Teen Commits Suicide 6 Weeks into COVID-19 Lockdown in Sydney

<p><strong>Daisy Long, a 19-year-old university student, tragically ended her life on August 6th just six weeks into the Sydney lockdown.</strong></p>
<p>The student had dreams of travelling the world after she had spent years battling a debilitating chronic illness, however, the Covid-19 pandemic and ongoing lockdown shut down her plans.</p>
<p>The lockdown in Sydney, which is part of a larger lockdown in the Australian state of New South Wales, was initially set to last only two weeks – starting June 26th and ending July 9th – but was extended several times as the state struggled to contain the Delta variant.</p>
<p>Daisy’s younger sister, Tiggy, 16, said in an interview on the Australian news programme Today: “It’s been extremely difficult. I’ve felt like there’s just a missing piece in my life.</p>
<p>“Daisy was the one who taught me strength and she went through many challenges in life. She always had a smile on her face and held her head high.”</p>
<p>Daisy was chronically ill with a tick-borne disease between the ages of 13 and 16.</p>
<p>Her mother, Sally said: “During those years, when she should have been at school having fun and enjoying herself, instead she was bed-bound.</p>
<p>“We kept saying to her ‘once you are better, your life will be better and you will go ahead and achieve your goals and dreams.’ She focused on that. She applied for psychology at Macquarie University, was accepted and began her degree this year. She received high distinctions. Then COVID lockdown began. It sent her spiralling downwards.”</p>
<p>Her sister Tiggy said that Daisy suffered the effects of lockdown more than anyone, saying that Daisy felt lonely and trapped in a prison.</p>
<p>“Me and my sister were extremely close. And it does feel like prison. It feels so lonely and it feels like it’s never going to come to an end.</p>
<p>“When you get in that headspace of I’m trapped and it’s never going to end, you think how can I survive lockdown?”</p>
<p>Tiggy urged her fellow teens to ask for help and support when they need it, explaining that she bottled up her emotions until she recently lost her sister.</p>
<p>“Daisy wasn’t able to come to a point where she could voice what she was feeling. I know it’s not that easy, but you just have to speak up.</p>
<p>“You just need to get it out to someone because especially in lockdown, when you’re trapped in your room and you are dealing with these emotions, you’ll just explode at one point. When you’re dealing with mental health issues you have to think about yourself.”</p>
<p>Daisy’s mother issued a plea to parents who are struggling during the lockdown: “Don’t get hung up on the small stuff. Don’t get hung up on whether they’ve done the essay or not. It’s neither here nor there at the moment really. No disrespect to the education system, but at the moment they need to be having whatever release of freedom and fun they can have.</p>
<p>“If they want to sit up and watch a movie until three in the morning let them. Because what they’re doing is they’re getting out of their head. You want them out of their head. You want them out of their head. You don’t want them in here.”</p>
<p>Daisy’s family has set up <a href="https://www.facebook.com/tiggysperspective/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.facebook.com/tiggysperspective/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tiggy’s Perspective</a> to raise awareness about suicide.</p>
<p><strong>Tragically, these unnecessary lockdowns will continue to claim the lives of countless innocent children, teens and adults around the world. Whilst governments will insist these enforced restrictions are to protect your life and the lives of others, it is in reality all about controlling the masses and stripping us of our freedoms.</strong></p>

