What Governments Know, The Adam and Eve Story and Climate Change – We Need to Talk About the Causes of Climate Change

In the following sections we highlight three possible reasons for changes in climate that legacy media will not talk about: the Earth’s magnetic field, the Sun and geoengineering.</p> <p>Further reading:</p> <h3>First: Who is Chan Thomas?</h3> <p class="has-text-align-justify">Chan Thomas’ book, <em>The Adam and Eve Story</em>, was published in 1963 and soon after seized by the Central Intelligence Agency (“CIA”) with all evidence of its existence being scrubbed from history for the next fifty years.  A partially declassified or sanitised version was released by the CIA in 2013 under the Freedom of Information Act.  A copy of this sanitised version can be found in the CIA reading room <a href="https://www.cia.gov/readingroom/document/cia-rdp79b00752a000300070001-8">HERE</a>, and a copy is attached below:</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">There were supposedly 284 pages of which 55 were declassified.  However, a 1993 version of the book is available which comprises 127 pages and, apparently, contains all the information in a 1965 scanned copy of the original.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">The 1993 version can be <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/3340457.Chan_Thomas">purchased</a> or read for free on the <a href="https://archive.org/"><em>Internet Archive</em></a>, a non-profit online library, <a href="https://archive.org/details/ChanThomasTheAdamAndEveStoryTheHistoryOfCataclysms1993FullUNCENSORED/mode/2up">HERE</a>.  <em>Speculative History</em> provides a brief overview <a href="https://speculativehistoryonline.wordpress.com/2019/04/12/a-look-at-the-adam-and-eve-story-and-a-biography-of-its-elusive-author-chan-thomas/">HERE</a>.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify"><a href="https://endtimesand2019.wordpress.com/2020/02/14/chan-thomas-my-indirect-friend/">David Montaigne, Thomas’ biographer, wrote</a>: “Most people who know a little about Thomas still mistakenly believe that the CIA’s primary interest was the pole shift theory detailed in his book – when in reality, the book was included in the classified file only because it gave insights on the man. It was Thomas himself they were interested in when this was classified in the 1960s.  And it is the details on the man which remain only ‘partially declassified and sanitised for public view’ … When it comes to Thomas, the CIA is hiding much more than evidence of the coming catastrophic pole shift.”</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">Thomas was also a psychic and he knew that everyone has the ability to develop their ESP.  Thomas’ “public period,” when he officially existed, ended in 1974.  For about twenty years, Thomas disappeared from all public records. During this period, he was tied to the CIA and as a result he did most of his life’s work undercover.  Then in 1993, Thomas re-emerged and started publishing books again.</p> <h3>Pole Shift Theory</h3> <p class="has-text-align-justify">“Every time the cataclysmic concept has come to life, the “beast” has been stoned, burned at the stake, beaten to a pulp and buried with a vengeance; but the corpse simply won’t stay dead.” – <a href="https://archive.org/details/ChanThomasTheAdamAndEveStoryTheHistoryOfCataclysms1993FullUNCENSORED/page/n11/mode/2up?q=cataclysmic">The Adam and Eve Story</a> (1993), Chan Thomas, p12</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">There are two competing pole shift theories: Chan Thomas and Charles Hapgood.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">Hapgood’s theory, which was endorsed at the time by Albert Einstein, proposed that the geophysical poles periodically move by as much as up to 40 degrees through crustal displacements. While it is comforting to know that the Earth is unlikely to experience anything like the cataclysmic 90-degree pole shift predicted by Thomas, it is sobering to know that even a 20-degree pole shift devastated the worldwide Atlantean civilization 11,600 years ago.”</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">“The evidence suggests that pole shifts are both magnetic and geophysical, with a periodic cycle of recurring and predictable cataclysms involving huge earthquakes and tsunamis, changes in latitude and altitude, mass extinctions, and the destruction of civilizations, reducing them to myth and legend.  Evidence also suggests that the next pole shift is due in the 21st century.” – Pole Shift: Evidence Will Not Be Silenced, <a href="https://davidmontaigne.webs.com/">David Montaigne</a></p> <h3>The Grand Solar Minimum</h3> <p class="has-text-align-justify">According to <a href="https://joannenova.com.au/2019/02/nasa-hides-page-saying-the-sun-was-the-primary-climate-driver-and-clouds-and-particles-are-more-important-than-greenhouse-gases/">reports NASA had, until 2011, a page on their website</a> which said that the Sun is the major driver of Earth’s climate, that it controls all the major aspects, and we may be on the cusp of an ice age.  However, on NASA’s webpage, ‘<a href="https://climate.nasa.gov/nasa_science/science/">The Study of Earth as an Integrated System</a>’, the image’s caption includes: “Solar radiation is a primary driver of climate.”  It seems NASA has demoted the Sun from “the” primary driver to “a” primary driver.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">Roughly every 11 years, the Sun’s magnetic field completely flips. Activity on the surface of the Sun, such as sunspots, are caused by the Sun’s magnetic fields. One way to track the solar cycle is by counting the number of sunspots. The beginning of a solar cycle is a solar minimum, when the sun has the least sunspots.  