Recalling her story, she tells how she did spit on the cross and how she still regrets it to this day after:<blockquote>They forced me to spit on the Cross,” Zarefa recalls. “I told them that it was not appropriate, that it was a sin. He said that I must spit. ‘Don’t you see that I have a gun?’ he asked me. I said to myself, ‘Oh, the Cross! I am weak, I will spit on you. But Lord, I ask you to take revenge for me. I cannot escape from this.’”The shame is still visible on Zarefa’s face when she recounts the memory; her town, Qaraqosh, is liberated now, but she is still recovering from the traumatic two years that are only just behind her.Zarefa’s husband died shortly after Qaraqosh was captured. She remembers the warning signs in the days beforehand, when a group of teenagers on motorbikes chastised her for speaking in Syriac – a language closely related to the Aramaic that Jesus spoke.“Speak our language!” they shouted, in Arabic, the language of Islam.By that time, many families had already left Qaraqosh, after IS had overpowered and completely overrun the Iraqi army, leaving the Christians unprotected.For Zarefa, running was no option. Her husband was dying and she had no enemies in the town; she thought the two of them would be left in peace.But Zarefa soon found out there is no such thing as living in peace under IS rule. She shared how, soon after IS came, her husband passed away, leaving her a widow and more vulnerable than ever.She moved in with neighbours, but IS fighters repeatedly harassed them and robbed all of the valuables they could get their hands on. And not just valuables.“One day, the man whose house I was a guest in never came home. Some people said he was killed and buried in an open area. Others said that he fell in a hole. Another one said that only God knows what happened to him. The fact is that we have not seen him since,” Zarefa recalls.From then on it was just the two elderly, single women left. As soon as IS found out about them, they told the women to move to nearby Mosul.“We told them that we don’t want to leave; that we belong here,” Zarefa says. “That this is our home; we want to stay here. But they made us leave against our will. In the night, they took us from our house, they put bags over our heads and asked us if we had converted to Islam.”Frightened, Zarefa says she “quickly told them that I had”.A few hours later, when their hoods were lifted, the two women found themselves in an IS women’s prison full of mostly divorced women. (In the eyes of IS, it’s a crime for a woman to divorce.)After a few days, Zarefa and her friend managed to return to Qaraqosh as “Muslim” women, but when they arrived, they found three IS soldiers waiting to question them.“They requested that we openly profess adherence to Islam,” Zarefa says. “I begged them and asked them why we must do such a thing. ‘We will not add anything to your case by converting to Islam,’ we told them. ‘Let us choose our own way and religion.’” The leader of the group got angry, drew a gun, pointed it at Zarefa’s heart, and threatened to kill her if she didn’t convert to Islam.“What would you do if you were in our position?” she asks. “He said something, asked us to repeat it, and then asked if we were Muslims. ‘Yes,’ we said. ‘Yes, we are.’ And then they left.”But that was not enough; the harassment continued.Zarefa says different IS fighters continually came to their home and demanded money and valuables at gunpoint. When they had taken nearly everything and she was left almost bankrupt, she hid her last savings – the equivalent of 250 dollars – in her bra.But even that was discovered.“They forced me to take it off, and then they took my money,” Zarefa recalls, embarrassed by the memory. “Then that man pushed me down on the couch, put his gun on my chest, and threatened me because he was convinced there was more to rob. Would you have spit- and are you sure you are being honest with yourself? I say this because her story is another reminder of the necessity for Christians to be prepared for a time of persecution.We know in the West today that we are living on borrowed time. Many of the ancient lands that Christians once inhabited in great number in Europe are being overtaken by Islam on account of the increase of Muslims into Europe and, even more importantly, the apostasy and refusal to reproduce of the European people. We shall continue to love God and pray under a tree," church leader Kamal Wasantha told Asia News.<div class="nativo">Wasantha, a farmer, said their prayer hall was destroyed by Buddhist thugs headed by a local monk. But he said despite this act of cruelty, they do not harbour any ill will towards them.