Republicans made Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing about Brett Kavanaugh

<p><a href="https://www.vox.com/2022/3/20/22934967/ketanji-brown-jackson-supreme-court-confirmation-hearing">Senate Republicans</a> — who know they probably won’t be able to prevent <a href="https://www.vox.com/2022/2/25/22912842/supreme-court-nominee-ketanji-brown-jackson-biden">Ketanji Brown Jackson from being confirmed to the Supreme Court</a> — opened her confirmation hearing by focusing on something else: old grievances.</p>
<p>Several Republicans, including Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Ted Cruz (R-TX), sought to draw a direct contrast between how Jackson is being treated and how Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was treated during his hearing in 2018. Repeatedly, senators noted that Jackson’s questioning would focus on her legal record and not what they called the “personal attacks” Kavanaugh experienced, when he was faced with allegations of sexual assault. In doing so, they downplayed the allegations brought against him and tried to suggest that their treatment of Jackson this week would be an improvement upon how Democrats previously behaved.</p>
<p>“When we say this is not Kavanaugh, what do we mean?” Graham said. “It means Democratic senators are not going to have their windows busted by groups. No Republican senator is going to unleash an attack on your character when the hearing is almost over.”</p>
<p>It’s a way to preempt the possible blame Republicans might get for their questioning of Jackson, said Mike Davis, the head of the Article III Project, a right-leaning advocacy group focused on the federal judiciary.</p>
<p>“It preempts any complaints Democrats might have about GOP criticisms of Judge Jackson’s record because their attacks on Justice Kavanaugh were personal and unproven,” Davis, who has been informally advising Republican staff, told Vox. “It’s also a reminder to the public of how terribly Democrats treated Justice Kavanaugh and his family. The GOP will focus on her professional record, giving their criticisms more credibility.” (There are key differences between the two: for instance, Kavanaugh faced credible allegations of sexual assault, while Jackson does not.)</p>
<p>Republicans also <a href="https://rollcall.com/2022/03/21/its-jacksons-scotus-hearing-but-gop-cant-stop-talking-about-gorsuch-kavanaugh-barrett/">emphasized Democrats’ past opposition</a> to federal judicial nominees Miguel Estrada, who is Latino, and Janice Rogers Brown, who is Black, to suggest that Democrats have been harsher on nominees of color if they are GOP appointees.</p>
<p>Republicans’ questions and attacks this week are intended to make the hearing “more of a political wash instead of a political win for Democrats,” Davis <a href="https://www.vox.com/2022/3/20/22934967/ketanji-brown-jackson-supreme-court-confirmation-hearing">previously explained</a>. By drawing attention to the ways Democrats have allegedly mistreated Republican nominees, the GOP is trying to suggest that its treatment of Jackson is well within Senate norms.</p>
<p>“If there’s one thing you can say about the judicial nomination wars, they’ll always say they’re responding to the previous bad behavior of the other side,” said Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University and adjunct scholar at the Cato Institute.</p>
<h3>Republicans relitigated past nominations</h3>
<p>Republicans spent much of the first day walking through a litany of grievances about past nomination fights.</p>
<p>Many referenced Kavanaugh in some way, and many also spoke about Estrada and Rogers.</p>
<p>“We will be fair and thorough, as people would expect us to be, but we won’t get down in the gutter like Democrats did during the Kavanaugh confirmation hearings,” Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said in his remarks.</p>
<p>Kavanaugh was confirmed after a dramatic nomination fight that saw allegations surface against him of decades-old sexual misconduct, prompting an incredibly acrimonious fight among senators, large protests at the Capitol, and a dramatic and emotional second round of hearings and testimony at the height of the national Me Too movement.</p>
<p>The comparison suggests that Jackson and Kavanaugh’s nominations are taking place under similar contexts, though of course they are not. Republicans didn’t acknowledge that, and even played down the allegations.</p>
<p>“No one is going to inquire into your teenage dating habits,” Cruz said in remarks that appeared to gloss over the allegations Kavanaugh faced.</p>
<p>Statements by Republicans about both Estrada and Rogers Brown also seemed aimed at showing that Democrats have also previously opposed nominees of color. From 2001 to 2003, Democrats blocked Estrada’s nomination for the DC Circuit Court of Appeals due to questions about his experience and the belief that he’d add to the conservative tilt of the court. He was ultimately forced to withdraw his nomination. Rogers Brown, meanwhile, was confirmed for an appeals court seat in 2005, but only after Democrats delayed her nomination for two years because of her conservative views on issues including labor rights.</p>