The middle of the solar cycle is the solar maximum, or when the Sun has the most sunspots. As the cycle ends, it fades back to the solar minimum and then a new cycle begins.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">A <a href="https://www.thegrandsolarminimum.com/">Grand Solar Minimum (“GSM”)</a> occurs when several solar cycles exhibit lesser than average activity for decades or centuries. Solar cycles still occur during these GSM periods but are at a lower intensity than usual. GSM have shown some correlation with global and regional climate changes.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify"><a href="https://climate.nasa.gov/blog/2953/there-is-no-impending-mini-ice-age/">In 2020 NASA stated</a> researchers have predicted that coming solar cycles may exhibit extended periods of minimal activity but the models used are not robust enough to be considered conclusive. If a GSM were to occur it “would only serve to offset a few years of warming caused by human activities.”</p> <figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio"> <p><span class="embed-youtube">[embedded content]</span></p> <figcaption>Grand Solar Minimum Predicted: Cycle 25 Forecasted to be lowest in 200 years</figcaption> </figure> <p>However, <a href="http://www.raa-journal.org/raa/index.php/raa/article/view/4920/6080">a new study</a> was released in August 2021 which concluded the Sun, and not human emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2), may be the main cause of warmer temperatures in recent decades.  The United Nations (UN) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) “appears to display <a href="https://www.theepochtimes.com/challenging-un-study-finds-sun-not-co2-may-be-behind-global-warming_3950089.html">deliberate and systemic bias</a> in what views, studies, and data are included in its influential reports.”</p> <p>Further resources:</p> <h3>Geoengineering</h3> <p class="has-text-align-justify">Although there are countless forms of human activity affecting the climate, the global climate engineering programs are by far <a href="https://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/chemically-nucleated-winter-weather/">the single most destructive factor</a>.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">Stratospheric Aerosol Geoengineering (SAG) and Solar Radiation Management (SRM) are programs designed to saturate the stratosphere with reflective aerosols through the use of modified jet aircraft.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">According to <a href="https://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/climate-engineering-dangerous-proposal-or-lethal-reality/"><em>GeoEngineering Watch</em></a> these programs are: cited in approximately 150 patents and documents; openly discussed in U.S. Congressional hearings on weather modification; and, are outlined by numerous scientific agencies including: <a href="https://royalsocietypublishing.org/action/doSearch?AllField=Geoengineering+the+Climate">The Royal Society</a>; <a href="https://ceassessment.org/geoengineering-on-the-agenda-at-the-united-nations-environment-assembly/">United Nations</a>; and, <a href="https://www.rmets.org/search/node?keys=geoengineering">Royal Meteorological Society</a>.</p> <figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio"> <p><span class="embed-youtube">[embedded content]</span></p> <figcaption>United Nations Discussing Weather Modification, Chemtrails and Geoengineering (2014)</figcaption> </figure> <p class="has-text-align-justify">Extremely high levels of elements such as barium, aluminium, strontium and manganese have been detected in precipitation (rain) across the globe.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">One example is Shasta County, Northern California.  In 2006, when tested in a laboratory, a single rain event measured aluminium at 7 parts per billion (“ppb”).  Less than five years later, at the same location, a single rain event measured aluminium at 3450 ppb.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">In 2014 citizens from Shasta County attended a meeting with their Supervisors Board to hear 10 experts present their data proving that there is severe heavy metal contamination and ultra violet (UV) radiation across the Shasta County region.  Below is excerpts from that meeting and a fuller version can be found <a href="https://www.geoengineeringwatch.org/geoengineering-investigation-demanded-by-shasta-county-residents/">HERE</a>.</p> <figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"> <p><span class="embed-youtube">[embedded content]</span></p> <figcaption>Shasta County Supervisors: Pilots, Doctors and Scientists Testify about Chemtrails (Excerpts), 2014</figcaption> </figure> <p class="has-text-align-justify">A 1996 research paper, <em>Weather as a Force Multiplier: Owning the Weather in 2025</em>, was presented to <a href="https://www.airforcemag.com/article/1296study/">Air Force 2025</a> forecasting that by 2025 the Airforce could “<a href="https://weathermodificationhistory.com/weather-as-force-multiplier-owning-the-weather-in-2025/">own the weather</a>.”  And, according to <em>GeoEngineering Watch</em>, top US military leaders have repeatedly stated that climate change is the greatest national security threat of all.</p> <p class="has-text-align-justify">Global weather engineering operations are not a theory, they are a reality.  Who is carrying out these programs? IT’S OFFICIAL – Official data shows 8 times as many people have died due to the Covid Vaccines in 6 months than people who have died of Covid-19 in 18...

