Fact Check – What are the risks of getting the Covid-19 injection?

<p><strong>The original inventor of the mRNA vaccine (and DNAvaccine) core platform technology currently used to create the vaccines is <a href="https://trialsitenews.com/bioethics-of-experimental-covid-vaccine-deployment-under-eua-its-time-we-stop-and-look-at-whats-going-down/">Dr Robert W Malone</a> .</strong></p>
<p>Dr Malone has been expressing serious concerns about how therapeutic approaches that are still in the research phase are being imposed on an ill-informed public.</p>
<p>He says that public health leadership has, “stepped over the line and is now violating the bedrock principles which form the foundation upon which the ethics of clinical research are built”.</p>
<p>Dr Malone asks why health leaders seem to be so afraid of sharing the adverse event data. He says, “Why is it necessary to suppress discussion and full disclosure of information concerning mRNA reactogenicity and safety risks?”</p>
<p>He goes onto say that we should be analysing the safety data and risks vigorously. Again he asks, “Is there information or patterns that can be found, such as the recent finding of the cardiomyopathy signals, or the latent virus reactivation signals?  We should be enlisting the best biostatistics and machine learning experts to examine these data, and the results should- no must- be made available to the public promptly”.</p>
<p>For any drug it has always been important to have systems in place for monitoring adverse events. However, for an experimental, genetic modifying approach that has not been fully tested, and where the public are effectively the guinea pigs, this information should be immediately and readily available.</p>
<p>As previously <a href="https://www.totalhealth.co.uk/blog/what-deaths-covid-19-vaccines-and-side-effects-are-being-reported">reported in Total Health</a>, the fact that it is so difficult to access and make sense of the <a href="https://vaers.hhs.gov/">US VAERS</a>, and UK Yellow Card reporting systems – along with low reporting simply raises further concern about what is actually happening.</p>
<h3>Global analysis </h3>
<p>According to the official summary yellow card reporting website, “Vaccination is the single most effective way to reduce deaths and severe illness from COVID-19. A national immunisation campaign has been underway since early December 2020”.</p>
<p>However, as <a href="https://www.totalhealth.co.uk/blog/readily-available-medical-solution-pandemic">widely reported in 2020</a> and following a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j7am9kjMrk">meta-analysis</a> of work performed by doctors around the world treating Covid patients, the drug Ivermectin could well have been a more effective and safer alternative to experimental genetic modification.</p>
<p>In podcasts with Lex Friman and with Joe Rogan, research biologist Bret Weinstein clearly explains the situation with regard to research, biology and censorship – <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG6BuSjwP4o">Truth, Science, and Censorship in the Time of a Pandemic</a>.</p>
<h3>Truth is always the first victim</h3>
<p>Bret Weinstein points out that, “Public Health has a self-assigned ‘right to lie'”.</p>
<p>He states, “Once the right to lie exists it serves the purposes of the pharmaceutical companies. Emergency authorisations that do not require the treatment to be safe.</p>
<p>“This means they get immunity from liability for harms caused by their product. That’s a recipe for disaster”.</p>
<p>He goes on to make the point that it is to even greater benefit to the pharmaceutical companies if other products (such as Ivermectin) happen to fail to be noticed.</p>
<h3>Block on information on treatments</h3>
<p><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAHi3lX3oGM">Dr Peter McCullough</a> testifying to a Texas Senate Committee asks why COVID patients are not being offered information on – or standard treatments that can prevent hospitalisation and death.</p>
<p>He says, not a single paper tells doctors how to treat patients. “Not a single one. When does that happen?”.</p>
<p>He goes on to point out that the reason why there had to be senate testimony is because there was, “a near total block on any information on treatment for patients”.</p>
<h3>Selective under-reporting, re-defining and excessive exaggeration with amplification </h3>
<p>The UK government <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-adverse-reactions/coronavirus-vaccine-summary-of-yellow-card-reporting">Coronavirus vaccine – weekly summary</a> of Yellow Card reporting (to 16th June) starts the report with the following sentence: “At the time of this report, over 127,954 people across the UK have died within 28 days of a positive test for coronavirus (COVID-19)”.</p>
