Podcaster Says He Was Offered “Significant” Money by UK Government to Push COVID Info

Professor Neil Ferguson, the controversial epidemiologist who predicted there would be as many as 200,000 COVID cases a day in the UK if restrictions were lifted, is facing scrutiny after infections continued to drop for the 6th day in a row.
The day before so-called ‘freedom day’ in England, where most mask mandates and social distancing restrictions were lifted, Ferguson was asked by the BBC’s Andrew Marr where the country was heading as a result.
“It’s very difficult to say for certain, but I think 100,000 cases a day is almost inevitable,” said Ferguson, adding, “The real question is do we get to double that or higher? We could get to 200,000 cases a day.”

The professor went on to warn of “major disruption” to the NHS and the interruption of elective surgeries.
Ferguson is being proven wrong by the statistics once again, which today showed there were 24,950 new coronavirus cases, the sixth consecutive daily fall.

The issue once again begs the question; Why does the government continue to follow advice given by arch-lockdown advocates who have got it wrong time and time again?
Don’t forget that it was Ferguson who infamously <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8759609/Professor-Lockdown-stands-doomsday-forecast-sent-Britain-lockdown.html">warned</a> that half a million Brits would die without a draconian lockdown, despite the fact that countries like Sweden which didn’t impose lockdown had similar waves and infection rates.
Not only has Ferguson repeatedly proven himself to be totally unreliable (after having already disgraced himself during the 2001 foot and mouth outbreak), but he infamously betrayed what he really thought about the severity of the pandemic via his own behavior.
During the first lockdown, when Ferguson himself was predicting up to half a million deaths, the professor took the threat of the virus so seriously, he allowed his mistress to <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/05/05/exclusive-government-scientist-neil-ferguson-resigns-breaking/">violate the rules</a> by traveling back and forth across London to continue the pair’s sordid affair.

Journalists Spread Fake News of Macron Being Smothered in Flowers

Multiple mainstream journalists spread fake news based on a doctored video to suggest that French President Emmanuel Macron was so loved on his arrival in French Polynesia that he was completely smothered in garland necklaces.
Turns out the entire thing was a scam based on a hoax video, but many journalists have refused to delete their viral tweets.
“On Monday, Illuminati Reptilien, a French satirical Twitter account known for the creation of doctored video shorts, posted an eight-second video of officials in French Polynesia officials draping the president in traditional garland necklaces,” reports <a href="https://sputniknews.com/viral/202107271083472529-journalists-from-cnn-wapo-nyt-and-other-outlets-duped-into-sharing-doctored-photo-of-macron/">Sputnik</a>. “The final seconds of the video show Macron standing alongside other officials totally covered in flowers from his head down to his knees.”

Despite the fact that the video was a total hoax, it was amplified and reported as serious news by over a dozen journalists.
Frida Ghitis, a CNN and Washington Post contributor, tweeted about the flower-draped Macron, “My God! Macron over-garlanded in Polynesia.”
He eventually deleted the tweet, but others didn’t, including Noga Tarnopolsky, an Israel-based journalist who writes for the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, the Daily Beast.
“President Macron is turned into a human wreath during his official welcome to French Polynesia,” tweeted Tarnopolsky, receiving over 36,000 likes for the post.

“Others, including Newsweek deputy opinion editor Batya Ungar-Sargon, The Guardian, New Statesman and Politico contributor Pauline Bock, BBC Radio 1 host Ali Plumb, The Daily Beast editor at large Molly Jong-Fast, and CNN senior global affairs analyst Bianna Golodryga were similarly duped,” reports Sputnik.
Imagine if Trump meme makers had published a similar doctored video that showed the former president receiving such adulation.
They’d be scorned, outed and potentially deplatformed for the joke, but mainstream journalists can get away with it with no consequences whatsoever.

