REPORT: Younger Males Are at a Higher Risk of Myocarditis Following Covid-19 Vaccine, VAERS Cases are “Just the Tip of the Iceberg”

<p><strong>A recent report authored by Peter McCullough, MD, and Jessica Rose, PHD, MSc, BSc, has shown that younger people are at a higher risk for myocarditis following the Covid-19 vaccine.</strong></p>
<p><a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/myocarditis/symptoms-causes/syc-20352539" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Myocarditis</a> is an inflammation of the myocardium – the heart muscle. It can reduce the heart’s ability to pump or cause abnormal heart rhythms, and severe myocarditis can weaken the heart so the body doesn’t get enough blood, which can lead to clots forming in your heart, potentially leading to a stroke or heart attack. Symptoms of myocarditis include chest pain, rapid or irregular heartbeats, or shortness of breath.</p>
<p>Younger people are at a higher risk for myocarditis than older groups, with the high-risk age population, reportedly being from puberty through to early 30s.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0146280621002267?v=s5" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">report</a>, titled “A Report on Myocarditis Adverse Events in the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) in Association with COVID-19 Injectable Biological Products”, analysed data from the US Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) in which patients had suffered from myocarditis following the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson Covid jabs.</p>
<p>The researchers found that: “A Report on Myocarditis Adverse Events in the U.S. Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) in Association with COVID-19 Injectable Biological Products.</p>
<p>“Within 8 weeks of the public offering of COVID-19 products to the 12-15-year-old age group, we found 19 times the expected number of myocarditis cases in the vaccination volunteers over background myocarditis rates for this age group.”</p>
<p>Additionally, the report states that a 5-fold increase in the rate of myocarditis was observed subsequent to the second dose as opposed to a single dose in 15-year-old males. A total of 67% of these cases took place following the Pfizer vaccine. The report found that out of the total myocarditis cases, 6 individuals died, of these, two were under 20 years of age – one of whom was 13.</p>
<p>“These findings suggest a markedly higher risk for myocarditis subsequent to COVID-19 injectable product use than for other known vaccines, and this is well above known background rates for myocarditis,” the report continues.</p>
<p>“COVID-19 injectable products are novel and have a genetic, pathogenic mechanism of action causing uncontrolled expression of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein within human cells.</p>
<p>“When you combine this fact with the temporal relationship of AE occurrence and reporting, biological plausibility of cause and effect, and the fact that these data are internally and externally consistent with emerging sources of clinical data, it supports a conclusion that the COVID-19 biological products are deterministic for the myocarditis cases observed after injection.”</p>
<p>The report states that in the US, approximately 56% of the total US population are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. As of July 9th, 2021, there have been 397,262 adverse events reported to VAERS, which the researchers state is a very “atypical” number when compared to the frequencies of adverse events reported in previous years.</p>

<p>The above graphs show the shocking contrast between what the VAERS count would be if the trend of the past 30 years continued through to the end of 2021: “~65,000 for the entire 2021 year as opposed to ∼400,000 over 6 months.”</p>
<p>Through analysing the VAERS data, Mccullough and Rose found that myocarditis reports in the context of the Covid-19 vaccine are “atypically high” when compared to the time before the jab was rolled out and also compared to the baseline levels of higher-risk groups.</p>

<p>The graph above shows the numbers of absolute numbers of myocarditis cases reported for 2021 from the date that the illness began.</p>
<p>“It is clear from this bar plot that the frequency of myocarditis cases reported to VAERS has increased starting at the beginning of June,” the report states.</p>
<p>“This is just shortly after the roll-out of injections into children aged 12-15 began. On May 10, 2021, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for BNT162b2 (Pfizer) vaccine in children aged 12-15. Of note, 67% of myocarditis cases were in the context of administration of BNT162b2.”</p>
<p>Researchers found that of the 559 reported cases of myocarditis logged to VAERS as of July 9th, 2021, 80 percent of the gender classification was male. Overall, 71 percent of all VAERS reports are made by females, revealing how dramatically high this number is. The reports of myocarditis coincide with the Covid-19 vaccine being rolled out for children aged 12-15, leading the researchers to conclude that the increased cases of myocarditis were occurring in this age group.</p>

<p>“41% of all myocarditis reports were made for children aged 10 through 20 and 72% of all myocarditis reports were made for young adults aged 10-30 years of age.”</p>
<p>Mccullough and Rose discovered that along with the higher rates of myocarditis found in children aged 12-15, these rates are more common in males. They found that the “distribution is right-skewed towards the younger age groups, and this is statistically significant (I=1.28), and males represent 80% of all cases.”</p>

