Video has emerged of a Tuesday event inside a Virginia college classroom wherein Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to nod in agreement as a student accused Israel of committing “ethnic genocide” against Palestinians. 
Harris responded to the student by saying she was “glad” the student spoke out, adding that “your truth cannot be suppressed”. Israeli media was quick to pick up on the episode which happened during an event focused on voting rights at George Mason University, and is likely to create a diplomatic headache for the Biden administration as Israeli leaders will demand answers.

During a Q&A session following a class that Harris had visited, the female student began by saying “a lot of taxpayer money is allocated for funding the military, whether it’s in backing Saudi Arabia or in Palestine.”
The student then referenced the extra $1 billion allocated in a defense spending bill passed by Congress days ago, which ‘the Squad’ had tried to strip out of the bill, but which later a tearful Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had voted “present” on, leaving questions of why she switched her “no” vote last minute. Here’s what the student said:

“But then just a few days ago there were funds allocated to continue backing Israel, which hurts my heart because it’s an ethnic genocide and a displacement of people — the same that happened in America — and I’m sure you’re aware of this,” she student explained to a nodding Kamala Harris.

Harris nodded at the student throughout the remarks, with the student ending by saying she had to express herself and speak out.
“I’m glad you did,” Harris began in response. “This is about the fact that your voice, your perspective, your experience, your truth should not be suppressed and it must be heard, right? And one of the things we’re fighting for in a democracy, right?”
As the Times of Israel emphasized in its headline, the Biden’s VP “doesn’t reject student’s ‘ethnic genocide’ claim against Israel” – which will surely send both Israeli officials and the powerful Israel lobby in the US into a frenzy…

The video clip has sparked furry among conservative, pro-Israeli commentators online who are demanding clarification. 
Harris had continued in addressing the student, “The point that you are making about policy that relates to Middle East policy, foreign policy, we still have healthy debates in our country about what is the right path, and nobody’s voice should be suppressed on that.”

While Harris’ office has yet to comment on the controversy stirred by her appearance at George Mason, Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri posted a statement denouncing the episode, tweeting, “Kamala Harris doesn’t have time to go the border, but she apparently has plenty of time to encourage anti-Israel, anti-Semitic falsehoods.”

<h4>Fox News host Tucker Carlson interviewed the attorney of imprisoned Marine Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller, who was thrown into the brig after publicly criticizing how the U.S. military mismanaged the withdrawal from Afghanistan ordered by Democrat President Joe Biden. Scheller has not been charged with any crime despite being held in prison at the time of publication.</h4>
“So that’s the man you want serving in you officer corps in a serious country,” Carlson said. “A person who takes his job seriously, who’s patriotic, who’s honest. Who demands accountability. And before you say, “It’s the military, they don’t have free speech, you’re not allowed to give a political statement,’ two points: One, that was not a political statement, and two, the contrast of openly partisan political statements from the leaders of the Pentagon.”
Carlson continued, “Mark Milley was openly thrilled by the election of Joe Biden. Was he punished for that/ No, he was elevated, and again, Congress just rewarded him and the entire leadership of the U.S. military with 24 extra billion dollars. But Stu Scheller, for telling the truth? Well, here’s what happened to him.”

The host then detailed the various punishments forced on Scheller, such as being forced to undergo a psychological evaluation and being thrown into prison. Speaking to Carlson, Scheller’s attorney Tony Buzbee stated, “I’ll tell you what’s more infuriating, is that today we had testimony in the Senate where uh, they tried to make the case that the withdrawal was an operational success. it’s not, of course, a success to the 13 families who lost their loved ones, and when somebody tried to speak out and say ‘Look, we we could have done this a lot better; we owed those marines and sailors and army better than that,’ they not only told him to shut up, [but] when he didn’t shut up they put him in jail.”
Buzbee added, “People are just coming together from all over the United States, the Pipe Hitter organization has raised already $200,000 for his defense, this is wrong and will not stand.”