<p><strong>The state of Victoria in Australia will move from lockdowns to lockouts of the unvaccinated according to Premier Daniel Andrews, as residents who refuse to get the jab are shut out of sporting matches, restaurants, travel and cinemas.</strong></p>
<p>Mr Andrews said he had given his commitment to Prime Minister Scott Morrison that Victoria would soon run what he called a “series of outdoor vaccinated economy pilots”.</p>
<p>The pilots are expected to involve regional pubs, as well as an examination of ridiculous outdoor learning for kids and a pilot for home quarantine to “allow” more Victorians back into the state.</p>
<p>He said if successful, the plan would be to roll-out the programs more widely once vaccination rates reached 80 per cent of eligible adults, a milestone expected by November 21st thanks to a siege of psychological warfare, coercion, and misery inflicted upon the general population.</p>
<p>“I had a lengthy and very good discussion with the Prime Minister on Wednesday evening about a number of different things. And one of the things that we obviously agree on – and I stressed with him – is that at 70 and more likely 80% double doses, we will have opportunities to open up parts of the Victorian economy to those who have been vaccinated,” Mr Andrews said.</p>
<p>“When we get to those vaccination double-dose thresholds, as part of the national plan, the notion of a lockdown of the whole community is far less relevant. But what I think will become a bigger part of the response is a lockout of many, many venues for those who are not vaccinated.”</p>
<p>Mr Andrews also said: “I’m not going to lock the whole state down to protect people who won’t protect themselves.”</p>
<p>While he did not use the term vaccine passport, he said: “The chances of you booking a ticket for a sporting event or going to a pub will be very, very limited.</p>
<p>“We will have a situation where the economy is operating for the vaccinated, not everywhere, not at full capacity. But the notion for instance, some outdoor drinking and dining, things like that will be absolutely possible,” Mr Andrews said.</p>
<p>“We will do some industry pilots quite soon … we can do some of those pilots safely in regional Victoria, potentially, hopefully, because they will not be in lockdown anymore.”</p>

<p>Australian Football League chief executive Gillon McLachlan said they were yet to reach a decision to mandate vaccinations for players and crowds but governments were “signalling that’s a possibility” and “clearly it has to be something that’s a plausible possibility”.</p>
<p>Business groups have shamefully backed the move to lock out the unvaccinated, and the Australian Industry Group has been conspiring with governments for some time on a plan it calls “health passes”.</p>
<p>“It’s important that it be seen as a health pass rather than vaccination passport because we don’t want to create any thought that we need a passport within Australia,” Victorian head of Ai Group, Tim Piper said in what was a clear demonstration on how they plan to psychologicially manipulate the public into accepting what is a vaccine passport.</p>
<p>“It has to be a carrot approach. It might be that I love eating out, going to a museum or the theatre, or perhaps the footy or the cricket. It could be that I want to go to church, the synagogue or a mosque,” he said.</p>
<p>The Victorian business chamber has also been pushing for health passes but said vaccination certificates must be integrated with the QR code check.</p>
<p>“It must be a single system to reduce the impost on business,” chief executive Paul Guerra said. “That technology should be rolled out as soon as such a scheme commences. It is crucial that there is no additional cost impost on business or the potential for reputational risk.”</p>
<p>The head of the Australian Hotels Association in Victoria, Paddy O’Sullivan, shamefully said he would love to see health passes rolled out across all regional pubs in Victoria to build on the AHA’s “no tick, no entry” campaign on QR codes.</p>
<p>“In the absence of any other viable solution this is worth a crack,” he said. “If you want to be an anti-vaxxer and complain, then you don’t have to come to the pub”. Mr O’Sullivan obviously doesn’t realise that those refusing the Covid-19 injection are not necessarily anti-vax, but instead anti-unsafe-unproven-experimental-gene-therapy.</p>
<p>Mr Andrews said that Victoria would also join New South Wales in running a pilot program for home-based quarantine with the use of technology coupled with testing, following a pilot program in Adelaide.</p>
<p>The Premier also said the programs showed “there was a power of work going on”, where “people are working as hard as they possibly can to make sure that not only do we have a comprehensive road map but detailed plans and policies, not of talk but action.”</p>
<p>His comments come after Victoria recorded just 208 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Friday September 3rd out of a population of 6.7 million people. The state currently has just 1,417 active cases; 0.02% of the entire population, and has <a href="https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/victorian-coronavirus-covid-19-data">recorded just 823 deaths</a> since March 2020; 0.01% of the entire population.</p>
<p>As of the 5th September 2021 the entire state has <a href="https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/victorian-coronavirus-covid-19-data">just 89 people in hospital</a> who have allegedly tested positive for Covid-19; 0.001% of the entire population.</p>

<p>According to federal health department figures, 58.1 per cent of the eligible Victorian population has received their first dose of a vaccine, while 36 per cent are fully vaccinated, you can expect that number to quickly rise if they are naive enough to surcumb to the threats made by Premier Dan Andrews to lock the unvaccinated out of society.</p>
<p>Australia has fallen.</p>

Pandemic of the Vaccinated – Latest PHE Report reveals the vaccinated account for 70% of Covid-19 deaths since February