<p>What is most telling, however, is that the report shows that myocarditis is more prevalent following a second dose of Covid-19 compared to just a single dose. The VAERS reports indicate that the illness is more highly associated with the Pfizer vaccine, the same jab which was rolled out for children aged 12 and upwards in the United States. “Myocarditis reports peak in frequency at 6X for dose 2 in 15-year-old males…regardless of age, myocarditis cases are more frequently reported following dose 2,” the authors write.</p>
<p>The <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.bhf.org.uk/informationsupport/conditions/myocarditis" target="_blank">cause of myocarditis</a> is often attributed to a viral, bacteria or fungal infection, a chest infection, or an autoimmune disease. However, the condition can also be caused by medicines or drugs, with some suffering from vaccine-induced myocarditis. In the context of Covid-19 vaccines, the average numbers for 2021 appear to be far higher than 2020 for all vaccine products combined.</p>

<p>“The average number of myocarditis reports in VAERS in the context of all vaccines combined for the past 3 years is 4: 11 (0.02% of total) reports were made in 2018, and 1 report was made for 2019 (0.002% of total) and 2020 (0.002% of total), respectively,” the report states.</p>
<p>“Myocarditis case rates for 2018-2021 reveal that the rates of myocarditis, when normalized to the number of fully vaccinated/injected individuals, are exceedingly higher in 2021 than for previous years.”</p>
<p>The researchers concluded that there is a high risk of myocarditis and cardiac events both from Covid-19 infection and the Covid vaccines, and the risks of which need to be further assessed. They continued, stating that due to the spontaneous reporting of events to VAERS, the reports logged so far are not rare, but instead, “just the tip of the iceberg.”</p>
<p>Mccullough and Rose wrote that it is apparent that there is a relationship between the Covid vaccine and myocarditis found in younger males, which has been overlooked or unreported following either a single dose or both doses of the jab. They also reiterate the fact that the vaccines are only approved for emergency use, therefore it is not fully understood what the effects of spike proteins could be on the body.</p>
<p>“Efficacy of these products needs to be assessed by immunological assays and long-term studies are required, while safety needs to be evaluated by rigorous clinical, laboratory and imaging assessments of severe reported adverse events such as CIRM. </p>
<p><strong>“It is reasonable to use the precautionary principle in this particular setting since an alarming number of reports are coming from young males between the ages of 12 and 15. Boys of these ages should be carefully monitored for warning signs of myocarditis which many may pass off such as pallor, chest pain, shortness of breath or lethargy, following dose 1 with the aim of seeking prompt evaluation and avoiding dose 2.”</strong></p>