Vaccinate for Global Democracy? The US Empire Turns Therapeutic

After twenty years of failure in Afghanistan, the US government is embarking upon yet another <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/10/31/forget-wwii-unwinnable-war-covid-like-vietnam/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">unwinnable war</a>.
This time around, however, the <a href="https://mises.org/library/living-reality-military-economic-fascism">military-industrial-congressional complex</a> isn’t pulling the strings.
In a Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/09/16/un-summit-fighting-pandemic-is-golden-opportunity-address-global-vaccine-inequity/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">editorial</a> published shortly before the United Nations General Assembly’s global summit on fighting the pandemic, editors made the case that President Joe Biden and European leaders should use the tools provided by the UN to “reach tangible outcomes to help the global south.”
Yes, while many states <a href="https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/legal-and-compliance/employment-law/pages/coronavirus-states-will-challenge-vaccine-mandate.aspx" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">challenge</a> Biden’s national vaccine mandate, legacy media pushes to turn the US into a world vaccine provider, making the case for “<a href="https://www.who.int/news/item/22-07-2021-vaccine-inequity-undermining-global-economic-recovery" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">vaccine equity</a>.” 
That includes serving as “the world’s arsenal of vaccines,” a goal <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2021/06/03/statement-by-president-joe-biden-on-global-vaccine-distribution/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">put forth</a> by Biden in early June.

What needs to happen now is to accelerate dose delivery [of covid-19 vaccines] to lower- and middle-income countries. As the White House plan for the summit notes, rich countries could swap places in delivery schedules with poorer countries, and expedite delivery of those doses already pledged….
China has been adept at vaccine diplomacy in poor corners of the world—and earning goodwill points. The summit is a chance for Mr. Biden to show that the United States will live up to his goal.

But what does living up to his goal really look like? Would foreign nationals have the ability to seek compensation for damages caused by the vaccine in a local or global court? Better yet, does anyone have a say on whether they get injected with a vaccine they do not want or trust?
<h4>From Bombs to Needles</h4>
Earlier this month, Biden unilaterally <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/live-updates/biden-covid-19-vaccine-mandates-announcement/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">decreed</a> that all businesses with a hundred or more employees must implement vaccine mandates or face hefty fines. Immediately after announcing his order, at least <a href="https://www.shrm.org/resourcesandtools/legal-and-compliance/employment-law/pages/coronavirus-states-will-challenge-vaccine-mandate.aspx" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">twenty-four state</a> representatives, including governors and attorney generals, vowed to resist. Many states already have laws forbidding such mandates and are <a href="https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/state/florida-ag-23-other-attorneys-threaten-to-sue-biden-administration-over-vaccine-mandate" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">unwilling to comply</a>.
At the heart of the debate are questions related to the vaccines’ efficacy, especially in light of the growing reports showing the currently available shots are <a href="https://www.medicaldaily.com/doctor-who-refuses-get-vaccinated-speaks-out-against-mandates-they-do-more-462276" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">harmful</a>, <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/sep/10/boys-more-at-risk-from-pfizer-jab-side-effect-than-covid-suggests-study" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">especially to the young</a>.
But that’s not the only problem.
When it comes to medical treatments, <a href="https://www.ama-assn.org/delivering-care/ethics/informed-consent" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">patients have a right to make a decision on whether they will or will not participate</a>. It is their body and their decision what ultimately happens to it. Furthermore, if a vaccine is indeed effective, <a href="https://mises.org/wire/debunking-bidens-claim-we-must-protect-vaccinated-unvaccinated">the vaccinated should not fear the unvaccinated</a>. There should be no major push by either the US government or its health czar, Dr. Anthony Fauci, to ensure all are vaccinated. The fact that there is, however, shows that this is yet another <a href="https://mises.org/wire/bidens-vaccine-mandates-its-about-power">fearmongering tactic</a>, put forth in order to coerce a greater number of Americans into participating in the novel medical experiment, all the while making no arrangements to ensure Americans have any legal protection in case something goes wrong.
As a matter of fact, Health and Human Services secretary Alex Azar <a href="http://govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2020-03-17/pdf/2020-05484.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">invoked the Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness Act</a> while President Donald Trump was still in the White House in order to shield the vaccine manufacturers from legal actions.
When Biden assumed the presidency, his administration failed to reverse the immunity rules protecting vaccine manufacturers. Until 2024, when the rules are set to expire, the American people are <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2020/12/16/covid-vaccine-side-effects-compensation-lawsuit.html" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">unable to hold</a> vaccine manufacturers, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the employers who mandate inoculation as a condition of employment accountable if they are severely injured.
With America serving as the world’s vaccine distributor, when will foreign countries begin to feel like they are guinea pigs in the US-backed experiment?
Instead of <a href="https://mises.org/wire/100-years-wilsonian-wars-democracy">spreading</a> “democracy” by bombing foreign nations, America will be spreading “health” by delivering vaccines produced by untouchable pharmaceutical conglomerates to some of the poorest countries in the world.
Is that what some are now calling the <a href="https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/opinion/take-a-leaf-from-world-war-ii-beware-the-rise-of-the-vaccine-industrial-complex" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">vaccine-</a> or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/case-against-covid-industrial-complex-pandemic-pharma-politicians-tech-profiting-2021-3" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">covid-industrial complex</a>?
In his Business Times <a href="https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/opinion/take-a-leaf-from-world-war-ii-beware-the-rise-of-the-vaccine-industrial-complex" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">piece</a> arguing for caution when it comes to private and government interests dictating covid policy, financial analyst Ahmed Sule wrote that much like the military-industrial complex benefits directly from prolonged conflicts around the world, the same could eventually happen for the pharmaceutical and biotech firms as well as the members of Congress whose campaign donations are directly tied to the distribution of the novel vaccines.

