Video Shows Angry French Shoppers Being Blocked From Entering Supermarket Because They Don’t Have COVID Passports

A British man in Singapore was handed a 6 week jail sentence for not wearing a face mask while a judge also ordered the man to undergo a “psychiatric assessment” because he argued against the efficacy of face coverings in court.
40-year-old Benjamin Glynn was arrested after footage of him not wearing a face mask on a train in May went viral online.
“According to reports, Glynn delivered a rant in court – in which he described the proceedings as “preposterous” and “disgusting” – and said masks were not effective in preventing the spread of Covid,” reports <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2021/aug/19/coronavirus-live-news-japan-reports-record-cases-ahead-of-paralympics-new-zealand-cluster-grows?CMP=share_btn_tw&page=with:block-611e05bd8f0865f6db8613b9#block-611e05bd8f0865f6db8613b9">the Guardian</a>.
This outburst prompted the judge to order the man to undergo a psychiatric assessment before the case could continue.
Glynn was subsequently convicted for violating COVID rules, his behavior towards the police who arrested him and “causing a public nuisance.”
Having already served two thirds of his sentence, Glynn was set free but then immediately deported.
As we have previously <a href="https://summit.news/2021/07/19/government-advisor-admits-masks-are-purely-comfort-blankets-that-do-virtually-nothing/">highlighted</a>, there is no evidence that face masks provide substantial protection against catching or spreading the virus.
A peer reviewed study involving 6,000 participants in Denmark revealed that “there was no statistically significant difference between those who wore masks and those who did not when it came to being infected by Covid-19,” the Spectator <a href="https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/do-masks-stop-the-spread-of-covid-19-">reported</a>.
As we previously highlighted, Dr Colin Axon, a SAGE advisor for the UK government, dismissed face masks as “comfort blankets” that do virtually nothing, noting that the COVID-19 virus particle is up to 5,000 times smaller than the holes in the mask.
“The small sizes are not easily understood but an imperfect analogy would be to imagine marbles fired at builders’ scaffolding, some might hit a pole and rebound, but obviously most will fly through,” Axon said.
Even Dr. Anthony Fauci <a href="https://summit.news/2021/06/02/in-february-2020-email-fauci-wrote-face-masks-not-effective-in-keeping-out-virus/">admitted</a> that masks were pointless at the start of the pandemic, when he wrote that a typical store-bought face mask “is not really effective in keeping out virus, which is small enough to pass through material.”

Multiple mainstream journalists spread fake news based on a doctored video to suggest that French President Emmanuel Macron was so loved on his arrival in French Polynesia that he was completely smothered in garland necklaces.
Turns out the entire thing was a scam based on a hoax video, but many journalists have refused to delete their viral tweets.
“On Monday, Illuminati Reptilien, a French satirical Twitter account known for the creation of doctored video shorts, posted an eight-second video of officials in French Polynesia officials draping the president in traditional garland necklaces,” reports <a href="https://sputniknews.com/viral/202107271083472529-journalists-from-cnn-wapo-nyt-and-other-outlets-duped-into-sharing-doctored-photo-of-macron/">Sputnik</a>. “The final seconds of the video show Macron standing alongside other officials totally covered in flowers from his head down to his knees.”

Despite the fact that the video was a total hoax, it was amplified and reported as serious news by over a dozen journalists.
Frida Ghitis, a CNN and Washington Post contributor, tweeted about the flower-draped Macron, “My God! Macron over-garlanded in Polynesia.”
He eventually deleted the tweet, but others didn’t, including Noga Tarnopolsky, an Israel-based journalist who writes for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Daily Beast.
“President Macron is turned into a human wreath during his official welcome to French Polynesia,” tweeted Tarnopolsky, receiving over 36,000 likes for the post.

“Others, including Newsweek deputy opinion editor Batya Ungar-Sargon, The Guardian, New Statesman and Politico contributor Pauline Bock, BBC Radio 1 host Ali Plumb, The Daily Beast editor at large Molly Jong-Fast, and CNN senior global affairs analyst Bianna Golodryga were similarly duped,” reports Sputnik.
Imagine if Trump meme makers had published a similar doctored video that showed the former president receiving such adulation.
They’d be scorned, outed and potentially deplatformed for the joke, but mainstream journalists can get away with it with no consequences whatsoever.