<p>This opening statement is probably an example of the nature of the difficulty that Dr Weinstein refers to. The problem with this statement is that you are lead to believe that 127,954 people have died of Covid, but this is simply not true.</p>
<p>The reality is that these people have died with a positive test for COVID-19, which is a very different thing, and may well have died of other natural causes.</p>
<p>We know that the PCR tests have suffered <a href="https://www.totalhealth.co.uk/blog/test-caused-pandemic">high levels of false positives</a> and a test positive does not mean you have active disease or are a ‘case’.</p>
<p>Because of this PCR tests are to be withdrawn in the USA – <a href="https://www.totalhealth.co.uk/blog/cdc-issue-lab-alert-pcr-tests">CDC issue ‘lab alert’ on PCR tests</a> – but not until 2022.</p>
<h3>What is the false positive rate?</h3>
<p>By re-defining the medical term ‘case’, the daily public health messages became excessively exaggerated and this along with other methodologies (including excessive PCR Ct amplification), ramped up levels of public concern.</p>
<p>Official public petitions requesting that the government release the data on the levels of false positive reporting were simply not adequately responded to.</p>
<h3>The big questions remain unanswered – and these are:</h3>
<h3>How many people actually died from Covid ‘the disease’? and</h3>
<h3>How many people are being harmed by the vaccines? </h3>
<p>Dr Malone says, “.. what is being done by suppressing open disclosure and debate concerning the profile of adverse events associated with these vaccines violates fundamental bioethical principles for clinical research”.</p>
<p>With regard to the use and abuse of misinformation, the inventor of these vaccines says that the public have to be given accurate information to allow informed consent.</p>
<p>He says, “The suppression of information, discussion, and outright censorship concerning these current COVID vaccines which are based on gene therapy technologies cast a bad light on the entire vaccine enterprise.</p>
<p>“It is my opinion that the adult public can handle information and open discussion. Furthermore, we must fully disclose any and all risks associated with these experimental research products”.</p>
<p>In short, it is simply not possible to arrive at a position of <a href="https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/consent-to-treatment/">informed consent</a> unless you have access to the full facts around your options and the associated risks and benefits.</p>
<p>In a paper published in <a href="https://www.aacc.org/science-and-research/scientific-shorts/2020/false-positive-results-in-real-time-reverse-transcription-polymeras">aacc.org</a>, Professor Stanley Levinson et al summarise some of the evidence concerning the false positive testing rates with PCR.</p>
<p>At an individual patient level he points out why some people ‘seem’ to get the disease twice, but the second infection was actually caused by the initial false positive result. He indicates that as many as 5 in100 test results are false positives.</p>
<p>This may not seem like a big number, but when you are testing 100,000 people a day this would give a number of 5,000 so-called ‘cases’ a day. Sound familiar?</p>
<h3>False positive tests cause hospitalisation and infection</h3>
<p><a href="https://www.aacc.org/science-and-research/scientific-shorts/bios/l-to-s/stanley-s,-d-,-levinson">Prof Levinson</a> points out that there are negative psychological implications of thinking you are infected when you are not.</p>
<p>Therefore some people with illness other than COVID-19 who test false positive might be hospitalised along with actual COVID-19 patients and become infected.</p>
<p>“This may explain why some persons seem to have been infected twice: the first time being a false positive.</p>
<p>“It seems to me it is important for practicing medical professionals to be aware of these issues so that they can appropriately advise and direct suspect patients for additional testing”.</p>
<h3>Natural immunity may over-rule need for vaccine anyway</h3>
<p>According to a recent peer-reviewed paper in the journal <em><a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-92521-4">Nature</a></em>, “findings suggest that SARS-CoV-2 reactive T-cells are likely to be present in many individuals because of prior exposure to flu and CMV viruses”.</p>
<p>This probably explains why Covid primarily affects the elderly and patients with co-morbidities, and is either asymptomatic or has mild symptoms for the rest of us.</p>
<p>The authors state, “Healthy humans not exposed to COVID-19 show pre-existing CD4 and CD8 T-cellimmunity to SARS-CoV-2”.</p>
<p>This cross-immunity is possibly not too surprising as the common cold is caused by a coronavirus”.</p>
<h3>Are vaccinated more likely to drive variant evolution?</h3>