<p><strong>A Judge has ordered the UK Goverment to submit evidence that justifies Covid-19 vaccination of children, giving them a deadline of Monday 11th October.</strong></p>
<p>The order from The Hon. Mr Justice Jay is most welcome after we exclusively revealed Thursday 30th September that since teens over the age of 15 had been given the Covid-19 vaccine <a href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/09/30/deaths-among-teenagers-have-increased-by-47-percent-since-covid-vaccination-began/">deaths among the age group had increased by 47% compared to the same period in 2020.</a> (See <strong><a href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/09/30/deaths-among-teenagers-have-increased-by-47-percent-since-covid-vaccination-began/">here</a></strong>)</p>
<p>We also then delved back into the Office for National Statistics data due to a suspicion we would find the majority of those deaths had been among teenage boys due to the risk of myocardtis, inflammation of the heart muscle, associated with the Pfizer vaccine and mainly occurring in younger males, as well as a correlation with a rise in emergency calls requesting an ambulance due to cardiac arrest, found in Public Health England data.</p>
<p>Unfortunately our fears were confirmed, as we exclusively revealed on Monday 4th October that <span><a href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/10/04/teen-boy-deaths-increased-by-63-percent-since-they-had-covid-vaccine/">deaths among teenage boys have increased by 63% in the UK since they started getting the Covid-19 vaccine</a></span>. <p>To add to that we then exclusively revealed on Tuesday 5th October that Chris Whitty’s decision to overrule the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation and advise the Government to offer the Covid-19 vaccine to all healthy secondary school children, has so far l<a href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/10/05/ons-data-shows-400-percent-increase-male-children-deaths-since-they-had-covid-vaccine/">ed to a 400% increase in deaths among male children compared to the same period in 2020.</a> (See <strong><a href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/10/05/ons-data-shows-400-percent-increase-male-children-deaths-since-they-had-covid-vaccine/">here</a></strong>)</p>
<p>However, people have been fighting in court to overturn the decision of the Chief Medical Officer for England that children should be given an experimental Covid-19 injection, but unfortunately to no avail so far.</p>
<p>The ‘Covid-19 Assembly’ and lawyer Francis Hoar had an application for an urgent hearing to pause the Covid-19 roll-out to under 18’s denied for a second time on September 2nd.</p>
<p>The Claimants had asked for just half a day for the Court to listen to oral argument to consider whether to pause the roll out of injections of experimental mRNA vaccine technology, producing increasing reports of clotting and other adverse effects including death, still under emergency authorisation and never before given to humans, to the whole of the healthy population of children aged 12-17.</p>
<p>The Court’s view was that to delay consideration of the Claimants’ application for 14 days to allow the government to prepare its response was not in fact a refusal. However, that delay had the practical effect of denying the urgent relief sought and left the full resources and machinery of the state to be put into gear.</p>
<p>Then on September 1th Covid-19 Assembly applied for a third time<strong> </strong>for the Court to listen to their argument, for just half a day, before the programme of mass injection of healthy children got underway.</p>
<p>However on the 17th September, the Court refused to allow the Claimants into Court before 28th September.</p>
<p>The Covid-19 Assembly then filed a claim to the Court of Appeal to overturn the Courts refusal to not allow an urgent hearing on the unnecessary vaccination of children, which can be read <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/17ymh5z1A7D4ebhFgTBDuhIY2UQOG37LP/view?usp=sharing"><span>here</span></a>.</p>
<p>Despite a last ditch attempt by the Government to persuade the Court of Appeal against it, the Court listed the case for an interim hearing on Wednesday 22nd September, unfortunately the appeal was refused and the case was still to be held on September 28th.</p>
<p>The outcome of the hearing on September 28th was as follows according to Covid-19 Assembly:</p>
<p><em>The Court has adjourned the matter to <strong>a further hearing to allow the government further time to respond to the case as set out most recently by the Claimants</strong>. This is because the JCVI and CMOs issued statements, and the Secretary of State made his decision to administer the mass vaccination, only after this claim had been issued. In response to those statements and that decision, the Claimants have necessarily had to amend the claims.    </em></p>
<p><em>The <strong>government had asked for the case to be struck out but it remains before the Court</strong>.  The <strong>Hon. Mr Justice Jay accepted that the Claimants’ barrister, Mr Francis Hoar, had done enough to persuade him there was an arguable case.  The Judge also rejected the government’s argument that consideration of the case should be limited to how it affects the two claimants.</strong>  In terms he accepted they were representative and were entitled to raise the issues for consideration with reference to the effect on the wider population.</em></p>
<p><em>However, the Court refused to order any immediate pause of the mass vaccination programme. Having heard submissions for the parties on how the case should proceed, the government seeking a long timetable and delay, the Claimants seeking a speedy hearing, <strong>the Court has given directions that the government submits further response and evidence by 11 October</strong> with the Claimants having to 15 October to reply. The Court will then reconsider the matter promptly. </em></p>

#CovidVaxExposed PART 4 Update: Pfizer Scientist Confronted, Project Veritas Video Goes Viral and James O’Keefe Has a Message for Mark Zuckerberg

<p class="has-text-align-justify"><strong>Project Veritas released the <a href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/10/05/pfizer-scientist-caught-on-film-stating-natural-antibodies-are-much-better-than-the-pfizer-covid-19-vaccine/">fourth video</a>, Part 4, of its ‘COVID vaccine investigative series’ yesterday.  It exposed three Pfizer officials saying that naturally acquired antibodies lead to equal, if not better, protection against the virus compared to the Covid injections.  One of those officials was Nick Karl a scientist at Pfizer.</strong></p>
<p class="has-text-align-justify">Karl was caught on camera saying: “When somebody is naturally immune — like they got COVID — they probably have more antibodies against the virus…When you actually get the virus, you’re going to start producing antibodies against multiple pieces of the virus…So, your antibodies are probably better at that point than the [COVID] vaccination.”</p>
<p class="has-text-align-justify">Within two hours of the video’s release, it had 600,000 views on Twitter and Karl had deleted his LinkedIn Profile.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-justify">Later in the day James O’Keefe caught up with Karl to ask him why he would keep such critical information from the public.  Although Karl had plenty to say to the Veritas journalist earlier, he was not happy when asked the same questions by O’Keefe.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-justify">The fourth Veritas video went viral and was trending on Twitter yesterday even though Project Veritas is banned on Twitter and James O’Keefe is <a href="https://www.projectveritas.com/news/breaking-james-okeefe-sues-twitter-in-new-york-supreme-court-for-false-and/">suing Twitter</a> for ‘false and defamatory’ statements following his ban in April.  That’s because content is king, said O’Keefe.</p>
<p class="has-text-align-justify">“The COVID pandemic, in tandem with this new vaccine, are the most important public health issues of our lifetimes. Meanwhile, we have people in power who prefer to keep secrets from the American people about these issues.</p>

