Pfizer document confirms ‘Covid Vaccine Shedding’ leading to ‘Menstrual Cycle Disruption’ and ‘Miscarriage’ is possible via ‘skin-to-skin contact’ and...

<p><strong>Hundreds if not thousands of women have reported that they have suffered irregular bleeding/clotting after receiving one of the mRNA Covid vaccines. Sadly hundreds of others have reported the loss of their unborn child. However we are now also seeing hundreds of testimonies made by women who are saying that they have lost their unborn child or suffered irregular bleeding/clotting after being in the company of others who have received one of the mRNA Covid vaccines.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Sounds unbelievable doesn’t it? Well unfortunately a Pfizer document confirms that these farfetched reports are perfectly possible.</strong></p>

<p>Dr Naomi Wolf, an American author and journalist has been extremely vocal on Twitter about the subject and back on April 19th 2021 she posted a link to a Facebook page, which can be found <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/allvaccinesarefake/" target="_blank">here</a>. The page contains hundreds of accounts from women reporting irregular bleeding after either having the Covid vaccine or being in the company of those who’ve had the Covid vaccine.</p>
<p><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://abc7news.com/covid-vaccine-and-menstrual-cycle-side-effects-women-coronavirus-period/10551643/" target="_blank"><span>ABC7 news reporter, Kate Larsen</span></a> also questioned how the Covid jabs are affecting women’s menstrual cycles on social media which received thousands of responses from concerned women –</p>
<p><em>“I had my 1st COVID-19 vaccine in January followed by the 2nd in February, and since then I have had hemorrhagic bleeding with clots. This month of April was the heaviest.”</em></p>
<p><em>“I thought I was going crazy, and even went as far as making a doctor’s appt and switching out my BC because mine is so heavy now and its been a month straight”</em></p>
<p><em>“I received the Moderna vaccine in January and February I didn’t get my period for 3 months they did multiple blood test, pregnancy test and ultrasounds but everything came back normal. Then finally on April 4 I got my period and it’s been super heavy for the past 22 days non-stop.”</em></p>
<p>We also know from the UK Governments weekly reports on adverse reactions to the Covid vaccines reported to the MHRA Yellow Card scheme that women are losing their baby after having one of the Covid jabs. <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://dailyexpose.co.uk/2021/04/29/shocking-rise-in-expectant-mothers-whove-lost-their-baby-after-having-the-covid-vaccine/" target="_blank"><span>The 13th report</span></a> which included data inputted up to the 21st April 2021 marked a sad milestone, as the number of women reporting the loss of their baby after having one of the Covid vaccines passed the 100 mark.</p>
<p>With reports like this being made it is extremely interesting and concerning to find that hidden within a Pfizer document titled <span>‘<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://cdn.pfizer.com/pfizercom/2020-11/C4591001_Clinical_Protocol_Nov2020.pdf" target="_blank">A PHASE 1/2/3, PLACEBO-CONTROLLED, RANDOMIZED, OBSERVER-BLIND, DOSE-FINDING STUDY TO EVALUATE THE SAFETY, TOLERABILITY, IMMUNOGENICITY, AND EFFICACY OF SARS-COV-2 RNA VACCINE CANDIDATES AGAINST COVID-19 IN HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS’</a></span> is a whole section covering the possibility of ‘mRNA vaccine shedding’ in which it is possible for those who have been in close proximity of someone who has had the Pfizer mRNA jab to suffer an adverse reaction.</p>
<p>In section 8.3.5 of the document it describes how exposure during pregnancy or breastfeeding to the Pfizer mRNA jab during the trials should be reported to Pfizer Safety within 24 hours of investigator awareness. This is strange because pregnant women / new mothers were and are not part of the safety trials. So how can they be exposed?</p>