<p>The <a href="https://www.hartgroup.org/unvaccinated-as-variant-factories/">HART</a> group are informing us that several media outlets in the UK have simultaneously released a story alleging that, “unvaccinated people are risking their own health and will become potential factories of coronavirus variants”.</p>
<p>Commenting on these news items, <a href="https://www.hartgroup.org/unvaccinated-as-variant-factories/">Dr Gerry Quinn</a> who is a post-doctoral Researcher in Microbiology and Immunology (and therefore appropriately qualified to comment), points out that the reverse is more likely to be true.</p>
<p>He says, “there is the as yet unproven (but not discounted) theoretical possibility that vaccination may be making the situation of ‘mutant variants’ worse”.</p>
<p>The reason for this is that natural immunity, which is now estimated to be at <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41590-020-00808-x.pdf">over 80%</a> provides a far broader protection as it is not narrowed to a reaction to just the spike protein.</p>
<p>Providing the relevant references, Dr Quinn highlights a recent study of people who developed natural immunity during the first wave of SARS-CoV-2 showing that their plasma contains four antibodies that are extremely potent against 23 variants of SARS including variants of concern.</p>
<p>To add to this protection, it is even thought that the innate immune system which is the first line of defence against disease can be trained to have a decreased activation threshold to new pathogens that are structurally similar to those that have been encountered previously.</p>
<p>Dr Quinn then explains how unfortunately many of the novel COVID vaccines are designed to evade most of the innate immune system so they will not prime this process.</p>
<p>The importance of the innate immune system can be seen in people who have deficiencies in the production of interferon, an important signalling compound in the innate immune system. People with this deficiency have higher rates of severe illness and death.</p>
<p>“Natural immunity is superior to vaccination-induced immunity because it includes the innate immune defences as well as specific immunity which is directed at multiple parts of the virus and not just the spike protein targeted by vaccine-induced immunity”.</p>
<h3>How can the vaccine cause herpes?</h3>
<p>One of the post-vaccination reported side effects has been ‘herpes infection’. A recent paper from a group of Oxford researchers published in the journal <em><a href="https://academic.oup.com/rheumatology/advance-article/doi/10.1093/rheumatology/keab345/6225015">Rheumatology</a></em> explains how this could happen.</p>
<p><em>Varicella zoster</em> virus (VZV) is the virus responsible for shingles and is a type of herpes virus. These viruses are known to lurk in our nerve cells awaiting an opportunistic moment to reactivate. <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15603217/">Sunburn</a> is a well known cause of herpes virus reactivation, and is often associated with cold sores.</p>
<p>Cell-mediated immunity plays an important role in the prevention of VZV reactivation, and so any interferences (such as mRNA vaccines) with this process could trigger the reactivation of other viral infections.</p>
<p>However, as the authors state, “While the causality between both events cannot be proved based on a small number of cases, further vigilance and safety monitoring of COVID-19 vaccination side effects is warranted”.</p>
<h3>Summary of vaccine safety data</h3>
<p>In a <a href="https://lockdownsceptics.org/2021/07/01/vaccine-safety-update-7/">summary of the vaccine safety</a> update, Dr Tess Lawrie recently wrote an <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="http://medisolve.org/yellowcard_urgentprelimreport.pdf" target="_blank">open letter</a> to Dr June Raine, head of the MHRA, arguing that: “The MHRA now has more than enough evidence on the Yellow Card system to declare the COVID-19 vaccines unsafe for use in humans”.</p>
<p>Only via the provision and publication of these reviews can readers reach their own conclusions about what is best for them (informed consent), based on the available data.</p>
<h3>Senior international microbiologists urge caution</h3>
<p>One of the most cited international microbiologists, Professor Bhakdi has issued a video explaining the good news – as reported in the latest scientific publications – that there are already very high levels of population immunity to coronaviruses.</p>
<p>This is largely due to the broad cross-reactivity of our immune systems to different strains (with shared antigenic sites), and also thanks to natural immune memory.</p>
<p>However, he also has major concerns about the dangers of vaccine-induced bloodclotting, and he explains why – see video:</p>