<p><strong>Because of the threats now being made to give an experimental Covid-19 injection to children against the advice of the JCVI, and the confirmation that vaccine passports will be introduced in the United Kingdom from October, you’re probably not aware that Public Health England have released a report at precisely the same time which reveals 70% of Covid-19 deaths since February are people who had been vaccinated.</strong></p>
<p>The report titled <a href="https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/1014926/Technical_Briefing_22_21_09_02.pdf">‘SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern and variants under investigation in England</a>’, is the 22nd technical briefing on alleged variants of concern in the United Kingdom and makes for extremely interesting reading once you realise what the statistics are actually telling us.</p>
<p>PHE have compiled a helpful table which shows the number of alleged confirmed Delta variant cases in the UK alongside the number of alleged deaths due to the variant. The table shows that since the 1<sup>st</sup> February 2021 up to the 29th August 2021 there have been 492,528 alleged confirmed cases of the Delta variant. Of these 144,067 had been confirmed in the past 28 days alone.</p>
<p>The data shows that people who are not vaccinated account for just 44% of the alleged confirm Covid cases, whilst those who are fully vaccinated account for 23% of the alleged confirmed cases. A further 16% of the alleged cases are people who had received one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine at least 21 days prior to their alleged confirmed Covid-19 infection.</p>

<p>As you can see from the above table nearly twice as many people who are not vaccinated account for confirmed cases of Covid-19 than those who are fully vaccinated. However when you include the number to have received one dose of a Covid-19 injection the number of cases among the vaccinated group (222,693) actually surpasses the number that have been recorded among the unvaccinated population.</p>
<p>When the Covid-19 vaccines were given emergency use authorisation the authorities did not have a clue as to whether they would work. The limited trials carried out only measured whether or not a vaccinated person suffered serious disease if infected with Covid-19, they did not measure whether a vaccinated person could still become infected with Covid-19, and they did not measure whether or not a vaccinated person could still spread the virus in line with the <a href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/06/19/germ-theory-the-clues-in-the-title-its-just-a-theory-and-has-never-been-proven/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">mainstream accepted germ theory.</a></p>
<p>It is claimed that the vaccines reduce the chances of suffering serious illness if infected with Covid-19 significantly, so although the vaccinated population actually surpasses the number of infections recorded among the unvaccinated population you would assume that the opposite would be seen in the number of people who have allegedly died to the Delta variant?</p>
<p>Because we have been told time and time again that the Covid-19 vaccines are our only route back to normal and we must come forward, roll up our sleeves and get the jab when called upon to do so. So the vaccines must surely do what they say on the tin?</p>
<p>That must be why they are so desperate to give an experimental injection to children, even though they are already at negligible risk of suffering serious disease. Perhaps the latest Public Health England data shows that risk would be reduced to zero?</p>
<p>Unfortunately, it looks as if we have been lied to and instead of the Covid-19 vaccines being our route back to normal they are instead quite the opposite. Because the data published by Public Health England shows us that the number of alleged deaths due to the Delta variant are not just higher among those who have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, they are astronomically higher.</p>

<p>The total number of deaths to have occurred since February 2021 involving the Delta Covid-19 variant that have been linked to vaccination status total 1,698. Of these just 30% have been among the unvaccinated population, despite the fact most second vaccinations were administered between April and June.</p>
<p>Whereas fully vaccinated account for 64.25% of Covid-19 deaths since February 2021, and when including the partly vaccinated in those numbers they account for 70%. However, it’s important to note that many of the deaths that occurred in the partly vaccinated population may have actually been people who had received two doses of a Covid-19 injection due to the fact PHE does not regard them as having had two doses if it has not been two weeks since they had the second dose.</p>
<p>But what does this mean in terms of the risk of death if infected with the Delta Covid-19 variant? Well it means the risk of death increases significantly in those who have been fully vaccinated.</p>
<p>536 deaths have occurred among 219,716 confirmed cases in the unvaccinated population since February. This is a case fatality rate of 0.2%.</p>
<p>Whereas 1,091 deaths have occurred among 113,823 cases among the fully vaccinated population. This is a case fatality rate of 1%.</p>
<p>This means the Covid-19 injections seem to be increasing the risk of death due to Covid-19 by 400% rather than reducing the risk of death by 95% as claimed by the vaccine manufacturers, Public Health bodies, and the Government, and now they want to give this experimental, deadly treatment to your children.</p>

Why are the Government, it’s scientific advisors, and the mainstream media lying about the Covid-19 Vaccine and Ivermectin?

