Danish Newspaper Apologizes For “Hypnotically” Following Government Narrative on COVID

A top Danish newspaper has apologized for “hypnotically” following government narratives on the COVID-19 pandemic, admitting “we failed.”
In fact, “we failed” is the very headline used by tabloid outlet Ekstra Bladet, which goes on to admit, “For ALMOST two years, we – the press and the population – have been almost hypnotically preoccupied with the authorities’ daily coronavirus figures.”
The newspaper also acknowledged that it had been found wanting on the important issue of parsing numbers of people who died with COVID not from COVID.
“WE HAVE NOT been vigilant enough at the garden gate when the authorities were required to answer what it actually meant that people are hospitalized with corona and not because of corona. Because it makes a difference. A big difference,” states the piece.

The article also asserts that politicians and authorities have ‘lied’ about other aspects of the pandemic and that this has caused the population to lose trust in them.

The newspaper also pointed out that the efficacy of vaccines to put a halt to the pandemic was vastly overexaggerated by health authorities.
“The vaccines are consistently referred to as our ‘superweapon’. And our hospitals are called ‘superhospitals’. Nevertheless, these super-hospitals are apparently maximally pressured, even though almost the entire population is armed with a super-weapon. Even children have been vaccinated on a huge scale, which has not been done in our neighboring countries.”
As we previously <a href="https://summit.news/2021/08/03/editor-in-chief-of-germanys-top-newspaper-apologizes-for-fear-driven-covid-coverage/">highlighted</a>, the editor-in-chief of Germany’s top newspaper Bild also apologized for the news outlet’s fear-driven coverage of COVID, specifically to children who were told “that they were going to murder their grandma.”
Julian Reichelt said sorry for Bild’s coverage, which was “like poison” and “made you feel like you were a mortal danger to society.”
“Will other news outlets have the journalistic integrity to follow suit?” asks <a href="https://www.zerohedge.com/covid-19/we-failed-danish-newspaper-apologizes-publishing-official-covid-19-narratives-without">Zero Hedge</a>.
“Perhaps CNN’s ratings wouldn’t be down 90% from last year in the key 25-to-54 demographic if they simply owned up to their complicity in breathlessly spewing government propaganda.”

Following the explosive <a href="https://summit.news/2022/01/12/video-fauci-accuses-rand-paul-of-using-covid-for-political-gain-and-kindling-the-crazies/">latest exchange between Rand Paul and Anthony Fauci</a> Tuesday, Fauci ran to CNN and MSNBC to complain more about how the Senator is attacking him for his own political gain, prompting Paul to label the NIAID head “juvenile”.
On Chris Hayes’ show Fauci, stated “What you saw at the hearing today was pure ad hominem. And I called him [Paul] out because that’s exactly what he’s doing: he’s raising money.”

Note that during the hearing Fauci did not present any evidence to counter Paul’s claims that the NIAID Director has continually lied under oath and has actively attempted to shut down scientists and doctors who disagree with him.
Fauci attempted to shift the narrative to personal attacks against him.
Appearing on Fox News, Paul shot back, claiming that Fauci is now going even beyond saying he ‘is science’ and cannot be questioned, by suggesting that questioning him is encouraging violence.
“It was a cheap shot by a politician, not a scientist,” Paul said, further noting “he’s blaming me for a death threat, but when [Republican members of Congress] were shot at by a Bernie Sanders supporter [in 2017], not one Republican stood up and said, oh, this is Bernie Sanders’s fault”.
“We were not juvenile enough to do that,” Paul continued, adding “But he [Fauci] came to the hearing today and accused me of somehow inciting some lunatic person.”
Paul further urged, “Does he not realise I have people arrested once every month or two who have threatened to attack me, plus I have been attacked, and he’s going to come and blame his attacks on me?”
“I think he has lied to the American public. I think that he funded the lab in Wuhan that in all likelihood this virus came from. I think he as ignored natural immunity. I think he has told people to wear a cloth mask when they don’t work,” Paul emphasised.