<h3>New guidance issued on <a href="https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/NG200">post-COVID vaccine blood clots</a></h3>
<p>The medical term for these new form of blood clots is VITT, which stands for vaccine-induced immune thrombocytopenia and thrombosis, or sometimes also called vaccine-induced prothrombotic immune thrombocytopenia (VIPIT) or thrombotic thrombocytopenic syndrome (TTS).</p>
<p>The National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) say, “Because VITT is a new condition, there is limited evidence available to inform clinical management, identification and management of the condition is evolving quickly as the case definition becomes clearer. This guideline was produced to support clinicians to diagnose and manage this newly recognised syndrome”.</p>
<p>The new guidance recommends that people with suspected VITT are referred to the emergency department immediately.</p>

<p>Renz requested Dr. Breggin prepare a report to file as evidence.  <a href="https://breggin.com/dr-breggins-covid-19-totalitarianism-legal-report/">Dr. Breggin’s ‘<em>COVID-19 Totalitarianism Legal Report</em>‘</a> was a 128-page report which was the beginnings of what became his book, ‘<a href="https://www.wearetheprey.com/"><em>Covid-19 And The Global Predators: We Are The Prey</em></a>’. A copy of the manuscript can be ordered for free until the book is available to purchase later this year.  “[One] reason we wanted to put out the manuscript early [is if they] shoot us – [at least] the manuscript’s out,” said Dr. Breggin.</p>

<p>Dr. Breggin discussed some aspects of his book during an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOMm-Z2xRfY">interview with the Corona Investigative Committee</a> on 28 July 2021. Covid-19 is about eugenics, genocide and transhumanism.  “What has happened is that a group of very predatory people got together with many different predatory groups, and organizations of different ideologies, and then without asking anybody’s permission whatsoever – extra [or beyond] government, beyond the church, beyond the judiciaries – went ahead and planned a pandemic under which: they could take over governance of the world, gain in their wealth, exploit humanity, and, impose their ideology,” he explains.</p>
<p>What started Dr. Breggin’s investigation is when he discovered the USA, under Fauci’s direction, was funding research in China.  He discovered a scientific article that showed that it the USA was effectively funding weapons of biological warfare.  He alerted his fellow psychiatrists in the USA, the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe but nobody took any notice.  He was able to get the information to President Trump and two days later <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11590025/coronavirus-research-ecohealth-alliance-trump-cut-funding/">the funding arrangement that Fauci had with the Chinese scientists was cancelled</a>.</p>
<p>“Another thing that’s so important is that … anything about Klaus Schwab is also about [Bill] Gates,” Dr. Breggin says, “It’s been surprising how close they are.  They’re very different people and Klaus isn’t even a multi-billionaire really, [or] maybe he has it secretly.</p>
<p>“Schwab in his book ‘<em>Covid-19: The Great Reset</em>’ does what I do in ‘<em>Covid-19 and The Global Predators</em>’, he outlines how Trump is a threat, how patriotism is a threat, how the democratic republics are a threat.”</p>
<p>Dr Breggin explains how Schwab is worried about anything that looks like democracy: the UK and Brexit, Western Europe and Germany in particular, “they just they had to knock off anything that looked like a democratic republic.”  And, of course USA, if it became or remained a patriotic democratic republic, would not allow China and the Globalists to succeed.</p>
<p>Dr. Breggin explains how all the top USA billionaires, all the top tech companies, for example: Microsoft, Amazon, and other giant corporations have significant Chinese investments and connections including big pharma, BioNTech is in partnership with a Chinese corporation and Pfizer has a connection with China. There’s a common pattern of all these Western billionaires and corporations speaking in defence of China and against, for example, the US.</p>
<p>In China anything that is “civil” and of importance is under military control, this is the “military-civil fusion concept”.  The Wuhan Institute of Virology, for example, is under the Chinese military and is run by a military officer.  Another important concept in China is the “unrestricted warfare concept”.  China feels it is in unrestricted war with the USA which means anything that’s done to win is ethical, and only failure is unethical.</p>
<p>Li-Meng Yan is a Chinese doctor, scientist, and virologist.  She was working in Hong Kong when she fled to the USA a few years ago. Since arriving in the USA, she has published three papers together with two Chinese colleagues. Yan has stated unequivocally that the virus was released intentionally as unrestricted warfare by the People’s Liberation Army or “PLA”, and ultimately the Chinese Communist Party or “CCP”.</p>
<p>Yan says that it’s well known in China, and it’s been discussed as well known, that the virus was created through the military branches of the Wuhan lab.  Dr. Breggin recalls a conversation he had with Yan while waiting for participants to join a virtual conference:</p>
<p>Breggin:  I’m beginning to think you’re right that that this thing was planned.  But the puzzle to me, is why would they unleash it in China?  I mean, well, it had to have been a mistake, didn’t it?</p>
<p>Yan: Well, no.  You know of course, that there have been at least four releases in China accidentally, one in one in Singapore, and one in Hong Kong. There have been six releases not counting the current one and not counting SARS-CoV-1, which may have been released in China, which would make eight.  Do you know how fast they stopped those releases?</p>
<p>Breggin: Oh yeah.  I mean, they immediately reported every release to the World Health Organization.  They got on top of it, they tracked – they were all people who caught it in the lab. A few people died but they shut it down real fast.</p>
<p>Yan: Yes.  The Chinese have a government that can shut these things down instantly when they begin. They let this go.  So, it was planned.</p>
<p>It’s about world domination and the Chinese have made very clear one thing stands in their way – the USA being the world’s police.  “They’re going to continue to undermine the USA. That’s been their plan.  That’s been the plan of Fauci, it’s been the plan of Klaus Schwab, of Gates. And then if they do that, if they succeed, China will take over the world and they will eat the globalists alive,” Dr. Breggin said.</p>
<p>Dr. Breggin goes on to describe the purpose, the attendees and the “virtual signalling” of a virtual conference held by Michael Bloomberg in November 2020. A conference co-sponsored by a Chinese communist organisation and which had as one of the main introductory speakers, the Vice President of China.</p>
<p>“[The Globalists] think that they will govern the world, working through WHO and China … they’re going to exploit the world – that is they’re going to bring predatory capitalism with a veneer of predatory socialism or Marxism to the world – and they’re going to get richer and richer,” Dr. Breggin said.</p>
<p>He explained further, “the inner circle of the Marxists want to be the emperors of the world. They’re bringing to two traditions together: the emperors, and, Hitler-Stalin-Mao.  They want to extend these principles of total control.”</p>
<p>There is no social security system in China – the saying is “you’re born alone and you die alone” – and the government expects families, as is the Chinese tradition, to take care of their elders.  <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5944611/">Most Chinese elderly people lack pensions and are largely dependent on their children for financial support</a>. With the implementation of China’s one-child policy there are now too few children to provide for their ageing parents. </p>
<p>According to Dr. Breggin the virus was the perfect weapon to release in China as “they have no compunction about killing off “useless eaters”. They have no compunction about killing off the people to harvest organs.  They have goals rather than compunctions.  And so, by releasing this in China enabled them to not only vastly increase the power of the party but they killed an awful lot of old folks.”</p>