<p>Well Pfizer confirms that exposure during pregnancy can occur if a female is found to be pregnant and is environmentally exposed to the vaccine during pregnancy. The document states that environmental exposure during pregnancy can occur if a female family member or healthcare provider reports that she is pregnant after having being exposed to the study intervention by <strong>inhalation</strong> or <strong>skin contact</strong>. Or if a male family member of healthcare provider who has been exposed to the study intervention by inhalation or skin contact then exposes his female partner prior to or around the time of conception.</p>
<p>In layman’s terms Pfizer are admitting in this document that it is possible to expose another human being to the mRNA Covid vaccine just by breathing the same air or touching the skin of the person who has been vaccinated.</p>

<p>Pfizer also confirm that it is possible to expose a baby to the mRNA vaccine via breastfeeding even if the mother has not received the Pfizer jab. They state this is again possible via environmental exposure, in which the mother is found to be breastfeeding an infant after having been exposed to the study intervention by inhalation or skin contact.</p>

<p>Pfizer also confirm in section 8.3.5.3 of the document that adverse reactions may occur after ‘Occupational Exposure’. The document states occupational exposure occurs when a person receives unplanned direct contact with the study intervention and says this “may or may not lead to the occurrence of an Adverse Event”.</p>

<p>The authorities and Fact Checkers are of course doing their best to try and sweep the thousands of testimonies from women under the carpet with several fact checking articles now out in the mainstream trying to belittle those who discuss the issue as “anti-vaxxers”. This includes <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://fullfact.org/health/covid-vaccine-shedding-side-effects-unvaccinated/" target="_blank">Full Fact</a> who are almost completely fully funded by Facebook.</p>
<p>The one thing all these fact checking sites fail to cover in their reports is that Pfizer have stated in black and white in their document that mRNA vaccine shedding is a real possibility, and they have extreme concerns about it when it comes to women and pregnancy.</p>

To some, the divorce suggested that major strategic changes could emerge in the years to come, with entire nonprofit sectors and hundreds of billions of dollars hanging in the balance. To others, the Gates’s divorce was not that dissimilar from any other couple’s — a reflection of the ironclad legal commitments they already made, and the family’s stated commitment to work together.</p>
<p>“I think the real story here is not the divorce itself having an impact, but the reaction the public had to the news,” said Megan Tompkins-Stange, a University of Michigan professor who has studied the Gates Foundation closely. “There was widespread fear and anxiety on behalf of the foundation’s current grantees, which in and of itself illuminates the extent to which the Gates’s actions cause ripple effects in the rest of the philanthropic sector.”</p>
<p>The anxiety surrounding the Gates divorce isn’t surprising when you consider what happened when Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Scott <a href="https://www.vox.com/identities/2019/1/10/18176048/jeff-bezos-ami-extortion-medium-photos-divorce">announced their split in 2019</a>. While we didn’t know it at the time, the philanthropic world ended up <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/2020/12/15/22176710/mackenzie-scott-bezos-philanthropy-speed-four-billion">transformed</a> by their $36 billion divorce settlement. What’s different with this Seattle tech billionaire divorce is that we <em>know</em> that this deal will reverberate in the world of mega-charity in some way or another because of their track record as major donors.</p>
<p>Bill and Melinda Gates created a charitable trust that today manages about $50 billion on behalf of the Foundation — that money is donated irrevocably and cannot be redirected. But there is another <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-05-04/how-bill-and-melinda-gates-can-split-their-146-billion-fortune?sref=Wg6QzS2e">estimated $150 billion</a> or so of Gates wealth that currently sits outside the Foundation’s walls, a sum that presumably will be split between the couple in a to-be-announced divorce settlement.</p>
<p>Now that the money is up to their individual — rather than collective — whims, it is possible that the fortune could end up funding different work than it would have previously. When the Gateses jump-started the Giving Pledge a decade ago, <a href="https://givingpledge.org/Pledger.aspx?id=199">the couple wrote</a> that they “had committed the vast majority of our assets to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.” We don’t know whether that will still be the case after the divorce.</p>
<p>So in some ways, the bigger story is the money that has yet to be apportioned to the Gates Foundation and currently sits at places like Cascade Investments, the Gates family’s personal investment shop.</p>
<p>This money, Gates insiders speculate, theoretically might have gone to the Gates Foundation over the next few decades, but now it might go to outfits like Pivotal Ventures, Melinda Gates’s personal investment company focused on gender equality; or to Gates Ventures, her husband’s investment shop.</p>
<p>One former Gates Foundation executive, granted anonymity to offer a candid view, wondered whether Melinda Gates, over time, would focus more of her energy on Pivotal and less on their jointly run foundation.</p>
<p>The Gates Foundation itself is presenting a calm face: The $50 billion philanthropy said that both Bill and Melinda Gates would remain trustees of the foundation. “They will continue to work together to shape and approve foundation strategies, advocate for the foundation’s issues, and set the organization’s overall direction,” a spokesman told Recode.</p>
<p>But while that may be true now, divorces are complicated, and even an initially amicable split can turn acrimonious or tense with time. So it’s impossible to know how exactly the next few years, or decades, will go.</p>
<p>“Even if they’re both clearly leading the foundation, I don’t see any scenario where it’s not going to turn into the things <em>he</em> cares about and the things <em>she</em> cares about,” said another former exec, who described there as already being a “massive, complex field of landmines between the foundation, Pivotal, and Gates Ventures.”</p>
<p>Even people who used to work closely with the Gates couple disagree with one another about how the divorce might affect the foundation. Asked how big a deal this would be for the Gates Foundation, on a scale of 1 to 10, one former executive pegged it with at least a 7. Another prior Gates aide gave it a 3. A third was even more bullish, saying that when it comes to the program, the impact would be a 0 or a 1.</p>
<p>Big changes could come, said one insider, but only once the Gateses are no longer preoccupied with what is sure to be a complex legal process. In the meantime, at least, some of the former executives predict that internal day-to-day matters could grow more paralyzed if the pair ends up struggling to cooperate, especially for people like <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/2019/12/5/20997583/sue-desmond-hellmann-gates-foundation-departure">Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman</a>, who will have to manage the board.</p>
<p>But when it comes to the nonprofits themselves that depend on the Foundation’s largesse? There may be anxiety, but less drama than meets the eye.</p>
<p>And when it comes to the Gates orbit? The dominant feeling is a sullen dolefulness for their mentors.</p>

