Cindy McCain Calls Arizona Election Audit “Ludicrous”

Cindy McCain on Sunday blasted the ongoing Arizona election audit as “ludicrous.”
McCain, the widow of late Sen. John McCain (Ariz.), a prominent RINO Republican, joined CNN’s “State of the Union” to complain about the audit pushed by Arizona Republicans.
“Listen, this whole thing is ludicrous, quite frankly. It’s ludicrous. And this also comes from a state party in Arizona that refused to be audited themselves on votes that were cast within their own party communications,” Cindy McCain told host Jake Tapper.

“The election is over. [President] Biden won,” she added. “I know many of them don’t like the outcome, but, you know, elections have consequences. And so…this does not surprise me, you know, that things are just aloof and crazy out there right now with regards to the election.”
McCain, a RINO like her late husband, has been <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/feature/nbc-out/arizona-republicans-censure-cindy-mccain-gop-governor-n1255446">at odds with the Arizona GOP after they censured her</a> for endorsing Biden in the 2020 election and supporting “leftist causes” and “globalist policies.”
The Arizona-Senate ordered recount of nearly 2.1 million Maricopa County general election ballots is ongoing and could last weeks.
President Trump weighed in on the audit on Friday, warning that other “rigged” states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin could follow suit.
“Let’s see what they find. I wouldn’t be surprised if they found thousands and thousands and thousands of votes, so we’re going to watch that very closely,” Trump said to a crowd at Mar-a-Lago on Friday.

How Costco Is Masking A 14% Price Jump With Shrinkflation

The oldest trick in the retailer book is back.

Take Costco, which as The Bear Traps report notes, is now charging the same price for paper towels but the roll has 20 fewer sheets. TBT refers to a recent post in a <a href="https://forums.redflagdeals.com/costco-paper-towels-now-20-fewer-sheets-per-roll-2461125/">Red Flag Deals </a>message board, where a member makes the following observation:

The stealthy decline of 20 sheets per roll of towels from 160 to 140 for the “same price” is the functional equivalent of 14.3% inflation, and as TBT notes, “In our experience, only potato chip companies can get away with selling a half empty package.”
Of course, once companies realize they can get away with such shrinkflation – and they will because as a RFD member responds…

But don’t worry, according to the Chairman, “<a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2021-04-29/markets-give-powell-a-break-on-inflation-it-may-be-transitory?sref=6uww027M">it’s transitory</a>.”

The migration crisis is showing no sign of ceasing in the US, where the Border Patrol is tackling an unprecedented number of illegal immigrants approaching the country’s southern border.
The US Border Patrol has detained a number of gang members who attempted to enter the country via a southern border checkpoint in Texas as part of the migrant flows.

Laredo Sector Chief Patrol Agent Matthew Hudak tweeted earlier this week about nabbing “5 gang members in 7 days”, including those from the international gang MS-13 and the 18th Street criminal group.

MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, was formed by Central American immigrants in Los Angeles and is notorious for its cruelty. The gang’s motto is believed to be “mata, viola, controla”, which means “kill, rape, control”.

Hudak added in a tweet that the gangsters tried “to evade arrest by exploiting the influx of migrants attempting to enter our country”.

The remarks followed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton tweeting in mid-April that upon visiting “the facility in San Antonio full of 2,000 unaccompanied minor boys”, he was “absolutely concerned about the nexus with MS-13”.

Paxton voiced his concern as <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://sputniknews.com/us/202104181082660584-us-border-patrol-council-chief-reveals-why-kamala-harris-avoids-visiting-migrant-hit-south/" target="_blank">the US remains in the grip of a migration crisis</a>, something the White House has repeatedly refused to admit, preferring to describe the situation on the southern border as a “vital human challenge”.

US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) detained more than 100,000 migrants at the border in February, and encountered some 171,700 more individuals in March, including almost 19,000 unaccompanied minors – a new record, eclipsing the 11,861 unaccompanied minors detained during the 2019 migration surge.
The southern border crisis began shortly after Biden started to reverse Trump’s hardline immigration policies upon assuming office on 20 January 2021. The POTUS halted construction of a border wall, moved to end “harsh and extreme immigration enforcement”, and pledged to “restore and expand” the asylum system.
Other moves included rescinding the Trump travel ban and promising a “path to citizenship” for more than 11 million undocumented immigrants already living in the US.
The severity of the migration crisis, however, has apparently pushed the Biden administration to mull bringing back some of <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://sputniknews.com/us/202103251082445283-blame-game-biden-claims-new-surge-in-migrant-arrivals-at-us-southern-border-started-under-trump/" target="_blank">Trump’s migration policies</a>. Last month, media reports claimed that the US president was considering resuming construction of the border wall to “plug gaps” in the current network of barriers to contain migration flows.

‘It Just Isn’t Fair’: Caitlyn Jenner Opposes ‘Biological Boys Competing in Girls’ Sports’

Former Olympic champion and California gubernatorial candidate Caitlyn Jenner, who is herself transgender, believes “we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools.” 
Confronted by a TMZ reporter during her Saturday morning “coffee run,” Jenner said that allowing trans girls who were born as boys to compete in all-female sports is “unfair.”

Jenner dodged a question about whether banning trans girls from female sports teams could “de-legitimize their identity,” but later doubled down on her statements on Twitter.

