China extends reach in Hong Kong over Tiananmen Square vigil

<p>In the face of a new national security law and the arrests of political activists, people in Hong Kong still took to the streets on June 4 to commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the massacre at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, China.</p>
<p>Victoria Park, in northern Hong Kong, usually draws thousands of people waving candles to memorialize the still-unknown number of people who died during the Chinese government’s crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in Tiananmen Square in 1989. But this year, Hongkongers who dared to show up in person were met with signs from police warning of their possible prosecution, and Victoria Park was <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-57356140">barricaded shut</a>.</p>
<p>Officially, 2021’s Tiananmen Square remembrance was canceled by the local government because of the coronavirus pandemic, as it was <a href="https://www.vox.com/2020/6/4/21280440/tiananmen-square-massacre-hong-kong-vigil-china-anthem">last year</a>. But activists <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPC8cj4gXec&ab_channel=BBCNews">told the BBC</a> that they see this year’s intervention as a step to silence dissent on the island, one of the few places in China where the 1989 Tiananmen Square activists have been allowed to be commemorated.</p>
<p>Last year, when police closed Victoria Park to the Tiananmen Square commemoration, demonstrators knocked down the barricades and continued their candlelight vigil. It was the first time the Hong Kong government had tried to stop the demonstration in 30 years. But since then, the Chinese government passed a new security law, which makes it easier to punish protesters and gives the mainland more control over Hong Kong.</p>
<p>The morning of June 4, the vice chair for the pro-democracy group Hong Kong Alliance, Chow Hang Tung, was arrested for posting about the remembrance online. Among other posts promoting the memory of Tiananmen Square, Chow called for people to “turn on lights everywhere, mobile phone lights, candles, electronic candles…” on her Facebook page the day before <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-57353803">her arrest</a>. Chow, who is also a lawyer, predicted that she would be arrested in an interview before June 4. She was arrested for promoting an unauthorized assembly and was released from custody on Saturday.</p>

<p>When the Chinese government passed the national security law for Hong Kong in June of 2020, the <a href="https://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/202007/01/WS5efbd6f5a310834817256495.html">full text</a> of the legislation was kept secret — even from Chief Executive Carrie Lam, the top public official in Hong Kong. The law’s 66 articles criminalize acts that fall into four categories: secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion. Critics of the bill, including <a href="https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/07/29/china-new-hong-kong-law-roadmap-repression#">Human Rights Watch</a> and <a href="https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/news/2020/07/hong-kong-national-security-law-10-things-you-need-to-know/">Amnesty International</a>, have called the text a threat to free speech and overly broad.</p>
<p>As Vox’s Jen Kirby <a href="https://www.vox.com/2020/7/2/21309902/china-national-security-law-hong-kong-protests-us-sanctions">wrote in 2020 after the passage of the law</a>:</p>

<p>Under each of these activities are some specific offenses. For example, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/01/world/asia/hong-kong-security-law-china.html">damaging government buildings could qualify as “subversion,” a serious offense</a> that could result in life imprisonment. On July 1, 2019, Hongkongers stormed and defaced <a href="https://www.vox.com/world/2019/7/1/20677066/hong-kong-protests-legislative-council">the Hong Kong Legislative Council</a> to protest the extradition bill, making this provision look very much like a response to previous protest tactics.</p>
<p>Another example: Under the “colluding with foreign forces” provision, the law says Hongkongers could be arrested and prosecuted if they lobby or work with foreign entities against the Chinese government, including “enacting laws and policies that cause serious obstruction or serious consequences to Hong Kong or China,” <a href="https://hongkongfp.com/2020/07/01/explainer-10-things-to-know-about-hong-kongs-national-security-law-new-crimes-procedures-and-agencies/">according to the Hong Kong Free Press</a>.</p>
<p>This could implicate human rights groups, or even individuals who have called for sanctions or increased pressure on China to stop its intervention in Hong Kong. The Chinese government has blamed outsiders, specifically those in the West, for fomenting opposition against its rule in Hong Kong, and this looks to be a way to silence its critics.</p>
<p>Of course, these expansive definitions are kind of the point.</p>

