Football Player Locks Himself In Hot Car To Demonstrate How Dangerous It Is For Dogs

The demonstration was a part of a public service announcement to raise awareness about how dangerous a hot car can be for any living creature.
“If you’re going to make a dog a part of your family, then make him a part of your family. Don’t treat him like you wouldn’t treat someone you cared about or someone you loved,” Mathieu said in the video.
“I seriously couldn’t imagine leaving my dog in a car like this,” he added.
During the video, the temperature in the car reached over 120 degrees in just eight minutes. After 8 minutes, Mathieu had to give up and get out of the car because he could not take the heat anymore.
Last week we reported that a <a href="http://www.trueactivist.com/new-law-protects-people-who-break-into-hot-cars-to-save-pets/" target="_blank">new state law in Tennesse</a> protects citizens from being sued if they are freeing a pet from a hot car.

For a magician to fool his audience his deceit must go unseen, and to this end he crafts an illusion to avert attention from reality. While the audience is entranced, the deceptive act is committed, and for the fool, reality then becomes inexplicably built upon on a lie. That is, until the fool wakes up and recognizes the truth in the fact that he has been duped.
Maintaining the suspension of disbelief in the illusion, however, is often more comforting than acknowledging the magician’s secrets.
We live in a world of illusion. So many of the concerns that occupy the mind and the tasks that fill the calendar arise from planted impulses to become someone or something that we are not. This is no accident. As we are indoctrinated into this authoritarian-corporate-consumer culture that now dominates the human race, we are trained that certain aspects of our society are untouchable truths, and that particular ways of being and behaving are preferred.
<a title="Psychopath vs. Empath: the War Between Truth and Deception" href="http://www.wakingtimes.com/2015/01/22/psychopath-vs-empath-war-truth-deception/" target="_blank">Psychopaths</a> disempower people in this way. They blind us with never ceasing barrages of suggestions and absolutes that are aimed at shattering self-confidence and confidence in the future.

