<p><strong>On April 1st 2020, the Chief Medical Officers of England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland, and the National Medical Director Stephen Powis <a href="https://www.recoverytrial.net/files/professional-downloads/the-importance-of-covid-19-clinical-trials.pdf">signed a message sent to their NHS colleagues</a> to ask that every effort was made to enroll COVID-19 patients in the national priority clinical trials.</strong></p>

<p>Those trials were:</p>
<p>PRINCIPLE (higher risk patients in primary care trial). <br />
RECOVERY (in hospital trial) <br />
REMAP-CAP (critically ill patient trial)<br />

Hydroxychloroquine was one of the drugs being trialled. In the R<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5cde3c7d9a69340001d79ffe/t/5ea3fd83f222897b8d528195/1587805583231/REMAP-CAP+-+COVID-19+Antiviral+Domain-Specific+Appendix+V2.0+-+01+April+2020_WM.pdf" target="_blank">ECOVERY Trial and the REMAP-CAP Trial</a> they used an extremely high and potentially lethal dose: 800 mg at 0 and 6 hours followed by 400 mg at 12 hours and then every 12 hours for up to nine additional days. A patient was therefore given 2,400 mg in the first 24 hours of treatment.</p>

<p>According to David Jayne, professor of clinical autoimmunity at Cambridge University:</p>
<p>“Hydroxychloroquine overdose is associated with cardiovascular, neurological, and other toxicities, occurring with doses over 1500 mg, and higher doses are associated with fatality.”</p>
<p>In an article for the BMJ found <a href="https://www.bmj.com/content/370/bmj.m2670" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">here</a> co-head of the Recovery Trial Martin Landray explained:</p>
<p>“The dose comes from modelling by Nick White, professor of tropical medicine at the University of Oxford, and his team, who have extensive experience with this drug.”</p>
<p>Sir Nicholas White was involved in the WHO’s “Informal consultation on the potential role of chloroquine in the clinical management of COVID 19 infection” on March 13th. Also present were 5 “Experts” affiliated with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The <a href="https://www.who.int/blueprint/priority-diseases/key-action/RD-Blueprint-expert-group-on-CQ-call-Mar-13-2020.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">WHO’s SOLIDARITY Trial used the same dose for hydroxychloroquine</a> as the RECOVERY & REMAP-CAP Trials.</p>
<p><a href="https://academic.oup.com/cid/article/71/15/732/5801998" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chinese scientists had already recommended a much lower and safer dose</a> on March 9th 2020: </p>
<p>“a loading dose of 400 mg twice daily of hydroxychloroquine sulfate given orally, followed by a maintenance dose of 200 mg given twice daily for 4 days is recommended for SARS-CoV-2 infection”</p>
<p>The RECOVERY trial enrolled it’s first patient on March 19th (see from 9th minute onwards):</p>

<p>The REMAP-CAP Trial was a global trial that had a very large number of participating sites in England:</p>

<p>The largest clusters of participating sites for the REMAP-CAP trial were in London, the West Midlands and the North West. According to the Financial Times these regions saw the largest increases in excess deaths in Spring 2020:</p>

<p>There is a genetic disorder known as G6PD deficiency. G6PDd is prevalent in parts of the world where malaria is endemic such as Sub-Saharan Africa. Hydroxychloroquine is a more dangerous drug for people with G6PDd.</p>
<p>The German physician <a href="https://www.bmj.com/content/369/bmj.m1820/rr-0" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wolfgang Wodarg wrote to the British Medical Journal</a> offering an explanation for the overrepresentation of ethnic minorities among patients and medical staff in COVID-19 death statistics:</p>
<p>“I think one of the possible reasons for more Covid-19 victims among patients and medical staff with ancestors from malaria countries could be the widespread use of chloroquine (cq) and hydroxychloroquine (hcq) for therapy and for prophylactic indications with patients with a G6PD-deficiency.”</p>

<p>In an interview with Vinay Prasad one of the world’s top epidemiologists John Ioannidis stated the following about the mistakes made in the “First Wave”:</p>
<p>“… probably we killed about 100,000 people just with hydroxychloroquine as treatment globally” </p>