<p>Activists in Hong Kong have asked foreign governments to intervene in disputes with China, including during the recent extradition bill protests, where it was not uncommon to see American and British flags among protesters. This direct lobbying done by activists like <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-55154919">Joshua Wong</a>, a recently imprisoned former secretary-general of the pro-democracy party Demosisto, could now be considered illegal collusion.</p>
<p>The law also <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-52765838">extends Chinese authorities’ presence</a> in Hong Kong. Beijing now has its own security office on the island, the mainland capital will have the authority to interpret the law, and people suspected of breaking the law can be wiretapped or surveilled by these security forces (including non-permanent residents).</p>
<p>“Effectively, they are imposing the People’s Republic of China’s criminal system onto the Hong Kong common law system, leaving them with complete discretion to decide who should fall into which system,” Johannes Chan, a legal scholar at the University of Hong Kong, told the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-52765838">BBC</a>.</p>
<p>Even before June 4, activists in Hong Kong were suffering the effects of the national security law. Chow became the face of the Hong Kong Alliance, in part, because so many of her fellow organizers have been arrested. More than 100 arrests have been made under the national security law since last June. Naturally, an increase in the number of people arrested for protesting, political dissent, or other anti-government efforts could be seen as a deterrent to others who may want to demonstrate.</p>
<p>Of those arrested, as of March of this year, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-03-03/hong-kong-makes-100th-arrest-using-china-drafted-security-law">56 have been charged</a>. This includes those arrested in a 1,000-officer raid in <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-55555299">January</a> that apprehended more than 50 pro-democracy activists for their involvement in an unofficial primary election, which government officials <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-55555299">said</a> was an attempt to “overthrow the government.” Forty-seven people were eventually <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/28/world/asia/hong-kong-security-law-arrests.html">charged</a> with “conspiracy to commit subversion.”</p>
<p>Under the national security law, legal scholar and former Hong Kong university professor Benny Tai, as well as former lawmakers James To, Helena Wong, Lam Chuek-ting and Claudia Mo, were all arrested in January.</p>
<p>They join pro-democracy activist Wong, who was previously sentenced to 13 months in prison, along with dozens of other pro-democracy protesters and organizers on the list of those victimized by Beijing’s law.</p>
<p>The national security law also allows the government to retroactively charge people. Media mogul Jimmy Lai was arrested and <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-56770567">sentenced</a> in April under the new security law for his participation in pro-democracy protests in 2019. Lai, 72, was one of the few charged and sentenced for his role in the protests who was not also an elected legislator.</p>
<p>In contrast to mainland China, where censorship and freedom of expression controls are strictly maintained, Hong Kong’s freedom of speech, press, and publication were written into its governing constitution and bill of rights when the “one country, two systems” policy was established. Hong Kong’s multi-party political system also inherently adds to the possibilities for political expression in comparison to the mainland’s one-party rule.</p>
<p>Hong Kong’s capacity and tolerance for dissent and freedom of speech were also cited as reasons why NSA whistleblower <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jun/09/edward-snowden-hong-kong-gamble">Edward Snowden chose</a> the territory to share his trove of documents with journalists in 2013. “[The people of Hong Kong] have a spirited commitment to free speech and the right of political dissent,” Snowden told journalists.</p>
<p>However, the erosion of Hong Kong’s semi-autonomous governance has sparked questions about the future of free speech there, and how people will keep alive the memory of the movement at Tiananmen Square.</p>
<p>In mainland China, Tiananmen Square and other words and phrases related to the pro-democracy movement, as well as articles and Wikipedia pages associated with the events of 1989, have been censored.</p>

