‘We’re NEVER Getting Back to Normal’: Australian Nightmare Intensifies

The CEO of the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer says that normal life will return within a year, but not for those who don’t have regular COVID-19 vaccinations.
During an appearance on ABC This Week with George Stephanapoulos, Albert Bourla was asked about when he foresaw the end of the pandemic.
“Within a year, I think we will be able to come back to normal life,” said Bourla, although he made it very clear that this statement only applies to those who are prepared to take regular coronavirus booster shots.
“I don’t think that this means that variants will not be continuing coming,” Bourla added. “And I don’t think that this means that we should be able to live our lives without having vaccinations, basically.”
Bourla said that the “most likely scenario” was “annual re-vaccinations” due to the emergence of “new variants.”

The Pfizer’s CEO’s comments on annual vaccinations are interesting given that the FDA has so far only approved booster shots for elderly people and “high risk individuals.”
Bourla’s rhetoric is similar to that espoused by Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel, who <a href="https://summit.news/2021/09/23/ceo-of-moderna-says-even-young-will-need-to-take-vaccine-booster-shots-indefinitely/">said</a> last week that even younger people will have to get vaccine booster shots at least once every three years.
This once again underscores how a two tier society is being created where only those who submit to regular shots will be able to enjoy a relatively normal lifestyle.
For those who continue to refuse to be vaccinated, travel, employment and potentially even basic leisure activities will continue to be curtailed, leaving them in a de facto state of lockdown indefinitely.

A man pelted French President Emmanuel Macron with an egg while he was visiting a restaurant and hotel trade fair in the southeastern city of Lyon on Monday.

It was a startling disturbance of the warm welcome by fair attendees for the centrist president, not least after he announced that restaurant tips paid by credit card would no longer be taxed.
Eggs from irate protesters are a common occupational hazard for French politicians, and Macron is no exception.
When he was still a candidate for the presidency in 2017, an egg exploded against his head during a crowd visit at the national agriculture fair in Paris.
More recently, a man slapped him across the face while he was shaking hands with well-wishers in the southern city of Valence in June.
The 28-year-old man, who told a court he sympathised with the anti-government "yellow vest" protests of 2018 and 2019, was sentenced to four months in prison.
Macron's security detail is expected to be on high alert in coming months as the centrist leader multiplies his public appearances ahead of a widely expected re-election campaign.
So far he has not officially declared his candidacy for another five-year term in voting set for next April.

The world's poorest countries have said they may struggle to meet visa requirements and cover all COVID-19 quarantine costs for the COP26 climate summit, raising concerns that some might not be able to attend in person.
The UN conference, meant to spur countries to make bigger commitments to slash greenhouse gas emissions, is due to start in Glasgow on Oct. 31.
"We're still concerned about the possibility of getting our delegates to COP26, to negotiate key issues about the global response to climate change that will have such a profound effect on our people," Bhutan's Sonam Phuntsho Wangdi, chair of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) group, told Reuters.
Britain said last week that government ministers travelling to COP26, plus two staff members, would be exempt from quarantine requirements when they arrive.
But other delegates from countries on Britain's coronavirus "red list", such as Angola, Ethiopia and Haiti, must quarantine in a hotel for up to 10 days before attending the summit.
The government has said it will cover the cost of hotel quarantines for delegates from poorer nations.
Wangdi said some countries' delegations were not led by ministers, meaning they would need to visit a visa centre to complete their application to attend COP26.
Delegates from 25 of the poorer countries would have to leave their territories to go to visa centres in another state - a challenging process during the pandemic.
"Whether or not a minister is attending COP26 should not determine the possibility of technical negotiators and government representatives getting to Glasgow," Wangdi said.
Asked about the LDC group's concerns, a COP26 spokesperson said: "The participation of ministers from all nations in all parts of the world will be fundamental for achieving global agreement on climate outcomes."
Britain has resisted calls from campaigners to delay the COP26 summit over concerns that poorer countries battling COVID-19 will struggle to attend. COP26 has already been postponed by a year because of the pandemic.
The LDC group said it was unclear if the UK would cover the cost of extended hotel stays and rearranging flights if delegates from poorer countries contract COVID-19 at the summit and need to self-isolate before travelling home.
"Without this assurance it will be difficult for delegates to accept that financial risk," the group said.