In a further appearance, Paul said of Fauci “He didn’t answer the question why is he smearing these three doctors? I’m proud of the fact people go to RandPaul.com raising money to fire Fauci because he is a menace.”
“Everything he said has been incorrect. And I think he is part of the problem, Paul continued, adding “Even from the very beginning the fact that this virus came from a lab in Wuhan he has denied it and worked to cover it up and denigrated anybody who raises this question as a conspiracy theorist.”
“So yes, he is a partisan politician and he has no place in any objective role over the pandemic and yeah, it’s a political thing. Whoever wins the election will make the decision whether he stays or goes or whether we investigate where the virus came from in the beginning,” Paul declared.

FT Says “Anti-Vax Sentiment” in the West Being Fueled by Russia & China

In a report that advocates governments using “psychological operations” against their own population, the Financial Times asserts, with no proof, that Russia and China are responsible for pushing “anti-vax sentiment” and criticism of lockdown measures in the west.
The <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/1e030bbb-a074-4fbd-94c5-94fe579a9a8a">article</a> quotes Mikael Tofvesson, head of the Swedish Navy’s new Psyops division, who says “foreign aggressors” are trying to “sow division by targeting areas of public concern such as crime, Covid vaccinations, the government’s response to the pandemic, and immigration.”
“The most important task in psychological defence is to inoculate the population against believing false information,” states the article, which is written by Elisabeth Braw of the American Enterprise Institute, a neo-con think tank.
Such measures were deployed in the United Kingdom during the first lockdown, when scientists in the UK working as advisors for the government <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2021/05/14/scientists-admit-totalitarian-use-fear-control-behaviour-covid/">admitted</a> using what they now admit to be “unethical” and “totalitarian” methods of instilling fear in the population in order to control behavior during the pandemic.
One scientist with the SPI-B admitted that, “In March [2020] the Government was very worried about compliance and they thought people wouldn’t want to be locked down. There were discussions about fear being needed to encourage compliance, and decisions were made about how to ramp up the fear.”
Of course, contrary to the claims in the article, the primary goal of psychological operations, whether directed against an enemy or a domestic population, is to instill fear and change behavior – telling the truth is hardly a priority.
Far from dispelling “false information,” psychological operations routinely rely on using false information to influence and manipulate “the enemy.”

“Psychological operations have long been a part of military operations, and are typically defined as the use of propaganda and other methods to influence the attitudes and behavior of foreign adversaries,” <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2022/01/12/financial-times-psy-ops-are-crucial-weapon-against-disinformation/">writes</a> Allum Bokhari.
“What the FT is advocating — and what many have long suspected — is the use of these techniques by western military, security, and intelligence forces against their own citizens.”
“Hostile states including Russia, China and Iran have increased their use of disinformation and online propaganda to amplify anti-vax sentiment and foment political tensions in Europe and the US,” Braw claims.
However, the report contains no evidence whatsoever that Russia and China are responsible for any coordinated attempt to sow doubts about COVID-19 vaccines or lockdown measures.
Indeed, the mere fact that the newspaper complains about “disinformation” in the context of COVID-19 conspiracy theories is pretty rich given that the constantly invoked ‘Russian collusion’ charge is itself a baseless conspiracy theory.
In reality, concerns about vaccine side-effects, giving vaccines to children and mandating vaccines and COVID passports as part of the growing bio-security police state are perfectly valid concerns shared by millions of people across the west.
The FT is a staunchly globalist newspaper of record for the international elite and is routinely represented at the annual Bilderberg conference.
It can hardly be trusted to represent the interests of the common man.

“Paedos & Propaganda”: Man Attacks BBC Statue Sculpted by Child Molester

A man scaled the facade of a statue that was sculpted by a child molester outside BBC headquarters in London, defacing it with the words “paedos and propaganda.”
A protester carrying a hammer used an ordinary ladder to reach the monument, which was erected in 1933 by artist Eric Gill, who in 1989 was revealed to have sexually abused his daughters, sister and family dog.
As he chipped away at the statue, the man told police the statue should have been removed “decades ago.”
The man was subsequently arrested after a four hour standoff, with a crane being used to remove him from the 10 foot statue, which represents The Tempest character Ariel as a naked young boy.
“Gill’s statue has garnered controversy since its installation 88 years ago, when critics voiced concern over the size of the boy’s genitalia – prompting the tabling of a question in the House of Commons,” reports <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/01/12/protester-attacks-statue-bbc-headquarters-sculptor-sexually/">the Telegraph</a>.