An interview with Dr Robert Malone

<p><strong>Robert W Malone MD, was at the Salk Institute in 1987 and 1988. There, he pioneered in-vitro RNA transfection and also in-vivo RNA transfection in frog embryos, as well as mice. Malone’s research was then continued at Vical in 1989, where the first rat experiments were designed by him.</strong></p>
<p>Dr. Malone carried on his research into mRNA vaccination during the 1990s, culminating in a mucosal patent that was issued in 2000. He also helped revolutiionise the field of cationic liposomes for the use in RNA vaccinations, work that was far ahead of its time.</p>
<p>However, Dr Malone does not agree with the roll-out of the current mRNA Covid-19 vaccines by Pfizer and Moderna and has been very outspoken about them over the past couple of months.</p>

VIDEO – Man arrested and banned from flying due to not wearing a mask despite police illegally ringing his Doctor to prove his exemption

<p><strong>Shocking footage of two tyrannical police officers harassing, assaulting, and then fraudulently charging a man who was not wearing a face covering has been released.</strong></p>
<p>The incident took place at an airport in Australia where the man was sitting with his friend having a beer whilst waiting to board a flight. Two police officers then harass the man due to him not wearing a face covering which is a legal requirement unless exempt in Australia.</p>
<p>The man, who was wearing a lanyard saying he is medically exempt, also told the officers that he was medically exempt at which point they illegally asked for evidence. They then removed him from the airport and rang his Doctor.</p>
<p>The Doctor confirmed to the police that the man was in fact medically exempt, however that information should not have been released due to it being confidential. The man did not give permission for the doctor to talk about his medical record.</p>
<p>Despite the doctor confirming the man was exempt the police then decided to tell the airline that the man was not fit to fly and told him he would be arrested and charged, but they could not tell him what they were charging him for and told him they would decide that back at the station.</p>
<p>Outrageously the police then state in the recorded interview at the station that they did not believe they had been given any information from a doctor.</p>