Boston:
Scientists have developed a three-dimensional (3D) printed vaccine patch that is not just less painful and less invasive than a traditional vaccine, but also provides greater protection than a typical immunisation shot. 
A team at Stanford University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) in the US applied the vaccine patch directly to animal skin in their tests. The resulting immune response from the patch was 10 times greater than a vaccine injected into the arm muscle with a needle, according to the study, published in the journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
The technique uses 3D-printed micro needles lined up on a polymer patch that are barely long enough to reach the skin to deliver vaccine.
"In developing this technology, we hope to set the foundation for even more rapid global development of vaccines, at lower doses, in a pain- and anxiety-free manner," said lead study author Joseph M DeSimone, professor at Stanford University.
The ease and effectiveness of the new vaccine may lead to a novel way of delivering vaccines that is painless, less invasive, and can be self-administered.
Study results show the vaccine patch generated a significant T-cell and antigen-specific antibody response that was far greater than an injection delivered under the skin.
This increased immune response could economise vaccines doses, as a microneedle vaccine patch uses a smaller dose to generate a similar immune response to a vaccine delivered with a needle, the researchers said.
"Our approach allows us to directly 3D print the microneedles, which gives us lots of design latitude for making the best microneedles from a performance and cost point-of-view," said lead study author Shaomin Tian, researcher at the UNC School of Medicine.
The study overcomes some past challenges - through 3D printing, the microneedles can be easily customised to develop various vaccine patches for the flu, measles, hepatitis or COVID-19.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a stark reminder of the difference made with timely vaccination. However, getting a vaccine typically requires a visit to a clinic or hospital.
The researchers reiterated that there are currently issues that can hinder mass vaccination - from cold storage of vaccines to needing trained professionals who can give the shots.
The vaccine patches however, able to incorporate vaccine-coated microneedles that dissolve into the skin, could be shipped anywhere in the world without special handling, and people can apply the patch themselves, they said.
The ease of using a vaccine patch may also lead to higher vaccination rates, according to the researchers.
The team is now formulating RNA vaccines, like the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, into microneedle patches for future testing.

A few hours after the results of the German federal election were announced, German ambassador Walter J Lindner on Monday said that there will be no change in policy towards India.
As the new coalition government is all set to take shape, the German envoy told ANI that he does not see much change because India has its value anyway in European politics.
"Whoever be the chancellor in Germany will have close relations with India. India is so important because its 1.4 billion people India is in the region, which is not an easy area. We have excellent bilateral relations, then we have a new strategy for the Indo-Pacific. There are so many bilateral aspects from 2,000 companies in the country to 25,000 students in Germany to trade exchange there is so much so for every politician for every member of parliament for that matter it will be an important region."
"1.4 billion people on this planet, every fifth person is Indian, whatever has to be done on global aspects, be it fight against terrorism, global warming, population, climate change...there can't be a solution without India...," ambassador Lindner added.
German Ambassador Lindner on Monday said that the next government in Berlin will likely be formed by this Christmas after the left-leaning, Social Democrats (SPD) party won in the German federal election with over 25 per cent votes.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Lindner said, "As an optimist, I think we will have the next government in Germany by Christmas, negotiations among parties are going on."
According to the Federal Returning Officer, with all 299 of Germany's electoral districts reporting, the SDP won 25.7 per cent of the vote, beating out the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), the centrist-right, the conservative party of Chancellor Angela Merkel, which took 24.1 per cent.
The results show that there is still uncertainty over who will become the next leader of Germany. Merkel, who over 16 years cemented her position as one of the world's most successful political leaders, will stay in the job until a coalition deal is negotiated.
After Merkel's election win in September 2017, it took more than five months for a government to be formed. Both the SPD and the CDU with its coalition partner, the Christian Social Union (CSU), have said they want to begin coalition negotiations to form a new government.
Likely coalitions in Germany will either see the SPD or CDU/CSU forming a government with the Green Party, which took 14.8 per cent of the votes, and the liberal Free Democratic Party (FDP), with 11.5 per cent. SPD leader Olaf Scholz said voters wanted him to be the next chancellor.

Germany has said that it shares India's fears that Afghanistan may be used for spreading international terror and it has told the Taliban that its land should not be used even by neighbouring country Pakistan.
German envoy to India Walter J Lindner, in an exclusive interview to ANI said, "We are holding talks with Taliban, which we do at low level as we did in Doha. One of our conditions is that Taliban or Afghanistan that matter, there should be no more fostering of international terrorism by anyone whatsoever, be it by neighbour countries like Pakistan or by Afghanistan itself and to all the neighbouring countries we have the same message."
"We share the fear of India that international terrorism might get a boost through this Taliban victory and this should not be the case that is why it is one of the biggest worries that this should not be the case in future, our condition to talk to Taliban is also no to fostering this terrorism," Walter J Linder added.
Recently during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States, India discussed Pakistan's role in Afghanistan and the need for careful monitoring.
During a meeting between Vice President Kamala Harris and PM Modi, Ms Harris suo motu referred to Pakistan's role in that regard. She said that there were terror groups working there. She asked Pakistan to take action so that these groups do not impact security of US and India.
India in its several multilateral and bilateral engagements have been saying that Afghanistan should not be used for terrorism against India. India is also consistently saying that UN resolution 2593 should be the driving policy.
Asked whether Germany will recognize the Taliban government in Afghanistan, Ambassador Walter J. Lindner said, "Well you don't recognize governments you recognize countries and we are talking to them to get those out of the country who want to and also want to provide humanitarian assistance, so the main reasons why we are talking to them and that's it for the moment."