Report Warns 2021 Afghan Refugee Crisis Could Make 2015 Look Like a “Walk in the Park”

Despite Europe heavily fortifying its borders since the 2015 crisis, a top diplomat warns that “not even tanks” can stop a potentially large wave of Afghan refugees heading to the continent.
Even before the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, up to 30,000 people were fleeing the country every single week.
Humanitarian development worker Sybille Schnehage told German broadcaster WDR on Sunday, “We can assume that up to three million Afghans will make their way to Europe in the foreseeable future.”
Schnehage explained how the refugees are intent on leaving the Middle East entirely and settling in European welfare havens where the state partially subsidizes their lives.
“I always ask people: Why don’t you go to Saudi Arabia? They are Muslims. This is your culture. The answer is always: No, Germany is better.”
Although many experts think that Europe’s efforts to strengthen its ports of entry since 2015 will prevent a repeat of the 2015 invasion, others aren’t so confident.
According to Politico’s Bruno Maçães, “Europeans have to realize a new refugee wave now seems inevitable.”
Maçães <a href="https://www.politico.eu/article/afghanistan-crisis-war-taliban-europe-problem/">asked</a> a diplomat in Kabul, who opined that no amount of high-tech surveillance or beefed up border controls can stop an influx of people if their numbers are large enough.
“When the numbers are high enough, nothing can stop them. Not even tanks,” said the diplomat.
Wary of upcoming elections where they will face opposition from anti-immigration populists, European leaders like Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron are scrambling to prevent a repeat of 2015, when over a million migrants entered Europe, a crisis that led to massive social dislocation, rising violent crime and multiple ISIS-inspired terror attacks.

Armin Laschet, the head of the Christian Democratic Union and the man most likely to replace Chancellor Angela Merkel, said “2015 should not be repeated.”
Macron has called for a “robust, coordinated and united response” in order to protect the continent from “major irregular migratory flows.”
However, two countries that bore the brunt of the previous refugee crisis, Greece and Turkey, have indicated that they will put up stern resistance to absorbing large numbers of migrants fleeing Afghanistan.
Notis Mitarachi, Greece’s minister for migration, told Reuters that his country “will not and cannot” become a gateway for migrants and refugees trying to reach the EU.
After signing a 6 billion euros ($7.03 billion) deal with the EU, Turkey is already home to 4 million refugees, the largest such population in the world.
Turks are already deeply concerned about the economic impact this has had on their country and are loathe to accept any more migrants.
“Turkish public opinion is openly against any further arrivals, particularly from Afghanistan, whose culture and customs differ markedly from Turkey’s,” said Wolfango Piccoli, co-president of consultancy firm Teneo.
As we document in the video above, while the media is now re-framing “refugees” as basically anyone who doesn’t like their own government, the vast majority of Afghan “refugees” are in fact economic migrants.
The UK government has also announced that Afghan “refugees” will be allowed to enter the country without even showing a passport.
Home Secretary Priti Patel has also called on other European countries to follow the UK’s lead in providing “support to the most vulnerable fleeing Afghanistan so they can start a new life in safety in the UK, away from the tyranny and oppression they face in Afghanistan.”
While refusing to stay in closer safe havens like Saudi Arabia or Turkey, many will seek to exploit the weakness of western governments and the strength of European borders, including violent criminals and terrorists.

British Man in Singapore Given 6 Weeks in Prison For Not Wearing Face Mask, Psychiatric Assessment

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has mimicked Australia’s top public health official by telling citizens, “Don’t talk to your neighbors,” after the country went into full lockdown as a result of just a single COVID case being detected.
As we <a href="https://summit.news/2021/08/17/entire-country-of-new-zealand-put-under-lockdown-after-just-one-single-covid-case/">highlighted</a> earlier, the entire country has been placed under lockdown for three days, with Auckland in lockdown for a week, following the discovery of a single coronavirus infection in the coastal town of Coromandel.
Citizens are now being told to avoid work, school and leisure activities while only venturing outside for “essential” reasons like purchasing food.
However, Ardern went further, claiming the risk of passing on the infection was so high that people shouldn’t even have conversations with their own neighbors.

“Stay local and do not congregate, don’t talk to your neighbors, please keep to your bubbles,” said Ardern.
“We know from overseas cases of the delta variant that it can be spread by people simply walking past one another – so keep those movements outside to the bare minimum, wear a mask, and make sure you keep up that physical distancing,” she added.
Arden is basically repeating what the chief health officer of New South Wales told Australians last month.
“Whilst it’s human nature to engage in conversation with others, to be friendly, unfortunately this is not the time to do that,” said Dr. Kerry Chant.
“So even if you run into your next door neighbor in the shopping center…don’t start up a conversation, now is the time for minimizing your interactions with others, even if you’ve got a mask, do not think that affords total protection, we wanna be absolutely sure that as we go about our daily lives we do not come into contact with anyone else that would pose a risk,” she added.