<p><strong><strong>We can officially confirm that the number of people to have died due to the Covid vaccines has surpassed the number of people who have died of Covid-19</strong></strong>, <strong>and we believe the data was released by accident.</strong></p> <p>According to official NHS data which can be viewed <a href="https://www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2021/06/COVID-19-total-announced-deaths-03-June-2021-weekly-file.xlsx" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">here</a>, from March 2020 up to the 25th August 2021; a period of 18 months, 90,147 Covid deaths within 28 days of a positive test have been recorded in England hospitals.</p> <p>Of these 86.315 all died of other serious pre-existing conditions including dementia, chronic kidney disease, chronic pulmonary disease, chronic neurological disease, and heart disease, but were added to the Covid statistics due to having received a positive test within 28 days of their death.</p> <p>Based on Public Health Scotland data seen in the following chart it would seem the top pre-existing condition of those who’ve died with a positive test result for Covid-19 has been dementia, followed by heart disease and chronic respiratory disease.</p> <p>When you consider that testing is essentially compulsory in hospitals, despite it not being written in law, and they use the <a href="https://theexpose.uk/2021/02/05/stop-pcr-test/" rel="noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">PCR test which cannot detect infection and can find anything it wants to find</a> if conducted at a high cycle rate, producing false positives; A further 123,796 people also died 21 days or more after having the Covid-19 vaccine, but it’s currently impossible to know the exact parameters for the further deaths unless ONS release the data in response to a Freedom of Information request.</p> <p>Nevertheless, the number of people who have died within 21 days of having the Covid-19 vaccine over a period of 6 months, which the ONS inadvertently revealed to be 30,305, is 8 times greater than the number of people who have died of Covid-19 over a period of 18 months; which NHS data shows to be 3,832.</p> <div BREAKING – Study finds the current Covid-19 Vaccines will cause ‘Vaccine Induced Enhanced Disease’ when infected with Delta

<p><strong>Covid-19 injections continue to be pushed as the only solution to the pandemic, even as “breakthrough” infections increasingly occur. But a group of Japanese researchers have released a <a href="https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.22.457114v1.full">scientific study</a> showing that the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant “is poised to acquire complete resistance” to the existing vaccines.</strong></p> <p><strong>What’s more, when four common mutations were introduced to the Delta variant, Pfizer’s mRNA injection enhanced its infectivity, causing it to become resistant. A Delta variant with three mutations has already allegedly emerged, which suggests it’s only a matter of time before a fourth mutation develops, at which point complete resistance to Pfizer’s jab may be imminent.</strong></p> <p>The spike protein used in mRNA COVID-19 vaccines consists of the alleged original SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, without mutations. Multiple variants of concern (VOC) have allegedly emerged, however, which have numerous mutations and are highly infectious. As mutations increase, so do concerns over vaccine resistance and enhanced infectivity. As the researchers <span><a href="https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.22.457114v1.full">explained in bioRxiv</a></span>, the preprint server for biology –</p> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="7"> <p><em>“The receptor binding domain (RBD) of the spike protein binds to the host cell receptor ACE2, and the interaction mediates membrane fusion during SARS-CoV-2 infection.</em></p> </blockquote> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="8"> <p><em>Neutralizing antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 are mainly directed to the RBD and block the interaction between the RBD and ACE2. Most SARS-CoV-2 variants have acquired mutations in the neutralizing antibody epitopes of the RBD, resulting in escape from neutralizing antibodies.”</em></p> </blockquote> <p>When a single mutation was added to the Delta spike, most of the anti-RBD antibodies still recognized it. This wasn’t the case with four mutations, however, which the researchers called Delta 4+. The US and UK have also confirmed they are about to follow suit.</p> <p>A number of experts have raised concerns that Covid-19 injections and the mass vaccination program could worsen the pandemic by triggering the development of new variants, via a concept known as antigenic, or immune, escape.</p> <p>A general principle in biology, vaccinology and microbiology is that if you put living organisms like bacteria or viruses under pressure, via antibiotics, antibodies or chemotherapeutics, for example, but don’t kill them off completely, you can inadvertently encourage their mutation into more virulent strains. Those that escape your immune system end up surviving and selecting mutations to ensure their further survival.