<p>In addition to citing their complaints with how past nominations were handled, Republicans also previewed other topics they intend to ask Jackson about this week, including her sentencing decisions in child porn cases, her work <a href="https://apnews.com/article/ketanji-brown-jackson-biden-stephen-breyer-us-supreme-court-middle-east-af2eabfa705514b866cde97c49533209">defending Guantanamo Bay detainees</a>, and her position on packing the court.</p>
<p>Somin notes that Kavanaugh’s hearing was widely viewed as energizing Republican voters in 2018, just ahead of those midterm elections, and references to it now could at least temporarily fuel the base.</p>
<p>Republicans have also tied Jackson’s positions on sentencing to a broader “soft on crime” attack they’ve fielded against Democrats prior to the midterms. As crime rates have increased during the pandemic, the GOP has sought to pin the blame on President Joe Biden and other Democratic lawmakers.</p>
<p>This week’s hearings offer them another avenue to make that same case.</p>

What Happened to People Who Volunteered to Fight For Ukraine?

<p><strong>British volunteers have been blamed for a missile strike that killed 35 people at a Ukrainian training facility because their phone signals gave away the base’s location.</strong></p>
<p>Whoops.</p>
<p>“Between 12 to 14 British phone numbers starting with the +44 national dialling code were visible to surveillance equipment a short time before the Russian missile strike on the Yavoriv training facility in western Ukraine on the 13th of March,” reports <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2022/03/20/phone-signals-of-british-volunteers-may-have-triggered-strike-on-ukrainian-base/">Breitbart</a>.</p>
<p>“Mercenaries who were contracted by the Wagner Group, a military company linked to Moscow, may have been operating nearby at the time of the strike, according to reports, and specialists fear they would have been able to pick up, locate, and target a concentrated group of British mobile phone signals and pass the information to Russian forces.”</p>
<p>The story once again highlights the danger of badly trained foreign volunteers traveling to the front lines of a hot war.</p>
<p>Following President Zelensky’s call for foreign fighters to join the cause, the legacy media in the west breathlessly amplified the moral crusade of Brits and Americans making perilous journeys in the name of ‘supporting Ukraine’.</p>
<p>The Biden White House also held a meeting with <a href="https://www.rt.com/news/552092-washington-tiktok-influencers-ukraine-narrative/">TikTok influencers</a>, telling them to bolster NATO propaganda narratives and encourage their young audience to do their bit to ‘support Ukraine’.</p>

<p>Members of the predominantly leftist Reddit community also egged each other on to volunteer to fight in Ukraine despite their military experience extending to obsessively playing Call of Duty.</p>
<p>Their desire to virtue signal about supporting Ukraine by posting information that gave away the location of bases and training facilities also led to such sites being <a href="https://poptopic.com.au/news/redditors-shot-dead-in-ukraine-conflict-after-volunteering-to-fight-in-legion/">targeted and bombed</a> by Russian forces.</p>
<p>Numerous <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2022/03/17/ukraine-deploying-foreign-volunteer-medics-kyiv-cannon-fodder/">reports</a> have now emerged of volunteers being treated like “cannon fodder,” having their passports ripped up and sent to the front lines while being told they won’t be able to go home until the war is over.</p>
<p>36-year-old British man Ben Spann, who had no military experience, left his wife and children and traveled to Ukraine without their knowledge to fight but told <a href="https://news.sky.com/story/ukraine-briton-who-travelled-to-warzone-to-join-military-fight-against-russia-leaves-over-suicide-mission-fears-12566254">Sky News</a> he soon left after realizing he was facing a “suicide mission.”</p>
<p>Spann said he was kept in a safe house with no beds or running water for 5 days and had a gun pointed at his head by a Ukrainian SWAT team.</p>
<p>Upon returning to the UK, Spann said those without military experience “can be more of a burden” to actual fighters and that in hindsight he had traveled there to boost his own “ego.”</p>
<p>There are also reports that such individuals are being slaughtered by the Russian bombardment of towns and cities.</p>

<p><strong>The world’s current number one tennis player Daniil Medvedev faces a ban from competing at the Wimbledon tournament in London unless he publicly denounces Vladimir Putin, according to reports.</strong></p>
<p>The British Minister for Sport Nigel Huddleston <a href="https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sports/medvedev-wimbledon-hopes-could-hinge-political-assurance-uk-minister-2022-03-15/">stated Wednesday</a> at a select committee in parliament that Russian and Belarusian players will have to go before cameras and tell the world they are opposed to the actions of their countries in Ukraine in order to compete.</p>