Many have questioned why the BBC itself didn’t remove the statue, particularly after revelations that the broadcaster had facilitated the cover up of the Jimmy Saville pedophile scandal.
Another statue made by Gill is situated inside the BBC building itself, although that hasn’t been removed either.
Last week, four left-wing activists were cleared of criminal damage for pulling down a statue of slave-trader Edward Colston in Bristol during a Black Lives Matter protest.
This set the legal precedent that anyone can now destroy public art or works of heritage without punishment, so long as they claim to be offended.
“Coming just a week after the Colston verdict, this attack demonstrates that it was indeed a ‘vandal’s charter’ placing all of our built heritage at increased risk,” said Robert Poll, founder of the campaign group Save Our Statues.
“We have now entered a new age of barbarism, where the value of art is judged only by the politics imposed upon it, and destruction is considered progressive,” he added.

Tuesday saw Senator Rand Paul and Anthony Fauci again lay into each other during a hearing, with the latter accusing Paul of using their previous exchanges and the COVID crisis for political gain.
Fauci brandished print outs from Paul’s website, claiming that the Senator was personally attacking him in order to raise campaign funds.

The head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)  also suggested that by claiming there has been subterfuge and lying during past testimony, Paul is intentionally riling up ‘crazies’ who have sent Fauci death threats.
“What happens when he gets out and accuses me of things that are completely untrue is that all of a sudden that kindles the crazies out there and I have threats upon my life, harassment of my family and my children with obscene phone calls, because people are lying about me,” Fauci told the Senate panel.
Fauci then claimed a guy from California had been arrested in Iowa last month as he was on a trip to kill Fauci with an AR15 rifle.
Fauci said “The police asked him where he was going and he was going to Washington, D.C., to kill Dr. Fauci,” he said. “They found in his car, an AR-15 and multiple magazines of ammunition because he thinks that maybe I’m killing people.”

“In usual fashion, senator, you are distorting everything about me,” Fauci said, adding “This happens all the time, you personally attack me, with absolutely not a shred of evidence about anything you say.”
Paul shot back at Fauci, “It’s disappointing for you to suggest that people who dare to question you are responsible somehow for violent threats.”

Paul responded to Fauci by charging “You have politically attacked your colleagues and in a politically reprehensible way you’ve attacked their reputations.”
The Senator also noted that “The idea that a government official like yourself would claim unilaterally to represent science and that any criticism of you would be considered a criticism of science itself is quite dangerous.”
Paul also charged that Fauci and former National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Francis Collins, had colluded to bring about a “published takedown” of scientists who didn’t follow their narrative on COVID and resisted lockdowns and other severe restrictions.

Following Project Veritas’ <a href="https://thepostmillennial.com/project-veritas-releases-military-documents-that-contradict-fauci-gain-of-function">release of documents from DARPA</a> highlighting how Fauci and Collins spoke about a “take down” of scientists who they disagreed with, Paul also charged that Fauci attempted to discredit scientists who amplified evidence that the COVID pandemic originated with a lab leak.
Paul further noted “In an email exchange with Dr. [Francis] Collins you conspire and I quote here directly from the email to create a quick and devastating published takedown of three prominent epidemiologist from Harvard, Oxford and Stanford. (Apparently, there’s a lot of fringe epidemiologist at Harvard, Oxford and Stanford.) And you quote in the email that they are from Dr. Collins and you you agree that they are fringe. Immediately as this takedown ethic.”

Can randomly selected citizens govern better than elected officials?