<p>For several months, Trump’s team has said it’s working on a new social media platform that will rival Facebook and Twitter as a place where the former president can communicate with his followers without any moderation. This site, called “<a href="https://www.donaldjtrump.com/desk">From the Desk of Donald J. Trump</a>,” isn’t quite that.</p>
<p>Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-launches-new-communications-platform-months-after-twitter-facebook-ban">first reported</a> on what it called a “new communications platform” on Tuesday, just a day before <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/2020/10/22/21528859/facebook-oversight-board-mark-zuckerberg">Facebook’s oversight board</a>, a group of journalists and policy experts that can overturn Facebook’s most controversial decisions, is expected to announce its binding ruling about whether or not Trump can regain access to his suspended Facebook account.</p>
<p>Trump senior adviser Jason Miller told Fox News after it published its initial article that the website is “not a new social media platform” but instead a “great resource to find [Trump’s] latest statements and highlights from his first term in office,” and that his team would have new information about a social media platform soon.</p>
<p>For now, Trump’s new website appears to be more like a blog — essentially for posting texts and images with some basic sharing functionality.</p>
<p>Users can read posts Trump has shared, “heart” them, and then reshare them to Twitter and Facebook, but they cannot directly comment on the former president’s posts or post their own content on the platform. Trump appears to be the only user posting content on the website at this time.</p>
<p>After Trump was accused of <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/22221285/trump-online-capitol-riot-far-right-parler-twitter-facebook">encouraging his followers to incite violence</a> in the lead-up to and during the January 6 Capitol riot, virtually every social media platform, including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, banned Trump from their platforms.</p>
<p>The conservative social media platform Parler, which Trump’s team started using after the former president was banned from other social media networks, was <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/1/10/22223250/parler-amazon-web-services-apple-google-play-ban">soon after banned from Apple’s and Google’s app stores altogether</a> for allegedly allowing its users to incite physical violence on the platform.</p>
<p>Trump and several other Republican Party leaders have argued that this sudden erasure of Trump’s social media presence amounts to Big Tech silencing conservative voices. Trump’s team vowed to come up with its own way to directly reach his fans, and it seems this new site is the first small step toward that goal.</p>
<p>It’s yet to be seen if and how Trump will continue that effort once the oversight board rules on May 5 about his Facebook ban.</p>

India’s ruling party just lost a key election. It’s worrying that they even stood a chance.