Why are authorities in Australia and New Zealand so insistent on people not talking to each other?
Perhaps because if enough of them did, authorities would come under enough pressure to reverse the disastrous ‘zero COVID’ policy which means both countries could be under some form of on and off lockdown for years to come.
New Zealand has followed many of the same draconian restrictions imposed by neighboring country Australia, with authorities previously <a href="https://summit.news/2020/08/14/new-zealand-says-it-will-put-all-new-covid-infectees-their-family-members-in-quarantine-facilities/">announcing</a> that they will put all coronavirus infectees and their close family members in “quarantine facilities” even if they refuse.

An impassioned Senator Ted Cruz slammed the Biden administration’s border policy, or total lack thereof, Wednesday, describing packed migrant holding facilities as “COVID incubators.”
As we <a href="https://summit.news/2021/08/04/video-biden-confronted-on-allowing-untested-and-unvaccinated-illegals-into-u-s/">noted yesterday</a>, Biden and his staff keep sidestepping the fact that while they lecture Americans about following COVID rules and getting vaccinated, thousands and thousands of untested and unvaccinated migrants are being allowed to cross the southern border into U.S. cities every day.
Introducing Cruz, Fox News host Sean Hannity noted “There [is a] high rate of COVID positivity at that border. Any American that is infected because Joe is not enforcing the laws of this country can blame Joe Biden for COVID. And if you die, I would blame Joe Biden too.”
“People across the state of Texas and the country are pissed and should be pissed. People are dying, and Joe Biden doesn’t care,” Cruz chimed in.

And as Cruz pointed out, this isn’t the only problem, because at the holding facilities “Kids are getting sexually assaulted and raped, and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris don’t care.”
“We’ve had over a million illegal immigrants in the past six months, and they don’t care,” Cruz further proclaimed.
Hannity added that “For Americans, its vaccine and mask mandates, vaccine passports, but for Joe’s illegal immigrant population there’s no testing, high positivity rates, and you get to spreading it all around the country.”
Cruz urged that the left do not “give a flip about science… because it’s all about power and control,” adding “The left doesn’t believe in your privacy. It doesn’t believe in your freedom.” 
“They tried to portray it as an extreme choice,” said Cruz of COVID vaccines, adding “They say if you think people [should have] individual choice, then you don’t believe in science and want everyone to die.”
“They don’t care if you’ve had COVID and have natural immunity,” said Cruz, adding, “It’s not about the science. It’s about controlling your lives.”

Will the Taliban roll back two decades of public health progress in Afghanistan?

Since the Taliban retook Kabul this past Sunday, observers around the world have worried about what the religious group’s control will mean for Afghanistan’s women, its internal security, its education system, its religious minorities, and its citizens who aided the coalition occupation over the past two decades.
But relatively little attention has been paid to what the Taliban victory will mean for one of the <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2013/10/heres-the-best-thing-the-us-has-done-in-afghanistan/280484/">nation’s biggest accomplishments</a>: the sharp decline in child and maternal mortality over the past two decades.
A <a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/langlo/article/PIIS2214-109X(16)30002-X/">study in The Lancet Global Health</a> found that between 2003 and 2015, child mortality in Afghanistan fell by 29 percent. While maternal mortality is difficult to estimate, <a href="https://gh.bmj.com/content/5/5/e002126">one data set</a> found that deaths in childbirth fell from 1,140 per 100,000 in 2005 to 638 per 100,000 in 2017, or nearly in half.

This progress was not necessarily all generated by the US-led occupation, with aid from international organizations and Afghan-led initiatives contributing heavily; and these estimates rely on household surveys that are difficult to conduct well, especially in poor, war-torn countries with large nomadic populations, meaning they are likely off to some degree.
But regardless of their origin, these are huge gains to the country’s health, gains that represent hundreds of thousands of lives saved. It would be disastrous if they were to deteriorate, or if progress were to slow, under the new regime.