Since the end of World War II, a strong military-industrial complex has ensured massive profits for weapons suppliers in government procurement programmes and prolonged armed conflicts around the world. Could the same be possible for the preventive medical solutions to the pandemic? After all, in order to maintain the current valuations that companies which make Covid-related vaccines and diagnostic tests enjoy, the pandemic will have to become perpetual.

As Dr. Ron Paul <a href="http://ronpaulinstitute.org/archives/featured-articles/2021/september/06/authoritarianism-pandemic-is-the-real-threat/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">stated</a> recently, there’s good reason for people to resist vaccine mandates. Most importantly, “if [the] government can force people to take a potentially dangerous vaccine to protect against a hypothetical harm to others, the same reasoning would support the imposing of many additional liberty violations.”

Knowledge of the effects of government interference with market prices makes us comprehend the economic causes of a momentous historical event, the decline of ancient civilization.
It may be left undecided whether or not it is correct to call the economic organization of the Roman Empire capitalism. At any rate it is certain that the Roman Empire in the 2nd century, the age of the Antonines, the “good” emperors, had reached a high stage of the social division of labor and of interregional commerce. Several metropolitan centers, a considerable number of middle-sized towns, and many small towns were the seats of a refined civilization.
The inhabitants of these urban agglomerations were supplied with food and raw materials not only from the neighboring rural districts, but also from distant provinces. A part of these provisions flowed into the cities as revenue of their wealthy residents who owned landed property. But a considerable part was bought in exchange for the rural population’s purchases of the products of the city dwellers’ processing activities.
There was an extensive trade between the various regions of the vast empire. Not only in the processing industries, but also in agriculture there was a tendency toward further specialization. The various parts of the empire were no longer economically self-sufficient. They were interdependent.
What brought about the decline of the empire and the decay of its civilization was the disintegration of this economic interconnectedness, not the barbarian invasions. The alien aggressors merely took advantage of an opportunity which the internal weakness of the empire offered to them. From a military point of view the tribes which invaded the empire in the 4th and 5th centuries were not more formidable than the armies which the legions had easily defeated in earlier times. But the empire had changed. Its economic and social structure was already medieval.
The freedom that Rome granted to commerce and trade had always been restricted. With regard to the marketing of cereals and other vital necessities it was even more restricted than with regard to other commodities. It was deemed unfair and immoral to ask for grain, oil, and wine, the staples of these ages, more than the customary prices, and the municipal authorities were quick to check what they considered profiteering. Thus the evolution of an efficient wholesale trade in these commodities was prevented.
The policy of the annona, which was tantamount to a nationalization or municipalization of the grain trade, aimed at filling the gaps. But its effects were rather unsatisfactory. Grain was scarce in the urban agglomerations, and the agriculturists complained about the unremunerativeness of grain growing.<a href="https://mises.org/library/currency-debasement-and-social-collapse#footnote1_1coyks3">1</a>
The interference of the authorities upset the adjustment of supply to the rising demand.