If you want to guess what Congress is going to do tomorrow, just about the last thing you should do is check in with political philosophers and theorists in the academy.
But if you want to know what Congress will do in 50 years, seeing <a href="https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/22822706/john-rawls-theory-of-justice">what ideas are percolating in the academy</a> can be surprisingly informative.
That’s why I’ve been struck by the growing popularity, among academics, of a radical idea for rethinking democracy: getting rid of elections, and instead picking representatives by lottery, as with jury duty. The idea, sometimes called sortition or “lottocracy,” originates in ancient Athens, where democracy often took the form of assigning positions to citizens by drawing lots.
But lately it’s had a revival in the academy; Rutgers philosopher <a href="https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=2488791">Alex Guerrero</a>, Yale political theorist <a href="https://press.princeton.edu/books/hardcover/9780691181998/open-democracy">Hélène Landemore</a>, and Belgian public intellectual <a href="https://smile.amazon.com/Against-Elections-David-Van-Reybrouck/dp/1847924220/r" has-subtag="true" data-cdata='{"rewritten_url":"https://smile.amazon.com/Against-Elections-David-Van-Reybrouck/dp/1847924220/r?ascsubtag=[]vx[p]22642159[m]m-placeholder[s]s-placeholder[t]w[c]c-placeholder[r]r-placeholder[d]d-placeholder","subtag_max_length":99,"subtag_delim_length":2,"subtag_key":"ascsubtag","subtag_data":{"ascsubtag":"[]vx[p]22642159[m]m-placeholder[s]s-placeholder[t]w[c]c-placeholder[r]r-placeholder[d]d-placeholder"},"encode_subtag":false}'>David Van Reybrouck</a> have been among the most vocal advocates in recent years. The broad sense that American democracy is in crisis has provoked an interest in bold ideas for repairing it, with lottocracy the boldest among them.
It’s a proposal that might sound ludicrous. So much discourse around “saving democracy” — including President Joe Biden’s <a href="https://www.vox.com/2022/1/11/22876524/joe-biden-filibuster-voting-rights-speech">speech</a> calling on the Senate to change the filibuster rules — revolves around protecting voting rights and access to the polls; it feels hardly imaginable to have a functioning democracy without elections.
But there’s a reason smart people are flocking to the notion. For one thing, randomly selected “citizen’s assemblies” have shown themselves to be viable in practice (at least on a smaller scale thus far), and have already been convened in a few cases, for purposes like <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_Convention_for_Climate">proposing climate policy in France</a> or reforming the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens%27_Assembly_on_Electoral_Reform_(British_Columbia)">electoral system in British Columbia</a>.
More importantly, choosing representatives randomly has some strong theoretical attractions.
The basic argument is that selection by lottery avoids many of the flaws and biases of elections.
In theory, representative, electoral democracy allows citizens to select authentic representatives of their interests. But in practice, this mission is undermined by the corrupting influence of campaign donors; the racial, gender, and other biases of voters; voter ignorance about which politicians and policies will best pursue their values; and on and on.
In an electoral system, a member of Congress who proposes, say, taxing imports will <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/02/companies-border-adjustment-tax/517593/">face a barrage of attacks from the likes of Walmart and Target that threaten their reelection</a>.
Representatives selected by lot don’t have to campaign and don’t need campaign funds, goes the argument, limiting opportunities for corruption. As Guerrero puts it, “Lotteries excel at preventing corruption or undue influence in the selection of representatives.”
Landemore argues that lotteries can also lead to more diverse and representative legislatures than elections, which should enable better and fairer decision-making.
In <a href="https://press.princeton.edu/books/paperback/9780691176390/democratic-reason">earlier work</a>, she argued that part of what makes democracy a valuable system is its ability to incorporate a wider range of information and perspectives than just those held by an autocratic elite. Lotteries, <a href="https://foreignpolicy.com/2021/12/07/biden-democracy-summit-people-power/">she claims</a>, go further than elections, enabling the inclusion of perspectives systematically excluded in electoral democracy: “the introverted, inarticulate, short, and shy, as well as, typically, poor and Black or other people of color” who are disadvantaged in practice in electoral schemes.
No idea is foolproof and one can imagine many qualms about the idea of democracy by lottery.
One is that the seeming incorruptibility of the lottery might be a function of it existing as an ideal, not a heavily contested, actually existing body like Congress.
As noted above, there are a few cases of citizens’ assemblies in recent memory, including several in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens%27_Assembly_(Ireland)">Ireland</a> (which helped advance the country’s <a href="https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/01/05/a-jury-of-peers/">decision to legalize abortion</a>) and the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_Climate_Assembly">UK</a> (where it produced a <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-54087176">report with ideas for reducing carbon emissions</a>). None of these cases have involved notable instances of corruption or bribery of the randomly selected citizens, or at least no such instances have emerged publicly.
