So when will Merkel put on her Hijab? From Der Westen:
Goodbye pork schnitzel? In German nurseries and schools pork is disappearing from the menus: some cities have banned it completely – in others the demand is falling rapidly. “In the next few years pork will disappear ever more from menus in nurseries and schools,” said the vice president of the German Nutrition Society, Ulrike Arens-Azevêdo, to our editorial team. The reason: religious prohibitions and modern nutrition standards.
“The share of pork has fallen ever further in recent years,” confirms Rolf Hoppe, chairman on the Berlin Schools Caterers Association. “The number of Muslim pupils has increased and the quality of conventional pork is questionable.” Hoppe’s own catering company Luna actually offers no meals with pork – and sees that as a market advantage: “Muslim pupils can rely on our production being absolutely free of pork.” It is not the only one: “Caterers now often offer a range completely free of pork,” said Hamburg nutrition expert Arens-Azevêdo.