The showdown came when in the political troubles of the 3rd and 4th centuries the emperors resorted to currency debasement. With the system of maximum prices, the practice of debasement completely paralyzed both the production and the marketing of the vital foodstuffs and disintegrated society’s economic organization. The more eagerness the authorities displayed in enforcing the maximum prices, the more desperate became the conditions of the urban masses dependent on the purchase of food.
Commerce in grain and other necessities vanished altogether.
To avoid starving, people deserted the cities, settled on the countryside, and tried to grow grain, oil, wine, and other necessities for themselves. On the other hand, the owners of the big estates restricted their excess production of cereals and began to produce in their farmhouses — the villae — the products of handicraft which they needed. For their big-scale farming, which was already seriously jeopardized because of the inefficiency of slave labor, lost its rationality completely when the opportunity to sell at remunerative prices disappeared.
As the owner of the estate could no longer sell in the cities, he could no longer patronize the urban artisans either. He was forced to look for a substitute to meet his needs by employing handicraftsmen on his own account in his villa. He discontinued big-scale farming and became a landlord receiving rents from tenants or sharecroppers. These coloni were either freed slaves or urban proletarians who settled in the villages and turned to tilling the soil.
A tendency toward the establishment of autarky of each landlord’s estate emerged. The economic function of the cities, of commerce, trade, and urban handicrafts, shrank. Italy and the provinces of the empire returned to a less advanced state of the social division of labor. The highly developed economic structure of ancient civilization retrograded to what is now known as the manorial organization of the Middle Ages.
The emperors were alarmed with that outcome, which undermined the financial and military power of their government. But their counteraction was futile as it did not affect the root of the evil. The compulsion and coercion to which they resorted could not reverse the trend toward social disintegration which, on the contrary, was caused precisely by too much compulsion and coercion.
No Roman was aware of the fact that the process was induced by the government’s interference with prices and by currency debasement. It was vain for the emperors to promulgate laws against the city dweller who “relicta civitate rus habitare maluerit.”<a href="https://mises.org/library/currency-debasement-and-social-collapse#footnote2_9jhngof">2</a>
The system of the leiturgia, the public services to be rendered by the wealthy citizens, only accelerated the retrogression of the division of labor. The laws concerning the special obligations of the shipowners, the navicularii, were no more successful in checking the decline of navigation than the laws concerning grain dealing in checking the shrinkage in the cities’ supply of agricultural products.
The marvelous civilization of antiquity perished because it did not adjust its moral code and its legal system to the requirements of the market economy. A social order is doomed if the actions which its normal functioning requires are rejected by the standards of morality, are declared illegal by the laws of the country, and are prosecuted as criminal by the courts and the police.
The Roman Empire crumbled to dust because it lacked the spirit of liberalism and free enterprise. The policy of interventionism and its political corollary, the Führer principle, decomposed the mighty empire as they will by necessity always disintegrate and destroy any social entity.

London:
A serving British police officer kidnapped a woman as she walked home, handcuffing her in a false arrest for breaking coronavirus restrictions, before raping and murdering her, a court was told on Wednesday.
The disappearance of <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/uk-cop-wayne-couzens-pleads-guilty-to-murder-of-sarah-everard-who-disappeared-on-walk-home-2482943" target="_self">Sarah Everard</a> during a national lockdown in March was one of Britain's most high-profile missing person investigations and sparked protests and a debate about women's safety on the streets.
Wayne Couzens, 48, who served with the elite diplomatic protection unit of London's Metropolitan Police, admitted her kidnapping, rape and murder in July.
Everard, who had been visiting a friend in Clapham, south London, was strangled then set on fire, with her remains found in woodland.
At a two-day sentencing hearing, prosecutor Tom Little said Couzens targeted the 33-year-old marketing executive on March 3, and accused her of breaking coronavirus rules.
Couzens, who was off-duty, kidnapped Everard in a "false arrest", by "handcuffing her and showing his warrant card", he added.
Security camera footage showed him holding up his warrant card and then handcuffing Everard before putting her into a hire car.
A couple driving past in a car also witnessed this, and assumed an undercover police officer was making an arrest, the lawyer added.
But he said Couzens exploited his knowledge and experience of police patrols enforcing lockdown restrictions and knew what language to use.
A former boyfriend had given evidence that Everard was "savvy and streetwise" and would not have got into a car with a stranger except "by force or manipulation", he added.
Couzens sat in the dock at London's Old Bailey with his head bowed, watched by members of Everard's family, as the judge considered whether to hand him a whole-life jail term.
The sentence was due to be announced on Thursday.
Before the hearing, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "We are sickened, angered and devastated by this man's crimes, which betray everything we stand for."
The force has sacked the officer and said his actions "raise many questions and concerns" but it would not comment further until after the sentencing.
Demonstrators outside the court held banners with slogans criticising the police such as "Met Police Blood On Your Hands" and let off smoke flares.
The government has pledged to improve legislation after Everard's murder sparked widespread anger at women's lack of safety in public spaces.
In July, the interior ministry said it would increase the currently low numbers of perpetrators brought to justice for offences including rape, domestic abuse, stalking and sexual harassment and work with police to "more effectively respond to street harassment".
Yet in another high profile case, primary school teacher Sabina Nessa was murdered earlier this month as she walked through a London park to meet a friend.