<p>Torsten Engelbrecht and Claus Köhnlein, MD (Co-Authors of the book “Virus Mania”) believe it could have been much higher:<a href="https://realnewsaustralia.com/2020/10/01/covid-19-excess-mortalities-viral-cause-impossible-drugs-with-key-role-in-about-200000-extra-deaths-in-europe-and-the-us-alone/?bclid=IwAR3fx8mkExtNDSgUWiYT81AkQNybAHDuFwX_X5zTq834Dx2n7uGXqizL3N4">COVID-19 (excess) mortalities: viral cause impossible—drugs with key role in about 200,000 extra deaths in Europe and the US alone</a></p>
<p>The first official COVID-19 death was Peter Attwood in January 2020. He was admitted to hospital with a bad cough on January 7th. The virus – said to be more transmissible and more lethal than the flu – was therefore in the UK as far back as December if not earlier. </p>
<p>There were no excess deaths in the UK in January or February. Excess deaths only began in mid-late March coinciding with:</p>
<p>1. The implementation of Lockdown<br />
2. The discharging of patients (who hadn’t fully recovered) out of hospitals (where you’re most likely to pick up an infection) into care homes (where the most vulnerable people are)<br />
3. The trials in which extremely high and potentially lethal doses of hydroxychloroquine were being administered</p>

<p>A 5-magnitude earthquake jolted Yecheng County of Kashgar Prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region at 1:52 am Sunday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).</p>
<p>The epicenter, at a depth of 10 km, was monitored at 37.79 degrees north latitude and 77.85 degrees east longitude, said the CENC.</p>

<p>President Joe Biden will travel to New York and New Jersey next week to get a first-hand look at the damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida, the White House said Saturday.</p>
<p>The final blast of the storm that first hit the US Gulf Coast last weekend killed at least 47 people in northeastern states as it turned streets into raging rivers and flooded homes and the New York subway.</p>
<p>Biden will tour Manville, New Jersey and the New York borough of Queens on Tuesday.</p>
<p>On Friday, the president toured Louisiana to see the catastrophic damage wrought by Ida when it struck the region as a powerful Category 4 hurricane.</p>
<p>He called for Americans to come together as the world endures more and more extreme weather events as a result of global warming.</p>
<p>Biden also plugged his huge investment plans -- in particular to repair or upgrade the crumbling US infrastructure -- which have yet to be approved by Congress.</p>

<p>About 600 Taliban have been killed in Afghanistan's northeastern province of Panjshir, Sputnik reported quoting the Afghan resistance forces on Saturday.</p>
<p>"About 600 Taliban have been liquidated in various districts of Panjshir since morning. More than 1,000 Taliban have been captured or surrendered themselves," the resistance forces' spokesperson Fahim Dashti tweeted.</p>
<p>The spokesperson further added that the Taliban had problems with getting supplies from other Afghan provinces, Sputnik reported.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Taliban offensive against Panjshir resistance forces has slowed down due to the presence of land mines in the area.</p>
<p>A Taliban source said fighting is continuing in Panjshir but the advance had been slowed by landmines on the road to the capital Bazarak and the provincial governor's compound, reported Al Jazeera.</p>
<p>Panjshir is the stronghold of the National Resistance Front, led by Ahmad Massoud, the son of late ex-Afghan guerrilla commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, and ex-Vice President Amrullah Saleh, who had declared himself caretaker President.</p>
<p>In Panjshir, former Vice-President Amrullah Saleh holed out alongside Ahmad Massoud, admitted the perilous position of the National Resistance Front.</p>
<p>"The situation is difficult, we have been under invasion," Mr Saleh earlier said in a video message. "The resistance is continuing and will continue."</p>