<p>This year, Microsoft came under fire when its Bing search engine failed to return results for the popular image search “Tank Man,” which is the nickname of the iconic photo by Stuart Franklin of one protester blocking the path of three tanks in the middle of Tiananmen Square. Tank Man has long been a symbol of resilience for the pro-democracy movement. In the US, UK, and Singapore, the image vanished from Bing; Microsoft <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-57367100">blamed</a> “human error.”</p>
<p>Part of the significance of the Tiananmen Square commemoration in Victoria Park each year is its defiance against censorship and control by the mainland. “Hongkongers are still on our side and want to fight for democracy,” Chow said to the BBC. “Hong Kong allows political expression,” she added. “Are we letting them [the Chinese government] use their ‘red lines’ to change our basic principle?”</p>
<p>In neighboring Taiwan, the Tiananmen Square anniversary is also used as an opportunity to show defiance against China. Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/china/taiwan-president-says-people-will-never-forget-tiananmen-crackdown-2021-06-04/">posted</a> on Facebook, “We will also not forget about the young people who sacrificed themselves on Tiananmen Square on this day 32 years ago, and that year after year, friends in Hong Kong who always mourn June 4 with candlelight.” In previous years, people have also commemorated the anniversary with demonstrations in Taiwan in solidarity with the people of Hong Kong.</p>
<p>Critics of China’s national security law in Hong Kong and of the arrests in the last year fear that censorship norms from mainland China will transform the culture and freedoms on the island. However, activists have shown themselves to be unrelenting and undaunted by the new authorities, and pro-democracy organizers, in Hong Kong and in exile, continue to post online and share their dissenting views.</p>
<p>“Many ask if the vigil will disappear. But I think we have been persisting for more than 30 years,” Chow said. “It is more or less in Hong Kong people’s DNA now.”</p>

The Gas Pipeline Between Russia And Germany That Is Angering The United States Is Almost Fully Complete

<p>The Nord Stream 2 pipeline that is being built to transport natural gas directly from Russia to Europe (and which is a joint project between Russia and Germany) and which is angering the American government, is getting closer and closer to full completion. According to <a href="https://www.rt.com/russia/525666-nord-stream-pipeline-completed/">RT</a>:</p>

<p>Work on the first core section of a controversial underwater energy pipeline linking Siberia’s gas fields to Western Europe has already been completed, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday in a surprise announcement.<br />
Speaking at the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Putin said “I am pleased to say that today, just two-and-a-half-hours ago, we have completed laying the pipes for the first section of Nord Stream 2, and works are advancing on the second segment.”</p>
<p>“The gas pipeline, including the segment under the sea, has already been completed,” the president added. “There are two sections, from the German side and the Russian side – they have to be welded – and then it will be finished.”</p>
<p>The base station, he revealed, is “ready” to pump gas into Nord Stream 2 and begin supplying consumers in compliance with tough environmental standards. “We are willing to further implement high-tech projects like this with our European partners and partners elsewhere,” Putin declared.</p>

<p>The building of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline has only been revealing that the tensions between the Americans and Germans are still here and they are intensifying and its only intensifying because the pipeline will bring the Europeans closer to Russia.  When the Trump administration announced its plan to impose sanctions on all European companies involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, European officials <a href="https://www.tasnimnews.com/en/news/2020/01/13/2180902/us-sanctions-against-nord-stream-2-unacceptable-austrian-fm">expressed</a> their outrage about this. For example, the Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg  lashed out: “We reject the extraterritorial effect of the sanctions. This is unacceptable,” stated Schallenberg in an interview with <em>Die Presse</em>.</p>
<p>Schallenberg stated that the pipeline is simply a diversification of energy and does not infringe on the interests of Ukraine. When the Austrian Foreign Minister was asked about American plans to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) to the European Union, he replied that “Europe has other interests”. Angela Merkel, during a press conference with Vladimir Putin, <a href="https://archive.fo/yaf2L#selection-2129.0-2132.0">expressed</a> her disapproval of the sanctions:</p>