<p><strong>It’s been quite a week. I’ve been in the media business for decades and I’ve never before witnessed such lies, exaggeration and outright fraud. All with the intent to force everyone to be vaccinated. The question is why?</strong></p>
<p>Let’s start with the vaccine itself. The results in Israel prove what a sham, charade and fraud this all is. The U.S. government and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention argue that the vaccine is our only chance to survive. And that people are hospitalized and dying with COVID-19 because they are unvaccinated.</p>
<p>Both arguments are pure fraud.</p>

<p>First, are you aware that anyone who dies within 14 days of getting vaccinated is considered “unvaccinated”? No wonder they claim everyone who is dying is unvaccinated. If you die from COVID-19, whether you’re vaccinated or unvaccinated, they just call you unvaccinated.</p>
<p>If a businessperson in the private sector tried that scam, they’d spend the next 20 years in prison for fraud.</p>
<p>The CDC has also been using stats of COVID-19 deaths going back to January to make the claim that the deaths are almost exclusively among the unvaccinated. That’s because earlier in the year almost everyone was unvaccinated. That’s called rigging the numbers. The CDC must be using the same Democrats who rigged and stole the 2020 election.</p>
<p>Worst of all, the media has blacked out the developing disaster in Israel. Israel is the most vaccinated country in the world. They all got the Pfizer vaccine. At first, deaths and hospitalizations went to almost zero. <p>But everything changed. Today a massive COVID-19 outbreak has engulfed vaccinated Israel. Hospitals are full. People are dying. At this moment, Israel, the most vaccinated nation in the world, has more COVID-19 infections per capita than any country in the world.</p>
<p>At this moment, 0.2% of the entire population of Israel is catching COVID-19 each day.</p>
<p>This past week was the worst week for COVID-19 in Israel EVER. Israel is setting records for vaccinated people in the hospital. Deaths are skyrocketing.</p>
<p>It’s so bad, no-mask, no-lockdown Sweden has just banned travelers from Israel. Many EU countries are following suit.</p>
<p>The vaccine isn’t just failing, it’s a spectacular fail. It wore off. It no longer works. And just as my holistic doctor friends predicted, it makes the next wave far worse. These doctors say vaccinated people are far more contagious; they carry heavier viral loads and are far more susceptible to getting severe illness than someone with “natural immunity.”</p>
<p>This experiment with an “experimental, emergency-use-only” vaccine is a great big failure. A dangerous and deadly failure.</p>
<p>But at this very moment, Biden, the CDC and the U.S. media are pushing the vaccine, vaccine mandates and vaccine passports harder than ever. The question is why?</p>
<p>Why is forcing every American to get vaccinated so important at the exact moment Israel proves the vaccine they’re pushing is a dramatic, dangerous and deadly failure?</p>
<p>And it’s not just Israel. In the UK, a majority of the COVID-19 deaths last month were among vaccinated people. And the UK death rate from COVID-19 today is dramatically higher than a year ago — when there was no vaccine.</p>
<p>Separate from all that, the VAERS vaccine reporting system reports the vaccine itself is causing tremendous rates of death and crippling injuries. So, vaccinated Americans are dying and becoming severely sick from the vaccine, in addition to dying and becoming severely sick from COVID-19 after getting the vaccine.</p>
<p>And none of this is featured in the news. It’s a total media blackout.</p>
<p>Worse yet, the same government, CDC and media are trying desperately to denigrate and slander the drug that is most successful in treating COVID-19. It’s called ivermectin. In my next column, I’ll show you conclusive proof from around the world that ivermectin is miraculously effective versus COVID-19.</p>
<p>Something is very wrong. It sure seems like someone is scared you might actually recover from COVID-19, doesn’t it?</p>
<p>The question is WHY?</p>

<p><em>I’m looking for a fiction book with amazing prose, specifically set in autumn. Preferably from a female point of view. Some of my favorite books are</em> <a href="https://www.vox.com/2016/6/14/11925192/girls-emma-cline-cults-teen-girl-friendships">The Girls</a> <em>by Emma Cline and</em> <a href="https://www.vox.com/culture/2019/9/3/20807728/sally-rooney-normal-people-conversations-with-friends">Conversations With Friends</a> <em>by Sally Rooney. I’m currently enjoying</em> <a href="https://www.vox.com/culture/21498963/elif-batuman-interview-idiot-either-or">The Idiot</a> <em>by Elif Batuman (one of your recommendations) but really looking for something cozy, or maybe a little spooky, to get into the fall season!</em></p>