</p> <p><a href="https://www.geertvandenbossche.org/">Geert Vanden Bossche</a>, Ph.D., a vaccinology expert and former global director of vaccine programs, including work for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is among those who have <span><a href="https://37b32f5a-6ed9-4d6d-b3e1-5ec648ad9ed9.filesusr.com/ugd/28d8fe_266039aeb27a4465988c37adec9cd1dc.pdf">warned about immune escape</a></span> due to the pressure being placed upon the virus during mass vaccination.</p> <p>“It will have a very tough time … and a lot of these microorganisms will die,” Bossche says. “But if you cannot really kill them all, if you cannot prevent, completely, the infection and if there are still some microorganisms that can replicate despite this huge pressure, they will start to select mutations that enable them to survive.”⁷</p> <p>COVID-19 has a high capacity for mutation but, according to Bossche, if the virus isn’t under pressure, it won’t necessarily see a need to select mutations to, for instance, become more infectious. But if you put it under pressure, as is occurring during the mass vaccination campaign — or as Bossche calls it the “one big experiment” — this may change.</p> <p>Dr. Peter McCullough — an internist, cardiologist, epidemiologist and a full professor of medicine at Texas A&M College of Medicine in Dallas, who is also the editor of two medical journals and has published hundreds of studies in the literature — is also concerned about immune escape:</p> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="11"> <p><em>“If we keep this up with the injections, there is going to be one variant after another … We’re playing with fire here with this mass vaccination … My interpretation as an internist and cardiologist — I’m a trained epidemiologist, I’ve literally done a year of intense COVID research and training — I’m going to tell you, I think this Delta outbreak that we have right now is the product of mass vaccination.</em></p> </blockquote> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="7"> <p>“<em>If we didn’t have the jab, we would have been better off. We had already treated this down to a very acceptable level.”</em></p> </blockquote> <figure class="wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-wp-embed is-provider-bitchute wp-block-embed-bitchute"></figure> <h4>Mass Vaccination Driving Vaccine-Resistant Mutants</h4> <p>Another <span><a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-95025-3?utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=commission_junction&utm_campaign=3_nsn6445_deeplink_PID100052172&utm_content=deeplink">study</a></span> — based on a mathematical model — simulates how vaccination rates and the rate of viral transmission influence SARS-CoV-2 variants. They found that a worst-case scenario can develop when a large percentage of a population is vaccinated but viral transmission remains high — much as it is now. This represents the prime scenario for the development of resistant mutant strains. As noted in the <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-021-95025-3?utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=commission_junction&utm_campaign=3_nsn6445_deeplink_PID100052172&utm_content=deeplink"><span>study, published in Scientific Reports</span></a> –</p> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="7"> <p><em>“… [A] counterintuitive result of our analysis is that the highest risk of resistant strain establishment occurs when a large fraction of the population has already been vaccinated but the transmission is not controlled.</em></p> </blockquote> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="8"> <p><em>Similar conclusions have been reached in a SIR model of the ongoing pandemic and a model of pathogen escape from host immunity. Furthermore, empirical data consistent with this result has been reported for influenza.”</em></p> </blockquote> <p>It’s very similar to the development of antibiotic resistance, during which bacteria mutate and get stronger to survive the assault of antibacterial agents. Covid-19 injections do not block infection completely; they allow infection to occur and may lessen symptoms, but during that time viruses can mutate to evade the immune system.</p> <p>In an unvaccinated person, the virus does not encounter the same evolutionary pressure to mutate into something stronger but, <span><a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/02/09/965703047/vaccines-could-drive-the-evolution-of-more-covid-19-mutants">according to Paul Bieniasz</a></span>, a Howard Hughes investigator at the Rockefeller University, partially vaccinated individuals “might serve as sort of a breeding ground for the virus to acquire new mutations.”</p> <p>Already, variants have emerged that are showing signs of vaccine resistance. August 30th, 2021, the <span><a href="https://www.who.int/en/activities/tracking-SARS-CoV-2-variants/">World Health Organisation highlighted</a></span> the ‘mu’ variant as a variant of interest (VOI), stating it has “a constellation of mutations that indicate potential properties of immune escape.”