On Bannons War Room, O’Keefe had a message for Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg: “Please do. Please do ban me.”</p>

Facebook’s whistleblower tells Congress how to regulate tech

<p>WASHINGTON, DC — US lawmakers have been angry at Facebook for years. Since as early as 2011, they have raised alarms about Facebook’s <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Technology/facebook-privacy-groups-site-tracks-users-supercookies-log/story?id=14673082">failures to protect users’ privacy</a>, its struggles combating misinformation on its platforms, and its <a href="https://www.congress.gov/event/115th-congress/senate-event/LC64510/text?s=1&r=59">impact on its users’ mental health</a>. But they haven’t passed any new laws addressing those issues.</p>
<p>Now, some key legislators are saying they have the catalyst they need to make real change: whistleblower and former Facebook employee Frances Haugen.</p>
<p>Haugen, once a product manager at the company, testified before the Senate Commerce subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Data Security on Tuesday in what lawmakers are describing as an urgent call to action to regulate Facebook. The whistleblower prompted a wave of media scrutiny of Facebook when she shared thousands of internal documents with the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-facebook-files-11631713039">Wall Street Journal</a>, the SEC, and Congress that show Facebook has known about the harms its products can cause but has downplayed this reality to lawmakers and the public. This proof, which has been missing from the conversation until now, reveals how Facebook conducted research that found its products can cause mental health issues, allow violent content to flourish, and promote polarizing reactions — and then largely ignored that research.</p>

<p>In a statement in response to Tuesday’s hearing, Facebook’s director of policy communications Lena Pietsch wrote that Haugen “worked for the company for less than two years, had no direct reports, never attended a decision-point meeting with C-level executives — and testified more than six times to not working on the subject matter in question.”</p>
<p>“We don’t agree with her characterization of the many issues she testified about,” wrote Pietsch. “Despite all this, we agree on one thing; it’s time to begin to create standard rules for the internet. It’s been 25 years since the rules for the internet have been updated, and instead of expecting the industry to make societal decisions that belong to legislators, it is time for Congress to act.”</p>
<p>In the past, congressional hearings about Facebook have often <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/2020/7/29/21347128/big-tech-antitrust-hearing-facebook-zuckerberg-amazon-bezos-apple-cook-google-pichai">descended into political grandstanding</a>, with lawmakers veering off-topic and into their own partisan grievances with the company. Some Republicans have focused on making <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/28/technology/evidence-of-anti-conservative-bias-by-platforms-remains-anecdotal.html">unproven accusations</a> that the social media company has an anti-conservative bias. At other times, lawmakers have made gaffes that reveal their seeming lack of basic technical knowledge — such as the infamous question by now-retired Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) about <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/senator-orrin-hatch-facebook-biz-model-zuckerberg/">how Facebook makes money</a>, or Sen. Richard Blumenthal’s recent question about “Finsta” during a <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2021/10/1/22704308/finsta-instagram-facebook-privacy-kids-safety-richard-blumenthal-blackburn">Senate subcommittee hearing</a> last Thursday.</p>
<p>This time, though, lawmakers across the aisle were notably focused and well-studied on the relevant — and tangible — issues at hand. They asked Haugen pointed questions about the harms Facebook can cause, particularly to teenagers and children, and how that can be resolved.</p>
<p>In return, Haugen was an eloquent witness. She broke down complicated topics like Facebook’s algorithmically ranked News Feed in an accessible manner. And she provided some of the clearest explanations yet to both Congress and the public as to what’s wrong with Facebook and how these issues can be fixed.</p>
<p>Haugen repeatedly called for lawmakers to create an outside regulatory agency that would have the power to request data from Facebook, particularly about how its algorithms work and the kind of content they amplify on the company’s social media platforms.</p>
<p>“As long as Facebook is operating in the dark, it is accountable to no one,” said Haugen in her opening testimony. Haugen argued that “a critical starting point for effective regulation is transparency: full access to data for research not directed by Facebook.”</p>
<p>In her written testimony shared ahead of the hearing, Haugen criticized <a href="https://www.vox.com/2020/1/28/21112253/facebook-content-moderation-system-supreme-court-oversight-board">Facebook’s existing quasi-independent oversight board</a> (which has no real legal power over Facebook) because she believes it is “blind” to Facebook’s inner workings.</p>
<p>“Right now, the only people in the world trained to analyze these experiences are people who grew up inside of Facebook or other social media companies,” said Haugen. “There needs to be a regulatory home where someone like me could do a tour of duty after working at a place like this,” she said.</p>

