Homeless Man Steps Up To Piano And Stuns Crowd With Beautiful Performance

<p>Many times when we pass homeless people on the street, we forget to stop and think about the amazing minds and talents that these people possess, and how despite their unfortunate circumstances, they are still amazing human beings capable of amazing things.</p>
<p>A recent viral video of a homeless man playing a piano shows us just that, and has made millions across the world stop and think about the talented and brilliant souls who they may be passing on the street every day.<br />

It happened in Sarasota, Florida where a local homeless man, Donald Gould, stumbled upon a public piano that was recently installed on the city’s streets. <a href="http://ift.tt/1FTd0Zx" target="_blank">According to News.AU</a> the piano was donated as part of the Sarasota Keys Piano Project, which hopes to encourage creative expression in public spaces.</p>
<p>Speaking to local ABC media after his impromptu performance, 51-year-old Gould said that he was really just trying to <em>“make a couple dollars and get tips, I didn’t expect it to jump out to this.”</em></p>

Australia’s Oldest Man Knits Sweaters For Penguins Affected By Oil Spills

<p>109-year-old Alfie dedicates his time to knitting tiny sweaters for penguins affected by man-made disasters.</p>
<p>109-year-old Alfred “Alfie” Date has witnessed some momentous events in history, including the sinking of the Titanic and the declaration of World War One. But when the caring elder is not visiting with one of his seven children, 20 grandchildren, or “about the same amount” of great-grandchildren, he dedicates his time to knitting tiny sweaters for penguins affected by man-made disasters.  <a href="http://ift.tt/1H1WYhD" target="_blank"><img alt="anon wear t-shirt" class=" size-full wp-image-24525 aligncenter" height="230" src="http://ift.tt/1IDEubY" width="300" /></a></p>
<p>Alfie told Australia’s <i>9 Stories</i> about <a href="http://ift.tt/1uA8PD9">he got started knitting “easy single-rib and double-rib” sweaters</a> and chalks it up to not being able to say “no”. After learning that he had the skill to knit (a gift acquired in 1930), two nurses who knew of the “Knits for Nature” program approached him to gauge his interest. Apparently it was all history from there.</p>

<p>Now he works as part of a group transforming wool provided by the nurses into sweaters for penguins affected by oil spills.</p>

This Saudi Prince Is Donating ALL of HIS Wealth – $32 Billion – To Philanthropy

<p>Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, a nephew of late King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, is <a href="http://ift.tt/1H1WYhz" target="_blank">donating all of his personal wealth to philanthropy</a> over the coming years to help build a “better world of tolerance, acceptance, equality and opportunity for all.”</p>
<p>Alwaleed, who said that “<a href="http://ift.tt/1R5CY80" target="_blank">it is a commitment without boundaries, a commitment to all humankind</a>,” pledged his entire $32 billion to charitable projects to help build bridges to foster cultural understanding, develop communities, empower women, enable youth, provide vital disaster relief, and create a more tolerant and accepting world.</p>

EU Scraps Mobile Roaming Charges, Allows Net Neutrality

<p>The European Union has reached an agreement to end mobile roaming charges for people travelling within its 28 member countries – roaming charges will cease to exist in the EU as of 15 June 2017.  The new agreement also announced strong net neutrality rules to “protecting the right of every European to access Internet content, without discrimination”.</p>
<p>Within the EU, prices for roaming calls, SMS and data have fallen by 80% while data roaming is up to 91% cheaper since 2007. From 30 April 2016, <a href="http://ift.tt/1eX0Cm8" target="_blank">roaming will become even cheaper</a> – data roaming fees will be capped at €0.05 per MB, calls will be capped at €0.05 per minute, and SMS will be capped at €0.02 per text (excluding VAT). The <a href="http://ift.tt/1oga1TF" target="_blank">current EU roaming rates</a> are €0.19 per minute of call made, €0.06 per SMS sent, and €0.20 per MB of data (excluding VAT).</p>

