenty travellers from South Africa are in quarantine in the Northern Territory's Howard Springs facility, 19 of whom have returned negative coronavirus tests. It is not yet known if the one positive test result is the Omicron variant, Hunt said.</p> <p>The discovery of the variant - which has a spike protein dramatically different from the one that existing vaccines are based on - triggered global alarm on Friday as countries rushed to suspend travel from southern Africa and stock markets suffered their biggest falls in more than a year.</p> <p>Australia early this month eased its international border restrictions for the first time during the pandemic allowing fully vaccinated residents to return to the country without quarantine after higher vaccination levels.</p> <p>Australia had largely stamped out infections for most of this year until an outbreak of the highly infectious Delta variant in late June spread rapidly across its east. Real-world research will be important too, as health authorities monitor the outbreak in South Africa closely to find out how much more transmissible the new variant will be as it spreads and whether it's more dangerous or deadly.</p> <p>The questions will take weeks to answer, scientists and policy makers said Friday. The search for understanding starts in the variant's dramatic pattern of 50 mutations, more than 30 of which are on the virus's spike protein, which is the weapon Covid-19 uses to invade victims' cells. It will continue via lab work and finally in observations of illness and transmission patterns in real life.</p> <p>What's clear so far is that a constellation of mutations has come together that may make omicron spread more quickly, said Wendy Barclay, head of the department of infectious disease at Imperial College London.</p> <p>"Taken together on paper, it's very biologically plausible that this virus has increased transmissibility," Barclay said in a briefing Friday. Researchers must apply the knowledge they've gained in more than a year of intense study of the virus, she said. "That's where you start, and then you try and back up that sort of approach by looking at the epidemiology and the laboratory-based studies."</p> <p><strong>Wily Virus</strong></p> <p>The first job of a virus is survival in its hosts, and nature has programmed them to shift shapes. SARS-CoV-2 has been mutating and changing since it was first identified, with the first variant of concern -- alpha -- designated in December 2020. Omicron, previously known as B.1.1.529, is the fifth variant of concern the World Health Organization has named.</p> <p>Omicron may have a growth advantage over the others, however, because it's been found at faster rates than in previous surges, the WHO said on Friday. It may also pose a greater risk of reinfection than other variants of concern, the WHO said.</p> <p>There are hints in omicron's spread in South Africa that it may be more transmissible, said Sharon Peacock, a professor of public health and microbiology at the University of Cambridge who also heads the Covid-19 Genomics U.K. consortium. "When the Ministry of Health saw the numbers were doubling every day, the question that they asked was, 'Well, where are these cases coming from?'"</p> <p>Those questions and the quick surveillance by South Africa and its neighbors may have put the rest of the world in a position to buy more time than was possible when the delta variant was emerging in India, said Jeffrey Barrett, director of the Covid-19 Genomics Initiative at the Wellcome Sanger Institute in the U.K.</p> <p>"They found this, understood that it was a problem and told the world extremely fast," Barrett said. "It took many, many weeks into India's extremely terrible wave before it became clear what was going on, and by that point delta had already seeded itself in many parts of the world."</p> <p><strong>Knowledge Sprint</strong></p> <p>The impact the new variant will have on vaccines could become clear relatively soon. BioNTech SE, which works with Pfizer Inc. on the world's best-selling Covid vaccine, said it's beginning lab studies on the variant and should have the first data on how it interacts with the vaccine within two weeks.</p> <p>BioNTech and Pfizer have long promised that they'll be able to roll out a new version of their vaccine within 100 days if necessary.</p> <p>Moderna Inc. is also studying how well its current vaccine booster dose neutralizes omicron, with data likely in the coming weeks. The company said on Friday that it is also working on a high-dose version of the booster, new multivalent boosters and a new booster specific to omicron. Moderna said it is typically able to get new experimental vaccines into testing in 60 to 90 days.</p> <p>Mutations may also help omicron elude the antibody treatments, such as Roche Holding AG and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s Ronapreve, that have become a mainstay of therapy for people who can't muster an adequate immune response on their own, ICL's Barclay and other scientists said.</p> <p>Roche's researchers are studying the new variant, said spokesman Karsten Kleine, and it's too early to say how it will interact with the antibody cocktail.</p> <p>GlaxoSmithKline Plc, which markets a Covid antibody with Vir Biotechnology Inc., said it believes its antibody will probably work against the variant because it targets part of the spike protein that's shared among many different, distantly related coronaviruses. The company is working urgently to confirm that in the lab, it said in a statement.</p> <p><strong>Antiviral Arsenal</strong></p> <p>Even if the new variant resists vaccines and monoclonal antibodies, doctors won't be out of weapons.</p> <p>Antivirals such as the experimental pill being developed by Pfizer Inc. will probably still work, Barclay said.</p> <p>That's because of the way those pills act in the body. Instead of targeting the virus's spike protein, as vaccines and other treatments do, they attack in different way to prevent the virus from multiplying. That makes the new variant's spike-protein mutations less likely to resist the pills.</p> <p>"There are no mutations that would signal a change in susceptibility," Barclay said.</p> <p>The antivirals aren't approved for use yet. Pfizer on Nov. 16 filed for an emergency-use authorization for the medicine in the U.S.; a similar review began in the European Union three days later.</p> <p>A second pill, from Merck & Co., ran into a hurdle after trial results showed it was less effective than had been thought. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration staff raised questions about whether it could cause birth defects, bone and cartilage toxicity and genetic mutations.