Advertising is just the tip of the iceberg. When we look further we see that the overall organization of life is centered around the pursuit of illusions and automatic obedience to institutions and ideas which are not at all what they seem. We are in a very real sense enslaved. Many call this somewhat intangible feeling of oppression ‘the matrix,’ a system of total control that invades the mind, programming individuals to pattern themselves in accordance with a mainstream <a title="Nonconformity and the Normalcy Bias" href="http://www.wakingtimes.com/2014/05/28/nonconformity-normalcy-bias/" target="_blank">conformist</a> version of reality, no matter how wicked it gets.
The grandest of the illusions which keep us enslaved to the matrix, the ones that have so many of us still entranced, are outlined below for your consideration.
<h3>1. THE ILLUSION OF LAW, ORDER AND AUTHORITY</h3>
For so many of us, following the law is considered a moral obligation, and many of us gladly do so even though corruption, scandal, and wickedness repeatedly demonstrate that the law is plenty flexible for those who have the muscle to bend it. Police brutality and police criminality is rampant in the US, the courts favor the wealthy, and we can longer even lead our lives privately thanks to the intrusion of state surveillance. And all the while the illegal and immoral Orwellian permanent war rages on in the background of life, murdering and destroying whole nations and cultures.
The social order is not what it seems, for it is entirely predicated on conformity, obedience and acquiescence which are enforced by fear of violence. History teaches us again and again that the law is just as often as not used as an instrument of oppression, social control and plunder, and any so-called authority in this regard is false, hypocritical, and unjust.
When the law itself does not follow the law, there is no law, there is no order, and there is no justice. The pomp and trappings of authority are merely a concealment of the truth that the current world order is predicated on control, not consent.
<h3>2. THE ILLUSION OF PROSPERITY AND HAPPINESS</h3>
Adorning oneself in expensive clothes and trinkets, and amassing collections of material possessions that would be the envy of any 19th century monarch has become a substitute for genuine prosperity. Maintaining the illusion of prosperity, though, is critical to our economy as it is, because its foundation is built on consumption, <a title="The Secrets of the Banking System" href="http://www.wakingtimes.com/2015/01/13/debt-fraud-secrets-banking-system/" target="_blank">fraud, credit and debt</a>. The banking system itself has been engineered from the top down to create unlimited wealth for some while taxing the eternity out of the rest of us.
True prosperity is a vibrant environment and an abundance of health, happiness, love, and relationships. As more people come to perceive material goods as the form of self-identification in this culture, we slip farther and farther away from the experience of true prosperity.
<h3>3. THE ILLUSION OF CHOICE AND FREEDOM</h3>
Read between the lines and look at the fine print, we are not free, not by any intelligent standard. Freedom is about having choice, yet in today’s world, choice has come to mean a selection between available options, always from within the confines of a corrupt legal and taxation system and within the boundaries of culturally accepted and enforced norms.
Just look no further than the phony institution of modern democracy to find a shining example of false choices appearing real. Two entrenched, corrupt, archaic political parties are paraded as the pride and hope of the nation, yet third party and independent voices are intentionally blocked, ridiculed and plowed under.
The illusion of choice and freedom is a powerful oppressor because it fools us into accepting chains and short leashes as though they were the hallmarks of liberty.
Multiple choice is different than freedom, it is easy servitude.
<h3>4. THE ILLUSION OF TRUTH</h3>
Truth has become a touchy subject in our culture, and we’ve been programmed to believe that ‘the‘ truth comes from the demigods of media, celebrity, and government. If the TV declares something to be true, then we are heretics to believe otherwise.
In order to maintain order, the powers that be depend our acquiescence to their version of the truth. While independent thinkers and journalists continually blow holes in the official versions of reality, the illusion of truth is so very powerful that it takes a serious personal upheaval to shun the cognitive dissonance needed to function in a society that openly chases false realities.
<h3>5. THE ILLUSION OF TIME</h3>
They say that time is money, but this is a lie. Time is your life. Your life is an ever-evolving manifestation of the now. Looking beyond the five sense world, where we have been trained to move in accordance with the clock and the calendar, we find that the spirit is eternal, and that the each individual soul is part of this eternity.
The big deception here is the reinforcement of the idea that the present moment is of little to no value, that the past is something we cannot undo or ever forget, and that the future is intrinsically more important than both the past and the present. This carries our attention away from what it actually happening right now and directs it toward the future. Once completely focused on what is to come rather than what is, we are easy prey to advertisers and fear-pimps who muddy our vision of the future with every possible worry and concern imaginable.
We are happiest when life doesn’t box us in, when spontaneity and randomness gives us the chance to find out more about ourselves. Forfeiting the present moment in order to fantasize about the future is a trap. The immense, timeless moments of spiritual joy that are found in quiet meditation are proof that time is a construct of the mind of humankind, and not necessarily mandatory for the human experience.
If time is money, then life can be measured in dollars. When dollars are worth less, so is life. This is total deception, because life is, in truth, absolutely priceless.
<h3>6. THE ILLUSION OF SEPARATENESS</h3>
On a strategic level, the tactic of divide and conquer is standard operating procedure for authoritarians and invading armies, but the illusion of separateness runs even deeper than this.
We are programmed to believe that as individuals we are in competition with everyone and everything around us, including our neighbors and even <a title="Ayahuasca and Iboga – Messengers of Truth from Mother Earth" href="http://www.wakingtimes.com/2014/02/21/ayahuasca-iboga-messengers-truth-mother-earth/" target="_blank">mother nature</a>. Us vs. them to the extreme. This flatly denies the truth that life on this planet is infinitely inter-connected. Without clean air, clean water, healthy soil, and a vibrant global sense of community we cannot survive here.
While the illusion of separateness comforts us by gratifying the ego and and offering a sense of control, in reality it only serves to enslave and isolate us.
<h3>CONCLUSION</h3>
The grand illusions mentioned here have been staged before us as a campaign to encourage blind acquiescence to the machinations of the matrix. In an attempt to dis-empower us, they demand our conformity and obedience, but we must not forget that all of this is merely an elaborate sales pitch. They can’t sell what we don’t care to buy.