<p>Huddleston added that just avoiding flying the flag or wearing the colours of their countries wouldn’t be enough.</p>
<p>“Many countries have agreed that they will not allow representatives from Russia to compete,” the minister said, adding “There are also visa issues as well. When it comes to individuals, that is more complex.”</p>
<p>“Absolutely nobody flying the flag for Russia should be allowed or enabled,” Huddleston emphasised.</p>
<p>“We need some potential assurance that they are not supporters of Putin and we are considering what requirements we may need to try and get some assurances along those lines,” he added.</p>
<p>Huddleston also said “It would be better if we can decide some broad global consensus on this.”</p>
<p>There was no assurance from the minister as to whether Medvedev and other Russians or Belarusians would be protected if they publicly denounce their leaders.</p>
<p>Medvedev has previously been asked about the situation in Ukraine, responding “My message is always the same — I want peace in all of the world.”</p>
<p>Apparently that isn’t enough for <a href="https://summit.news/2022/03/03/rt-news-broadcasts-in-the-uk-have-now-been-shut-off-by-the-eu/">hopped up UK government sports and culture ministers</a> who suddenly think they’re the spearhead of war with Putin.</p>
<p>The World Tennis Association has announced that it does not agree with the potential ban on Russian players, with WTA head Steve Simon noting “I can tell you that we have never banned athletes from participating on our tour as the result of political positions their leadership may take, so it would take something very significant for that to change, but again we don’t know where this is going.”</p>
<p>“I feel very strongly that these individual athletes should not be the ones that are being penalized by the decisions of an authoritarian leadership that is obviously doing terrible, reprehensible things.” Simon further urged.</p>
<p>The situation with Medvedev is interesting in relation to <a href="https://summit.news/2022/02/15/tennis-star-djokovic-vows-to-boycott-major-tournaments-if-they-demand-he-gets-vaxxed/">the situation with Novak Djokovic</a>, who faces being banned from competing at Wimbledon and <a href="https://summit.news/2022/03/10/biden-admin-bans-unvaccinated-tennis-ace-djokovic-from-competing/">other tournaments</a> because he remains unvaccinated. The world’s number one and number two players are both facing having their careers cut short merely for not publicly amplifying the current groupthink narrative demands of political zealots.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, cancel culture has now been extended to an entire country because of the actions of its leader.</p>

<p>As we’ve reported, the elites’ New World Order plan is tied to the World Economic Forum’s Great Reset agenda, which seeks to use the COVID-19 crisis to accelerate a controlled deindustrialization of society and abolish property rights.</p>
<p>Notably, Biden alluded to the cycles of history described by William Strauss and Neil Howe in their book “<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.amazon.com/Fourth-Turning-American-Prophecy-Rendezvous/dp/0767900464#:~:text=Finally%2C%20the%20fourth%20turning%20is%20a%20crisis%3B%20some,is%20led%20by%20a%20generational%20archetype%2C%20also%20cyclical." target="_blank">The Fourth Turning</a>“, which outlines dramatic cyclical shifts in society that occur roughly every 100 years due to natural rhythms of the human lifespan.</p>
<p>But this cycle is markedly different because it’s the elites themselves who want to spur this change to fulfill their preplanned outcome rather than allow the natural rhythm of humanity to take its course.</p>
<p>And what is the elites’ preplanned outcome? Professor Carroll Quigley said it best in his seminal work “Tragedy & Hope”:</p>

<p>As scholar G. Edward Griffin noted in his book “The Creature from Jekyll Island,” the dollar’s world reserve currency status has allowed the United States to spend much more than it earned, creating massive trade deficits which are otherwise impossible for other countries to accumulate:</p>

<p>Using the Ukraine conflict as the catalyst, America has <a href="https://fee.org/articles/swift-and-the-weaponization-of-the-us-dollar/#:~:text=SWIFT%20stands%20for%20the%20Society%20for%20Worldwide%20Interbank,reserve%20currency%2C%20SWIFT%20facilitates%20the%20international%20dollar%20system." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">weaponized the dollar against Russia</a> by banning the country from participating in the global SWIFT system, which is dollar denominated.</p>
<p>Additionally, the U.S. has even begun <a href="https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/us-expands-travel-bans-chinese-officials-hours-after-demanding-beijing-condemn-russia" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sanctioning Chinese officials</a> over the Communist nation’s genocide of the Uyghur population.</p>

<p>The dollar’s dominance – and therefore America’s global dominance – is fast coming to an end, and when it does, the globalist-driven shift toward its New World Order will be all but complete.</p>