<p>For those you who are unfamiliar with this type of art, origami is the art of folding a flat piece of paper into a sculpture such as a bird, a butterfly or a flower, without “guide” marks on the paper and without any kind of adhesive to hold it together.</p>
<p>A battery is a different story. Although the term “battery” was fist coined by Benjamin Franklin, in reference to a series of charged glass plates, the first “wet cell” battery (as we know it) was invented by Alessandro Volta, in 1800. This “Voltic Pile” was the first invention capable of producing a steady and sustained current through a chemical reaction.</p>
<p>Fast forward 215 years into the future and say hello to Seokheun “Sean” Choi. Mr. Choi, an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Binghamton University, has worked in collaboration with Hankeun Lee, to successfully create a folding paper battery that creates electricity with… Anyone? Anyone?</p>
<p>Dirty water… Bacteria laden dirty water to be more specific. No, you cannot charge your iPhone with it. Well, not yet. As of right now, this is being looked at as a power source for biosensors and research in remote areas of the world. At least, that’s the next goal. To help achieve this the National Science Foundation has provided the team with a new three-year grant of nearly $300,000. I have a feeling we are looking at a massive jump in the technology of power storage, if Mr. Choi can get it perfected.</p>
<p>How does it work? What does it cost? Who’s using it? As usual, there are a crazy amount of chemical and physics details we could hash out for hours; so, in light of this, we will keep it simple.</p>
<p><a href="http://ift.tt/1GXCVA5"><img alt="how-a-battery-works" class=" size-medium wp-image-24304 alignleft" height="300" src="http://ift.tt/1KENbCW" width="300" /></a>A basic battery has very few parts. It contains a cathode, an anode, and the electrolyte. The electrolyte holds a chemical reaction within the battery casing, moving electrons from one place to another to produce an electric current. Half of the cell contains electrolyte and an anode (the negative end). The other half contains electrolyte and a cathode (the positive end). Electrons gather at the negative end of a battery. When a wire is connected from the positive end to the negative end (or installed in a device) the electrons move through the cell and out of the battery from the anode. Finally, they then move through the wire or device and into the cathode. It’s simple enough, right?</p>

<p>The paper battery uses an inexpensive air-breathing cathode created with nickel, this is sprayed onto one side of ordinary office paper. The anode is screen printed with carbon paints, which creates spaces for the dirty water to be absorbed into. The trick here is the simple fact that every living thing on our planet produces electricity and its own magnetic field. Both the largest animal in the world and even the smallest plant life creates a “spark”. Until now, there just hasn’t been a way to actually harvest and use this energy.</p>
<p>The most incredible part of the whole endeavor? The total cost of this potentially game-changing device is five cents US. Crazy? I don’t think so. How crazy would it be to unfold a piece of paper, soak it in a puddle of otherwise “undesirable” water, only to refold it and plug your iPhone into it for a quick charge?</p>

This most recent protest is awe-inspiring in size. <a href="http://ift.tt/1fbndeL" target="_blank">CNN</a>, <a href="http://ift.tt/1FWxq3R" target="_blank">Reuters</a>, <a href="http://ift.tt/1C4YSkV" target="_blank">BBC</a>, are keen to avoid filming the size of a major NO protest; instead, their reports are either claiming that Greece is a divided nation, is explaining why NO voters are idiots, or is centered around footage of fearful Greek INDIVIDUALS (ignoring NO protesters altogether, focusing on small clumps of NO protesters, and only providing zoomed-out shots for smaller NO protests).</p>

<p><a href="http://ift.tt/1KyMFb9" target="_blank">NewsWeek</a> claims tens of thousands protest both sides, but as with all the other mainstream sources, has refused to film the size of the YES protests as RT had for the NO. Suffice to say, journalistic “omissions” like these, demonstrated across almost all mainstream networks, is most disheartening, but not unexpected. Don’t trust my opinion, perhaps I am looking at the wrong sources. Google the YES and NO protests in Greece for yourself and come to your own conclusions.</p>
