Berlin:
German health authorities on Wednesday advised against the use of the Moderna coronavirus vaccine for people under 30 due to evidence of a small risk of cardiac inflammation.
The Stiko vaccine commission cited studies showing that mRNA jabs led in rare cases to the conditions myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the tissue surrounding the heart) in younger patients, with slightly higher prevalence in those who received Moderna.
"For people above the age of 30 there is no higher risk," it added.
As a result, the Stiko updated its coronavirus vaccine guidance and "recommends that people under 30 only be vaccinated with Comirnaty," the BioNTech-Pfizer jab, one day after France issued similar guidance.
The advisory covers both initial inoculations and booster jabs even if the first vaccine was Moderna, it added.
The Stiko bases its recommendations on the findings of Germany's Federal Institute for Vaccines and Biomedicines, which compiles data on side effects and complications.
The US has also delayed approval of the Moderna jab for young people, though last week they recommended use of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages five to 11 after reviewing the risks of myocarditis.
Paediatric cardiologist Matthew Oster, commenting on the Pfizer recommendation at the time, said he was "much more worried" about the risks of Covid to young people than risks posed by the vaccine.

Chinese police detained three people after thousands of cheering fans packed a square in Wuhan to watch a Chinese team win a major eSports world title, state media said.
More than 2,000 people burst into celebration in Wuhan -- where the coronavirus emerged in late 2019 -- after watching an outdoor livestream of Edward Gaming (EDG) winning the League of Legends crown.
The Shanghai-based professional gaming team defeated South Korean title-holders Damwon in Reykjavik on Saturday, sparking scenes of night-time jubilation in China.
Footage of the Wuhan party published by Chinese media showed a large crowd gathered outdoors in front of a big screen, with cheering fans waving flags bearing EDG's logo and packed into a square.
At least 2,000 people attended the unauthorised viewing party, the state-run People's Daily reported, and cited police as saying that the three organisers had failed to obtain a permit.
The organisers "caused hidden risks for safety and order at the scene of the activity", the People's Daily said.
"Some crazy eSports fans went a bit too far," the English-language version of the Global Times added.
Police detained the three organisers for up to 10 days and fined them at least 500 yuan ($80).
League of Legends (LoL) is a massively popular multiplayer online battle arena game and EDG's championship success was widely celebrated in China.
Images on Chinese social media showed chanting fans gathering at university dormitories and rushing out into the streets.
Unverified footage of what appeared to be the Wuhan celebrations were also widely viewed on Twitter.
China's eSports industry has exploded in recent years.
The market was worth more than 147 billion yuan in 2020, according to industry research firm iResearch.
A government crackdown on the video-game industry aimed at curbing children's screen time appears not to have dampened enthusiasm for the LoL win, with Xinhua news agency congratulating EDG and their success going viral online.

Vietnam has approved India's Covaxin vaccine for emergency use, the ninth to be endorsed in the country, the country's health ministry said on Wednesday.
The government said in July it was seeking to secure 15 million doses of the Covaxin vaccine made by Bharat Biotech.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern was busy telling the nation about important revisions to Covid-19 restrictions when an unexpected voice cut in: "mummy"?
In a situation familiar to parents worldwide, the leader's three-year-old daughter Neve had decided everything, even the affairs of state, could wait.
"You're meant to be in bed, darling," the 41-year-old Kiwi leader says, turning away from the Monday's Facebook livestream to offer an also-familiar observation-cum-plea.
"No," Neve responds undeterred, launching what ended up being protracted, and for Ardern, fruitless, negotiations.
"It's bedtime, darling, pop back to bed. I'll come and see you in a second. I'll come and see you in a minute. Okay, -- sorry, everybody," Ardern says with a wry smile.
"Well, that was a bedtime fail, wasn't it? I thought here's a moment I'll do a Facebook Live, It will be nice and safe. Does anyone else have kids escape like three, four times after bedtime? Thankfully, my mum's here so she can help out."
"Okay, where were we?" Ardern tried to continue. The little voice returns: "What's taking so long?"
"I'm sorry, darling, it is taking so long. Okay. I'm sorry, everyone. I'm going to just go and put Neve back to bed. Because this is well past her bedtime. Thanks for joining me."
While not as dramatic as the moment the children of Korea analyst Robert Kelly interrupting his 2017 BBC interview, it is not the first time Neve has stolen the limelight.
In 2018, Ardern became the second prime minister in the world -- after Pakistan's Benazir Bhutto -- to give birth while in office, later taking Neve onto the floor of the UN Assembly in New York.

The first draft of the "COP cover decision" asks countries to "revisit and strengthen the 2030 targets in their nationally determined contributions, as necessary to align with the Paris Agreement temperature goal by the end of 2022."
The draft also reminds countries that under the Paris Agreement they can submit new, more ambitious climate pledges at any time and for the first time calls for countries to phase out coal and fossil fuel subsidies.
It is being closely watched for what it might commit countries to do to bridge the gap between their current climate targets and the more ambitious action scientists say is needed to avert disastrous levels of warming.
Diplomats from the nearly 200 countries represented at COP26 will hunker down on Wednesday to negotiate a final text they are all willing to sign when the summit ends this weekend.
Poorer, climate-vulnerable countries have called for countries to cap warming at 1.5C - a temperature increase scientists say is just short of calamitous.
The push for more regular reviews of climate plans is seen as necessary because countries' current 2030 pledges would lead to 2.4C of warming.
The draft, which the UN released just before 0600 GMT, also calls on countries to "accelerate the phasing-out of coal and subsidies for fossil fuels," a demand of climate change campaigners and "urges" developed countries to "urgently scale-up" financial support for developing countries to respond to their needs to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

“A large number of our staff had negative reactions to the COVID booster shot given at a clinic over the weekend, resulting in absences today (Monday),” the district confessed on Facebook.
“As you may be aware, there is already a substitute teacher/staff shortage throughout the state of Michigan, further complicating the availability to cover those absences,” continued the statement.
In a statement to <a href="https://www.abc12.com/2021/11/08/saginaw-township-schools-closed-monday-because-staffing-shortage-will-reopen-tuesday/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">ABC12.com</a>, a Saginaw Twp. district rep explained the school’s closure was not due to Covid illnesses, but rather booster vaccine side effects.
“At first, the blame might be leaning towards COVID-19, but a district spokesperson told ABC12 News that a large number of staff members had negative reactions to the COVID-19 booster that they received over the weekend,” ABC12 reported Monday.
The school did not explain what vaccine was administered and did not elaborate on the specific side effects, earned a “COVID-19 vaccine information” fact-check badge from Facebook.

A draft list from the FDA showing <a href="https://www.infowars.com/posts/oops-fda-accidentally-shows-list-of-covid-vaccine-side-effects-including-myocarditis-autoimmune-disease-death/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">possible adverse reactions stemming from the vaccine</a> included myocarditis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, seizures and even death.
The school did not highlight the exact number of teachers affected.
It’s also unclear if Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate, requiring millions of Michigan workers including teachers to be vaccinated by January 4, is responsible for the state’s staff shortage.

As more school districts abide by the authoritarian vaccine edicts and jabs rollout for youngsters, we can expect not only to see more adverse reactions in school staff, but unfortunately in students as well.