<p>“This project has been legitimized through the new European legislation. We must see it through … We believe that extraterritorial sanctions are the wrong way, and therefore we will continue to support this project, as we did in the past.”</p>
</blockquote>
<p>The Russians have also expressed their exasperations regarding US sanctions. Russian press secretary Dmitry Peskov, for his part, slammed US sanctions on Nord Stream 2 as “a perfect example of unfair competition”, saying that Washington is imposing more expensive gas on Europe. He went on to say that both “Moscow and Europe dislike US sanctions on Nord Stream 2, as these measures violate international law”.</p>
<p>Recently there was a joint press conference between Angela Merkel and Vladimir Putin who affirmed during the talk that Russia could complete the creation of the pipeline but that the only hurdle was time. As we read in <em><a href="https://archive.fo/yaf2L#selection-2073.0-2111.211">the Wall Street Journal</a></em>:</p>

<p>The pipeline will run parallel to the existing Nord Stream pipeline, which already supplies a large amount of Russian gas to Germany.</p>
<div readability="7.289592760181">Last month, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/russias-gas-pipeline-to-europe-faces-sanctions-under-u-s-defense-bill-11576065601?mod=article_inline" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Trump administration imposed sanctions</a> targeting all businesses and individuals participating in the project’s construction. Soon afterward, Swiss-based contractor Allseas Group suspended laying pipes.</div>
<div readability="10.618811881188"><a href="https://quotes.wsj.com/OGZPY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gazprom</a>, Russia’s state-controlled energy company, initially targeted the pipeline for completion by the end of 2019. More recently, Russian officials have said that it would be ready by this summer.</div>
<p>On Saturday, flanked by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who was visiting Moscow, Mr. Putin said he hopes the project would be finished by the end of the year or the first quarter of 2021.</p>

<p>Putin explained the situation of time constraints regarding the pipeline:</p>

</blockquote>
<div readability="14.824355971897">The Nord Stream 2 pipeline will further deepen relations between Germany and Russia, and with American pressure on the Europeans to cut economic ties with Moscow, the Germans will be gradually distancing themselves from the USA. What we are seeing a polarization of the Western world, with Germany incrementally separating herself from the American worldwide security web. In the <a href="https://www.tagesspiegel.de/politik/strafmassnahmen-gegen-nord-stream-2-die-usa-scheitern-oft-mit-ihren-sanktionen/25383234.html">words</a> of Gerald Schneider and Patrick M. Weber:</div>

<p>If the US really carries out and imposes sanctions on European companies, it will spark an outcry and reverberate throughout Germany a very damaging message: the Americans don’t care about/or hate us and we Europeans must look after ourselves, to steer our own destiny and to place ourselves on the atlas in a position of prominence and world power.”</p>
<div readability="25.920588235294">Germany is not seeing the enterprise of the pipeline as something for the interests of Europeans in general, but a benefit for Germany’s geopolitics. <a href="https://www.tagesspiegel.de/politik/streit-um-nord-stream-2-frankreich-erspart-deutschland-die-blamage/23967608.html" target="_self" rel="noopener">In spring, the three most important institutions of the EU</a> – the Commission, Parliament and the European Council – opposed the German Nord Stream policy. Eastern Europeans countries like Poland are in general not in favor of the pipeline as they fear a dependency on Russian energy. The Americans are using the sanctions as a way to pressure Germany to stay within the sphere of US markets and away from Russia. The American market is tremendously more attractive than the Russian market, so then why is Germany risking her relations with the US to pursue this pipeline? It appears that this is more geopolitical than anything: by creating the pipeline Russia <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-russia-ukraine-gas-details/russia-ukraine-outline-terms-for-five-year-gas-transit-deal-to-end-row-idUSKBN1YP081">further bypasses Ukraine and Poland</a> (both US allies) and will avoid billions that she has been paying to Ukraine in transit fees; moreover, Germany and Russia will further distance themselves from the American sphere of power and form an economic axis. There has already been talk coming from the highest echelons of political power within the EU about Europe eclipsing the US. In 2018, the then head of the EU, Jean-Claude Juncker, <a href="https://shoebat.com/2019/07/31/the-migrant-crises-jean-claude-juncker-and-the-project-to-revive-militarist-nationalism-in-europe/">declared</a> in a speech some of the most hardline rhetoric that we have lately been seeing coming out of Europe:</div>

