New Delhi:
Nobel laureate and Pakistani rights activist Malala Yousafzai today asked Pakistan to show "bold and strong commitment" to protect women's rights in Afghanistan. Ms Yousafzai, who is also the UN Messenger of Peace, made the remarks during a virtual session on "Supporting a future for girls' education in Afghanistan" as part of the UN General Assembly.
On being asked at the session about whether Pakistan could put pressure on the Taliban about girls' right to continue education, Ms Yousafzai said, "Pakistan is the neighbouring country of Afghanistan and we know that terrorism and extremism in Afghanistan reaches to the border of Pakistan as well and it impacts girls and women and communities in Pakistan and women's rights there as well."
"Pakistan should see the situation in Afghanistan not just has an issue of peace and security there alone, but as a peace and security issue for the whole region including Pakistan, peace in Afghanistan means peace in Pakistan," she said.
In 2012, Ms Yousafzai was shot at by Taliban terrorists in Pakistan in an assassination attempt, in retaliation for her activism on girls' right to education. Nine months after being shot, on her 16th birthday, she delivered a speech at the UN headquarters on women's right to education.
"So far we have heard some statements from the Prime Minister of Pakistan that women's rights must be protected and girls' education must be protected, but I hope that Pakistan can show a bold and strong commitment towards the protection of human rights in Afghanistan because we know that such ideologies can harm the whole region," Ms Yousafzai said.
She expressed hope that the Prime Minister of Pakistan will open the borders to the "people of Afghanistan who need to seek safety for their protection and for their families". 
"So far Pakistan has welcomed thousands of people but we need to be more open to welcoming people who are under risk. Pakistan needs to ensure that it gets into a conversation and negotiation with Taliban to ensure protection of human rights," she said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden on Friday remembered Mahatma Gandhi, a week ahead of his birth anniversary on October 2, recalling the values advocated by the apostle of peace of non-violence, tolerance, respect and human trusteeship.
"The world celebrates Mahatma Gandhi's birthday next week. We're all reminded that his message of non-violence, respect, tolerance, matters today maybe more than ever," Biden told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House as he welcomed PM Modi.
In his remarks, PM Modi also remembered the revered freedom fighter. "President Joe Biden mentioned Gandhi ji's Jayanti (birth anniversary). Gandhi Ji spoke about trusteeship, a concept which is very important for our planet in the times to come," the prime minister said.
Gandhi's concept of trusteeship is a social and economic philosophy aiming to bring justice in society. It provides a means by which the wealthy people would be the trustees of the trust (Earth) that looked after the welfare of the people in general. Gandhi believed labour was a superior capital as means of production.
“It (trusteeship) means that the planet that we have, we have to bequeath it to the following generations. And this sentiment of trusteeship is going to assume more and more importance globally, but also between the relations of India and the United States,” PM Modi said.

Kabul September 24 (ANI): In a bid to further censor and repress the media freedom in Afghanistan:
These curbs include directives against publishing topics that are in conflict with Islam or insulting to national personalities, and also instruct journalists to produce news reports in coordination with the government media office, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/23/world/asia/taliban-media-guidelines-afghanistan.html" target="_blank">The New York Times reported</a>.
"Journalists are just frightened," said Steven Butler, a senior member of America-based press freedom organization adding that "the organization had been receiving hundreds of emails from [Afghan] journalists asking for help."
Since the collapse of Afghan government, Over 150 media outlets in Afghanistan have shut down their operations as they struggled to carry out their day to day functions. This is because the Taliban has been continuously creating intrusion in media's 'right to information' which has hampered the work of scribe organisations, Tolo News reported.
Some of the most prominent newspapers were also forced to cease print operations and now publish only online, amid the country's sharp economic downturn, The New York Times reported
Earlier in this month, the Taliban also cracked upon the journalists covering demonstrations against the 'new government' formed after ousting the democratically elected government.
Contrary to the promises made by the Taliban of respecting human values, the group continues to violate the basic human rights of media personnel as they are being harassed, tortured, and killed.
There has been a change in the content being shown on private TV channels. Critical news bulletins, political debates, entertainment and music shows, foreign dramas are replaced with programmes tailored to the Taliban government.
Meanwhile, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has also asked Taliban to immediately cease detaining journalists in Afghanistan and allow the media to operate freely and without fear of reprisal.
Things have changed dramatically since the Taliban began its military advances after the US announced the withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan.
Dawa Khan Menapal, the Director of Afghanistan's Government Information Media Center in Kabul was killed in the first week of August. Two days later, journalist Toofan Omar of Paktia Ghag Radio was murdered by the Taliban fighters. Soon after Kabul fell, Taliban fighters began looking for journalists--many were tortured while some were killed, reported Al Arabiya Post.