<p>Stanford law professor Nate Persily, who has previously worked directly with Facebook on academic partnerships in the past and who has acknowledged the limitations of those partnerships, recently called for <a href="https://twitter.com/persily/status/1445409819486216203">legislation</a> that would compel platforms like Facebook to share internal data with external researchers.</p>
<p>Data transparency isn’t exactly the most attention-grabbing concept, nor is it an easy topic to regulate. But as Recode has previously reported, many <a href="https://www.vox.com/22622070/facebook-data-covid-19-vaccine-misinformation-researchers-access-nyu-academics">leading social media experts</a> agree with Haugen that it’s a first step to meaningfully regulate Facebook.</p>
<p>Facebook’s algorithms power how its platforms work and what everyone sees on their News Feeds. Haugen said these powerful mechanisms shouldn’t operate in a black box that only Facebook controls and understands, and that they must be scrutinized and regulated.</p>
<p>Internal documents that Haugen revealed showed how a 2018 change to Facebook’s News Feed <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/facebook-algorithm-change-zuckerberg-11631654215">rewarded content that provokes more emotion in people</a> — particularly anger, because it prompts more engagement than any other emotion. Haugen and members of Congress also talked about how Facebook’s algorithms can also push teens toward toxic content, like those promoting eating disorders.</p>
<p>“I have spent most of my career on engagement-based rankings,” said Haugen, who in the past has worked at Google and Pinterest. “Facebook says, ‘We could do it safely because we have AI. The artificial intelligence will find the bad content that we know our engagement-based rankings is promoting,’” she said. But she warned that “Facebook’s own research says they cannot adequately identify” that dangerous content, and that as a result those algorithms are drawing out “extreme sentiment and division” in people.</p>
<p>This, Haugen stressed, is at the core of many of Facebook’s most urgent problems, and it needs oversight from Congress.</p>
<p>“I think [Haugen] has allowed us to get under the hood of Facebook,” said Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA). “We can now see how that company operates and how it is indifferent to the impact the algorithms have on young people in our country.”</p>
<p>Privacy wasn’t one of Haugen’s key focuses during testimony, but several lawmakers, including Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA), brought up the need for better privacy regulation.</p>
<p>Protecting people’s privacy on platforms like Facebook is an area in which Congress has introduced some of the most legislation so far, including updating the <a href="https://www.markey.senate.gov/news/press-releases/senators-markey-and-cassidy-propose-bipartisan-bill-to-update-childrens-online-privacy-rules">1998 Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)</a>, the <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2020/3/5/21166705/youtube-kids-act-markey-blumenthal-coppa-tiktok-ryans-toy-review">KIDS Act, which would force tech companies to severely limit</a> targeting advertising at children 16 or younger, and the SAFE DATA Act, which would create user rights to data <a href="https://www.wiley.law/newsletter-Oct-2020-PIF-Federal-Privacy-Law-Efforts-Move-Forward-in-Congress">transparency and ask for opt-in consent</a> for processing sensitive data. So it makes sense why this would be a key part of their potential plans to regulate Facebook.</p>

<p>“Passing a federal privacy standard has been long in the works. I put my first one in 2012 and I think it will be this Congress and this subcommittee that will lead the way,” said Blackburn.</p>
<p>Haugen agreed that how Facebook handles its users’ privacy is a key area of concern that regulators should focus on, but she also said she doesn’t believe privacy regulation is the only solution to mitigating Facebook’s harms to society.</p>
<p>“Facebook wants to trick you into thinking that privacy protections or changes to Section 230 alone will be sufficient,” said Haugen. “While important, they will not get to the core of the issue, which is that no one truly understands the destructive traits of Facebook except for Facebook. We can afford nothing less than full transparency.”</p>
<p>During the hearing, several senators brought up <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/2020/5/28/21273241/section-230-explained-trump-social-media-twitter-facebook">Section 230 — the landmark internet law that shields tech companies</a> from being sued for most kinds of illegal content their users post on their platforms.</p>