<p>These words were said as a response to the US withdrawing from the Iran Deal. Trump’s pulling America out of the Iran Deal has proven to have a ripple effect in Europe in the sense that rhetoric towards the Americans has become more intense. Economic pursuits regarding trade with Iran have also been enveloped with tension as a consequence of the US’ withdrawing from the Iran Deal. This was indicated in a trade agreement between Germany and Iran as a way to bypass American sanctions. <span class="s1">As one report from Holly Ellyat <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/08/22/defending-iran-deal-germany-looks-to-bypass-us-payment-channels.html"><span class="s3">explains</span></a>:</span></p>

<p class="p3"><span class="s1">“Europe should look to bypass U.S. payment systems by creating its own financial channels, a European monetary fund and international bank transfer system like SWIFT, Germany’s foreign minister has said. Heiko Maas called for the setting up of independent payment channels which could avoid U.S. sanctions targeting any firms that do business with Iran. … Writing in the German Handelsblatt newspaper, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas called for the setting up of independent payment channels, largely as a way for European businesses to avoid U.S. sanctions targeting any firms — whether inside or outside the U.S. – that do business with Iran.</span></p>

<p>The Americans wanted to sanction European companies who had business dealings with Iran and this was a way to avoid such economic punishment. Heiko Maas, Germany’s Foreign Minister, made it clear that he did not want the Americans to control Germany’s trade dealings, stating indefatigably: “we will not let you act over our heads. Therefore, it was right to protect European companies from legal sanctions”.</p>
<p>So we have two situations, which are both interlined within the same geopolitical context, that are taking place. We have the US telling Germany that they cannot do deals with Iran; and then we have the US telling Germany that they cannot have a pipeline between itself and Russia, and this is occurring as Germany pursues her own destiny, or as Merkel put it: “It is no longer such that the United States simply protects us, but Europe must take its destiny in its own hands.” These occurrences are interlinked and together this concatenation is bubbling with tension in which the Americans are trying to keep their grip on a German eagle that wishes to ascent to her own power.</p>
<p>The Americans are trying to maintain their leverage over the world; but Germany’s obstinance is proof that the US is losing that leverage over the most powerful country in Europe. But here is another thing that comes to our attention: if the United States really wanted to stop Germany from having this pipeline, then why weren’t sanctions authorized earlier? Why now when the pipeline is almost done and its completion inevitable? Its as if there are elements in the US that want to see Germany revolt.</p>