</p> <p>As of August 31, 2021, 39 countries had reported mu cases. The ‘lambda’ variant, which WHO designated as a VOI on June 14, 2021, also shows signs of increased infectivity and resistance to vaccines. Writing in <span><a href="https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.06.28.21259673v1.full">medRxiv, researchers from Chile</a></span> noted –</p> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="7"> <p><em>“Our results indicate that mutations present in the spike protein of the Lambda variant of interest confer increased infectivity and immune escape from neutralizing antibodies elicited by CoronaVac.</em></p> </blockquote> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="8"> <p><em>These data reinforce the idea that massive vaccination campaigns in countries with high SARS-CoV-2 circulation must be accompanied by strict genomic surveillance allowing the identification of new isolates carrying spike mutations and immunology studies aimed to determine the impact of these mutations in immune escape and vaccines breakthrough.”</em></p> </blockquote> <h4>Is Natural Immunity Superior for Variants?</h4> <p>As further evidence of the Covid-19 injections waning effectiveness and the superiority of natural immunity, <span><a href="https://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/309762">data presented July 17th, 2021, to the Israeli Health Ministry</a></span> revealed that, of the more than 7,700 Covid-19 cases reported since May 2021, only 72 occurred in people who had previously had COVID-19 — a rate of less than 1%. In contrast, more than 3,000 cases — or approximately 40% — occurred in people who had received a COVID-19 vaccine.</p> <p>In other words, those who were vaccinated were 6.72 times — nearly 700% — more likely to develop Covid-19 than those who had natural immunity from a prior infection. Speaking with journalist Daniel Horowitz, pathologist Dr. Ryan Cole explained that natural immunity produces broad immunity that can’t be matched by vaccination –</p> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="11"> <p><em>“A natural infection induces hundreds upon hundreds of antibodies against all proteins of the virus, including the envelope, the membrane, the nucleocapsid, and the spike. Dozens upon dozens of these antibodies neutralize the virus when encountered again.</em></p> </blockquote> <blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="11"> <p><em>Additionally, because of the immune system exposure to these numerous proteins (epitomes), our T cells mount a robust memory, as well. Our T cells are the ‘marines’ of the immune system and the first line of defense against pathogens. T cell memory to those infected with SARSCOV1 is at 17 years and running still.”</em></p> </blockquote> <p>A retrospective <span><a href="https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.08.24.21262415v1">observational study published August</a></span> 25th 2021 also found that natural immunity is superior to immunity from Covid-19 jabs, with researchers stating, “This study demonstrated that natural immunity confers longer lasting and stronger protection against infection, symptomatic disease and hospitalization caused by the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2, compared to the BNT162b2 two-dose vaccine-induced immunity.”</p> <p>Further, <span><a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03647-4">according to a team of researchers</a></span> from the Washington University School of Medicine, if you’ve had Covid-19 — even a mild case — you’re likely to be immune for life, as is the case with recovery from many infectious agents.</p> <p>Unfortunately, health officials aren’t making a distinction for those who have recovered from Covid-19 and continue to recommend injections for all, which may be adding fuel SpaceX just sent four civilians and soon you can buy the stuff they took into orbit

<p>On Wednesday night, SpaceX’s Inspiration4 mission launched the first-ever all-civilian crew into Earth’s orbit. With the help of companies including Sam Adams and Martin Guitars, the three-day trip to space aims to raise $200 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in what amounts to a charitable spin on the emerging market for <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/22589197/space-travel-tourism-bezos-branson-rockets-blue-origin-virgin-galactic-spacex">very expensive joyrides to space</a>. The fact that the mission is filled with branding opportunities isn’t surprising, given that private space launches are already massive multichannel streaming and media events.</p> <p>Jared Isaacman, the billionaire founder and CEO of the e-commerce company Ship4Payments, is funding the much-publicized trip. The crew also includes the mission’s pilot, Sian Proctor, a geology professor; Hayley Arceneaux, <a href="https://www.stjude.org/inspire/series/storied-lives/st-jude-cancer-survivor-hayley-arceneaux-hope-inspiration4-worlds-first-all-civilian-space-flight.html">a St. Jude physician assistant</a>; and <a href="https://www.space.com/chris-sembroski-inspiration4-spacex-mission">Chris Sembroski</a>, an engineer who <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/01/science/spacex-jared-isaacman.html">won his ticket in a raffle</a>. None of the passengers are professional astronauts, and they’ll be relying on SpaceX’s autonomous Crew Dragon capsule to ensure the mission goes smoothly.