<p>For the past few years, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a far-right Hindu nationalist faction, have dominated national politics. Since coming into power in 2014, Modi and BJP have attacked the foundations of India’s political system, <a href="https://www.v-dem.net/files/25/DR%202021.pdf">gradually undermining the guardrails protecting democracy</a>.</p>
<p>But this weekend saw a notable setback for Modi: an electoral defeat by a larger-than-expected margin.</p>
<p>In local elections held in five states, the BJP lost the biggest prize: control of the Legislative Assembly in West Bengal. The defeat came amid gathering signs of trouble for Modi’s quest to dominate India — the <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/4/24/22400986/india-coronavirus-surge-hospitals-deaths">world’s worst Covid-19 outbreak</a>, attributable in no small part to government policy, foremost among them.</p>
<p>A large and diverse cultural hub ruled by a communist faction for three decades, West Bengal can roughly be understood as India’s California. The BJP under Modi is a bit like the GOP under Donald Trump, only far more popular and politically effective. This anti-Muslim faction winning control of the local government in a left-wing bastion would have been a sign that its efforts to snuff out the political opposition had been successful, and that <a href="https://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/india/2021-03-18/decay-indian-democracy?utm_source=twitter_posts&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=tw_daily_soc">Indian democracy was going further down the path</a> of its deceased cousins in Turkey, Hungary, and Venezuela.</p>
<p>Pre-election <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/analysis/west-bengal-2021-where-the-national-hegemon-is-a-local-rebel-101618295020691.html">reporting</a> suggested the BJP had a real shot at defeating incumbent Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her left-wing Trinamool Congress party (TMC). The national party poured resources into the fight; Modi held a number of large campaign rallies in the state, while <a href="https://www.livemint.com/opinion/columns/the-way-these-state-polls-were-held-should-leave-us-in-dismay-11619981513357.html">India’s Election Commission</a> tilted the rules of the contest in its favor, scheduling the vote in a way that <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/cities/kolkata/has-eci-decided-bengal-poll-schedule-on-modi-shahs-advice-asks-mamata-banerjee-7206349/">facilitated BJP campaigning and turnout in BJP strongholds</a>.</p>
<p>Yet results released on Sunday showed that Modi‘s gambit had fallen short: The current count shows the TMC holding a supermajority in West Bengal’s parliament, around 213 seats out of 294. The BJP, which <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/elections/assembly-elections/bengal-tamil-nadu-kerala-assam-py-elections-2021-exit-polls-results-live-updates/liveblog/82310513.cms">some exit polls</a> suggested would win outright, will hold fewer than 80.</p>
<p>Though this is a significant improvement on the party’s showing in the last state elections, held in 2016, it’s well below pre-election expectations. Given the context — West Bengal is really hostile territory for the BJP — experts on Indian politics disagree on just how bad this result is for the BJP. Even though the party lost, some experts say, the fact that the BJP is the main opposition party in a place like West Bengal — something that couldn’t have been expected just a few years ago — underscores Modi’s enduring strengths.</p>
<p>But many also see the results as the latest in a string of setbacks that the party has experienced recently: the Covid-19 outbreak, defeats in prior state elections, and <a href="https://graphics.reuters.com/INDIA-CITIZENSHIP/PROTESTS/jxlbpgqlpqd/index.html#:~:text=In%20December%202019%2C%20India's%20parliament,of%20violence%20across%20the%20country.&text=It%20was%20part%20of%20his,party's%20election%20manifesto%20in%202019.">mass protests</a> against <a href="https://www.vox.com/videos/22205334/indias-huge-farmer-protests-explained">government policy</a>.</p>
<p>“Since 2019, a lot of stuff hasn’t gone right for this government,” says Neelanjan Sircar, a political scientist at Ashoka University. “Systemic dominance requires you to prove your dominance. And when you can’t prove your dominance, you’re in a bad position.”</p>
<p>The coronavirus context also matters.</p>
<p>The BJP campaign in West Bengal held mass rallies amid rising case counts in the state. There’s <a href="https://scroll.in/article/993429/plotting-the-covid-19-explosion-in-bengal-as-state-saw-indias-longest-ever-state-election">some statistical evidence</a> that the campaign <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/madras-high-court-shreds-election-commission-should-be-booked-for-murder-probably-2422056">helped turn the West Bengal outbreak</a> into the fastest-growing anywhere in the entire country by the time results were being tabulated.</p>