But those assemblies have typically been tasked with proposing policies that a legislature or electorate then must ratify. Ireland, as a whole, voted in a referendum on whether to legalize abortion. The citizens’ assembly’s view was not binding.
If a citizens’ assembly were given binding power to determine billions in public spending, private interests would have a massive incentive to influence the design of the lottery, what briefing materials are given to the amateur representatives, which experts get to testify before them, etc. In other words, they might be plagued by precisely the problems of representative democracy that lotteries are designed to curtail.
In her book Open Democracy, Landemore deals with this objection in depth. For one thing, in her proposal (unlike Guerrero’s), citizens’ assemblies would only propose changes that would then go to a public vote. But she also cites her experience observing the French citizens’ assembly on climate change and arguing that “ordinary citizens, once empowered, are very protective of their prerogatives and will actively and vocally resist perceived attempts at manipulating them.”
That may be, but not all manipulation is overt. Much lobbying takes the form of lobbyists <a href="https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/american-political-science-review/article/abs/lobbying-as-legislative-subsidy/AE4B5D8AB9C2487BB78C2A51BB53E03F">providing useful information to lawmakers</a>, albeit information framed so as to invite conclusions amenable to the lobbyist’s client. That process seems likelier to work on randomly selected citizens, who have a lower level of baseline political knowledge than people who self-select into running for Congress.
Landemore ultimately concedes that “any system would need to rely on additional accountability mechanisms, including laws regulating the role of money in politics.” That’s true enough — but it should give one pause about how likely a captured citizens’ assembly is to outperform a captured Congress, in terms of producing effective, broadly popular policies.
Second, a lot of the proposal’s effectiveness depends on being able to actually enlist the participation of a random subsample of the country. Guerrero proposes “considerable” financial incentives and providing relocation expenses and protection against firing for people chosen to serve. That would help ensure greater participation than, say, jury duty. But so long as participation is voluntary, self-selection will bias who winds up serving.
To give the lottocrats their due, such bias seems likely to be milder than any bias present in electoral democracy, which also requires would-be participants to self-select into service, along with self-selecting into fundraising, a grueling campaign schedule, etc.
Finally, I worry a bit about lottery selection increasing citizen alienation from the political system. One of our society’s deepest problems right now is a <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/why-are-americans-so-distrustful-of-each-other-11608217988">broad decline in public trust</a> in other citizens and in <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2021/05/17/public-trust-in-government-1958-2021/">institutions</a> — a sense that government, business, and civil society do not work for ordinary people and that activities like voting do not help.
If citizens feel like that now, imagine how they’d feel if they were given literally no choice in who represented them.
Yes, random selection means that the whole public is represented in a general, statistical sense. But this process deprives individual voters of any sense that their own actions can influence political outcomes, which could in turn worsen trust in government.
Faced with this objection, Landemore has <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/23/podcasts/ezra-klein-podcast-helene-landemore.html">responded</a> that in her view, lottocratic assemblies should mostly be tasked with coming up with proposals that would then be put up for a public vote, meaning the public retains a strong say. This eases the problem, but opens up the possibility of mass corporate spending to sway those referendum results; recall <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2020/11/4/21549760/uber-lyft-prop-22-win-vote-app-message-notifications">Uber and Lyft’s successful $200 million campaign</a> to pass a proposition in California to reduce their labor costs.
All that said, I’m excited to see more experiments with government-by-lottery. In California, for instance, I could imagine a citizens’ assembly empowered to produce a new state constitution that would be less encumbered by ballot referenda like <a href="https://slate.com/business/2016/09/californias-proposition-13-is-bad-policy-and-here-are-some-graphs-to-show-you-why.html">Prop 13</a> — which sharply limits revenue from property taxes and imposes a two-thirds supermajority requirement for when the legislature wishes to raise other taxes — that make governance in that state a nightmare. I would hope such a new constitution would have a smaller role for referenda.
I could also imagine citizens’ assemblies offering a way around congressional gridlock. Suppose Congress passed a law empowering an assembly to propose changes to gerrymandering and voting rights laws — with a promise that whatever proposal emerges will become law unless majorities in both houses rejected it. Congress might not give up much power, but would enable progress to be made.
<a href="https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/22814025/democracy-trump-january-6-capitol-riot-election-violence">American democracy is in a bad way</a>. Desperate times call for trying something new.
