Surfside, US:
Another body has been recovered from the debris of a Florida apartment building that collapsed last week, bringing the confirmed death count to 10, with another 151 people still unaccounted for, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said Monday.
"This morning we did recover another body. That brings the count to 10. The total number of those accounted for is now 135. And the total unaccounted for, 151," Levine Cava told a press conference at the scene in Surfside, near Miami Beach.
"Our detectives are working right now, in real time, to audit this list," Levine Cava said, adding that the numbers were still "very fluid, and they will continue to change."

The order of play for day one of Wimbledon was action-packed with games featuring defending champion Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray but those for whom the audience cheered loudest were seated outside the court.
Professor Sarah Gilbert, who has designed the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine for Covid, and the staff of the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK got a rousing ovation on the opening day of the tennis championship.
The announcer said that throughout the coming fortnight, individuals and representatives of organisations who have significantly contributed in the nation's response to the pandemic and made the tournament possible have been invited to the prestigious Royal Box at the Centre Court.
"Today they include leaders who have developed the anti-Covid vaccine, NHS," said the announcer as the audience started applauding. The claps kept getting louder as people gradually got on their feet. Seated in the Royal Box, Professor Gilbert is seen smiling in the video tweeted by Wimbledon's official handle.

The announcer went on to mention NHS medical staff who led clinical trials as well as those engaged in critical care, nursing staff and workers in the community.
Also honoured on the occasion was the late Captain Sir Tom Moore, who won hearts with a Covid fundraising drive before succumbing to the infection in February.
"He was a national inspiration, raising 33 million pounds for the NHS when he challenged himself to walk 100 laps of his garden as he approached his 100th birthday. He sadly passed away in February this year but we are delighted to have with us today one of the daughters of Captain Sir Tom Moore," the announcer said, as the audience broke into another round of applause.

Washington:
After declining fast for two months, the rate of Covid infections in the United States has leveled off since mid-June thanks to localized spikes in under-vaccinated regions of the country, data showed Monday.
It comes as the highly contagious Delta variant continues to gain traction, now accounting for 35.6 percent of sequenced cases in the past two weeks, according to the covSpectrum tracker. Authorities have said it is poised to soon become the country's dominant strain.
The seven-day-average of new daily cases has hovered at around 11,500 since June 16, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or about 3.5 per 100,000 people.
A clear divide has emerged across the country, with cases rising rapidly in communities that have low rates of vaccination.
For example, the city of Springfield in the midwestern state of Missouri is experiencing a surge of 36.8 new cases per 100,000, and has just 35 per cent of its population vaccinated with one or more doses, a dashboard maintained by Covid ActNow showed.
On the other hand, Burlington in the northeastern state of Vermont is seeing just 0.9 new cases per 100,000, and has 71 per cent of its population vaccinated with one or more doses.
Nationally, 54 per cent of the United States' 332 million people have received one or more doses while 46.1 per cent have had two doses, according to the CDC.
The national immunization drive peaked in mid-April but has been declining since, with vaccine hesitancy much higher in states that lean Republican than those that predominantly vote for Democrats.
Cases dropped steeply across the country from mid-April to the beginning of June, a period that coincided with spring weather and increased socialization outdoors.
The summer heat however has brought more people indoors, where the primarily airborne respiratory illness mostly spreads. Air conditioning contributes by drying out the air and making conditions more favorable for the virus to remain viable.
All of this spells danger for unvaccinated people, who are more exposed than ever in the face of the highly contagious Delta variant.
According to research from Britain, the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was 88 per cent effective in protecting against symptomatic disease from Delta, but just 33 per cent after one dose.

Mosow:
A Russian appeals court on Monday upheld a nine-year prison sentence for Trevor Reed, a former US Marine who was convicted last year of endangering the lives of two police officers in August 2019, charges he denies.
US Ambassador John Sullivan, who returned to Moscow last week after leaving in April amid a diplomatic crisis, said he regretted the court's decision.
"Today marks another sad milestone as TrevorReed's appeal was denied," Sullivan said, in comments shared on Twitter by the embassy's spokesperson.
"(It is) another absurd miscarriage of justice in Russia as the world watches," Sullivan said.
Reed's defence team plan to lodge a further appeal, the RIA news agency cited Reed's lawyer as saying.
President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Joe Biden discussed the topic of prisoner swaps at talks in Geneva this month.