Federal eviction protections have ended, leaving renters scrambling

<p>It’s August 1, and rent is due. That’s a big change for many Americans who had been unable to pay rent but were protected from eviction by a federal moratorium. Now, those protections are gone.</p>
<p>Due to rampant job loss and health risks, many renters in the US faced difficulty making their rent payments every month when the pandemic began in early 2020, and the federal government stepped in to prevent people from getting evicted in the midst of it. As part of this response, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention instituted a moratorium in September 2020 that prevented landlords from evicting their tenants regardless of whether they could pay their monthly rent in full or at all.</p>
<p>Last month the moratorium was already on borrowed time, as the Supreme Court had warned that it would not extend the renter protection <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/6/30/22556498/supreme-court-alabama-association-realtors-hhs-brett-kavanaugh-eviction-moratorium-housing-covid">past the end of July</a>. Several justices including Justice Brett Kavanaugh <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/us-house-take-up-residential-eviction-moratorium-extension-2021-07-30/">supported this</a>. “In my view, clear and specific congressional authorization (via new legislation) would be necessary for the CDC to extend the moratorium past July 31,” <a href="https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/us-house-take-up-residential-eviction-moratorium-extension-2021-07-30/">wrote Kavanaugh</a>. The Biden administration did challenge the Supreme Court decision by formally asking Congress to pass an extension, but as Congress was required to pass new legislation to do this and since the Biden administration’s request was filed on Thursday, two days before the program was set to expire, the moratorium has officially expired.</p>
<h2>No more eviction protection means paying late rent, money renters don’t have</h2>
<p>This changes a lot for renters who now have to reckon with their landlords, some of whom have not received regular rent for almost a year. <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2021/08/01/rent-eviction-moratorium-ended/5447489001/">Renters are now required to pay any missed payments</a>, and in some states the landlord is owed late fees for any late payment since the moratorium was enacted. Utilities are a bit of a gray area, but generally if the landlord is responsible for paying for a certain utility, in most cases they are not permitted to turn it off.</p>
<p>Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) was at the forefront of the fight for a further moratorium extension. As a formerly homeless person who has also faced eviction in the past, she has been vocal about the need to extend the moratorium, and slept on the US Capitol steps on Friday night in protest. “I am dirty, sticky, sweaty. I still have on what I had on last night. This is how people will have to live if we don’t do something … they deserve human dignity and deserve for people that represent them to show up, do the work, to make sure basic needs are met today,” she told <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/31/politics/cori-bush-eviction-moratorium-cnntv/index.html">CNN’s Jessica Dean</a> on Saturday.</p>

