The huge container ship which has been blocking the Suez Canal for almost a week started to move today, according to maritime traffic tracking sites.
The MV Ever Given has been wedged diagonally across the canal since Tuesday. It affected world supply chains and costed the global economy billions.
The stern of the boat has now moved away from the canal's western bank, according to the Vesselfinder and myshiptracking sites, news agency AFP reported.
Twitter has been flooded with memes and reactions ever since the ship got stuck. Today was no different. Soon after the ship started to move, Suez Canal sprinted to the top trends on the social media website.

369 ships have been currently stalled as they wait for the canal to reopen, authorities said.
Each day of the blockade could be costing global trade some $6-10 billion, according to a study published Friday by German insurer Allianz.

Facebook, Google's New Plan To Connect Southeast Asia And America

Facebook said on Monday it planned two new undersea cables to connect Singapore, Indonesia and North America in a project with Google and regional telecommunication companies to boost internet connection capacity between the regions.
"Named Echo and Bifrost, those will be the first two cables to go through a new diverse route crossing the Java Sea and they will increase overall subsea capacity in the trans-pacific by about 70%," Facebook Vice President of Network Investments, Kevin Salvadori, told Reuters.
He declined to specify the size of the investment, but said it was "a very material investment for us in Southeast Asia."
The cables, according to the executive, will be the first to directly connect North America to some of the main parts of Indonesia, and will increase connectivity for the central and eastern provinces of the world's fourth most populous country.
Salvadori said "Echo" is being built in partnership with Alphabet's Google and Indonesian telecommunications' company XL Axiata and should be completed by 2023.
Bifrost, which is being done in partnership with Telin, a subsidiary of Indonesia's Telkomsel, and Singaporean conglomerate Keppel is due to be completed by 2024.
The two cables, which will need regulatory approval, follow previous investments by Facebook to build up connectivity in Indonesia, one of its top five markets globally.
While 73% of Indonesia's population of 270 million are online, the majority access the web through mobile data, with less than 10 percent using a broadband connection, according to a 2020 survey by the Indonesian Internet Providers Association.
Swathes of the country, remain without any internet access.
Facebook said last year it would deploy 3,000 km (1,8641 miles) of fibre in Indonesia across twenty cities in addition to a previous deal to develop public Wi-Fi hot spots.
Aside from the Southeast Asian cables, Facebook was continuing with its broader subsea plans in Asia and globally, including with the Pacific Light Cable Network (PLCN), Salvadori said.
"We are working with partners and regulators to meet all of the concerns that people have, and we look forward to that cable being a valuable, productive transpacific cable going forward in the near future," he said.
The 12,800 km PLCN, which is being funded by Facebook and Alphabet, had met U.S government resistance over plans for a Hong Kong conduit. It was originally intended to link the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Philippines.
Facebook said earlier this month it would drop efforts to connect the cable between California and Hong Kong due to "ongoing concerns from the U.S. government about direct communication links between the United States and Hong Kong".

Almost a week after it ran aground in Suez Canal, blocking hundreds of ships, the giant cargo ship MV Ever Given started to move, videos that emerged on social media show. The owner of the ship, however, said that the vessel has only "turned" but is not yet afloat.
The spokesman for the vessel's owner said the Ever Given was "stuck at an angle of 30 degrees towards the canal but that has eased," adding that the ship "has turned" but it "is not afloat."
About 27,000 cubic meters of sand were dug out, to a depth of 18 meters, to free the ship, according to reports.
For six days, the giant vessel had been wedged diagonally across the Suez Canal - one of the world's most vital waterways - since March 23 leading to a long queue of more than 450 ships at the southern entrance to the trade route.

The backlog severely strained global supply chains already stretched by the pandemic as the canal is a conduit for about 12% of global trade. Some ships opted for the long and expensive trip around the southern tip of Africa instead of Suez.
Egypt - which controls the canal - had been reportedly losing around 14 million dollar per day in revenue because of the accidental blockade.

As they hid, she could hear gunshots and what she believes was the shooter moving around, mumbling at times — and laughing.

Video streaming site Bilibili sank on its first day trading on Hong Kong's stock exchange on Monday as investors fret over a global sell-off in Chinese tech shares.
Bilibili's opening price fell just over 6 percent in early trade after the firm raised around $2.6 billion in a secondary listing on Hong Kong's bourse.
Over the past 18 months Hong Kong has seen a flurry of Chinese tech firms hold initial public offerings in the city, part of a drive to list closer to home as relations between Beijing and Washington sour.
Last year Hong Kong raked in an impressive $49 billion in IPOs with hugely popular second listings by the likes of JD.com and NetEase.
The Chinese tech homecomings have continued into 2021 but with less investor enthusiasm.
A Hong Kong debut by Chinese search engine Baidu last week raised $3.1 billion through its IPO but its shares finished flat on the opening day and have since sunk some 15 percent.
US-China tensions remain at the forefront of investor jitters.
Last week American regulators announced plans to force Chinese firms to adhere more strictly to its auditing rules, sparking concerns over potential delistings in the US and a global sell-off in Chinese tech shares.
Bilibili is already listed in New York. 
It is a fast growing video streaming site with around 200 million mostly young Chinese users.
Often dubbed "China's YouTube", it allows users to upload and share videos with voiceovers and music added and hosts a significant amount of user generated content.
Founded in 2009 by a then 20-year-old college student Xu Yi, it began primarily as a place for fans of gaming and anime to gather and share content but has since spread among Gen Z Chinese users.
Bilibili chief executive Chen Rui played down short term market price drops, billing his company as a website primed to tap into China's nearly one billion internet users.
"We wouldn't care too much about short-term performance in the stock market," the 43-year-old billionaire told Bloomberg Television in what the network said was his first interview with international media.
"Nobody will remember whether your stock went up or down on the debut in 10 years' time."
Chen has been seen as the real driver of Bilibili's success in recent years, persuading Chinese tech rivals Tencent and Alibaba to come on board as early investors as well as Sony.
Videos "will be a major trend for the internet industry over the next three to five years," Chen told Bloomberg. 
"The market will be in ultra-high-speed growth for the next several years. Popular video platforms, like us, will all have great opportunities."