<p>Reforming Section 230 would be highly controversial. Even some policy organizations like the <a href="https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/12/section-230-good-actually">Electronic Frontier Foundation</a> and <a href="https://www.google.com/search?q=fight+for+the+future+section+230&oq=fight+for+the+future+section+230&aqs=chrome..69i57.4123j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8">Fight for the Future</a>, which heavily scrutinize tech companies, have argued that stripping this law away could entrench reigning tech giants because it would make it harder for smaller social media platforms with fewer content moderation resources to operate without facing costly lawsuits.</p>
<p>Haugen seemed to understand some of these nuances in her discussion of 230. She proposed for regulators to modify Section 230 to make companies legally liable for their algorithms promoting harmful content rather than specific users’ posts.</p>
<p>“I encourage reforming Section 230 decisions about algorithms. Modifying 230 around content — it gets very complicated because user-generated content is something companies have less control over,” said Haugen. “They have 100 percent control over algorithms.”</p>
<p>The leaders of the Senate subcommittee that brought Haugen to testify on Tuesday said they are going to keep Facebook in the spotlight and that they’ll hold more hearings in the future (they wouldn’t say when) about Facebook and other tech companies.</p>
<p>“She has really gripped the consciousness of Congress today and made a lasting and enduring difference in how we will regard Big Tech,” said Blumenthal. “Without any exaggeration, we are beginning now a different era — I hope it will be different — in holding Big Tech accountable.”</p>
<p>But Congress is still very much in the talking stage. None of the many bills that have been introduced over the years — such as a bill to prevent <a href="https://www.brookings.edu/blog/techtank/2021/07/27/senator-amy-klobuchar-seeks-to-quell-health-misinformation-on-social-media/">health misinformation on social media</a> or a proposed antitrust law to prevent <a href="https://deadline.com/2021/06/antitrust-tech-house-judiciary-google-facebook-amazon-apple-1234780024/">major tech companies from selling product lines they control</a> — are remotely close to passing. And while this moment feels different — and some senators, like Ed Markey, have been reintroducing bills in light of the new scrutiny — there’s a battle ahead for lawmakers if they are ready to fight.</p>
<p>Sen. Richard Blumenthal, who co-leads the subcommittee that held the hearing Tuesday, declined to say if he will subpoena Mark Zuckerberg or exactly when the next hearing would be. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, who co-leads with Blumenthal, said that change is coming “sooner rather than later” and that Congress is “close to bipartisan agreement.” But given the reality that Congress is still negotiating basic funding for the US government, trying to regulate Facebook effectively is going to take time as well as some remarkable cross-party coordination.</p>
<p>But the focus senators brought to today’s hearing shows that even this polarized Congress may be ready to unite — at least when it comes to regulating Facebook.</p>

<p>Australian medical tech manufacturer Ellume said it had recalled almost 200,000 at-home Covid-19 tests in the United States over an increased chance of false positives.</p>
<p>Ellume's rapid at-home coronavirus test last year became the first to receive emergency use authorisation in the US.</p>
<p>The US Food and Drug Administration issued an alert Tuesday over the "potential for false positive results with certain lots of the Ellume COVID-19 Home Test, due to a recently identified manufacturing issue".</p>
<p>"Negative results do not appear to be affected by the manufacturing issue," the statement said.</p>
<p>"The FDA is working closely with Ellume to assess the company's additional manufacturing checks and other corrective steps to help ensure that the issue is resolved."</p>
<p>A spokesman for Ellume told AFP on Wednesday that 195,000 of the 3.5 million tests shipped to the United States had been affected.</p>
<p>Among them were tests provided to the Department of Defense for distribution to community health programmes.</p>
<p>In a statement dated October 1, the company said the voluntary recall was ordered after false positive results were reported in some product batches at higher rates than expected.</p>
<p>"I offer my sincere apologies and the apologies of our entire company- for the stress or difficulties people may have experienced due to a false positive result," founder Sean Parsons said.</p>
<p>The firm said it had identified the cause of the issue and implemented additional controls, and had resumed distributing the tests to US retailers.</p>
<p>"We have and will continue to work diligently to ensure test accuracy, in all cases," Parsons added.</p>