The Taliban has issued a rebuke over misconduct by some of its members following the group's take over of the Western-backed government in Afghanistan last month, saying abuses would not be tolerated.
Senior Taliban member Mohammad Yaqoob said in an audio message that some "miscreants and notorious former soldiers" had been allowed to join Taliban units where they had committed a range of sometimes violent abuses. "We direct you keep them out of your ranks, otherwise strict action will be taken against you," he stated.
"We don't want such people in our ranks," he added.
The message from one of the Taliban's most senior leaders underlines the problems the Taliban have sometimes had in controlling their group, as they attempt to transition from an insurgency to a peacetime administration.
Some Kabul residents have complained of abusive treatment at the hands of Taliban terrorists who have appeared on the streets of the capital, often from other regions and unaccustomed to big cities. There have also been reports of reprisals against members of the former government and military or civil society activists, despite promises of amnesty by the Taliban.
Yaqoob said there had been isolated reports of unauthorized executions, and he repeated that such actions would not be tolerated.
"As you all are aware, under the general amnesty announced in Afghanistan, no mujahid has the right to take revenge on anyone," he said. It was not clear precisely which incidents he was referring to, nor what prompted the message, which was published on Taliban Twitter accounts and widely shared on social media.
There have been reports of tensions within the group, between hardline battlefield commanders and political leaders more willing to seek compromise with governments outside Afghanistan.
Yaqoob also said patrols should be restricted to areas where they were assigned and criticised the fondness of some of the Taliban for going into administrative offices where they had no business and taking selfies.
"This is highly objectionable as everyone is taking out mobile phones and taking snaps in the important and sensitive ministries without any reason," he said. "Such hanging out and taking snaps and videos will not help you in this world, and also in the hereafter."

Vienna:
India's Comptroller and Auditor General GC Murmu was on Friday selected as the external auditor of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a prestigious institution that promotes peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said his candidature received majority support of the IAEA general conference and his tenure will be for six years, from 2022 to 2027.
"Today, India's Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has been selected as the next external auditor of the International Atomic Energy Agency for a six-year term at the General Conference of the IAEA in Vienna," the MEA said.

"The CAG's bid received majority support of the IAEA General Conference for the position for which several competing bids were submitted from different countries," it said in a statement.
The MEA said the election is a "recognition" of India's standing in the international community and global acknowledgement of the CAG's credentials, professionalism and experience.
Mr Murmu assumed office as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on August 8 last year. Before assuming the charge, he served as the first Lt Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mr Murmu also served in various capacities in the Government of India, such as secretary of the department of expenditure, special and additional secretary in the department of financial services and department of revenue.

Perry’s bizarre tweet underscores once again how the mask has little to do with virus protection and everything to do with signaling subservience to the cult of conformity.
As previously <a href="https://summit.news/2021/07/19/government-advisor-admits-masks-are-purely-comfort-blankets-that-do-virtually-nothing/">highlighted</a>, Dr Colin Axon, a SAGE advisor for the government, dismissed face masks as “comfort blankets” that do virtually nothing, noting that the COVID-19 virus particle is up to 5,000 times smaller than the holes in the mask.
“The small sizes are not easily understood but an imperfect analogy would be to imagine marbles fired at builders’ scaffolding, some might hit a pole and rebound, but obviously most will fly through,” Axon said.