To get a sense of where this progress came from, and whether it can be maintained under Taliban rule, I spoke with Gilbert Burnham, a professor at Johns Hopkins’s Bloomberg School of Public Health who has been researching Afghanistan’s health systems and helping conduct public health surveys since 2002. A transcript of our conversation, lightly edited for length and clarity, follows.
<h4>Dylan Matthews</h4>
When you started in Afghanistan in 2002, the country had been under Taliban rule for five years and was in a state of humanitarian emergency. What was your assessment of the country’s public health compared to other places where you’d worked?
<h4>Gilbert Burnham</h4>
Without a census, which Afghanistan has never had, it is hard to plot trends. But the health status of Afghanistan had been poor before the Soviet invasion in 1978, with high infant and child mortality. During the Soviet times [1978 to 1989] and afterward, during the conflict with the mujahideen and the Taliban, there was little or no improvement. In 2002, the health status, especially of women and children, was poor by world standards and regional standards. The deaths of women from pregnancy-related causes were <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-afghanistan-maternity-fb/factbox-why-are-maternal-deaths-so-high-in-afghanistan-idUSTRE7BB0FJ20111212">some of the worst in the world</a>.

What have been the main trends in public health in Afghanistan over the last two decades?
<h4>Gilbert Burnham</h4>
The principal health indicators are still worse than the region, but many have shown a remarkable improvement. These include immunization coverage, women delivering with a skilled attendant, death rates of children, and function of hospitals. Especially impressive is the percentage of the population who have access to primary health care, though there are still many households living in isolated and distant locations, and several million nomads with little access to care.
Especially impressive has been the training of health care workers, especially with advanced skills. The number of health care workers with advanced public health training, obtained in the USA, Europe, Asia, and the region, while still insufficient, is remarkable, considering there were few if any in 2002.

If you’re trying to explain the positive trends in child and maternal mortality in Afghanistan, what gets credit there? What kinds of aid or government programs or societal changes are responsible for that?
<h4>Gilbert Burnham</h4>
Improvement in maternal and child health was a government priority from the beginning, heavily supported by programs such as from USAID and the UN. UNICEF was always an important player.
While strengthening access to care and the quality of care and availability of vaccines is always important, other improvements in water and sanitation, roads, markets, schools, and education of women are important as well. The [US] government and supporting donors such as the World Bank were really single-minded on these maternal and child priorities, and this focus worked. While [maternal and child health in] Afghanistan is still not good compared to neighbors, the change in most public health indicators since 2002 has been quite impressive.

What has happened with human resources in health care since 2002? How has manpower been boosted for doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel?
<h4>Gilbert Burnham</h4>
The numbers and quality of health care workers have substantially increased, and some extremely capable leadership has emerged. Yet more developed health systems are always a magnet for migration. Shortages of medicines and delays in salary payment can have a demoralizing effect. A very robust private health sector has been emerging, even in the smaller areas, and this was becoming a preferred source of treatment for many conditions.

What can we expect on public health from a Taliban regime?
<h4>Gilbert Burnham</h4>
We don’t know yet. Initial promises have sounded like supporting existing programs, and there has been some outreach to international donors and aid organizations encouraging them to continue their work. But these are early days. Maintaining the emerging role of women in the health workforce will probably be a litmus test for [international] donors.
<h4>Dylan Matthews</h4>
To what extent has aid gone to service provision versus corruption? I know this is a big worry people have about the Afghan government generally; was it a big problem with health specifically?
<h4>Gilbert Burnham</h4>
Corruption is a problem for most poor countries. As they become more prosperous, this often reduces. In the health sector there are some certain areas in countries where corruption often occurs — medicines, construction, and employment of nonexistent or “ghost workers.” Although an <a href="https://tolonews.com/afghanistan/report-speaks-corruption-moph">Afghan government inquiry</a> several years ago identified several areas of corruption in the health sector, my impression is that this has not been as big a problem as in other sectors, but this is just my impression.

If you’re looking five years into the future for Afghanistan, what would a good scenario look like? What would a bad scenario look like? What are you hoping for or fearing?
<h4>Gilbert Burnham</h4>
The best-case scenario would be a continued emphasis on the health of women and children, expansion of the developing public health sector — including nutrition, water, sanitation, and housing — and attention to the emerging problem with chronic or noncommunicable diseases.
The health workforce needs continuing support. Things can go bad if restriction of women, both as a health focus and in the workforce, occurs and ideology starts getting in the way of health programming. The health of Afghanistan cannot move forward without continuing external support, and this is likely to be required for some years to come, regardless of who is the government. A plunge back into war and instability is the very worst case imaginable for the health of the country.