</p> <div> <div>[embedded content]</div> </div> <p>The Inspiration4 capsule took off a little after 8pm ET and was carried into space by SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket before entering Earth’s orbit around 80 miles beyond the International Space Station (ISS). After about three days of zero gravity and magnificent views — not to mention activities such as a ukulele performance and <a href="https://www.thecut.com/2021/09/how-hayley-arceneaux-gets-it-done.html">a video call to a St. Jude patient</a> — the crew will return to Earth, and in late September, Netflix will release a feature-length finale of its five-part reality TV series about the mission. (The first four episodes of the show are already available to watch, and Netflix is livestreaming the launch on its YouTube page.)</p> <p>The mission also involves a motley payload of gear and collectibles, including merchandise that will be put up for sale in a charity auction after the crew returns to Earth. Those items range from space-themed watches made by IWC to stuffed rocket-ship toys based on characters from the animated Netflix series <em>Space Racers</em>. There’s a <a href="https://www.mcall.com/news/breaking/mc-biz-martin-guitar-ukelele-in-space-20210909-jatpwxfhebdvxofzsvyzmjylqe-story.html">$2,000 Martin Guitar ukulele</a> that Sembroski will play on board. And the Inspiration4’s official beer maker, Sam Adams, also arranged for 66 pounds of hops to go to space and will brew beer with them once the mission lands (the beer will be available for purchase later in the fall). Perhaps the weirdest of the items is a slew of <a href="https://www.vox.com/the-goods/22313936/non-fungible-tokens-crypto-explained">non-fungible tokens</a> stored on iPhones, including an NFT recording of a Kings of Leon song that’s set to become the first music NFT ever played in space. NASA, a government agency subject to congressional oversight, has traditionally restricted the commercialization of space missions. But as the number of <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/22589197/space-travel-tourism-bezos-branson-rockets-blue-origin-virgin-galactic-spacex">non-NASA space flights has grown</a>, so have opportunities for space-bound merchandise and product placement. Now, because commercial space companies don’t necessarily operate under NASA’s strict restrictions, there’s a race to seize new marketing opportunities in the cosmos: namely, sending products to space before selling them back on Earth.</p> <p>NASA itself doesn’t typically sell stuff that’s been to space, but items from NASA missions have found their way to the market in the past. Meanwhile, astronauts are civil servants and are not legally allowed to personally profit from their positions until they retire from government work, limiting when they can sell any personal items they’re allowed to bring on their missions. Other valuable items that have been to space on NASA missions are typically offered to museums or, on rare occasions, sold off by the government.</p> <p>Some of the most remarkable items that have made the trip to space and back before being sold to the public have come from astronauts from the <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2014/05/14/tech/web/apollo-space-auction/index.html">Gemini, Apollo, and Mercury programs</a>, some of whom happened to save equipment from their missions. Regulations surrounding what astronauts could keep from these initial missions <a href="https://www.npr.org/2012/01/09/144923154/nasa-challenges-sale-of-apollo-13-artifact">amounted to verbal agreements</a> at the time, which has led to <a href="https://www.vox.com/the-goods/2019/7/16/20694802/apollo-11-memorabilia-auction-moon-landing-tapes-anniversary">some controversy</a> over who had the right to the artifacts. But in 2012, President Barack Obama signed a bill into law confirming that these astronauts indeed had ownership rights <a href="https://spacenews.com/obama-signs-astronaut-artifacts-bill-law/">over many of these mementos</a>. Now, these items sell for hefty sums: One bag from the Apollo 11 mission that was used by Neil Armstrong to carry samples of moon dust <a href="https://www.sothebys.com/en/auctions/ecatalogue/2017/space-exploration-n09759/lot.102.html">sold at Sotheby’s in 2017 for $1.8 million</a>.</p> <div> <div>[embedded content]</div> </div> <p>NASA also has strict rules against advertising or endorsing products, and it makes very little off of merchandise with branding or iconography. While the space agency’s various logos have appeared on everything from <a href="https://www.vans.com/shop/ProductDisplay?storeId=10165&urlLangId=-36&productId=3829618&urlRequestType=Base&categoryId=1346789&langId=-36&catalogId=11261">Vans shoes</a> to <a href="https://www.forever21.com/us/2000399934.html">Forever 21 tops</a>, the image is in the public domain, which means it’s free for anyone to use.