<p>And arguably, the Modi government bears the <a href="https://foreignpolicy.com/2021/04/30/modi-india-covid-19-pandemic-crisis-disaster/">lion’s share of responsibility</a> for the national outbreak; the prime minister declared “victory” over Covid-19 in January and relaxed stringent restrictions, allowing the virus to spread at a dangerous clip.</p>
<p>Together, these two events suggest an opening for the fractured Indian opposition. West Bengal shows that Modi can be beaten even when he stacks the deck in his favor; the government’s failures on the outbreak shift the public’s focus away from Modi’s messaging and toward a concrete policy where Modi has failed.</p>
<p>Yet the fact that Modi and the BJP did as well as they did in an opposition stronghold indicates just how much sway he and the party continue to have. Indian democracy is still in deep trouble, beset by a remarkably popular and charismatic prime minister with a clear authoritarian bent.</p>
<p>On the face of it, the results in West Bengal could easily be seen as a success for the BJP.</p>
<p>In the 2016 state elections, the party only won three seats in the state assembly; in 2021, it looks likely to hold around 77 <strong>—</strong> more than 25 times that number. Other than the TMC, every other party was demolished, including Congress, the BJP’s leading national rival.</p>
<p>“Even in decisive loss today, Modi’s party has emerged as the main challenger for power” in West Bengal, writes <a href="https://twitter.com/Bhuvanbagga/status/1388859659885285376">Bhuvan Bagga</a>, a South Asia correspondent for Agence France-Presse — an astonishing development in such a traditionally left-leaning state, where the TMC’s main opponents are traditionally Congress and communists.</p>
<p>For this reason, some BJP opponents are greeting the West Bengal results with <a href="https://twitter.com/ishaantharoor/status/1388856018214457353">more relief than jubilation</a>, a feeling that a disaster was averted rather than a major victory won.</p>
<p>“The counterblast from Bengal comes in the throes of a spiralled authoritarianism; it is marauding and it is untrammelled,” <a href="https://www.telegraphindia.com/opinion/mamata-banerjee-has-stopped-the-bjps-ashwamedha-in-bengal/cid/1814329">writes Sankarthan Thakur</a>, the national affairs editor of the Telegraph (an Indian newspaper). “More than once in our recent past the baton of challenge has been picked [by the opposition], more than once has it been dropped.”</p>
<p>But other experts on Indian politics think the scope of BJP’s defeat is noteworthy — and that it could prove to have real significance for the country’s political trajectory.</p>
<p>First, they point out, the West Bengal results actually suggest the BJP’s strength in the state is weakening, not rising. In 2019, India held national parliamentary elections that the BJP dominated. In that contest, the party won a notably larger percentage of the West Bengal vote than it did in 2021: Had the 2019 percentage held steady, <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/vote-gap-in-west-bengal-how-bjp-didnt-see-winds-of-change-7299698/">the BJP would have won 121 state assembly seats</a>, about 40 percent more than it actually won in 2021. That’s a steep decline in two years.</p>
<p>Second, the West Bengal election is not a one-off. In a <a href="https://www.livemint.com/elections/assembly-elections/despite-new-gains-bjp-juggernaut-is-stuttering-11619978173999.html">series of other notable state elections</a>, including a 2019 contest in <a href="https://theprint.in/politics/bjp-wins-first-bypoll-in-maharashtra-since-it-lost-power-to-mva-wrests-seat-from-ncp/650955/">Maharashtra</a> (home to the megacity Mumbai) and a 2020 election in <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/12/asia/india-delhi-elections-bjp-intl-hnk/index.html">Delhi</a> (home to the capital New Delhi), the party has either lost power or underperformed expectations. “Between 2019 and 2021, the BJP has struggled in most state elections,” says Rahul Verma, a fellow at the nonpartisan Center for Policy Research think tank in New Delhi.</p>
<p>Third, the effectiveness of the TMC’s campaign strategy pointed to potential weaknesses in the BJP’s political coalition.</p>