Washington:
President Donald Trump's attorney general Bill Barr told him a month after the 2020 election that allegations of voter fraud were groundless, but Trump rejected that, the Atlantic magazine reported.
Barr told reporter Jonathan Karl in interviews that as soon as Trump's defeat by Democrat Joe Biden was clear after the November 3 vote, he ordered the Justice Department to conduct an informal review of Trump's sweeping claims of illegal ballots and voting machine rigging in multiple states.
"We realized from the beginning it was just bullshit," Barr told Karl, an ABC News reporter who will publish a book on Trump's last days in office later this year.
According to the Atlantic article, published Sunday, after the election Barr was repeatedly urged privately by Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell to quell Trump's allegations.
McConnell "told Barr that Trump's claims were damaging to the country and to the Republican Party," pointing especially to two tough runoff races for Senate seats, Karl wrote, citing Barr.
In early December Barr finally acted, telling one reporter in an exclusive interview that the Justice Department had not found any significant fraud.
The news jolted the White House and Trump summoned Barr demanding to know why he said that.
"Because it's true," Barr told Trump.
"You must hate Trump. You must hate Trump," the president responded.
Trump persisted in his claims, which propelled lawsuits and forced recounts in several key states that ultimately revealed no significant evidence of fraud.
Yet Trump's claims culminated in the violent January 6 attack on the US Capitol by hundreds of his supporters seeking to delay certification of Biden's election win.
Critics noted Barr had been a close Trump political supporter who himself warned in September 2020, with no concrete evidence, that mail-in voting popular in the COVID-19 pandemic was "very open to fraud."
Barr resigned as attorney general on December 14, issuing a statement of strong praise for Trump, saying he was a victim of "partisan onslaught" by the Democrats, and not challenging Trump again on the election fraud claims.
Late Sunday, Trump blasted the Atlantic story and repeated his claims of irregularities in the 2020 election
Barr, Trump said, "failed to investigate election fraud, and really let down the American people."
"It's people in authority like Bill Barr that allow the crazed Radical Left to succeed," he said in a statement.

Make-a-Wish Foundation Says It Won’t Help Terminally Ill Children Unless Their Entire Family is Vaccinated

An arts college in Waltham, MA has banned the use of words and phrases it deems to be ‘violent’ or ‘racist’, replacing them with bland alternatives in an effort to prevent anyone from being offended.
<a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9721153/Brandeis-University-anti-violence-group-bans-trigger-warning-violent-language.html">The Daily Mail reports</a> that Brandeis University has “created an anti-violence resource called the Prevention, Advocacy & Resource Center which provides information and advice to students and staff.”
Among the phrases to have been banned are, ironically, ‘trigger warning’ which had to go because of its association to guns, along with ‘take a shot at it’ for the same reason.
Similarly, ‘take a stab at it’ and ‘killing it’ have been described as ‘oppressive language’ and replaced by ‘try’ and ‘great job’. “If someone is doing well, we don’t need to equate that to murder!” the college’s explanation reads.

The University also claims that the word ‘picnic’ is “often associated with lynchings of black people in the United States, during which white spectators were said to have watched while eating, referring to them as picnics or other terms involving racial slurs against black people.”
Picnic is derived from the French ‘pique-nique,’ which means bringing your own food or wine to a meal.
Nevertheless, the college has decided it’s racist and dangerous and suggests ‘outdoor eating’ as a replacement.
 ‘Rule of thumb’ is another phrase that the college has banned because they claim it derives from “an old British law allowing men to beat their wives with sticks no wider than their thumb.”
That isn’t true, but facts don’t matter when the woke mob is offended.
In addition to the ‘oppressive language’ category, the college has also compiled hit lists of ‘identity-based language,’ ‘language that doesn’t say what we mean,’ ‘culturally appropriative language’ and ‘person-first language.’

A disabled person should be referred to as ‘person with a disability’, and a homeless person must be called a ‘person experiencing housing insecurity’.

This policing of everyday language at universities is far from an isolated incident.
As we <a href="https://summit.news/2021/06/21/oxford-alumni-warn-woke-mob-wants-sensitivity-readers-to-vet-and-edit-universitys-oldest-newspaper/">reported</a> last week, Oxford University alumni have slammed attempts by the Student Union there to employ “sensitivity readers” to vet, edit and place trigger warnings (oops I mean ‘content notes’) on the institution’s oldest newspaper in order to resolve ‘problematic’ articles.
In addition, students at Manchester University have <a href="https://summit.news/2020/11/30/students-at-uk-university-demand-the-word-black-be-banned-from-lectures-textbooks/">demanded</a> that the word “black” when used as a negative expression such as the word “blackmail” should be banned because it is “divisive.”
This notion comes directly from <a href="https://summit.news/2020/03/11/video-cbs-argues-that-any-term-with-the-word-black-in-it-is-racist/">race baiters like Ibram X. Kendi</a>, who continually claim that anything with the word ‘black’ in it is racist against black people.
There are now ‘debates’ happening at universities where it is being suggested that <a href="https://www.campusreform.org/article?id=17695">using correct grammar is akin to white supremacy</a>, and that ‘non standard’ language is seen as “linguistically, morally, and intellectually inferior” not because it is regularly grammatically incorrect, but because black people are using it (Many many white people also use grammatically incorrect language, but again, facts don’t matter).
A <a href="https://summit.news/2020/12/17/study-cancel-culture-decimating-free-speech-at-worlds-leading-universities/">recent study</a> by leading education focused think tank <a href="https://www.civitas.org.uk/publications/academic-freedom-in-our-universities/">Civitas</a>, found that free speech at the world’s leading universities is being eroded at an alarming rate owing to the rise of “cancel culture”.
Universities are in danger of becoming breeding grounds for <a href="https://summit.news/2021/02/12/cambridge-university-academics-winston-churchill-a-white-supremacist-leading-empire-worse-than-the-nazis/">revisionist history</a> based on extremist political movements made up of individuals who are obsessed with declaring everything racist.