The issue of trans youths in sports has been a hotly debated topic in the US recently. More than 20 states have introduced conservative-led legislation to ban or limit athletes from competing on teams in line with their gender identity. While already signed into law in Mississippi, South Dakota and Alabama, similar legislation faced a pushback and vetoes in other states like North and South Dakota, Kansas and Pennsylvania.
Once one of the US’ most famous athletes who won a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics, Jenner branched into a lucrative sponsorship and TV career afterwards. However, she is best known nowadays for coming out as transgender in 2015, and for a reality TV show – ‘I am Cait’ – documenting her sex-change surgery.
Last week, Jenner announced her decision to run for governor of California, as a Republican – describing herself as “the only outsider” capable of breaking the Democratic Party’s decades-long “one party rule” over the Golden State.

The Texas special election, explained

A special election for the House seat in Texas’ Sixth Congressional District will head to a runoff, likely featuring two Republicans in a race that has implications for the 2022 midterms and the post-Trump Republican Party.
The special election was called after the <a href="https://www.vox.com/2021/2/8/22272418/ron-wright-sitting-house-member-covid-19-death">death</a> of former Rep. Ron Wright (R-TX) due to Covid-19. Voters in the district, which is centered in suburban Tarrant County, outside of Fort Worth, went to the polls Saturday to choose from a slate of 23 candidates in an all-party election.
Susan Wright, the widow of the late congressman and a longtime Republican activist in the district, will advance to the runoff after winning 19.21 percent of the vote, according to <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2021/05/01/texas-6th-congressional-election-results/">The Texas Tribune</a>. Though all of the votes are in, the second-place victor, who will face Wright in the runoff, has not yet been called as of Sunday morning — Republican state Rep. Jake Ellzey and Democrat Jana Lynne Sanchez are running tight at 13.85 percent and 13.39 percent, respectively.

Altogether, Republican candidates received about 62 percent of the vote, while Democrats earned about 37 percent. There were 78,374 votes cast — a far cry from Election Day in 2020, when 339,992 voters cast ballots in the House race, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/11/03/us/elections/results-house.html?action=click&pgtype=Article&state=default&module=styln-elections-2020&region=TOP_BANNER&context=election_recirc">per The New York Times</a>.
The low turnout may explain the disappointing showing for Democrats in an election that was likely their only pickup opportunity on the calendar this year to expand their narrow House majority of 222 to 213.
There were seven special elections scheduled this year — with a rating of R+6 from the <a href="https://cookpolitical.com/analysis/national/pvi/introducing-2021-cook-political-report-partisan-voter-index">Cook Partisan Voting Index</a>, the Texas election was the only one expected to be competitive.
Texas’ Sixth District is one of the areas in which recent voting patterns and demographic changes have excited the Democratic Party about the Lone Star state. After years of being a virtual lock for the GOP, the district went from being won by John McCain in the 2008 presidential election by 15 points to going for Trump in 2020 by just a three-point margin.
Democrats’ rosy prognostications for Texas did not pan out in 2020, suggesting they still have a ways to go with converting growth in <a href="https://www.vox.com/21551025/latino-national-vote-biden-trump-2020-florida-texas">Latino</a> and Black populations into support and votes.
With such a narrow majority, a pickup would have been critical for Democrats as they head into 2022 with major disadvantages, including being the party of the President — historically, an omen of bad fortune — and being locked out of the redistricting process in <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/31/us/politics/gerrymander-census-democrats-republicans.html">key states</a>, including Texas, where Republicans will get the opportunity to draw congressional maps advantageous to their interests.

But if the current vote totals hold, then there will be two Republican candidates in the runoff.
The special election was an important test for the GOP as well, as the first chance for Republicans to compete with one another in a post-Trump world.
Wright, who won the most votes and will compete in the runoff, received a last-minute <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2021/05/01/texas-6th-congressional-election-results/">endorsement</a> from Trump just five days before the election.
“Susan Wright will be a terrific Congresswoman (TX-06) for the Great State of Texas,” Trump said in a statement, per <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2021/04/26/texas-congress-special-election-donald-trump-endorsement/">The Texas Tribune</a>. “She is the wife of the late Congressman Ron Wright, who has always been supportive of our America First Policies.”
But Wright was far from the most devoted Trump acolyte in the race. The slate of 11 Republicans included Brian Harrison, who worked in the Trump administration as the chief of staff to former Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar, Sery Kim, who worked in the Trump administration’s Office of Women’s Business Ownership and has been loquacious in her praise for the former President, Travis Rodermund, who focused his campaign on gun rights and building the border wall, and Dan Rodimer, a professional wrestler whom Trump endorsed in a previous race.
So, although Wright was the candidate Trump endorsed and is no slouch when it comes to being anti-abortion, anti-immigrant and anti-federal election or voting rights laws, she was certainly not the most Trumpian of the bunch. The same goes for Ellzey, who is currently in second and will likely face Wright in the runoff. While Ellzey talks about similar GOP themes, he has been <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2021/04/20/jake-ellzey-special-election/">criticized</a> by Wright as being soft on immigration, blasted by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for not being conservative enough and opposed by the anti-tax Club for Growth, which has spent six figures on attack ads against him, according to <a href="https://www.texastribune.org/2021/04/20/jake-ellzey-special-election/">The Texas Tribune</a>.
The runoff election has not yet been scheduled.