<p>Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday said the world should engage with Afghanistan to address humanitarian needs and provide economic stability to prevent a refugee crisis in the war-torn country.</p>
<p>Imran Khan spoke with Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres over the telephone and the two leaders discussed the developments in Afghanistan, with a particular focus on the humanitarian situation.</p>
<p>According to a statement by the Prime Minister's Office, Imran Khan underscored the need for the international community to become more engaged with Afghanistan, according urgent priority to addressing the humanitarian needs and ensuring economic stability.</p>
<p>"Such steps would not only reinforce security but also preclude any mass exodus of Afghans from their country, thus preventing a refugee crisis in Afghanistan," he said.</p>
<p>Imran Khan highlighted the importance of peace, stability, and an inclusive political settlement in Afghanistan, stressing that the opportunity to finally put an end to 40 years of conflict in the country must be seized by enabling the Afghans to achieve lasting peace, security, and prosperity, the statement said.</p>
<p>He appreciated the vital role of the UN in delivering much-needed humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people and highlighted the facilitation being provided by Pakistan to the UN, including by assisting in the evacuation and relocation efforts.</p>
<p>Assuring Antonio Guterres of Pakistan's continued cooperation with the UN in the fulfilment of its mandate, Imran Khan reaffirmed Pakistan's full support for the smooth operation of the United Nations' humanitarian mission for Afghanistan, the statement said.</p>

<p>Taliban and opposition forces battled on Saturday to control the Panjshir Valley north of Kabul, the last Afghan province holding out against the Islamist group, with both sides claiming to have the upper hand without producing conclusive evidence. The Taliban, which took power in the rest of the country three weeks ago, were never able to control the valley when they last ruled Afghanistan, from 1996 to 2001.Taliban spokesman Bilal Karimi said the districts of Khinj and Unabah had been taken, giving Taliban forces control of four of the province's seven districts</p>
<p>"The Mujahideen (Taliban fighters) are advancing toward the centre (of the province)," he said on Twitter. But the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, grouping forces loyal to local leader Ahmad Massoud, said it surrounded "thousands of terrorists" in Khawak pass and the Taliban had abandoned vehicles and equipment in the Dashte Rewak area.Front spokesman Fahim Dashti added "heavy clashes" were going on. Earlier, a Taliban source said the Taliban's advance was slowed by landmines placed on the road to the provincial capital, Bazarak. It was not immediately possible to get independent confirmation of events in Panjshir, which is walled off by mountains except for a narrow entrance. Celebratory gunfire resounded in Kabul on Friday as reports spread of the Taliban's takeover of Panjshir, and news agencies said at least 17 people were killed and 41 hurt in the firing</p>
<p><strong>PAKISTAN'S SPY CHIEF</strong></p>
<p>Pakistan's spy chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed flew into Kabul on Saturday. It was not clear what his agenda was, but a senior official in Pakistan said earlier in the week that Hameed, who heads the powerful Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, could help the Taliban reorganise the Afghan military. Washington has accused Pakistan and the ISI of backing the Taliban in the group's two-decade fight against the US-backed government in Kabul, although Islamabad has denied the charges. In Kabul, Taliban fighters broke up a demonstration by about a dozen women urging the group to respect women's rights to education and jobs, according to private broadcaster Tolo news. Footage showed women confronted by armed militants covering their mouths and coughing, and one demonstrator said the fighters had used tear gas and tasers against the participants, who had been carrying banners and a bouquet of flowers. "They also hit women on the head with a gun magazine," said a demonstrator who gave her name as Soraya.The Taliban imposed violent punishments and barred women and older girls from school and work when they were previously in power, but have sought to present a more moderate face this time.</p>
<p><strong>GOVERNMENT NEXT WEEK</strong></p>
<p>The Taliban source also said the announcement of a new government would be pushed back to the next week. Taliban co-founder Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, reported by some Taliban sources to be in line to lead the new government, said in remarks on Qatar's Al Jazeera channel that the new administration "will include all factions of the Afghan people"</p>
<p>"We are doing our utmost efforts to improve their living conditions. The government will provide security, because it is necessary for economic development," he said</p>
<p>Meanwhile, some signs of normality returned to Kabul. Qatar's ambassador to Afghanistan said a technical team was able to reopen Kabul airport to receive aid, according to Al Jazeera, which also cited its correspondent as saying domestic flights had restarted.</p>

<p>30 completed the evacuations of more than 120,000 US citizens, other foreigners and Afghans deemed at risk from the Taliban, and withdrew the last of its troops.</p>