</p> <p>“People have seen what the historic flown items have sold for and understand that there’s a market for that material, and that those things are valuable and collectible,” said Cassandra Hatton, Sotheby’s global head of science and pop culture, who works with astronauts on memento auctions. “The reason why they were flown originally — there was no commercial purpose behind it. Their value really is historic.”</p> <p>NASA has started to welcome some commercial deals in recent years. In 2019, the <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/09/17/tech/estee-lauder-iss-nasa-advertisement-scn/index.html">space agency formally announced</a> that it would allow 90 hours of crew time annually for astronauts to pursue marketing activities commissioned by private companies. For instance, Estée Lauder last year <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-09-26/nasa-rocket-launch-to-iss-will-be-used-for-estee-lauder-el-ads">paid astronauts</a> to take pictures of a face serum in zero gravity on the ISS. The ISS National Lab has also <a href="https://www.gameplan-a.com/2020/08/how-to-create-for-sports-in-space-the-adidas-experience/">partnered with Adidas</a> to test its soccer ball on the station, though it’s unclear how useful it is to test a soccer ball in space.</p> <p>All this means that product placement and promotional stunts in space have historically happened without the US space administration. They have, though, had help from Roscosmos, the Russian equivalent of NASA. Over the past several decades, Russia’s space agency has helped advertise <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1997/08/21/mir-boosts-israeli-milk/6399ff35-d1e8-4f95-973f-ea3566b94ea1/">milk</a>, <a href="https://www.space.com/37263-commercials-in-space.html">ramen</a>, <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2019/04/pepsi-advertisement-space/587608/">Pepsi</a>, and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB6tVUiNTNk">even Pizza Hut personal pizzas</a>. And if Stanley Kubrick’s <em>2001: A Space Odyssey</em> is any indication of what’s to come — the movie <a href="https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20120712-where-is-hiltons-lunar-hotel">featured a Hilton hotel on the moon</a> — the trend of private companies using space as a marketing opportunity will only grow.</p> <p>“This exploration of space is not just about exploring the scientific or technical frontiers,” explains Scott Pace, director of George Washington University’s Space Policy Institute. “It’s also exploring about, you know, where can the economy go? Where do we expand economic activities beyond the Earth?”</p> <p>Three private space companies have already begun the process of launching very wealthy civilians into space: Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin, Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic, and now Elon Musk’s SpaceX. All three companies have not only sold their own merchandise but have also cleared the way for space-themed branding and marketing opportunities.</p> <p>Virgin Galactic, for example, partnered with Under Armour to sell branded <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/10/16/science/virgin-galactic-spacesuit.html">sportswear</a>, including the “<a href="https://about.underarmour.com/news/2021/07/virgin-galactic-spaceflight-capsule-collection">spacewear</a>” that Virgin Galactic customers wear on their flights and take home afterward. The space tourism company also collaborated with Land Rover to create an Astronaut Edition Range Rover that’s only available to people <a href="https://www.virgingalactic.com/articles/introducing-the-astronaut-edition-range-rover/">who have purchased tickets on a Virgin Galactic flight</a>. The SUV <a href="https://media.landrover.com/news/2019/05/range-rover-reaches-new-heights-astronaut-edition-built-celebrate-partnership-virgin?utm_medium=social&utm_source=YouTube.com&utm_campaign=L405_Virgin%20Galactic_Range%20Rover%20(L405)9&utm_content=CTA%20to%20DX_LR-GL1954">includes</a> a space plane-shaped puddle light, as well as cup holders made out of a piece of the landing skid from one of Virgin Galactic’s first flights.</p> <div> <div>[embedded content]</div> </div> <p>Blue Origin similarly used <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/22583997/billionaires-blue-origin-elon-musk-jeff-bezos-rockets-planes-commercial-space-tourism">the launch of its first crewed mission</a>, which included Bezos himself, to debut the first electric vehicle from <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/22649283/rivian-ipo-tesla-suv-pickup-electric-vehicles-ev">Rivian</a> (one of the automaker’s biggest investors is Amazon, where Bezos used to work).</p> <p>A few of these kinds of marketing opportunities, however, happen more serendipitously. After Bezos threw Skittles across the space capsule on <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/22583997/billionaires-blue-origin-elon-musk-jeff-bezos-rockets-planes-commercial-space-tourism">his Blue Origin flight</a> in July, for instance, Skittles quickly announced it would release a limited-time candy pack called “Zero-G Skittles.” The candymaker told Recode the move was not coordinated ahead of time.