<p>Modi’s party thrives on religious polarization; its basic strategy is to unite India’s Hindu majority by scapegoating the Muslim minority. Since India is an 80 percent Hindu country, sheer math means that successfully polarizing the country on communal lines works in the party’s favor. But Banerjee, the TMC’s leader, successfully splintered the Hindu vote by appealing to the poor and women. By skillfully hammering on gender and class inequality, the TMC set up a strategy that could prove a model for other opposition parties.</p>
<p>“What the TMC showed is that there’s a version of pro-poor welfare politics, and pro-female politics, which essentially work as cross-cutting currents with Hindu-Muslim polarization,” Sircar tells me. “The BJP has an undefended flank when it comes to the poor. If a political actor is able to really take this up, it can really do damage to the BJP.”</p>
<p>Fourth, and finally, the results show that even a concerted BJP effort to win an election — using all of its unfair advantages — can fall short.</p>
<p>Throughout the country, Modi has embraced a series of policies that are designed to enhance his and his party’s political power — arresting <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-56111289">peaceful protesters on sedition charges</a>, punishing critical media by <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/india-modi-government-media-ad-spending-newspapers-press-freedom-a8990451.html">cutting off vital advertising dollars</a>, and <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/28c89610-503c-11e9-b401-8d9ef1626294">rewriting campaign finance rules to give itself unfair access to dark money</a>. In a 2021 report, V-Dem, the leading quantitative assessment of global democracy, downgraded India from a democracy to an “<a href="https://www.v-dem.net/files/25/DR%202021.pdf">electoral autocracy</a>.”</p>
<p>“There are questions about how free and fair elections are that we haven’t seen in decades,” Milan Vaishnav, an expert on India at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, told me before the West Bengal results were announced.</p>
<p>In that campaign, the ostensibly neutral Election Commission of India scheduled an unusual 34-day voting period that seemed <a href="https://thewire.in/politics/spread-over-a-month-bengals-eight-phase-election-triggers-new-political-debate">designed to allow the BJP</a> to bring its much greater resources to bear — one of <a href="https://caravanmagazine.in/politics/why-election-commission-neutrality-doubt">several questionable decisions</a> in recent elections that favored the ruling party.</p>
<p>As the Covid-19 outbreak worsened, the commission refused to shut down mass campaign rallies <a href="https://scroll.in/article/993429/plotting-the-covid-19-explosion-in-bengal-as-state-saw-indias-longest-ever-state-election">until the BJP had already voluntarily halted them</a>. And it refused to seriously punish BJP leaders for <a href="https://www.republicworld.com/india-news/politics/congress-abhishek-singhvi-cries-foul-as-adhikari-gets-delayed-notice-for-hate-speech.html">clear instances of hate speech</a> during the campaign, which is nominally prohibited under Indian law. It was all so bad that <a href="https://www.telegraphindia.com/india/west-bengal-assembly-elections-2021-prashant-kishor-mamata-banerjees-chief-political-strategist-had-put-his-career-on-the-line-with-a-public-dare-made-last-december/cid/1814352">Prashant Kishor</a>, the TMC’s lead political strategist, argued with real justification that the commission “behaved like an arm of the powers in Delhi.”</p>
<p>Despite all of this, the BJP lost in a state where it went all-in, attempting to influence the outcome by legitimate and illegitimate means alike. And not only did it lose, but it lost by a much larger than expected margin. This is a welcome sign in a country where the health of democracy remains tenuous at best.</p>
<p>“The kind of command and control over resources the BJP has is unprecedented,” says Verma. “What the Bengal results tell us is that both elections and democratic politics happen in a way where resources give you advantages, but this cannot ensure victory.”</p>
<p>The West Bengal elections are, in key ways, intertwined with the biggest story in India (and arguably one of the biggest stories in the world) right now: the country’s coronavirus outbreak.</p>
<p>The situation is grim, both <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2021/05/02/india-covid-coronavirus-vaccine-election/">nationally and in West Bengal</a>. Just before the election, India recorded a new national high of 3,689 deaths in a single 24-hour period. In Kolkata, West Bengal’s capital and largest city, the test positivity rate is around 50 percent.</p>
<p>The election itself seems to have contributed to the outbreak — one Indian court accused <a href="https://www.indiatimes.com/news/india/ec-most-irresponsible-institution-should-be-booked-for-murder-madras-hc-lashes-out-539170.html">the Election Commission</a> of being “singularly responsible for the second wave of Covid,” adding that its leadership “should probably be booked for murder.”</p>
<p>“There is no doubt that the election process led to the spread of corona in West Bengal,” Punyabrata Goon, a physician in West Bengal, told the publication <a href="https://scroll.in/article/993429/plotting-the-covid-19-explosion-in-bengal-as-state-saw-indias-longest-ever-state-election">Scroll.in</a><em>.</em> “Till February and March, Bengal had the disease under control. But as campaigning started with large crowds and people coming in from affected states, cases started shooting up.”</p>
<p>It’s not clear whether this surge hurt the BJP at the West Bengal ballot box. On the one hand, <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/opinion/the-five-lessons-from-five-assembly-polls-101619974318166.html">quite a lot of votes</a> were cast before the local case count spiked. On the other, there’s some early evidence — per <a href="https://twitter.com/gilkumar/status/1388963759528415232">calculations by Ashoka political scientist Gilles Verniers</a> — that the BJP significantly underperformed in later stages of the election when the outbreak was happening.</p>
<p>This points to a bigger question hanging over Indian politics right now: To what extent will the government’s Covid-19 failures exacerbate the political vulnerabilities on display in West Bengal, creating a true political threat to Modi’s power?</p>
<p>There is little doubt that the government’s approach to the outbreak has played a major role in the current surge. Writing in <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-01140-6"><em>Nature</em></a>, a leading scientific journal, journalist T.V. Padma paints a dire and clear picture of a too-swift, politically motivated reopening.</p>
<p>“As late as March, the government repeatedly boasted that results from serological surveys and from India’s main computer model predicting disease spread showed that the country was in the ‘endgame’ of the pandemic. By then, shopping centres, restaurants and theatres had reopened across the country,” she writes. “Public-health experts had been warning that the fight against the pandemic was not over, that better data were needed and precautionary measures were warranted. They went unheard. Their arguments did not fit the government’s narrative that the pandemic was under control.”</p>