Globo Karens Are Coming For Your Memes

A new initiative launched by cybersecurity experts encourages companies to create a system that makes it easier for people to be reported to their employers for “online abuse.”
The new program is called Respect in Security and was created by Trend Micro’s Rik Ferguson and Red Goat Cyber Security’s Lisa Forte.
According to Forte, the current system, which is largely based on a combination of AI and human reviewers working for social media companies, is a “no man’s land” and not very effective.
“The best solution we have, if the culprit is identifiable, is to approach their employer,” she argues.
According to Ferguson, companies currently only deal with “abuse” that happens internally and are ill-equipped to monitor what their staff are saying online.
Companies who sign up for the initiative are required to agree to seven principles and create a public reporting system that encourages employees to keep tabs on each other’s behavior.
“If you know your organization has made that commitment, it may make you think twice about doing it,” Ferguson said. “We need to take action.”
The pair appear to have failed to take into account that the primary means by which someone gets fired from their job over online behavior is via social media mobs who directly contact employers themselves.
They routinely do so not because a person has engaged in actual “online abuse,” but because they have expressed a political opinion deemed to contradict woke orthodoxy.
Of course, the term “online abuse” is completely vague and arbitrary and routinely abused by leftists who claim that words which they disagree with are “violence” and that them making themselves upset and playing the victim constitutes proof of “abuse.”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Tuesday that people should not get carried away by six days of better COVID-19 infection data, while one of the country's top epidemiologists said the end of the pandemic could be just months away.
Johnson has lifted restrictions in England and is betting he can get one of Europe's largest economies firing again because so many people are now vaccinated, a decision which marks a new chapter in the response to the novel coronavirus.
The number of new daily COVID-19 cases has fallen each day for the last six days, though Johnson stressed the pandemic is not over.
"I've noticed obviously that we're six days into some better figures, but it is very, very important that we don't allow ourselves to run away with premature conclusions about this," Johnson told broadcasters, noting it would take a while for the lifting of restrictions in England to feed through to the data.
"People have got to remain very cautious and that remains the approach of the government."
Imperial College epidemiologist Neil Ferguson said the end of Britain's pandemic could be just months away as vaccines have so dramatically reduced the risk of hospitalisation and death.
"We're not completely out of the woods but the equation has fundamentally changed," Ferguson, whose modelling of the virus's likely spread at the outset of the pandemic in early 2020 alarmed governments across the world, told the BBC.
Johnson lifted COVID-19 restrictions in England on July 19. New daily cases in the current wave peaked two days earlier at 54,674 and have since fallen dramatically, to 24,950 new cases on Monday.
The closure of schools for the summer holidays, the end of the Euro 2020 soccer championships and warmer weather are among factors epidemiologists say might have reduced social mixing indoors and therefore cases, even as England's economy has fully reopened.
While the number of COVID-19 patients in British hospitals has risen to 5,238, a spike in infections earlier in July has so far not led to a vast increase in deaths, which fell to 14 on Monday.
Britain has one of the highest official death tolls from COVID-19 in the world, with 129,460 deaths, but vaccinations and lockdown measures have greatly slowed the rate of deaths since March.
Ferguson said the impact of vaccines on reducing the risk of hospitalisation from COVID-19 had been huge, adding: "I'm positive that by late September, October time we will be looking back at most of the pandemic."
Case numbers have been falling for longer in Scotland, where the recent peak in cases was on July 1, than in England, corresponding to an earlier elimination from the Euros.
"From a sporting perspective ... Scotland went out far too early, but epidemiologically that probably did us some favours," Scotland's National Clinical Director Jason Leitch said.

Dhaka:
At least six Rohingya Muslims, including children, were killed and several injured on Tuesday after heavy monsoon rains triggered a landslide in refugee camps in southern Bangladesh, officials said.
"So far we have information of five people who died in the landslides in camps and one child swept away by flooding," Mohammad Shamsud Douza, a senior Bangladesh government official in charge of the refugees, said.
He said there were also children among the landslide victims.
Another government official said heavy monsoon rains over the last two days flooded most of the refugee camps.
Nearly one million Rohingya are living in squalid camps in the border district of Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh, the world's largest refugee settlement, since fleeing a military crackdown in Myanmar's Rakhine state nearly four years ago.
Bangladesh weather office said it expected heavy rains to continue for the next few days.
Rohingya refugees mostly live in shacks made of bamboo and plastic sheets that cling to steep, bare hills, and flooding has further worsened their living conditions.
"Monsoons and landslides are making our situation even more precarious," Rohingya refugee, Mohammad Ismail, told Reuters.

Singapore:
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Tuesday he was committed to having a constructive relationship with China and working on common challenges as he laid out his vision for ties with Beijing, which have sunk to their lowest point in decades.
The United States has put countering China at the heart of its national security policy for years and President Joe Biden's administration has called rivalry with Beijing "the biggest geopolitical test" of this century.
While Austin's speech in Singapore touched on the usual list of behavior Washington describes as destabilizing, from Taiwan to the South China Sea, his comments about seeking a stable relationship could provide an opening for the two countries to start to reduce tension.
"We will not flinch when our interests are threatened. Yet we do not seek confrontation," Austin said in Singapore.
"I am committed to pursuing a constructive, stable relationship with China, including stronger crisis communications with the People's Liberation Army."
Austin has been unable to speak with any senior Chinese official despite repeated attempts since starting as defense secretary in January.
Even with the tension and heated rhetoric, U.S. military officials have long sought to keep open lines of communication with their Chinese counterparts, to be able to mitigate potential flare-ups or tackle any accidents.
A top Chinese diplomat, in rare high-level talks with the United States, on Monday accused Washington of creating an "imaginary enemy" to divert attention from domestic problems and suppress China.
Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, the second-ranked U.S. diplomat, had arrived on Sunday for the face-to-face meetings in China's northern city of Tianjin.
"Big powers need to model transparency and communication," Austin said.
NOT A BINARY CHOICE
The speech by Austin, who is set to visit Vietnam and the Philippines later this week to emphasize the importance of alliances, is being closely watched by states in the region worried about Beijing's increasingly assertive behavior but heavily reliant on access to China's large markets.
"We are not asking countries in the region to choose between the United States and China. In fact, many of our partnerships in the region are older than the People's Republic of China itself," Austin said.
Biden has ramped up sanctions on China over alleged human rights abuses in Xinjiang and Hong Kong and targeted more Chinese official last week.
In a shift from Trump, Biden has broadly sought to rally allies and partners to help counter what the White House says is China's increasingly coercive economic and foreign policies.
