<div><img class="ff-og-image-inserted" src="https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/thumbor/9K28-ZbaozJa4FumvnPxNDZgsxI=/0x0:4032x2111/fit-in/1200x630/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/22786556/1234717851.jpg" /></div> <p>Nearly three months after President Joe Biden announced <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/4/25/22402539/afghanistan-military-withdrawal-final-biden-september-11th">US troops would begin withdrawing</a> from Afghanistan, the Taliban quickly began a takeover of provinces across the county, ultimately leading up to Kabul, the capital city.</p> <p>This movement by the <a href="https://www.vox.com/22626240/taliban-afganistan-baradar">Islamist militant group</a> is hardly a surprise to experts.</p> <p>“Half of the country slipped out of the government’s control in the last three months, and it no longer had a buffer protecting those provincial capitals,” analyst Andrew Watkins <a href="https://www.vox.com/22618215/afghanistan-news-taliban-advance">told Vox’s Jen Kirby</a>.</p> <p>Since May, the local government had lost or abandoned more than 200 of the 400 districts in Afghanistan, leaving many of them to fall to Taliban control. Taliban fighters in remote villages and outposts have used misinformation campaigns and fear-mongering to scare away local residents and intimidate Afghan government officials. This, coupled with a political division over support of the group, has left Afghanistan’s government at a loss.</p> <p>The Taliban swiftly acquired more territories, including important border cities and trade routes, and then took over major cities, including Kabul, which was the last government stronghold. Low interest rates and millennials’ entry into the market <a href="https://www.vox.com/22464801/housing-bubble-market-crash-supply-shortage-great-recession">spiked demand across the nation</a>, leading housing prices to <a href="https://www.spglobal.com/spdji/en/documents/indexnews/announcements/20210629-1407760/1407760_cshomeprice-release-0629.pdf">increase by more than 20 percent</a> in some cities.</p> <p>But while this year was unique in many ways, and demand is a big part of the story, what’s often ignored is the biggest reason it’s increasingly difficult for Americans to find affordable housing: We don’t have enough houses. <a href="http://www.freddiemac.com/research/insight/20210507_housing_supply.page">According to one estimate</a>, we are now facing a shortage of nearly 4 million homes in the United States. And the primary reason for that shortage? Exclusionary zoning.</p> <p>Zoning laws are the rules and regulations that decide what types of homes can be built where. While this can be innocuous, exclusionary zoning is anything but. These rules have a <a href="https://www.vox.com/22252625/america-racist-housing-rules-how-to-fix">dark history in the United States</a> as a tool of racial and economic segregation, used explicitly to keep certain races, religions, and nationalities out of certain neighborhoods. And while the explicit racism has been wiped from the legal text, the effect of many of these rules remains the same: to keep affordable housing, and the people who need it, away from the wealthiest Americans. In the majority of the country, and particularly in cities with good jobs, it’s illegal to build more affordable types of housing, and that’s created a widespread affordability crisis. New Zealand Prime Minister Orders Citizens: “Don’t Talk to Your Neighbors”

If we get to that stage, then we won’t hesitate. Biden Authorizes $500 Million For Afghan Refugees While Macron Worries About Up To 3 Million Flooding Europe

<p><strong>Joe Biden has authorized a further $500 million dollars to relocate Afghan refugees, while French President Emmanuel Macron is concerned about up to 3 million of them arriving in Europe.</strong></p> <p>After the Taliban completed its takeover of Afghanistan, concerns about millions of displaced people flooding the west as happened during the civil war in Syria intensified.</p> <p>“President Biden has allocated $500 million in additional funds for relocating Afghan refugees, including applicants for Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs), in response to the Taliban’s swift takeover of the country,” reports <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/568125-biden-authorizes-500m-more-for-afghan-refugee-relocation">the Hill</a>.</p> <p>“The funds were announced by the White House late Monday to meet “unexpected urgent refugee and migration needs” and for “the purpose of meeting unexpected urgent refugee and migration needs of refugees, victims of conflict, and other persons at risk as a result of the situation in Afghanistan.”</p> <p>The United States has already promised to evacuate 80,000 Afghans who have worked in some capacity for the U.S. or other international organizations.</p> <p>There were no details on how the Biden administration plans to vet countless “refugees” entering America for terrorist sympathies, with the Department of Homeland Security seemingly <a href="https://uk.news.yahoo.com/9-11-anniversary-covid-19-182239820.html">more concerned</a> about characterizing American citizens who oppose COVID lockdown measures as violent extremists.</p> <p>After the 2015 refugee wave, where over a million Middle Eastern migrants entered Europe, the continent was hit by rising violent crime rates, mass sexual assaults, and numerous terror attacks, including the Paris massacre, the perpetrators of which entered Europe by <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/02/majority-of-paris-attackers-used-migration-routes-to-enter-europ/">posing</a> as refugees.</p> <p>Experts have predicted that as many as 3 million Afghan refugees could enter Europe in the near future.</p> <p>[embedded content]</p> <p>“We can assume that up to three million Afghans will make their way to Europe in the foreseeable future,” German humanitarian development worker Sybille Schnehage <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2021/08/11/afghanistan-fallout-could-lead-to-three-million-migrants-trying-to-reach-europe/">told</a> German broadcaster WDR on Sunday.</p> <p>“I always ask people: Why don’t you go to Saudi Arabia? They are Muslims. This is your culture.