<p>Once the surge began, a series of other failures affected the government’s response — a disaster that the writer Arundhati Roy has labeled “<a href="https://www.theguardian.com/news/2021/apr/28/crime-against-humanity-arundhati-roy-india-covid-catastrophe">a crime against humanity</a>.” There have been <a href="https://www.newsclick.in/12-reasons-why-covid-19-second-wave-man-made-disaster">severe shortages of oxygen, ICU beds, and Covid-management drugs like remdesivir</a>. The vaccination campaign <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/80c18d5b-443e-48e4-9f28-3cc491df4260">has been sluggish</a>, with <a href="https://theprint.in/health/only-1-97-indians-fully-vaccinated-so-far-up-worst-performer-despite-largest-stock/648902/">only 2 percent of India’s population fully vaccinated</a> as of April 30. Official statistics are badly inaccurate, almost certainly <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/04/24/world/asia/india-coronavirus-deaths.html?referringSource=articleShare">understating case and death counts</a> by a significant factor.</p>
<p>Through it all, the government has been working to control information that makes it look bad. It has <a href="https://www.vox.com/recode/22410931/india-pandemic-facebook-twitter-free-speech-modi-covid-19-censorship-free-speech-takedown">strong-armed Twitter and Facebook into banning posts critical of government policy</a>.</p>
<p>In other countries, this sort of failure seems to have hurt Modi-style right-wing populists. The Trump campaign’s <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/02/02/politics/trump-2020-reelection-loss-covid/index.html">internal data</a> suggested that his handling of Covid-19 contributed to his 2020 defeat. In Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro’s poll numbers <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-56581131">have dropped</a> as the country sees an outbreak second in scope only to India’s. Even Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, one of the most effective in this cohort at consolidating power, has <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/polls-tighten-hungarys-orban-steps-up-pre-election-spending-2021-02-04/">seen his position weaken</a> amid the <a href="https://hungarytoday.hu/hungary-coronavirus-deaths-covid-fatalities-hospitalizations/">worst per capita death rates in the world</a>.</p>
<p>“What will happen to Modi will be determined by what he and his party do on the Covid crunch,” says Verma.</p>
<p>All that said, it’s important not to overstate Modi’s weaknesses.</p>
<p>He remains, personally, quite popular. His party’s support in key regions, especially populous northern India, remains strong. The leading national opposition party, Congress, is weak and rudderless; it’s not clear whether regional parties like the TMC can unite with Congress and present a serious nationwide challenge to the BJP.</p>
<p>And any attempt to topple Modi in the next national elections, scheduled for 2024, will require overcoming the various mechanisms the BJP has already created for tilting the electoral playing field in its direction — and whatever new ideas it comes up with in the next three years.</p>
<p>The West Bengal results, coming amid a coronavirus outbreak that has tarnished the BJP, suggests an opening for anti-Modi factions. But that Modi and the party even had a chance in a place where it was once considered unthinkable underscores the enormity of the task of unseating him — and saving Indian democracy from his attempts to subvert it.</p>