It’s the first book in her seasons quartet, which is thematically all about the state of the UK post-Brexit. Smith writes impeccable, playful, very allusive prose that should meet your standards, and her main character is a woman in her 30s, working precariously in academia, who is best friends with a 101-year-old man.</p>
<p>You also strike me as someone who would appreciate A.S. Byatt. She writes very rich, beautiful, Victorian-inflected prose, often about women intellectuals. It’s a gorgeous, gorgeous book.</p>

<p><em>Online learning has left me seeking fiction with the aesthetics of academia and I generally like to read things with some speculative fiction elements, but there’s been a real glut of “school for magic” stories that I’m burnt out on. It’s a bit off the dark academia path as it’s set in a school for meditation and is aesthetically pretty light-filled (like the title suggests!), but it has the structure and thematic play of a campus novel. It is also about teen girls being witchy, which is truly the best plot.</p>
<p>You could also give Tana French’s <a href="https://go.skimresources.com/?id=66960X1516588&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbookshop.org%2Fbooks%2Fthe-likeness-9789573325932%2F9780143115625" has-subtag="true" data-cdata='{"rewritten_url":"https://go.skimresources.com?id=66960X1516588\u0026xs=1\u0026url=https://bookshop.org/books/the-likeness-9789573325932/9780143115625\u0026xcust=___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder","subtag_max_length":50,"subtag_delim_length":3,"subtag_key":"xcust","subtag_data":{"id":"66960X1516588","xs":"1","url":"https://bookshop.org/books/the-likeness-9789573325932/9780143115625","xcust":"___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder"},"encode_subtag":false}'><em>The Likeness</em></a> a try. It’s mostly a mystery, but the inciting incident is lightly supernatural: A grad student has been murdered, and the detective assigned to her case looks exactly like her. There’s never an explanation for their shared appearance, but the detective goes undercover as the murder victim, which allows French to play around with doppelgängers and the idea of a shadow self. (Incidentally, French’s other campus novel, <a href="https://go.skimresources.com/?id=66960X1516588&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbookshop.org%2Fbooks%2Fthe-secret-place-9781467686518%2F9780143127512" has-subtag="true" data-cdata='{"rewritten_url":"https://go.skimresources.com?id=66960X1516588\u0026xs=1\u0026url=https://bookshop.org/books/the-secret-place-9781467686518/9780143127512\u0026xcust=___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder","subtag_max_length":50,"subtag_delim_length":3,"subtag_key":"xcust","subtag_data":{"id":"66960X1516588","xs":"1","url":"https://bookshop.org/books/the-secret-place-9781467686518/9780143127512","xcust":"___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder"},"encode_subtag":false}'><em>The Secret Place</em></a>, is also about teen girls being witchy, but it feels much less magical in that book than in either <em>The Likeness</em> or <em>The Lightness</em>.)</p>
<p>Finally, the new companion trilogy to the Dark Materials books, <a href="https://go.skimresources.com/?id=66960X1516588&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbookshop.org%2Fbooks%2Fthe-book-of-dust-la-belle-sauvage-book-of-dust-volume-1%2F9780553510744" has-subtag="true" data-cdata='{"rewritten_url":"https://go.skimresources.com?id=66960X1516588\u0026xs=1\u0026url=https://bookshop.org/books/the-book-of-dust-la-belle-sauvage-book-of-dust-volume-1/9780553510744\u0026xcust=___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder","subtag_max_length":50,"subtag_delim_length":3,"subtag_key":"xcust","subtag_data":{"id":"66960X1516588","xs":"1","url":"https://bookshop.org/books/the-book-of-dust-la-belle-sauvage-book-of-dust-volume-1/9780553510744","xcust":"___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder"},"encode_subtag":false}'>The Book of Dust</a>, takes place primarily in a fantasy version of Oxford. I’m thinking it could break through your “school for magic” doldrums — fantasy Oxford exists in a magical world, but it is not a school where people teach magic.</p>