</div>"We have not cursed them," Wasantha said, "and shall not attack them in retaliation. Judgment belongs only to God. We do our part: prayers shall continue under a tree."They called their small church the Kithu Sevana, which means House of Christ. It is situated in Paharaiya, a village in north-western Sri Lanka. Around 15 families and 20 other worshippers attend weekly to pray and worship God.Rev. Ranjan Palitha, who comes every week from Chilaw to help Wasantha, as well as Adrian De Vissar, celebrate the liturgy and lead the prayers every Sunday and Friday mornings.On Jan. 5, their quiet church came under attack. "First, they threatened us verbally," Wasantha said. "Then they came with wooden sticks, iron bars and knives and destroyed everything."People "begged the attackers not to damage the place of worship," but "the Lord's house was pulled down in front of our eyes, as we asked God to forgive them."It was not the first time their church was threatened, although it was the first time it faced "proportions of a real disaster." The church was built over 15 years ago.Palitha and De Vissar recalled being confronted by the monk on Jan. 1 while they were headed home. "Our car was blocked by the Buddhist monk of Gothamiramaya, who used foul language. He then threatened more serious punishment if we continue to conduct liturgies," said Palitha.They decided to file a complaint at the police station in Karuwalagaswewa and likewise warned the Christian community about the threat.The night of the attack, the police summoned the clergymen together with the monk. Even though 200 witnesses identified the monk and his cohorts, they were eventually freed on bail.Wasantha knows they might face more persecution in the future, but he said the fire in their hearts to love and honour God will not be diminished by fear."I cannot abandon my mission," he said, "just because of these malicious attacks by people who do not tolerate the 'great change' by some families in this village. He says he said what he said as a gesture of "friendship" and "understanding" about the "positive aspects of Islam." However, that is not what happened.He said the shahada. If a man says this, then under Islamic law, he is regarded has having converted to Islam. That is the reason the Muslims stopped attacking him. What this man did is what the jogger in the UK did, and Muslims look upon this as the act by which a man becomes a MuslimThis is part of a larger point which I have hammered at for almost two decades now, and that is why Muslims engage in terrorism. Terrorism and jihad are born out of Islam's theological mandate to conquer and convert the world to Islam. While politics, economics, and other areas of live clearly can influence a person, they have absolutely nothing to do with the main reason why the violence exists. Islamic violence is not the end, but it is one among many means to the greater end, which is taking you away from Christ and transferring you to the property of Islam.What this man did may have stopped him from being killed now, but it was an act of apostasy fro whatever beliefs (assuming he had any to begin with) he previously held. In the mind of these Muslims, he is now a Muslim. If he does not show that he has sufficiently "converted" in the future, they may attack him again, and even worse this time because they would look upon him as an apostate.In addition to this, it also suggests for other people that doing what he did- converting to Islam- is a legitimate way of stopping Muslim violence against oneself. Yet this is an absolute joke. Converting to Islam, or sacrificing your beliefs because of the fear of these Muslims is the ultimate sign of defeat. If you actually believe in something, you stand and fight for it- you do not just fall over and submit.Years ago, the Kinks put out a song called "Living on a thin line," in which it described the cultural destruction of the UK. In their words, "there's no England anymore," because the very nature of what it meant to be English was gone. As they described, it seemed as though England had reached the end of her history, and the song wondered what the future would hold, as the people were "living on a thin line- oh, what are we supposed to do?"Now Christ descended our humanity so He might raise us up to His divinity. No man who lives in Christ and seeks after His will, no matter how bad things may be, will be destroyed because just as Christ rose from the dead, so He will raise us up. The condition is that we follow Him, and destruction comes when we cease to follow Him. This is the situation the UK finds herself in, since for almost five centuries now she has lived in open rebellion and later apostasy against the Church on account of, following in the footsteps of Luther, her choosing to reject the Church and ultimately, re-write religion in order to justify human political desire. She has been a long promoter of hatred against the Church for the same ends. As such, the rise of Islam in the UK is a sign of the perfection of her apostasy, for Islam is the ultimate end of all Christian heresy. Either the UK will return to the Church and being a long struggle for freedom, or she will commit suicide by submission to the will of Islam.While this story is sad and disturbing, it is also not a surprise.