<p>The pregnancy of Halima Cisse, 25, has fascinated the West African nation and attracted the attention of its leaders. When doctors in March said Cisse needed specialist care, authorities flew her to Morocco, where she gave birth.</p>
<p>"The newborns (five girls and four boys) and the mother are all doing well," Mali's health minister, Fanta Siby, said in a statement.</p>
<p>Cisse was expected to give birth to seven babies, according to ultrasounds conducted in Morocco and Mali that missed two of the siblings. All were delivered by caesarean section.</p>
<p>Nonuplets are extremely rare. Medical complications in multiple births of this kind often mean that some of the babies do not reach full term.</p>

<p>US President Joe Biden said Tuesday he expects to hold a summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during a June trip to Europe.</p>
<p>"That is my hope and expectation," Biden said.</p>
<p>Biden in April offered a meeting in a third country to discuss rising tensions over Russian sabre rattling around Ukraine, the treatment of jailed Putin opponent Alexei Navalny, and other flashpoints.</p>
<p>A summit has not been confirmed but a Putin advisor, Yury Ushakov, has said planning is underway.</p>
<p>Biden is scheduled to attend a G7 summit in Britain in mid-June, followed by NATO and EU summits in Brussels, which would open the door to the logistics of a separate Putin meeting.</p>
<p>Austria and Finland have expressed interest in hosting the summit.</p>
<p>In April, Washington expelled 10 Russian diplomats over what it says was Russia's large-scale cyber attack on US computer systems and interference in the 2020 presidential election. Moscow responded with tit-for-tat expulsions.</p>
<p>However, the Biden administration has stressed that it wants to bring stability to the relationship and that Washington and Moscow need to cooperate on key areas, such as nuclear weapons and the climate crisis.</p>