<p><em>I’m a voracious reader with very eclectic taste and never normally short of a book, but I’m beginning to feel like what I’m looking for might not exist. I really just want to see someone like me in my fiction.</em></p>
<p><em>I became disabled as an adult (fibromyalgia and now use mobility aids) and it just wasn’t the end of my world. There have been some tough times, sure, and letting go of some things, but it was neither the absolute personal disaster I often see in fiction or the inspirational overcoming of adversity you see in a lot of memoirs.</em></p>
<p><em>I’m looking for something fictional that has a disabled protagonist where their disability is treated as a facet of their lives and not either their entire personality or the thing the plot revolves around. Some of my favorite authors are Neil Gaiman, Agatha Christie, and Sharon Kay Penman, which shows a bit of the wide range I’m happy to look at to find a book about someone just like me.</em></p>

Galbraith is J.K. Rowling’s pen name, so if you decide to read them you have to figure out how you feel about <a href="https://www.vox.com/culture/21285396/jk-rowling-transphobic-backlash-harry-potter">her transphobia</a>, but on their own merits they compose a pretty solid detective series. (Excluding the most recent volume, <a href="https://www.vox.com/culture/21449215/troubled-blood-review-jk-rowling-transphobia-controversy"><em>Troubled Blood</em></a>, which is hellishly boring and also has a transphobic subplot.) The main character, Cormoran Strike, is a vet who had part of his leg amputated in the war, and while that obviously affects his life (e.g. he has to figure out how much weight he can put on his prosthetic, and when his leg is too irritated to deal with the prosthetic at all), it’s not at all his defining characteristic.</p>

Bardugo is one of those writers who becomes a more interesting author with every book she writes, and with <em>Six of Crows</em> she’s really reaching her peak. These two books make up a heist story, and they’re really fun. The main character, Kaz, has a bad leg and walks with a cane, but his main thing is being a criminal prodigy.</p>
<p>Hillary Mantel’s <a href="https://go.skimresources.com/?id=66960X1516588&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbookshop.org%2Fbooks%2Fwolf-hall%2F9780312429980" has-subtag="true" data-cdata='{"rewritten_url":"https://go.skimresources.com?id=66960X1516588\u0026xs=1\u0026url=https://bookshop.org/books/wolf-hall/9780312429980\u0026xcust=___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder","subtag_max_length":50,"subtag_delim_length":3,"subtag_key":"xcust","subtag_data":{"id":"66960X1516588","xs":"1","url":"https://bookshop.org/books/wolf-hall/9780312429980","xcust":"___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder"},"encode_subtag":false}'><em>Wolf Hall</em> trilogy</a> has a recurring subplot about chronic illness. These books cover the life of Thomas Cromwell, chief fixer to Henry VIII, and one of the many issues Cromwell has to deal with is that he has a recurring fever. He first picked it up as a young man in Italy, and at various times throughout these three books he’ll find himself confined to his bed by it. The series is also just extremely beautiful and immersive, and I think they have one of the most interesting approaches to interiority I’ve seen in contemporary fiction.</p>
<p><a href="https://go.skimresources.com/?id=66960X1516588&xs=1&url=https%3A%2F%2Fbookshop.org%2Fbooks%2Fthe-seamstress-9780060738884%2F9780060738884" has-subtag="true" data-cdata='{"rewritten_url":"https://go.skimresources.com?id=66960X1516588\u0026xs=1\u0026url=https://bookshop.org/books/the-seamstress-9780060738884/9780060738884\u0026xcust=___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder","subtag_max_length":50,"subtag_delim_length":3,"subtag_key":"xcust","subtag_data":{"id":"66960X1516588","xs":"1","url":"https://bookshop.org/books/the-seamstress-9780060738884/9780060738884","xcust":"___vx__p_22412729__m_m-placeholder__s_s-placeholder__t_w__c_c-placeholder__r_r-placeholder__d_d-placeholder"},"encode_subtag":false}'><em>The Seamstress</em></a> by Frances de Pontes Peebles is a favorite novel of mine. It’s about two sisters in Brazil in the 1930s, one of whom becomes a great seamstress; the other becomes an outlaw and in the process loses her hand. There’s a lot about how she learns to live her life without her hand, and it’s also just a really lovely, exciting book.</p>