<p>Brazil has given clearance to the proposal to import Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin into the South American country with some conditions, news agency PTI reported today.</p>
<p>The National Health Surveillance Agency of Brazil- Anvisa - had earlier denied permission to import Covaxin after authorities found that the Indian plant in which the jab was being made did not meet the good manufacturing practice (GMP) requirements.</p>
<p>The Brazilian health regulator also approved another proposal to import Russia's Sputnik V vaccine into that country.</p>
<p>According to Anvisa's approval, Brazil is expected to receive four million doses of Covaxin initially.</p>
<p>After using the authorised doses, the agency will analyse the data for monitoring the use of the vaccine in order to assess the next quantities to be imported.</p>
<p>"Anvisa authorised this Friday the exceptional import of the Covaxin vaccine by the Ministry of Health for distribution and use under controlled conditions. The authorisation defined the amount of 4 million doses, which can be used only under specific conditions. The decision was taken at the 9th Extraordinary Public Meeting of the Collegiate Board," it said in a statement in Portuguese.</p>
<p>All batches to be destined for Brazil must have been manufactured after the adaptations of the GMP implemented by the manufacturer Bharat Biotech, according to the corrective and preventive action report (Corrective and Preventive Action - CAPA) presented to Anvisa, the regulator said narrating a slew of conditions for the importing of Covaxin.</p>
<p>On February 26, Bharat Biotech Ltd had said it signed an agreement with the Brazilian government for the supply of 20 million doses of Covaxin during the second and third quarters of 2021.</p>
<p>Bharat Biotech presented an adequate action plan and fulfilled all the pending issues related to the certification of GMP request, Anvisa said. </p>
<p>Bharat Biotech, on May 25, filed new requests with Anvisa on the issues of GMP.</p>
<p>Anvisa recently authorised the conduct of clinical trials of Covaxin in Brazil.</p>
<p>Approval for tests on the immuniser developed in India will serve to assess the efficacy, safety and consistency between vaccine batches.</p>
<p>Announcing the approval of Spuknik V by Brazil on its official twitter page, the Russian vaccine-manufacturer said, "#SputnikV will be used in Brazil following ANVISA's approval. Brazil has become the 67th country in the world to authorise Sputnik V. The Sputnik V team fully answered all questions fromANVISA on the vaccine''s efficacy & safety."</p>

The Liverpool Care Pathway – #WeNeedToTalkAboutMidazolam

<p><strong>Midazolam. It should be the word that is on everyone’s lips. If it isn’t we can assure you it will be by the time we’ve finished exposing one of the greatest crimes against humanity ever committed. We have the evidence midazolam may have been used to prematurely end the lives of thousands upon thousands of people in the United Kingdom, who you were told died due to Covid-19. But there is also evidence emerging this hasn’t just happened in the United Kingdom, it is in fact a world-wide issue.</strong></p>