We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each others’ happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.
Greed has poisoned men’s souls; has barricaded the world with hate; has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical; our cleverness, hard and unkind.
We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery ,we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost. The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in man; cries out for universal brotherhood; for the unity of us all.

New Study Finds Connection Between Fracking And Increased Hospitalizations

A study published earlier this week reveals a significant connection between fracking and increased hospitalizations.

A new study conducted by some of the nation’s top public health researchers determined a relationship between increased hospitalizations and hydraulic fracturing.
Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a method of extracting oil and natural gas. The process has surged rapidly in the United States over the past decade. While the technology has been credited with decreasing the nation’s dependence on foreign and imported fuel, the method is a known contributor to air and water pollution.
As <a href="http://www.treehugger.com/fossil-fuels/fracking-linked-more-hospitalizations-pennsylvanias-marcellus-shale-region.html">Treehugger</a> shared, researchers from Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health as well as Penn’s Perelman School of Medicine and Center for Environmental Health set intention to figure out if increased fracking along Pennsylvania’s Marcellus shale formation has had any effect on the health of nearby communities. The researchers analyzed the number of hospitalizations and the number of fracking wells for different zip codes in Bradford, Susquehanna, and Wayne County.
All data analyzed for the study was from 2007 to 2011. During that period of time, a substantial increase in the number of fracking wells in Bradford and Susquehanna occurred. Bradford has since banned fracking because the area is so close to the Delaware River watershed.
The researchers shared their findings in the <a href="http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0131093">open access journal PLOS ONE</a>. What they found is that hospitalizations for heart problems, neurological illnesses, and other health conditions were higher in areas with a greater density of fracking wells.

While some might believe the connection is a coincidence, the authors state that finding such a significant association over this short of a time period is remarkable.

“At this point, we suspect that residents are exposed to many toxicants, noise, and social stressors due to hydraulic fracturing near their homes and this may add to the increased number of hospitalizations,” said senior author Reynold Panettieri, Jr., MD in a statement. “This study represents one of the most comprehensive to date to link health effects with hydraulic fracturing.”

Even though the study cannot yet determine what factor of fracking is to blame for causing more health problems (correlation doesn’t prove causation, after all), the connection is an intriguing find.
The researchers go on to suggest that more study of the health risks of fracking is merited and that the economic benefits of fracking should be weighed against healthcare costs.

Biotech companies know the power of consumer awareness, therefore, have been doing everything within their power to keep individuals and their families ignorant of what’s in their food. While suppression techniques and buy-outs have worked in the past, advocates for GMO labeling aren’t giving up the fight anytime soon.
In fact, 90%+ of the population (in the United States) has <a href="http://www.trueactivist.com/shocking-68-of-doctors-believe-gmos-should-be-labeled/">expressed desire</a> to see genetically modified foods labeled. And amazingly, <a href="http://www.trueactivist.com/shocking-68-of-doctors-believe-gmos-should-be-labeled/">68% of doctors want to see a label</a> slapped onto GMO foods as well.
But because Monsanto knows <a href="http://www.non-gmoreport.com/articles/march-2015/is-non-gmo-hurting-organic.php">56% of consumers</a> would likely opt out of buying genetically modified foods if labeled, they have quietly introduced a bill to ban all mandatory GMO labeling in the US. 
The worst part is, the bill, introduced by Monsanto’s star representative Mike Pompeo, was just approved by the House Agriculture Committee. That means it is one step closer to becoming a full-fledged law. The bill is formally known as H.R. 1599, or the ‘Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015.’
A more precise name, however, might be the ‘Monsanto Protection on Steroids.’ As <a href="http://naturalsociety.com/bill-ban-gmo-labeling-for-good-3/">Natural Society shares</a>, the bill was drafted by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), and was burdened upon the public by the usual food and drug companies who desire to keep consumers ignorant of what’s in their food.
Because the bill has not been passed, however, there is good news. Activists still have the power to raise awareness of this issue, vote with their dollar, and urge their representative to get involved in the GMO debate by advocating for everyone’s ‘right to know’.

