Joe Biden’s White House is partnering with McDonald’s to push the COVID-19 vaccine as hesitancy grows over the jab amid recalls and reports of side effects.
Starting in July, McDonald’s customers will receive a pro-vaccine message on its coffee cups with the phrase “We Can Do This,” a slogan created by the Department of Health and Human Services.
“We all want to protect ourselves and our loved ones and be together with our communities again,” said Genna Gent, McDonald’s USA vice president for global public policy and government relations, in a statement.
“McDonald’s is excited to be doing our part for the people we serve, providing them with simple information that can help keep them safe.”
Health and Human Services secretary Xavier Becerra also said that the public-private partnership will “be able to get trusted information about vaccines when they grab a cup of coffee or order a meal.”
“This effort will help more people make informed decisions about their health and learn about steps they can take to protect themselves and their communities,” he added.
The latest vaccine initiative comes amid reports that the majority of Americans who hadn’t been vaccinated as of March said they won’t get the shot.
And of those who outright refuse the COVID shot, 80% will not change their minds, according to an Economist/YouGov poll.
Footage circulating on social media shows a pharmacist unboxing a sealed Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine — only to find the package insert is completely blank.