<p>The Liverpool Care Pathway (LCP) was a scheme that we’re told intended to improve the quality of care in the final hours or days of a patient’s life. It’s alleged aim was to ensure a peaceful and comfortable death. The LCP was a guide to doctors, nurses and other health workers looking after someone who was dying on issues such as the appropriate time to remove tubes providing food and fluid, or when to stop medication.</p>
<p>The LCP was developed during the late 1990’s at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, in conjunction with the Marie Curie Palliative Care Institute. Palliative care is medical treatment designed to make people with terminal illness feel as comfortable as possible – both physically and emotionally. It can be used to relieve symptoms but not cure a condition.</p>
<p>The LCP involved reviews of –</p>
<ul>
<li>whether any further medications and tests (such as taking the patient’s temperature or blood pressure) would be helpful</li>
<li>how to keep the patient as comfortable as possible, for example, by adjusting their position in bed or providing regular mouth care (some illnesses or treatments can cause over- or underproduction of saliva)</li>
<li>whether artificial fluids should be given, when a patient has stopped being able to eat or drink</li>
<li>the patient’s spiritual or religious needs</li>
</ul>
<p>However…</p>
<p>In 2013 an independent review was carried out by Baroness Neuberger, who recommended discontinuation of the Liverpool Care Pathway. Why was there a review? Because it was applied to patients without their families’ knowledge and when they still had a chance of recovery. Doctors in the NHS were withdrawing treatment, heavily sedating the patient, and removing the tubes which provided food and fluid in the last 24 hours of their life.</p>
<p>The Review and the media highlighted examples of extremely poor practice. Many cases revealed ineffective or absent communication between healthcare professionals and patients or relatives, resulting in appalling care when this happened. Even though the LCP repeatedly emphasised the importance of clear and open communication with the patient and family and within the multidisciplinary team.</p>
<p>Particular concern was raised in the Review about reports of patients being denied oral fluids, contrary to the legal requirement to provide basic care:</p>
<blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="5.961038961039">
<p><em>‘The offer of food and drink by mouth … must always be offered to patients who are able to swallow without serious risk of choking or aspiration.’</em><sup><a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3782767/#b4">4</a></sup>.</p>
</blockquote>
<p>In fact, the LCP guidance was explicit that:</p>
<blockquote class="wp-block-quote" readability="5.94">
<p><em>‘… the patient should be supported to take food and fluid by mouth for as long as tolerated.’</em><sup><a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3782767/#b6">6</a></sup></p>
</blockquote>
<p>The Review also identified reports of withdrawal of nutrition and hydration by drip or tube, without explanation or consultation. </p>
<p>According to newspaper reports, several families complained about use of the care pathway. Some relatives claimed that their loved ones were put on the pathway without their consent and some said it hastened death in relatives who were not dying imminently.</p>
<p>The review also found that use of the pathway was being encouraged for financial reasons, linked to targets. Almost two-thirds of NHS trusts using the LCP received “payouts” totaling millions of pounds for hitting targets related to its use.</p>
<p>There review also found examples of people who “survived” the Liverpool Care Pathway. A <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2223836/I-survived-death-pathway-Patricia-82-given-days-live-family-defied-doctors-gave-water-straw--shes-planning-world-cruise.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><span>Daily Mail article</span></a> described how Doctors at a hospital had removed all feeding tubes and drips and placed an 82-year-old grandmother on the Liverpool Care Pathway. Her children and grandchildren were told to say their last goodbyes.</p>
<p>But they said no. And after they defied hospital orders and gave Mrs Greenwood drops of water, her family helped her make a remarkable recovery.</p>
<p>The Liverpool Care Pathway was discontinued in 2014 following mounting criticism and a national review. Or so we are told.</p>
<p>One of the drugs of choice given to heavily sedate the patient and give them a “good death” was a drug called Midazolam.</p>
<p>Midazolam should be used with extreme caution in patients who have chronic renal failure, impaired hepatic function, or impaired cardiac function. It should also be used with extreme caution in obese patients, or elderly patients.</p>
<ul>
<li>Midazolam induces significant depression of respiration.</li>
<li>UK regulators insist midazolam should only be administered in a hospital or doctor’s office under the supervision of a doctor or nurse to monitor the breathing of the patient in order to provide life saving treatment to the patient if breathing slows or stops.</li>
<li>Midazolam should be used with extreme caution in elderly patients.</li>
</ul>
<p>Covid-19 is an alleged disease which can severely affect the respiratory system. Midazolam is a drug that severely suppresses the respiratory system.</p>

Surprise, Surprise – UK Medicine Regulator is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation

<p><strong>On Friday 4th June 2021, the UK Medicine Regulator – MHRA, gave authorisation for emergency use only for the Pfizer / BioNTech mRNA “vaccine” to be used in children aged 12 and over. This is despite the fact <a href="https://dailyexpose.co.uk/2021/05/30/shocking-86-of-children-suffered-an-adverse-reaction-to-the-pfizer-covid-vaccine-in-clinical-trial/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><span>86% of children suffered an adverse reaction</span></a> ranging from mild to serious in the extremely short, and small clinical study.</strong></p>
<p>To call this shocking would be an understatement but should we really be so surprised considering the fact the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/mhra-awarded-over-980000-for-collaboration-with-the-bill-and-melinda-gates-foundation-and-the-world-health-organisation" target="_blank"><span>MHRA is funded</span></a> by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation?</p>