<p>According to <a href="https://www.aspeninstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Evictions-Data-Update-August.pdf">a study</a> by the Aspen Institute and the Covid-19 Eviction Defense Project published in August of last year, nearly 40 million Americans were then at risk of eviction. People of color were, and still remain, disproportionately at risk as they are <a href="https://www.aspeninstitute.org/blog-posts/the-covid-19-eviction-crisis-an-estimated-30-40-million-people-in-america-are-at-risk/">twice as likely</a> to be renters. And the pressures that Covid-19 added just worsened the statistics. <a href="https://www.bostonevictions.org/">A June report</a> by City Life/Vida Urbana and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that in the first month of Massachusetts’s state of emergency during the pandemic, 78 percent of eviction filings in Boston were in <a href="https://www.aspeninstitute.org/blog-posts/the-covid-19-eviction-crisis-an-estimated-30-40-million-people-in-america-are-at-risk/">communities of color</a>.</p>
<p>People with lower-income households are also more at risk, as they are less likely to have savings to pay rent and more likely to have been employed in <a href="https://www.vox.com/22429430/renters-rent-relief-eviction-moratorium-housing-market">Covid-affected industries</a>. The moratorium aimed to help people like this who needed protection.</p>
<p>But although politicians like Cori Bush are fighting to bring the moratorium back, it was never a complete solution: renters would eventually have to start paying again whether their individual circumstances had changed or not, while landlords were also struggling to make ends meet without rental income.</p>
<p>In an attempt to remedy this, <a href="https://www.vox.com/22429430/renters-rent-relief-eviction-moratorium-housing-market">Congress allocated $25 billion</a> in rental assistance in December, and in March, another $21.5 billion was added. This was a welcome relief to tenants and landlords alike, but the problem was in getting the money to the people who needed it, quickly. Confusion at the federal level about how to distribute that amount of money, and which of numerous programs would handle distribution, has also slowed getting the aid out. As Vox’s Jerusalem Demsas has reported, many renters in need of aid simply did not know that they were eligible for rent relief, and if they did, some were <a href="https://www.vox.com/22429430/renters-rent-relief-eviction-moratorium-housing-market">unable to provide the necessary paperwork</a> because of their turbulent living circumstances, lack of formal documentation of their work, or nontraditional rental agreements.</p>
<h2>Renters were unsure if rent relief money would get to them in time</h2>
<p>While <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy0284">more than $1.5 billion</a> was delivered to eligible applicants in the month of June, which exceeded the amount provided in all three previous reporting periods combined, only <a href="https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2021-07-30/federal-eviction-moratorium-biden-congress-next-steps">$3 billion of the total</a> $45 billion allocated has been distributed, according to the US Treasury. Now that the federal moratorium has expired, at least four states — Massachusetts, Nevada, New York, and Oregon — have temporarily <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/30/everything-you-need-to-know-about-applying-for-rental-assistance-.html">continued the ban on evictions</a> against those with a pending rental assistance application. This state decision will give renters time to receive their rent relief money when they might otherwise face eviction immediately. But renters in states that are following the expired federal moratorium face large sums of back rent and if they are unable to pay, possible eviction.</p>
<p>“There’s a lot of cases where tenants are getting evicted that have already been approved for rental assistance,” K’Lisha Rutledge, an attorney with Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas, <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2021/07/30/texas-eviction-rent-relief/">told the Texas Tribune</a>. “And their landlord knows that they’ve been approved, and they’re just waiting on the check.”</p>
<p>It might be easy to see landlords as the villains in this situation, but tenants aren’t the only ones struggling. <a href="https://www.hud.gov/press/press_releases_media_advisories/HUD_No_20_071">Forty-one percent</a> of all rental housing units in the US, and most of the affordable housing options, are owned by individuals, or “mom-and-pop” landlords, and the rent they receive from their tenants is often a large part of their own income. This means that the moratorium alleviated pressure from tenants by creating more pressure on landlords who still need to pay their own bills.</p>
<p>As Vox’s <a href="https://www.vox.com/22160179/study-covid-19-eviction-moratoriums-deaths-cases-coronavirus-rent-stimulus-state-congress">Jerusalem Demsas wrote</a>:</p>

<p>“Losing more of America’s already dwindling affordable housing stock is a looming emergency that could be exacerbated if small landlords are required to act as the social welfare state without any financial assistance.”</p>

<p>The end of the moratorium potentially means money in landlords’ pockets, but there are still roadblocks. California is allowing landlords to get paid what they are owed from previous months without rent only <a href="https://housing.ca.gov/covid_rr/media_kit_20210315.pdf">if they waive 20 percent</a> of the back rent. And some landlords have taken such a hit that they will be forced to sell their property, eliminating the opportunity to continue renting as a future source of income.</p>
<p>With <a href="https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#vaccinations">over 50 percent</a> of the US population vaccinated, it may seem that now is an appropriate time to end the benefits of the moratorium. But Americans who took a financial hit during the peak of Covid-19 or who lost their job may still need support. The rise of the Covid-19 delta variant is also a concern, as <a href="https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3739576">research has shown</a> that evictions lead to a higher likelihood of Covid-19 infection and death.</p>
<p>Concerns about the delta variant were also the main reason for the Biden administration’s push for a moratorium extension. “Given the recent spread of the Delta variant, including among those Americans both most likely to face evictions and lacking vaccinations, President Biden would have strongly supported a decision by the CDC to further extend this eviction moratorium to protect renters at this moment of heightened vulnerability,” the <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/07/29/statement-by-white-house-press-secretary-jen-psaki-on-biden-harris-administration-eviction-prevention-efforts/">White House said in a statement</a>.</p>
<p>Based on the Supreme Court decision, and absent action from the Biden administration and Congress, this support is not enough. With over $40 billion in rental relief left undistributed, and a threat to public health still looming, renters are in danger once again.</p>