</p> <p>Though the trend in space-based branding and marketing campaigns seems to showcase the worst qualities of American capitalism, some argue there’s a greater good in it all. Most people can’t afford a ticket to space, as prices for space tourism missions are still in <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/22570789/richard-branson-elon-musk-jeff-bezos-spacex-blue-origin-virgin-galactic">the hundreds of thousands of dollars</a>. But merchandise and collectibles from these commercial missions mean private space firms can still sell consumers the feeling that they’re at least part of this moment in space history for a lot less money.</p> <p>“By flying our brands, we get to fly along with them,” Robert Pearlman, <a href="http://www.collectspace.com/about.html">a space historian</a> who runs the space collectibles website collectSpace, told Recode. “We get to see a little bit more of ourselves in how spaceflight unfolds and say, ‘Yeah, I may not be able to afford a flight to space, but I eat Skittles.’”</p> <p>Sponsored content from celebrities in space might not be far away, either. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/celebrities-reserve-tickets-to-fly-space-richard-branson-virgin-galactic-2021-7">Plenty of celebrities</a> have already reserved tickets on Virgin Galactic, and Virgin Galactic already has plans to bring <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/07/20/kellie-gerardi-prepares-for-first-spaceflight-with-virgin-galactic.html">a TikTok science influencer</a> on one of its upcoming flights. Meanwhile, the private spaceflight company Axiom Space, which has <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/02/axiom-space-expands-spacex-deal-for-private-crew-launches-to-iss-.html">contracted several flights from SpaceX</a>, is offering a space-themed “content innovation platform” to help companies do product demonstrations and create ads in space. More <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/08/05/tech/who-wants-to-be-an-astronaut-space-hero-reality-television-scn/index.html">space-based reality TV</a> is in the works, too, including competition shows that aim to send civilians into space. The Discovery Channel is developing one called <em>Who Wants to Be an Astronaut</em>, and earlier this year, NASA signed off on a show called <em>Space Hero</em> that will send a lucky contestant to the ISS.</p> <p>While commercial space travel feels exciting right now, the novelty of billionaires and ordinary people traveling to space for fun might not last forever. But keenly aware of the historic nature of its flight, the Inspiration4 mission is trying to capitalize on the enthusiasm — for charity — that comes with such an event. Fewer than than 500 exemptions are expected to be granted to holders of the temporary Activity (subclass 408) "Post Covid-19 Economic Recovery Event" visas during the next 10 months, before the the program is designed to expire.</p> <p>"This government's initiatives to bring top talent to Australia are cementing our economic recovery," Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews said in an emailed statement. "Returning Australians remain the priority, however this automatic travel exemption recognizes the importance of significant investment."</p> <p>At the start of the pandemic in March 2021, Australia implemented a ban on non-citizens and non-residents from entering the nation that's exacerbated skills shortages in some key industries and services. Strict caps have also been placed on its own citizens; as of late July, some 38,000 Australians were still stranded abroad.</p> <p>The measures, some of the strictest in the world, earned the country the nickname "Fortress Australia." In recent months, the government cut international arrivals by 50% and barred non-resident citizens who enter the country from leaving again to reduce pressure on a quarantine system that's being tested by the delta variant.</p> <p>That strain seeded itself in Sydney in mid-June; now around half the nation's population of 26 million people are in lockdown as authorities seek stem an outbreak that's infecting more than 1,500 people a day. New South Wales, the most-populous state, is seeking to start remove lockdown restrictions and start allowing international travel again later this year when vaccination thresholds are reached.</p> <p>The government's automatic exemption for skilled non-Australians will be restricted to businesses deemed by the Global Business and Attraction Taskforce as likely to make a significant contribution to economy, including investment value and job creation potential. Arrivals will still need to meet all standard health requirements and quarantine protocols, as administered by states and territories.</p> <p>"These visa holders are bringing the skills, investment, and new ideas that employ Australians and keep us internationally competitive for years to come," Andrews said in the statement.