<p><em>We are delighted to announce a new partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Health Organisation that aims to extensively improve the safety monitoring of medicines in low and middle-income countries (LMIC).</em></p>
<p><em>New medicines and vaccines, for diseases such as malaria and HIV, may be introduced for the first time in LMIC’s where there are weak or no regulatory systems in place for effective safety monitoring. These new treatments have been developed with urgent public health needs in mind and therefore the need to gather and analyse information quickly on their safety and effectiveness is important. The healthcare and regulatory systems in these settings may often lack the tools, training and capacity to operate a robust safety monitoring system. Whilst great progress has been made with many of LMIC’s now involved as members of the World Health Organization Program for International Drug Monitoring, the experience in collecting, assessing and acting on adverse reaction data, and risk management planning is limited.</em></p>
<p><em>Without an effective system, public health programs are at risk and patients may be affected, should they suffer from adverse drug reactions (ADRs) which are not promptly identified and treated. This can consequently undermine the program and result in a loss of trust in the product or a vaccine. Ultimately, this may lead to lower uptake and therefore, the disease not being effectively treated.</em></p>
<p><em>WHO and the Gates Foundation have launched ‘Project Smart Safety Surveillance’ (also known as Project 3-S) to help LMIC’s identify, assess, and adequately manage the risks associated with new products. MHRA will be joining this initiative to bring regulatory expertise to the project. This will be for a 3-year period where it is intended to run three pilot exercises in different LMIC settings.</em></p>

Muslim neighbourhoods in British towns are ‘no-go areas’ for white people, new book claims

<p><strong>An academic who studied Muslim integration in Britain has revealed in a new book that women and children in some communities are subjected to Taliban-like rules, and non-Muslims face threats of violence.</strong></p>
<p>Ed Husain, professor at the Walsh School of Foreign Service in Georgetown University, visited mosques across Britain, speaking to businesses owners, imams and locals about life in predominantly Muslim neighbourhoods. He used his on-the-ground research to write a book, ‘Among The Mosques: A Journey Across Muslim Britain’, which is set for release next week. </p>
<p>The Muslim author grew up in a Bangladeshi family in London and was radicalised in his youth before renouncing extremism. According to the professor, integration issues in the UK continue to persist. </p>
<p>One man in Blackburn told Husain that <em>“Asian”</em> teengers repeatedly <em>“jumped”</em> his 12-year-old son simply for <em>“being white.”</em> Another local told the author that certain parts of the town had become <em>“no-go areas.”</em> Blackburn has the largest Muslim population in the UK outside of London, and is a major hub for ultra-orthodox Islamic sects. </p>
<p>Husain also learned that one school in the town had barred girls from participating in swimming lessons, saying that it was inappropriate for them to be seen in bathing costumes. </p>
<p>While visiting a bookstore in Blackburn, the author stumbled across several volumes advocating strict restrictions and dress codes for women, as well as copies of a book which argued that it is sinful to enjoy dancing and listening to music. The town also reportedly has restaurants that provide gender separation for their clientele. </p>
<p>While visiting Bradford, Husain was amazed by how few white residents there were, and was reportedly told by a taxi driver that they had <em>“gone with the wind.”</em> He noted that mosques were on nearly every corner and that even private homes served as places of worship and religious schools. The professor also learned that some Muslim parents in the area had prohibited their children from going to drawing and dance lessons. </p>
<p>An imam in the city confided that there was <em>“widespread abuse of disabled children in the Muslim community,”</em> and that parents were pocketing social welfare money while neglecting their children. </p>

<p>In Didsbury, the author came across a sign for a local ‘Sharia Department’, which deals with marital issues and other disputes through the lens of Islamic law. </p>
<p>He reported similar interactions and situations in places like Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow. </p>
<p>One woman told him that some Muslim communities in the UK had become a <em>“different universe”</em> from the rest of the country. </p>
<p>Like other European countries, the UK has struggled with integrating immigrants from Muslim-majority nations, sparking concern about radicalisation. At the same time, reports suggest that there is a rise in anti-Muslim sentiment in the country. During Husain’s trip to Bradford, a local predicted that anti-Muslim sentiment could lead to <em>“an apartheid city”</em> within 30 years and give rise to Nazi-like political parties that would persecute immigrants. </p>