Nike Partnered With A Disabled Teen To Create An Easy-Entry Shoe, And It’s Incredible!

After a 16-year-old with cerebral palsy asked Nike to develop an easy-entry shoe, the company partnered with him to create a pair anyone can slip on.

“If you have a body, you are an athlete,” said the co-founder of Nike, Bill Bowerman. And for those who have at any time in their life been inspired to be the best versions of themselves, such a statement is not only empowering, its truth. 
For 16-year-old Matthew Walzer, Bowerman’s declaration was inspiration enough to believe that even with cerebral palsy he could – and will continue to be – a great athlete.
In an inspired move, the teenager <a href="http://www.upworthy.com/unable-to-tie-shoes-a-16-year-old-with-cerebral-palsy-wrote-to-nike-they-came-through-big-time?c=ufb1">wrote a letter to the athletic apparel company</a> to develop a shoe for people like him with disabilities. In the video above, Walzer shares the frustration and difficulty that can come from not being able to tie his shoes. Having an easy-entry shoe would liberate him from needing to depend upon his parents in college, an exciting – and necessary – move for the teen.

The letter Matthew wrote to Nike follows:

“Out of all the challenges I have overcome in my life, there is one that I am still trying to master, tying my shoes. Cerebral palsy stiffens the muscles in the body. As a result I have flexibility in only one of my hands which makes it impossible for me to tie my shoes. My dream is to go to the college of my choice without having to worry about someone coming to tie my shoes everyday.
I’ve worn Nike basketball shoes all my life. I can only wear this type of shoe because I need ankle support to walk. I am currently wearing the Lunar hyper gamer and LeBron Zoom Soldier 6’s. At 16 years old, I am able to completely dress myself, but my parents still have to tie my shoes. As a teenager who is striving to become totally self-sufficient, I find this extremely frustrating, and at times, embarrassing.
I know that Nike makes slip-ons, sandals and other types of shoes. However, I and many other physically challenged people are unable to wear them due to a lack of support. When I think of Nike, I think of one of America’s most innovative and forward thinking companies. Nike is always pushing the limits, making their shoes lighter, faster and stronger by using new materials, new designs and new technologies. This benefits people all around the world. Bill Bowerman said it best, ‘If you have a body you are an athlete.’ I believe everyone, no matter what their physical, economic, or social circumstances may be, deserves to call themselves an athlete, and deserves to have a sense of freedom and independence.”

To Matthew’s delighted surprise, a 23-year-old <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaNM_T1d1as">Nike product manager responded</a>, saying that he, too, has cerebral palsy and a passion for sports. GNN reported in 2012 that Nike’s designers were inspired by the young man’s letter, and therefore worked with Matthew for the next few years on a lace-free prototype that he – and other disabled individuals – could easily slide on and off.

The <a href="http://news.nike.com/news/the-flyease-journey">Zoom Soldier 8 FLYEASE</a> shoes are definitely something to get excited about. The unique footwear features a wrap-around enclosure that opens the back of the shoe for those with limited hand function.

Since Nike has worked with well-known athletes such as Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, and Kobe Bryant, the shoe was designed to incorporate similar features. In fact, the new design includes the same ankle support as Lebron James’s line – Matthew’s favorite NBA basketball player.

Later this month, Nike will outfit U.S. basketball teams participating in the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games with the new Zoom Soldier 8 FLYEASE shoes.
And as the shoes hit the market mid-July, Matthew will finally have a pair to kick back in – just in time for college.
